She then stands and comments, "Okay seems we have fixed what is wrong with the three sites affected by the, well, probably cultists. I say we should probably go find Davorage again and make sure there's nothing else we might need to handle here before we go and hunt down the cultists."

"Does anyone know if there's a swamp nearby? There was mention of one in one of the clues as well as a description of a smell of rotting vegetation that might also be caused by a swamp or marsh. And it seems like the cultists were always coming from the same area. A dance theater, I think?" he says, reviewing the clues in his mind.

Kit stretches languidly and twitches her nose, then picks up a rather large feather and considers it for a moment. "A smelly swamp, now, that's something I'd father avoid. But I still think we head out and hunt these fellows down tonight, before they come back and corrupt another monument in the night."

She then tucks the feather away and smiles at Kahwen.

Kitoro feels the power of the monument's boon coursing through her body. Increases the save DC of all your fire spells by 1 for 24 hours. Unfortunately, Elado was not granted this benefit.

The team quickly return to the Mistress of Angels with the intent to find Davorge. The nearly full moon and streetlamps provide ample illumination. As they approach Ordellia's townhouse, a vision appears in the window, anxiously waiving and beckoning the adventurers who recognize the apparition as Ordellia herself. Currently slide 7

Nothing and no one impedes their approach. The Pathfinders find themselves outside the historic townhouse, not knowing what awaits inside other than an anxious spirit who needs their help.

After all of his adventures and especially the ones involving undead, you would think that Kahwen would be a bit more cautious by now.

But no, his exuberance is undampened and Ordellia seems like a friendly sort of spirit, so he hurries up to the door and tries the latch.

Kit is far more cautious but her recent successes has her feeling overly confident. Like Kahwen, he responds to the beckoning and follows Kahwen without taking any precautions.

Faliana gives a small sigh of annoyance. Gods, Kahwen reminds me of Monty way too much. The monkey would also rush into stuff too quickly! Well, if I've learned anything from those times it's 'don't leave them alone.'

She rushes up behind Kahwen and places a lightly restraining hand on his shoulder. "Might be better to wait for everyone before you get attacked by something terrible. I've had a companion or two rush into traps, demon molds or charming snake demons before, be careful."

Kahwen and Kit go racing up the stairs with the others close behind. As they fling the doors open they see this centuries-old room is clean and well kept despite its antiquity and lack of inhabitants, a luxury afforded by the love and care of the town’s citizens. An old fireplace in the room lies cold and bare, and dozens of knickknacks and baubles lay on display. A stately grand piano decorates the room’s eastern wall.

More importantly, Davorge is slumped unconscious near the fireplace, as is another closer to the stairs. There is evidence of a fight and it looks like the two now unconscious took out a few of the combatants before they succumbed. Of those that remain, there are four pale humanoids with fangs and burning red eyes gathered near Davorge. Another, more menacing figure seems more focused on the other unconscious being. Two elongated and deathly pallid arms protrude from this creature’s smoky body as it slithers silently through the air.

You recall that these creatures earn their name by causing wisdom damage via their claws until a victim is rendered helpless at which point the creature devours the victim’s soul.

Caster Link (Ex) When a soul eater is summoned, it creates a mental link between itself and its conjurer. If the soul eater’s assigned target (see the find target ability) dies before the soul eater can drain its soul, or if the soul eater is defeated by its target (but not slain), it returns to its conjurer at full speed and attacks her. While the soul eater and the conjurer are on the same plane (regardless of plane-travelling interruptions), it can use its find target ability to locate its conjurer.

You identify the larger group of creatures (Red 1, Green 2, Blue 3, Yellow 4) as undead augmented humanoids. These seem to be some kind of vampire spawn. You recall that creatures like these often have an energy drain ability. They can inflict negative levels.

A vampire spawn can suck blood from a grappled opponent increasing its vitality as it does. Regains HP or gains temporary HP while inflicting Constitution damage.

Vampire Weaknesses Vampires cannot tolerate the strong odour of garlic and will not enter an area laced with it. Similarly, they recoil from mirrors or strongly presented holy symbols. These things don’t harm the vampire—they merely keep it at bay. A recoiling vampire must stay at least 5 feet away from the mirror or holy symbol and cannot touch or make melee attacks against that creature. Holding a vampire at bay takes a standard action. After 1 round, a vampire can overcome its revulsion of the object and function normally each round it makes a DC 25 Will save. Vampires cannot enter a private home or dwelling unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so. Reducing a vampire’s hit points to 0 or lower incapacitates it but doesn’t always destroy it (see fast healing). However, certain attacks can slay vampires. Exposing any vampire to direct sunlight staggers it on the first round of exposure and destroys it utterly on the second consecutive round of exposure if it does not escape. Each round of immersion in running water inflicts damage to a vampire equal to one-third of its maximum hit points—a vampire reduced to 0 hit points in this manner is destroyed. Driving a wooden stake through a helpless vampire’s heart instantly slays it (this is a full-round action). However, it returns to life if the stake is removed, unless the head is also severed and anointed with holy water.

Faliana steps into the room, flourishing her spear as she goes, she pauses and lets Sasha take over for a moment to see if the former-cleric has any insights into the beasts in front of her.

Trust your grandmama on this one.”

”And you’re quite right about those vampire spawn, Faliana,” she continues, moving up to the corner of the doorway. ”They’re also resistant to electricity - but I can’t recall anything about them being immune to the cold. So freeze away, Elado!”

Are those HP totals correct? Are the two hex tokens the unconscious ones? The purple one looks interesting and not totally human. She is waiting until Inghinn goes hoping she can find a place where she can so can hide behind someone and get them all within 30'.

Yes, the two hex tokens are unconscious. The purple one is indeed not human. I am going to say that given Matrialda's planar knowledge, she would easily identify this as an azata and likely share that with the group.

Faliana steps into the room, assess the nearest foe and readies to strike, waiting only for support from the bard. She shares what information she recalls to the rest of the team.

Matrialda keeps her distance but makes sure to take a good look before stepping back. She utilizes her broad knowledge base to further inform the party.

Kitoro decides the wiser course of action is to wait for some of the others so her performance will be the most effective without unnecessarily increasing the risk to her own life.

Actually she plans on casting blistering invective which has s 30' range, so there will be no performance this round. she just needs to know whether she can get them all within range and not have a huge target painted on her chest.

Kahwen goes through a complex kata, stepping, twisting and kicking his feet while carefully moving his hands and arms in complex patterns.

When done, his normal stance has completely altered and he stands taller, balanced more firmly one one leg while the other looks half raised. His arms are raised as well, ready to lash out and draw back out of harms way rapidly.

Looks like I'm bolded. If so, I'm entering Crane Stance as a full round action.

Thank-you for the benevolent ruling on the communication! However given her adjusted attack is an 11 for 7 points of piercing, I think she missed!

How long do those Fire Resists last? I forgot to look them up. Mage Armour probably needs to be renewed by now too. Probably would have happened as you approached the house.

The slight confusion and delay as the team take stock of the situation allow the vampire spawn to react to their arrival.

As the first one (Red 1) moves across the doorway, it receives a massive snowball in the face. It manages to keep moving, however, as it closes with Faliana she jabs it with her spear. The resulting wound is less than expected by those who witness it. The creature reaches out, attempting to slam its fist into the half-elf. When it lands a solid blow, Faliana not only feels the impact but also feels it draining her vital energy. 8 damage, 1 negative level

As the only party member to have entered the room, she is the main focus of all the creatures. The next one (Green 2) moves into a flanking position and slams Faliana with its fist doing more damage and draining her further. 10 damage, 1 negative level

The third one (Blue 3) moves toward then up the wall.

The final one (Yellow 4) appears to turn gaseous.

He jumps over his fellow Pathfinder, making an arc over her and landing on his arms and shoulder, rolling into a stand then running around the reddish assailant, drawing his sword as he moves.

He slashes at the undead while it is distracted by Faliana.

Kahwen comes tumbling into the room and slashes into the first creature to attack Faliana. The tengu's attack is particularly effective, leaving a deanimated corpse where once was a threat. He then realises that his friend is also collapsed and slowly dying.

Kit joins the fray with a torrent of vitriolic verbiage. Those in range look slightly blistered and shaken, they also both catch fire.

Faliana moves up and effectively dispatches the vampire spawn in the doorway (Green 2) in two quick strokes. She then realises she will need to move into the room to reach any of the others.

The soul eater swoops past Kahwen lashing out with its claws as it does before returning to much the same place to survey the damage.

Darn - I was hoping Inghinn could reach Blue from her current position (albeit with cover). Oh well.

Also, Flyby Attack is similar to Spring Attack in that the creature can move before and after an attack, but doesn’t have the same denying of AoOs that Spring Attack does. Does Kahwen get an AoO on this tricksy bugger?

”Oh dear,” Matrialda clucks as she looks at Faliana’s fallen form. ”Don’t worry though - I’ve got just the thing.” Quickly she starts rummaging through her knit bag, eventually turning it over and shaking it in frustration - but only lint and dust emerges once more. With a wave of her arm, the elderly woman sends the debris flying further into the room to bother someone else - namely, those young hooligans. ”I was certain I packed the band-aids...”

Casting glitterdust and using Reservoir point to increase the DC to Will 19 - should hit both Black and Yellow if they’re within 5 ft of each other elevation-wise.

Matrialda, I think you needed to step up to the door to be able to target both creatures, or even cast into the room. I have moved your token accordingly.

Matrialda steps up to the door and sends a burst of glitter into the room, covering both remaining opponents. The soul eater seems to be particularly affected, the vampire spawn less so. While rummaging in her bag as part of her preparations, Matrialda finds her wand of cure light wounds.

Faliana seems to try settling into a deep sleep, but instead her eye flicker open as Sasha tries to sit up and watch what's happening with the undead. As he tries to start up his usual babble of nonsense, though, all he can do is give a gargling noise and sputter up some blood. The stress on her body causes Fali's wounds to open further as she bleeds out quicker.

Sasha finds himself in a distressing situation as Faliana lays dying.

The vampire spawn in gaseous form (yellow 4) flies over Inghinn (provoking) and becomes substantial once again behind her. While the one that was climbing over the wall, still on fire, (blue 3) drops down in front of her and takes a swipe. Due to the fighters enhanced ability to dodge, the blow just misses.

Kahwen's first instinct is to rush to the aid of his fellow Pathfinders. Then, he notes that there are 4 of them and only 2 of the enemy...they're not the ones who need aid.

So, he rushes the one that slashed at him and fled, giving it a taste of it's own medicine.

Kahwen's Scout ability allows him to make a sneak attack whenever he charges. If that hits, he's using debilitating injury to disorient (-2 to hit and -4 to hit Kahwen) and causes 4 bleed if the target is subject to such things (but does not stack upon itself.)
