Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Inghinn kneels down as well and looks at the child with sympathy. "When I was your age, my father made me my first leather hauberk. It was uncomfortable at first, but with time, I broke the leather in. After a while, it became as natural to wear it as my own skin." She pauses for a moment, then continues on, tears welling up in her eyes, "This new part of your spirit's journey is like that hauberk. It's uncomfortable now, but give it a little longer and you'll find peace and maybe even a new kind of happiness in it. You just have to work through it for a little while."

Seeing the child watch everything with wide eyes, as if soaking in every bit of knowledge or entertainment she can, Kit dances, pretending to be a child herself, discovering the wonders of the world, including each of the items crafted by the others.
perform dance: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23

Once again, the team work together to calm and soothe this childlike spirit.
Elado fascinates them with his ice sculpting, though when Inghinn speaks of discomfort the child is clearly unhappy and moves through the fighter only to be mesmerized by Kit's dancing.
When the Pathfinders face each other after the incident, Inghinn looks younger than she did just moments before, exhibiting a youthful glow.
They proceed cautiously down the remaining stairs. A musky spell permeates this well-kept tomb. Several ornaments to commemorate the dead lay atop the many sarcophagi herein, while haunting moans echo throughout the halls. Suddenly, a crash of stone breaks the silence and slow shuffling echoes throughout the catacomb.
Please see the discussion thread.
Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Inghinn's eyes snap up as she looks around in alarm at the noise. She draws her blade and calls out, "Who goes there? I warn you, we are armed!"
Kitoro
|
"Powerful spirits. I've heard of ghosts stealing years from you, but never one that made you younger. How does it feel?"
Faliana "Conduit" Galina
|
Sasha watches the spirit take the years off Inghinn with interest and smiles. "Wow! That's unusual...
He pauses mid spiel as Faliana's more mature face tkes over and she runs after he spirut. " Wait! Wait! Do me next! I'd so love to lose some laugh lines! Come back... Dang he's gone. Oh well. Inghinn you look amazing, we could start making a fake beauty product and make bank off it!"
Kahwen
|
Kahwen looks on with wonder at the latest evidence of what these spirits can do to mortals. While he is a bit jealous that Inghinn only looks younger and he is covered with very painful scars, he does not understand why the others are so impressed.
Then again, he is actually young enough to be Matrialda's grandson so being younger has little appeal to him.
As they move along, something Faliana said before this all started sticks in his mind before stone breaking sounds throughout the building.
"Faliana...did you say you were engaged to a Vanara? Did you mean ENGAGED engaged?" he asks, making a gesture with his hands which is clearly meant to clarify his question but which is pretty much meaningless.
Faliana "Conduit" Galina
|
Fali looks over at Kahwen, adding, "Yes, ENGAGED engaged! WE spent quite some time together on missions in the Mwangi Expanse or Sargava, but we haven't been working together recently. Hope he's been doing okay. WE both seem to be out at the wrong times. He's a wise-cracking, shedding bucket of FUR, but he's one of the kindest souls I've ever met. Hoping we can meet up after this mission, it's his turn to pay for or make dinner!"
Though, as this was actually another PC, we might not be engaged as that didn't happen in game, but it's been enough time I could see it happening. So that might not be completely correct.
Kahwen
|
Kahwen's eyes light up hopefully at Faliana's response.
"That's great! Congratulations. I know people aren't supposed to care but it always seems like there's a barrier between people who look human and people who look...less human," he says.
He strokes his beak thoughtfully.

Not letting their personal conversation distract them, the Pathfinders proceed into the catacombs, preparing to face whatever is down there.
One round of buffing would be permissible but I will proceed.
As they reach an intersection and peer left, those who can see in the darkness note the corridor enters into a moderately wide room where a number of skeletal like creatures are on the move. Three of them are armoured and look ready for battle with longswords in hand. The fourth, toward the back, looks different to the others, with a thick tangle of discoloured entrails clinging to its torso and winding upward to loll from its jaw like a clawed tongue.

Inghinn would default to drawing her greatsword in the buffing round unless told to do otherwise.
Kitoro

Naturally, Kit will fire up a inspire courage performance +2, ready to cancel it and cast saving finale if someone needs to make a failed will or fort ST. Not for a reflex ST though.
Matrialda
|
Matrialda tuts gently as she finishes drawing protective wards around herself like a shawl. ”Now then, don’t go getting yourselves into trouble,” she reminds her companions. ”And let’s make sure nobody is trying to sneak up on us and play some childish prank.” Not that any of her favorite grandchildren would ever do such a thing, mind you, but some folks did not have the benefit of a proper upbringing and were prone to such immature behavior well into adulthood.
Casting mage armor in prep round, casting see invisibility in Round 1. How do folks feel about a chokepoint with grease next round?
Kitoro
|
Naturally, Kit is not going to rush into combat any time soon. Grease is fine with her. So we get both a prep round AND a normal round?
In the prep round Kitoro casts heroism on the biggest beefiest fighter in the group. That means you, Inghinn MacBruthe. 60 minutes of enhanced beefiness for you.
Faliana "Conduit" Galina
|
At the sounds of the commotion down the hall way, Fali looks over at the ulfen lady in the party. "How do you feel about being larger for this fight?" If Ingrinn agrees, Fali reaches a hand out towards her and pauses for a second. The half-elf's face goes through a series of expressions and emotions as power pulses down her hand in small waves flooding into the form of the woman in front of her. Ingrinn seems to grow larger with each pulse. Englarge person on Ingrinn cause that's a medium spell!
Faliana draws out her spear, giving it a small show-off twirl as she slips past Inghinn and sets up a defensive position at the corner, ready to take a few pot shots at any skeletons that might approach without due cautions. She looks back at the group asking, "Any ideas as to what we might be fighting? Any damage resistances?"
She peeks around the corner, curious herself.
Knowledge (religion?): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
She then gives up control of her arms for a moment, and lets Sasha paint a holy symbol of Ashava in lines of power in the air, chanting a prayer of protection as he goes. The spell completes as the symbol creates a small barrier around the woman and spirit. She then takes a position at the ready for stabbing anything coming close.
Move and draw, followed by a Protection Against Evil spell from the Heirophant spirit.
Faliana "Conduit" Galina

Yup! this group has a scary amount of buffing ability. Add in Kit's Heroism and Inspire and this is going to be a 'Inghinn goes and the enemy was atomized' type fight I think.

Woosh! That is a lot to track at the moment. I think I have everything noted correctly. Let me know if I need to make corrections.
Also, I am seeing some low-light vision noted but no darkvision. What are you doing about light sources? There are likely to be some penalties involved in the coming combat.
Sensing they are approaching danger, the Pathfinders spend a few seconds to prepare, drawing weapons and activating spells. Suddenly the young Inghinn is now much larger. Faliana moves to the front of the group and peeks around the corner into the dark.
There continues to be the sound of shuffling and movement. Indeed, one of them sounds like it is approaching closer.

As the catacombs start to get darker, Kahwen pulls his Wayfinder out from under his tunic and speaks a command word. The old, battered more-than-compass lights up faintly.
As they begin to hear the sounds of danger, the tengu goes through a complex kata that changes his stance, making him seem birdlike. Not like a crow, now but move like a tall wading bird.
He then crosses the opening so that he can come at the enemy from another direction.

Dang! Some tight quarters for an Big Girl to swing her sword in! Let's see how this goes!
Inghinn tries her best to move past Fali and Elado without knocking either of them over or smashing them into the wall. As she turns the corner into the central room, she advances a step further and brings her blade down on the red skeleton, using a short, chopping motion with her blade to strke her target despite the short range.

While Kahwen moves past the room's opening and takes a defensive position, Inghinn gently shoulders her way past her colleagues and makes a precise blow with her greatsword to remove the remaining unlife from the creature in front of her.
The armed and armoured skeletons react. Two charge in and the third takes up a position behind them, looking ready to strike if it has the opportunity.
Blue pwr+chg: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 1 + 2 = 28 dmg: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13

Matrialda follows behind Inghinn, peering at the undead creatures with interest. "Oh dear me - those priests certainly wouldn't be happy to hear about these things down here..." she muses.
Knowledge (religion), Spirit: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 13 - 2 = 18
Holding off on grease in case folks want to try to get behind to a flanking position - no need to make that any more difficult than it already is.
Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Blue or Yellow should have provoked an AoO by entering Inghinn's 10ft reach (thanks to being large), then leaving that threatened square to enter base-to-base contact.
I'll post my AoO here, just in case that is correct. You can apply it to whichever target provoked first.
+1 Greatsword AoO: 1d20 + 13 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 4 = 21 Damage (S): 3d6 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) + 8 + 2 = 22
Now that she has more targets stepping up to oppose her, Inghinn makes a pair of powerful strikes against Blue.
Active buffs/debuffs: Spirit penalty, Heroism (+2 morale), Enlarged (+2 Str, -2 Dex, -1 Att), Inspired (+2 competence), Haste (+1 untyped Att, +1 dodge AC/Reflex), Power Attack (-2 Att, +6 Damage)
Bonuses end up with an end result of +2 to Att, 1d6+8 to Damage, and some effects on saves that aren't immediately important
+1 Greatsword Power Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 4 = 23 Damage (S): 3d6 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1, 4) + 14 + 2 = 25
+1 Greatsword Power Attack (Iterative): 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 4 = 28 Damage (S): 3d6 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 5) + 14 + 2 = 29
Actions: Full attack against Blue. If the first strike drops Blue, direct the second strike against Yellow.
Reactions: If any targets moves away, Inghinn uses Step Up and Strike to follow and make an attack of opportunity.
Alternatively, if Green moves up into base-to-base contact with Inghinn without taking a 5ft step, she makes an AoO against Green.
| GM Numbat |
As the skeletons moved into range and attacked Inghinn she made a swipe against the first of them (blue) and by the time it finished its attack it was too late to realise it had been taken apart most effectively, collapsing into a pile of bones on the floor.
This was followed almost immediately by two more swings of the large greatsword at the remaining skeletons, leaving more bones scattered across the floor.
Combat over!
Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Inghinn lets out a slow breath and bends down to check on the claw marks across her thigh. "Don't think it's infected," she says uncertainly.
She steps over the piles of bones and dust that had previously been the undead abominations, making space for the others to come in and check things out while she keeps watch, her blade still in hand.
Kahwen
|
"Not to look a giving unicorn in the horn, but did that seem a little too easy to anyone else?" Kahwen asks.
He heads into the space where the skeletons were carefully, looking for traps or other threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
| GM Numbat |
As the team head into the room and begin to look around more carefully, Kahwen notices the remains of a strange object adhered to one of the catacomb's walls.
Kitoro
|
Also, I am seeing some low-light vision noted but no darkvision. What are you doing about light sources? There are likely to be some penalties involved in the coming combat.
We can assume that whenever they enter an area to dark for her to see by, she will cast light on her whip's tip. Besides helping her to see, it makes for a great light show.
"That was only the first batch, bird friend. Undead seem to come in waves. And though our overly large and powerful warrior frond here did make short work of them, I assure you most common folks would have been just as easily dispatched as they were."
Kit rummages about for some more skeletal and zombie attachments for her puppets, figuring she would be prepared if and when they did run into more.
Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Inghinn blushes as Kit points out how easily her attacks would kill regular people. ”Um...yeah, I’ve been meaning to find a way to keep my weapons from being so deadly. I’ve left a lot of hurt people in my wake.”
Matrialda

Knowledge (arcana), Spirit vs DC 22: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 15 - 2 = 22
"Oh, what a bright young fellow you are Kahwen!" Martrialda beams as she looks at the strange object before the smile slowly turns upside down. "Though... oh my, what a dreadful thing! It's a conduit, you see - this one looks to be ritualistic in nature. Having it here would allow some hooligans to perform some ghastly tradition somewhere else, but have the effects take place here. No doubt that's what brought these poor souls back to unlife." She looks up at Inghinn's massive form, then over at Kahwen. "Do be a dear and pry that thing off, would you? Perhaps if we find more of them we could triangulate where the other end of the connection is."
Kahwen
|
Kahwen's feathers ruffle up then settle back down, the tengu equivalent of a blush at Matrialda's praise.
"Friend Inghinn will probably have more luck getting that thing down," he says, looking up (way up) at the big woman.
"Time to move to the next site?" he asks after that work is done.
Kitoro
|
For the heck of it, even though it might not help, Kit pulls out her Inghinn puppet and has it thrash a few of the skeletal puppets she found, and then yank an objject off her finger lustily and stomp it a few times for good measure.
Inspire Competence, +2 to a skill roll (which means it probably won't help since this will probably be a strength check).
"Got get it, tiger."
| GM Numbat |
As before, you can try to sanctify the monument by working together. Each of you can attempt one skill check using one of the following skills: Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (religion), Perform (dance), or Spellcraft. You may not use aid another on these skill checks. A specific number of successes are required to sanctify the monument.

"This city sure does honor it's performers. I suspect a good dance will do the trick and put this place in it's right mind."
Kit goes into a Wild Child routine, a very energetic one with dramatic blows and her reeling from blows. It looks VERY physcial and exhausting.

Kahwen and only watch, impressed, as his companions again show their great skills in areas that he knows nothing about.
Faliana "Conduit" Galina
|
Faliana, as soon as she realizes the things they were fighting are undead stops clearly fighting off Sasha for control of her body. She freezes and stays stuck like that as Inghinn deals with them in short but brutal swings and then through the further investigation. She finally seems to reach a deal with the spirit after a few minutes and blinks again her eyes watering as they try to remoisturize.
She notices that the group seems to be consecrating the site and settles into a belly dance that seems to tell a story, iterating the story while she dances. "A long time ago, in this very city there was a woman..."
Diplomacy, spirit penalty: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 15 - 2 = 33
Inghinn MacBruthe
|
Remembering the small amount of instruction her father gave her on the veneration of Iomedae, Inghinn turns her blade down and rests its tip on the floor as she kneels and tries to curry the favor of the spirits still trying to be at rest in this place.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Also, what kind of roll do you need from me to try to unstick that object stuck to the wall? Or will that come off as part of the sanctification?
| GM Numbat |
Having learned the ritual from Davorge, the team are able to successfully repeat the most important elements to sanctify the Cenotaph.
10 minutes plus a successful Knowledge(religion) check gains a +1 or +2 morale bonus to fortitude saves for the remainder of the scenario as long as this Monument Boon is in effect. You can benefit from only one monument boon at a time – successfully gaining the boon of a new monument ends the effects of the previous boon.
Inghinn, I will say you have no trouble prying off the remaining pieces of the object from the wall.
Upon returning to the surface and the priests of Pharasma, the Pathfinders receive praise for their decisive actions and gifts of thanks. The priests, between them, present the Pathfinders with a scroll of resortation, a lesser talisman of life’s breath, and a strand of prayer beads (lesser).
I’ll wait to see if anyone wants to attempt the Monument Boon and then move us to the next monument.
