Bruneau Havelok
|
This is only my second time doing space combat. I _thought_ I understood what I could and should do, but can I get a verification?
Bruneau, as captain, can do one thing per round. Like, I can taunt or encourage. If I taunt during engineering phase I can't also encourage at gunnery phase. Right?
So far, has it been more helpful for me to taunt or encourage?
GM Wolffauer
You are correct (and feel free to make your action before the phase you want to effect). The goblins have had little luck hitting you, so I'd say encouraging would be better. (And technically, taunt can only be used on each ship once - the Goblin Song is a special ability which can be used each turn)

Wow, it's spread to Cap'n Bacon.
Oh no, is it contagious!?
therealthom
Apparently so. On the plus side, I've never before doubled anyone's damage via divert power. So I'm feeling good.
Here's hoping you all recover before our next combat, because Lady Luck is probably going to look around and even out the nice set of rolls I had.
Obo was on fire! She's allowed a low roll or two.

Guys, I'll be on vacation with very limited or no web access for 10-11 days.
Botting Raia :
Melee tactical baton v KAC 1d20+5 ( damage 1d4+2; analog, operative)
Ranged thunderstrike sonic pistol v EAC 1d20+6 ( damage 1d8+2 So; critical deafen [DC 14])
Lashunta Spell-Like Abilities (CL 4th)
1/day—detect thoughts
At will—daze, psychokinetic hand
Technomancer Spells Known (CL 4th, ranged +6)
2nd (3/day)—flight*, invisibility
1st (4/day)—comprehend languages, grease, magic missile, overheat
0 (at will)—dancing lights, detect magic, energy ray, ghost sound, mending, transfer charge
*This spell can be cast using a 1st- or 2nd-level spell slot to varying effect. See the spell’s description.
Flight at 1st level = feather fall, at 2nd level = levitation
[ooc] In this fight she's really hoping the goblins will bunch up and she can catch 2-4 in overheat. I tend to be stingy with spells. No more than 2 per encounter if we are winning; more to save a situation.
She's quite comfortable using her gun instead of magic.

Map note: The ceiling goes up 80 feet. A 40-foot-high steel catwalk bisects the open expanse of the chamber and skirts the perimeter.
Here’s my reasoning on the DCs to climb towards the catwalk:
The silo-looking round thing to the north of Obo seems to go all the way up to the catwalk, since it’s built around it; it’s dented and stands next to another large object, which probably doesn’t go all the way up since it seems to be a fallen down silo.DC 15 for a rough surface or a wall with adequate handholds or DC 20 for an uneven surface with narrow handholds, to climb the standing silo;
-5 DC modifier from Climbing a corner on the dented silo; or -10 DC modifier from Bracing against two opposite walls if possible to squeeze between standing silo and fallen silo, at least for the first check.
I’d make two climbing checks to get up to 30 ft., and the following round a third check to get on the catwalk.
Is it possible? And which DC?
GM Wolffauer
The two silo like things are part of the old transport hold, while the part in between them is a piece of The Archer which the goblins removed. The first "silo" was damaged when The Archer crashed into the hold.
I'd give climbing the first silo a DC 15 - treating the damaged area as a rough surface, no modifiers.
Two checks to reach the top of the silo and a the third check to jump from the silo to the catwalks.

Yep, great job all -- I never know how to strike the balance between keeping spells for tough fights and actually using them.
Welcome back Thom, hope you had a great vacation!

Thanks for botting me so well. That last post was exactly what I would have liked to try.
My computer is acting up, and I've got house renovations and a business trip for this weekend and next week. Communication will remain spotty for at least the next week. I will try to check in as often as I can, but don't let me hold things up. Feel free to bot Raia to keep the game rolling.

Great pickup, Peff. I was clueless, totally.
TR, thanks for botting my girl. I was really happy to see grease work. It was one of my go tos in PF, but I'd had bad luck with it and written it off in SF. It was kind of funny -- for the last few rounds of the fight I kept logging in to find you'd already acted for Raia. I was never sure how work would go so I didn't say anything.
I should be on a more consistent schedule this week.

No problem, it worked really well since my characters was mostly paralyzed during the combat.
Grease is one of my favorites, but right now I don't have any caster built to use save or suck spells - I'm almost convincing myself to play a witchwarper focused on casting (got a couple of Quorlu boons set aside for it), and Grease would be one of the first picks. It's an amazing debuff, especially against anyone with a weapon.

With the opening of the vault, we've reached the end of Claim to Salvation. We can wrap up and RP and debrief this week.
The interior of the false moon is further explored in the following scenarios:
#1-09: Live Exploration Extreme! (Lvl 1-4)
#1-20: Duskmire Accord 9 (Lvl 1-4)
#2-04: Future's Fall (Lvl 7-10)
#3-06: Rise of the Vault Lord (Lvl 7-10)
GM Wolffauer
Yep, just a regular scenario in size. I don't like how suddenly it ends, but I love the story that goes along with it. In-person the realization about the Ettin is great to see.
I'll pull together chronicle sheets today.
Keskodai -- Pregen
I would like a +1 SkS too, please!
Thank you for running this Wolffauer! It was a pleasure playing with all of you!
GM Wolffauer
Adventure has been reported, and chronicle sheets are up on my Dropbox (named after the pre-gen you played).
Let me know if you find any problems or need anything changed (like if you want to apply it to a 1st level character)

The ending is jarringly abrupt.
If any of you haven't played it, I recommend Live Exploration Extreme! It's the only follow-on that I've played. Of course part of the fun may have been that I didn't know the back story, so a lot of things didn't make sense until the end.
