Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

For a millennium, Golarion rested safe in the knowledge that history's most infamous lich, the Whispering Tyrant, was securely locked away. After a cataclysmic explosion sundered his prison, the Tyrant roams free once more. But he didn’t simply abandon his prison. Deep beneath the ground, behind nearly impenetrable magical wards, he has set in motion a necromantic ritual of extraordinary power. It's up to the Pathfinders to battle the Tyrant's guardians, break the wards, and stop the ritual that could make him unstoppable. Along the way, they’ll discover what secrets the Tyrant wanted to protect and keep from falling into his enemies' hands.

An unlikely gathering anywhere outside the Pathfinder Society: A talk middle-aged human man dressed in the finery of a Galtan noble leans on a spear as he chats with a gnome in a pith helmet, a half-orc clad in no more than a loincloth, and a lithe Vudrani man wearing the uniform of one of the Houses of Perfection.

"Teamwork will be of the essence, of course," says the man. "Our intelligence reports that the armies of undead are truly massive."

The half-orc grunts, "Neil's axe and claws will fell many undead today. Who will take down the wards?"

[b]"The trickery of the Tyrrant cannot keep us out. We will unravel his ruses and turn the fury of the elements on him." The Vudrani man's eyes glow like coals at the thought.

"And I'll keep you alive while you do it!" interjects the gnome.

Two humanoids glide down into the meeting on leathery wings. One is a massive half-orc in spiked plate, with a slavering jaw of razor sharp teeth protruding from beneath a half-helm. Cradled against his battered cuirass is a small figure in a funerary shroud.

Beside him, floating on shimmering bat-like wings is an athletic woman wearing a featureless golden mask. A row of metal spines rise from the forehead and crown of the mask, giving way to a reptilian frill which runs down the back of her bald head. The skin there is pebbled and scaly.

She is draped in elegantly folded robes which leave bare one muscular shoulder. Two monkeys perch there, chittering away.

"What!?" shouts the little figure in the white shroud. "I'm blind, not deaf, now put me down and point me to the venture captain!"

The massive orc sets the man down, shaking his head in irritation, and the little figure waddles on twisted legs, the long white beard of a bleached gnome trailing on the ground at his feet.

"We're here to join an army of the dead?" asks the little figure as the woman gracefully touches down.

"No, my dear Azamzama, we are here to stop one," says the woman in gold, "And with the help of our fellow Pathfinders, we will."

Turning to the assembled adventurers, she introduces herself in a demure, throaty voice. "Greetings brothers and sisters. I am Venture Captain Archaememnon. This is Azamzama Venkmatn, the noted undead tamer. With me is Dravakuul the Risen and these are Remy and Pickle." One of the monkeys draws a toothpick from his mouth and salutes you.

"With discipline and courage, we will make the society proud."

The winged aasimar tries to keep up with the knight on horseback. He carries a sheaf of papers. "Venture-Captain, my analysis of the enchantments indicates that the Whispering Tyrant has power unlike any I have ever seen on Golarion. I recommend you read this report - "

The knight is tall and broad-shouldered, with flowing blond hair and shining blue eyes. The sword-and-sunburst of Iomedae adorns his shield. Clearly frustrated, he cuts off the scholar. "Enough, Daathiel! Facts and numbers can only take you so far. It was not through analysis that I defeated Runelord Krune, Koth'Vaul, the Sun Orchard thieves, and the gravest threats in the Society's existence. Action is called for. You may not understand, Emberkin, but I am of Vigil, in Lastwall. This is my home. To oppose the Whispering Tyrant is our reason for being.
Yes, your report may be useful. Bring it. I respect your mental acumen, but there is no time to develop a perfect plan. I will take the fight to Tar-Baphon and I will triumph or I will perish."

The aasimar nods. "But I do understand, Sir Hendric. More than a few of my angelic ancestors fought in the Shining Crusade. I am with you."

The knight looks back. "Where is that shifty half-elf? The Feysworn?"

"On a mission to the Emerald Spire, along with the one who thinks he is Aroden reborn."

"Huh. Well, I can't say I trust the Feysworn all that much. And Aroden, whoever he may be, is promising but needs more seasoning. What about the Lastwall infantryman?"

"Dealing with matters in Arwyll Stead."

"A pity. You and me, then?"

The aasimar looks back. "Well... Seelah and Valeros asked if they could serve under your banner."

The knight looks a bit concerned. "Really? They know the stakes? Okay, then."

He introduces himself the group. "I am Venture-Captain Sir Hendric of Lastwall, Champion of Iomedae. And I will fight to the last for my country and my goddess. May honor and justice guide us." Even those who have seen him before, like Peter Zarr, have never seen the knight quite so determined and driven. Never before has a battle been quite so personal to him.

"Aye" the dwarf says in a rough harsh tone, "Looks like we arnt the oney ones" He says pointing a nubby fingers at the others.

Bringing up the rear of the group, not saying a word is a halfling, riding a large tiger. He looks back and forth, just taking in his surroundings and occasionally pats the tiger on its flank.

The elf approaches the others and nods, "Ah, Sir. Wynnreyell Moonsilver. Retired Seeker, well sort of. Keep getting pulled back into these frays. Somehow, you all always find me."

A chelaxian man with fine clothing and obviously fiendish features wears a sad look on his face upon hearing the news. He contemplates carefully before adding.

" With the exception of Hendric, I don't think I've met most of you before, but I'm Venture Captain Peter Zarr. My friends call me Pete, and I'd like to think that includes most pathfinders I've worked with. I've made a career in the society summoning fiends and angels alike to intervene and ensure that our agents make it out alive. Also, as a perk of being a venture captain, I've summoned some more mundane assistance for this mission. Let me introduce to you..."

A corpulencent man floating in the air interjects " Not a venture captain, but the names Mardak, and I'm a far superior mage. Why summon things to deal with the problem when magic can be evoked to do so directly"

" Yes yes, well, in our mages duels..." Pete disagrees

" Irrelevant, you're just faster on the draw, whichever of us goes first always wins." Mardak continues.

Peter sighs and points to a birdlike aasimar carrying a bow. " This would be Souken, one of the finest archers in the society". The man silently bows and then offers, " I'll do my best to guard your flank, my arrows usually prevent any difficulties with those duties."

Peter geastures to the third pathfinder assembled with him " Finally, we have Venture Captain Gledrel. " Gledrel continues, " Nice to meet you all, I command the spirits, and nature abhors the undead. I often use my powers to fight, but Daathiel's reports concern me and suggest I'd best be preparing every restorative spell I can for this mission. The undead use all sorts foul attacks, and we'll need every restorative spell I can muster"

A garrulous, barrel-chested half orc with a tankard prominently hanging from his belt meanders up to the gathering Pathfinders. This could only be Venture Captain Bristor Gwin, Lord of Fangwood Keep and High Brother of Cayden Cailean.

“Ho ho! I may be the last to the party, but I venture I’ll be the last to leave as well! Har! Took me a bit longer than I thought to get here from Fangwood Keep. Had to pick up this lot . . .” he says as he points over his shoulder at three other Pathfinders.

Recognizing many familiar faces, Bristor’s grin widens even further. “Archie! Remy! Why is that Ugly Neil? And Zam Zam! Bless my mug, Traveling Max. Oh the night’s I’ve stayed up late with some of this lot. Why what a group. Tar Barphon should be wetting his robes or whatever it is he wears.”

“I brought some solid assistance as well, and now I’ve been remiss in my introductions.”

“This here,” pointing to a tall slender tiefling who appears to have been dessicated in a salt bath, “is none other than the Azurite Sage himself, Merrick of Quantium. Deadly with the bow and bomb. Castrate a fly from a hundred paces.”

A deeply embarrassed Kitsune in the finest clothes holding a kerchief to his nose interjects, “Allow me to introduce myself. Kettrick. Charmed, I’m sure.” His disdain for most of you comes off in waves, but you likely find yourself wishing he’d be your friend.

Not to be put off his stride, Bristor claps a red-headed aasimar on the back, “And this here is Chabon. Master of the arcane arts and such. Was hoping to bring some more sword arms, but my protégé is tied up in some giant business and couldn't be reached. He’ll be real sore to have missed this fight.”

“Now who’s in charge of this operation? Looks to me like we might have too many cooks in the kitchen.”

The doors of Skyreach, the central fortress of the Grand Lodge in Absalom, stand open, and Pathfinders of all descriptions mill about at the base of the stairs, expressions of excitement, fear, and determination on their faces. Atop the staircase leading into the tower, Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus gestures for silence.

Marcos is known for his good cheer. Today, however, his expression is grim. He clears his throat before speaking, his voice a low rumble. "Yes, you heard me correctly. Gallowspire is gone, and the Whispering Tyrant has escaped. The Whispering Tyrant, who slew a goddess and conquered nations with armies of undead, has returned." He pauses and sighs. "And he’s been busy." Marcos gestures to the man standing next to him and nods. "This is Siege Lord Wynsal Starborn, and he has more information on recent events."

The other man steps forward, his breastplate gleaming. "We know that a massive explosion enveloped Gallowspire, and we know that undead hordes have swept throughout Lastwall. I have already sent scouts to investigate Gallowspire. They found a mysterious jungle surrounding the tower, or at least, where the tower should have been. The tower was gone, and there was a massive crater where it once stood. At considerable personal risk, the scouts who were most skilled at evading detection went inside the ruin itself. Fortunately, they survived, and they had the following to report. First, the ruins beneath still contain access points to the chambers below. Second, the Whispering Tyrant took the time to set up wards to block access to the deepest levels. Third, and most disturbingly, there are necromantic energies beyond these wards, energies so powerful that they are leaking into the surrounding area. The scouts surmise that a ritual of incredible intensity is taking place somewhere deep beneath the crater. It is building toward something, and with every passing day, it grows stronger."

Marcos Farabellus addresses the crowd again, but his voice holds a hint of fear rarely heard in his speech. "Pathfinders, we must stop this ritual. The Whispering Tyrant has had thousands of years to plan what he would do if he ever escaped. I shudder to think of the terrors he plans to unleash. This is not just a problem for Lastwall; it’s a problem for the entire world." His voice quiets, "I have no idea what else you’ll find on the deepest levels, what guardians and treasures the Whispering Tyrant has locked away. Be prepared for anything."

"This is going to be a significant undertaking, and you’ll have about a day to prepare while we get everyone else up to speed and set the logistics. Once you arrive, meet with Venture-Captain Shevar Besnik and Silver Crusade leader Ollysta Zadrian. Be sure to prepare for a dangerous journey both above and below ground. I wish you the best of luck, for all our sakes."

Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus and Siege Lord Wynsal Starborn do their best to answer questions you might have about the Whispering Tyrant and how to fight him, the crater, the mysterious jungle, the dungeon, how to get into the ruins.

"Any questions for us?"

While you ask your questions, Janira Gavix winds her way through the assembled Pathfinder teams.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, you likely have at least some preparations to make before you set out for the remains of Gallowspire and the jungle surrounding them, the Gallowgarden. Introduce yourselves to one another, if you haven't already done so, and make any purchases you need while you're still here in Absalom."

Then the halfling bard hustles off to remind another nearby team of field agents.

Peter askes ,"How long do we have to prepare before we set out for the jungle. "

He then recounts a history lesson for Hendric.
" The gods may well usually be a source of reliable and useful information, but remember, it was Aroden killing Tar-Baphon that made him an incomparable lich. If I were to cast commune during out day what questions would yes no questions would want answered? I have some modicum of divine assistance, and we have many agents who will bring that to bear. I can easily answer some questions without my diety from simple intuition. Is it a trap? Of course! But together we recently stopped a powerful agent of the whispering tyrant, and I see no reason why we don't marshal the full force of the society to try to stop this."

If you want to provide the material component, i'm happy to ask commune if we have at least a day to prepare and thus don't expend that spellslot for our adventure. Personally I've only found use for those sorts of spells as plot devices.

"No offense, Pete, but you do not serve the Inheritor. You would Commune with your god, correct?
Iomedae was one of the leaders of the Shining Crusade that defeated and imprisoned the Whispering Tyrant, so I thought she personally might have something to say.
Then again, Iomedae was the leader of the Knights of Ozem, and it was her decision to summon..."
Sir Hendric looks pained, then has a resigned expression on his face as he says the name "...Arazni."
A question I asked here and got a quasi-canonical "Yes" from Erik Mona.
The knight has spoken about the former herald of Aroden in hushed tones for his entire career, avoiding even saying the name. What only a few Venture-Captains might know is that he has been seeking to use the resources of the Society to find the Bloodstones and restore Arazni to life. A plan that seems unlikely to ever come to fruition now.

Anyway, asking about Commune for RP flavor rather than actually putting it forth as a plan.

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

"The Society has had very little success with divinations, including our clerics' attempts to commune with their dieties, but we're telling you what we do know--and what we don't," Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus answers. "The Whispering Tyrant a lich of such power that he could only be imprisoned, not destroyed. The country of Lastwall was founded with the single purpose of monitoring Gallowspire, where the Whispering Tyrant was trapped. There are dark times ahead."

Siege Lord Wynsal Starborn says, "The reports we have received from Lastwall indicate that his attention lies elsewhere, and the scouts saw no signs of his presence. We can’t rule out the possibility that he will catch on to what we are doing. If he does, we’ll have to trust his arrogance and his certainty that we couldn’t possibly breach his wards and defeat his guardians."

Marcos adds, "I can’t promise that he won’t return, but it’s a risk we will have to take. The price of letting him complete the ritual is simply too high."

"The crater is deep," the Master of Swords continues, "and it cut through many of the upper levels of the dungeons beneath Gallowspire. I can’t imagine what kind of power it took to create it. At least the crater makes it easier to get straight to some of the deeper levels."

"The scouts may have been able to sneak into the upper levels of the ruins, but you’ll be contending with the parts of the complex that the Whispering Tyrant has a reason to protect. Breaking the seal on the lower levels is likely to be quite obvious, to say nothing of stopping the ritual itself. And that’s not even accounting for whatever traps, wards, and guardians Tar-Baphon has put in place."

Regarding what sorts of minions Tar-Baphon commands, Wynsal replies, "I imagine whatever defenders lie beyond his wards are primarily undead in the dungeons. Reports I’ve received from other nations suggest that some of the Tyrant’s most infamous servants, who had been imprisoned with him, may also be on the loose. But it would be foolhardy to assume he didn’t leave some of them behind. I am also sure there are powerful magic wards, as well as a variety of other evil creatures."

"People are calling the mysterious jungle the 'Gallowgarden.' The scouts report horrible amalgamations of fungus and animal as well as vicious plants. While it appears the Whispering Tyrant took most of his undead servants with him, whatever this explosion was created new threats."

"Exactly, Wynnreyell Moonsilver." Janira grins.

"But there's some good news, too," she adds. "With such a large number of powerful, experienced Pathfinders traveling to Gallowspire, including numerous administrative staff members, you'll have access to spellcasting services as if you were in a large city."

"Furthermore, given the dire circumstances, Absalom’s Siege Lord Wynsal Starborn has provided the Pathfinder Society with a large supply of diamond dust to help defray the cost of the most expensive of spells. The first time during the mission that a field agent uses one of the following spellcasting services, it costs only half as much as usual: greater restoration, raise dead, resurrection, and true resurrection. Marcos Farabellus stands atop the steps of Skyreach and waves his hands. “Pathfinders! It is nearly time to depart. We’ve sent scouts ahead to prepare an anchor for teleportation. Finish your preparations and make your way through the teleportation circle inside Skyreach.” The Master of Swords sets his jaw. “Brace yourselves. Our arrival point is not pleasant.”

One after another, Pathfinders step onto an immense glyph on the floor, the center of the teleportation circle. As they do, they each vanish into thin air, only to reappear in a distant location. The beautifully carved and painted stone walls of Skyreach fade into a moss-covered expanse of ancient ruins. On the other side of the circle, the air is warm, humid, and filled with the cloying stench of rotten meat.

Standing atop one of the ruins, a figure in gleaming full plate beckons the first arrivals to her. She waits silently, her face grim, until the remainder of the expeditionary force arrives. She then addresses the assembled group. “Welcome to Ustalav, Pathfinders. I am Ollysta Zadrian, leader of the Silver Crusade. Thank you for coming so quickly. Let me get straight to the point. The nearest undead horde is likely to sweep through this area in the next hour or so, and we must not remain overlong. Please, follow me.”

After a tense but brief journey, the expedition arrives at the edge of a dark jungle. The vegetation is thick, but the plants are twisted and gnarled. A group of Pathfinders dressed to blend in with the surrounding terrain step forward and greet the expedition. Their leader, a thin human man with long hair, smiles when he sees Zadrian. “Ollysta, you old war dog. It looks like you found yourself a small army. I hope it’s enough.”

The paladin’s expression remains focused and stern. “Yes, I hope so too. You should tell them what we know.” The man smiles charmingly. “Greetings, Pathfinders. I’m Shevar Besnik, up until recently the venture-captain of Vigil. I technically still am, I suppose,” he says, his smile turning sour. “These few individuals with me are all of the surviving Pathfinders from Vigil’s destruction. So they were the only Pathfinders left around here to teach the Tyrant a lesson. Until you got here, that is!”

Shevar continues, “Our first job is to make our way through this jungle. I know some of you probably have the means to bypass the jungle entirely and get to the crater, but that would mean certain death for those who can’t. Let’s stick together and make sure we all make it to the other side.” Ollysta raises her shield, which is emblazoned with a golden holy symbol of Sarenrae, “No matter what we face, Pathfinders, remember: the dawn brings new light. May Sarenrae’s grace guide our blades.” Shevar adds, “And with that, let’s meet whatever this twice-damned forest can throw at us head on!”

Sir Hendric is at first pleased to see Ollysta Zadrian. Although she is a Sarenrite, and many are suspicious of that foreign faith, he has great respect for the leader of the Silver Crusade. In fact, such is the knight's devotion to the paladin that his only trip to the Great Beyond came when he fought by the paladin's side in the Worldwound. He refused to leave her side against overwhelming odds, prevented her body from being taken by fiends, and nearly slew the towering monstrosity that had slain her. As it was, he fell as well, but the Silver Crusade leader and knight together bought enough time for their comrades to finish their task. And both have since recovered.

When Shevar Besnik speaks, Sir Hendric looks ashen.

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Ollysta Zadrian and Shevar Besnik lead the Pathfinders into the Gallowgarden. Among the vegetation, you see numerous pieces of stone ruins.

"The ruined city of Adorak once extended all of the way up to Gallowspire," pipes up Janira Gavix, tagging along behind the team. "But when a jungle suddenly emerged from the ground, the ruins were uprooted and shattered."

As soon as you enter Gallowgarden, the jungle seems to responds to you. With supernatural speed, bruise-colored clouds gather in the sky above the jungle, bringing with them a stinging rain that reeks of embalming fluid. Just above the tree line, horizontal bolts of purple lightning leap between the clouds. Thunder rumbles unceasingly across the landscape.

Knowledge (nature) or Survival DC15:
You realize that none of the plants in the area are natural, and that they are instead amalgamations of plant, fungal, and animal matter. No normal animals or plants live here.

The strange vegetation bears odd marks and patterns reminiscent of skulls, eyes, and spattered blood. The air is humid, heavy, and oily; it smells like the wet ashes of a funeral pyre.

The terrain of the Gallowgarden is positively hateful. The plants creep and move of their own accord , slowly shifting to cover trails. No doubt, getting along in the wild and followings tracks will be exceedingly more difficult. The corrupted jungle does not abide the presence of travelers, and abilities like woodland stride and trackless step don't appear to function at all--at least for beings who aren't aligned with its malevolence.

"A mortuary tempest." Shevar Besnik says, eyeing the storm. "Strange, necromantic weather phenomenon, a unique feature of the area around Gallowspire."

The severe winds rage and an acidic sleet slowly eats through both mundane equipment and unprotected skin. The acid rain creates small holes in some of your gear and causes painful blisters on your skin, but you're able to weather those irritations. The jungle provides shelter from the worst of the storm, but you suspect those who venture above the canopy won’t be so lucky. Up there, you'd be fully exposed to the acid and to the lightning.

"Now's the time," Ollysta Zadrian announces. "Prepare your spells, equip yourselves, and be ready."

(If you haven't yet done so, please indicate your preparations.)

The team readies itself to meet the unknown dangers of the Gallowgarden. Launching his inner dragon 20 feet into the air, Archaememnon flits like a big orange moth beneath the canopy as high as he can go, the occasional branch knocking some sense into Julian.

Roughly halfway through the twisted jungle, the path ahead opens a bit into a clearing. The few trees and ancient buildings here are coated with a heavy layer of sickly, green fungus that oozes a sweet-smelling, purple fluid when disturbed. The slowly moving stream to the east gives off a pungent odor here. A yellowish mist clings to its surface.

In the clearing, you see a massive green ram-like creature, its pelt is a tangle of vines, and its horns are wickedly sharp wooden branches. Next to it is a towering, four-armed humanoid that seems to be made of moss and splintered wood, its face sinister and mouthless.

The large four-armed humanoid speaks in a language that sounds like a corpse being dragged through dead leaves, and the gargantuan goat rumbles a growl deep in its throat.

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Bristor recognizes the large red plant creature as a mosslord. Peter confirms that and also identifies the gargantuan blue plant creature as a barometz. The mystic theurge is convinced the moss lord used its ability to speak with plants to communicate with the barometz.

Peter shares what he knows - and it's a great deal. "The barometz has two special attacks: powerful charge - causing graver injuries with its goring horns - and trample, overrunning its foes; it has the special defenses and special abilities of the traits common to all plant creatures."

"A mosslord has four special attacks: deadwood curse - when critically injuring you it can transform one of your limbs into an immobile wooden branch, sapping your strength; fungal infestation - coating you in necrotic fungus with its touch, reducing your charisma damage and causing physical wounds to bleed; sheets of moss, yellow mold blast - discharging a 20ft-square blanket of toxic moss up to 90ft, automatically entangling and sickening you with its poison, possibly damaging your constitution until the moss is destroyed, only by cold or effects that specifically target plants, or the yellow mold dissipates in a little less than a minute."

"A mosslord's special defenses and special abilities? It's perennial - when a mosslord dies, its body decomposes normally but regrows in 60 days. It regenerates, as well, but that can be suppressed by inflicting cold damage."

"A mosslord has many spell-like abilities. In constant effect are nondetection, pass without trace, see invisibility, and speak with plants. At will, it can cast command plants, fear, mind thrust, transport via plants, and tree shape. A limited number of times per day, it can also cast animate plants, displacement, control plants, and microcosm."

"Immunities?" Julian asks and answers, "A mosslord is immune to fire, and it has the other common immunities associated with the traits of most plant creatures. It might have other resistances, as well."

Peter's mouth is dry after a lengthy discourse on the many dangers of the foes the team faces. He tosses an arcane glitter bomb at the menacing vegetable duo, and heads for the treetops. At an elevation of 25ft, he's hidden in the dense foliage of the jungle canopy, the soles of his flip-flops poking out from the leaves the only thing the rest of the team can see.

The sparkling, red mosslord roars waving its four arms wilding, claws slashing through the air.

Very angry Plant speech:
"The m#%!#~&@%$%* went for my eyes, Boo! Slay them all!"

Furious, the mosslord hacks up a gob of vomit-green phlegm and spits it almost 60 feet. The giant loogie unfurls as it arcs through the air toward the team, covering them with an entangling and sickening blanket of toxic moss.

Then the mosslord coughs again, this time extruding a puss-yellow puffball and hurling it at the team. Upon impact, the puffball bursts into an unusually thick and potent cloud of yellow mold spores. The cloud of spores fills a 10ft-radius area, obscuring vision as if it were a fog cloud and affecting all creatures within the area with particularly poisonous yellow mold.

We're definitely going to move to get closer to them, but if you meet us where we end up, you'll be able to shoot with impunity.

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Their constitutions damaged and temporarily nauseated by the yellow mold spores, Bristor, Wynnreyell, and Sir Hendric extricate themselves out of the entangling and sickening sheets of moss and away from the toxic cloud of spores.

Covered in sparkling, golden glitterdust, the gargantuan barometz snorts, paws the earth, lowers its massive head and charges its nearest foe. The earth rumbles as the powerful juggernaut thunders toward Bristor.

*SLAM!* Its wicked sharp wooden horns gore the inquisitor, ripping ragged holes in his flesh and tearing apart his vital organs.

The barometz raises its head and bellows in triumph, its horns raking through the jungle canopy, knocking loose a hailstorm of leaves and branches. "HUUUNNNNNRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!

Julian and Archaememnon, you're up in Round 1, then Peter in Round 2!

Julian pulls out a scroll of antiplant shell and offers it to Archaememnon, then carefully selects and imbibes an elixir of longarm. He'll study the barometz as a swift action.

"We should aid Bristor. He has taken the brunch of this encounter!"

Peter is unfortunately out of range of Bristor to call upon divine intervention against the savage blow.

I think we need a little cheer in this horrible jungle… Peter quickly calls upon his Acadamae training to call forth an angelic assistant.

A large seductive, winged half elven woman, half snake coalesces into existence next to Bristor. She starts to sing a song of battle against the forces of darkness, inspiring each of the pathfinder with courage. Furthermore, she quickly casts a spell and gently touches Bristors shoulder to ease his wounds and stop the bleeding.

UMD
1d20 + 25 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 25 + 5 = 45

to activate a scroll from another spell list, you must emulate the ability score (in this case, I needed a 29) and the check for a non-listed spell (I needed a 27). See UMD

"We don't know if this thing can be damaged by fire, but it's worth a shot."

She quickens a fireball, being careful to catch only the barometz.

She then flies to bring Bristor and Wynnreyell into the protection of the Antiplant Shell. So Arch would be 5' above ground level and 10' from the barometz. I can't press the barrier against it or the spell will collapse (so I can't make melee attacks), but you guys are free to move within the shell to attack the thing.

Studying the barometz, Julian chugs one of his extracts, retrieves a scroll and with an elongated arm holds it out for Archememnon to read.

As soon as Archaememnon reads the scroll, an invisible, mobile barrier surrounds the dragon disciple in a 10ft-radius, keeping all creatures within the shell protected from attacks by plant creatures and animated plants. Then Archaememnon points a golden claw at the barometz, and a glowing, pea-sized bead streaks from his pointing digit and blossoms into an explosive fireball.

The barometz roars in pain, its inhuman eyes blazing with hatred for these intruders into the Gallowgarden.

Academae-trained Peter summons an angelic half-elven hottie, who inspires courage in the team, and then she lays a healing touch on Bristor, closing some of hiss terrible wounds.

Fortunately for the inquisitor, when he screams "Medic!", a nearby team of Pathfinders has a cleric who channels positive energy to provide additional healing.
