This is the discussion thread for the Outpost III online convention game: Overflow Archives. In order to play in this game you have to have first signed up for it on the Outpost III sign up sheet. General admission sign-up begins on Monday, March 2, 2020.
As this is a discussion thread, we talk about stuff here. But before we do, if everyone who is interested in playing could please provide me with the following info:
Player Name
Character Name
PFS #
Faction
Day Job Roll (if any)
Level Progression Speed (slow or standard)
Initiative Modifier
Perception Modifier
Sense Motive Modifier
If you could then "ghost dot" (post some random text with your character and then delete the post) on the Gameplay thread with the character you are playing so that this game shows up on your campaign page.
- A few quick notes
- • This is a Standard-mode game. You can play it with a CORE character, but that PC will forever after be considered a Standard character, and not be able to legally participate in any future CORE events.
- • It is a Tier 1-5 game, so your character must be between 1st and 5th level to play.
- • Content in “The Overflow Archives” contributes directly to the ongoing 6th season storyline of the Dark Archive faction.
- • Other than that there are no real special requirements for this adventure (i.e. you do not need a character to have a certain aptitude for Diplomacy or Stealth, nor do you need someone who can survive on their own in arctic-cold or underwater).
About me I am not a pushy GM, but I would like to finish on time. I hate botting people. I'll do it at need, but I have more than enough NPCs to play as it is. You are signing up to play in an RPG game, so play it. Things happen sure, but in general you should be present, and not just for my sake, but for everyone else at the game table too.
I don't put your character in front of the next door they have to kick down, and I certainly don't kick it down for them. That's called: writing a novel. We are here to game. Your character can do as they like (or not) within the game world. You guys are the heroes here, so you move the story. I'm just here to guide you through the world, and to judge the results.
Our official start date is Monday, March 30th.
Stay thirsty my friends.

For those who don't know, but were curious....
DETERMINING AVERAGE PARTY LEVEL
In order to determine which subtier a mixed-level group of PCs must play in, calculate the group’s Average Party Level (APL).APL = sum of character levels/number of characters If everyone plugs their proposed character's level into the proper place on the sign-up sheet it will automatically calculate this number for you.
Divide the total number of character levels by the number of characters in the party, rounding to the nearest whole number. If the result of the Average Party Level calculation ends with 0.5, the players should decide whether to round up or down....
Starting with Season 4, scenarios were designed for six characters and contained methods to adjust for tables with four players. When the APL of a table is between two subtiers (like APL 3 for a Tier 1–5 scenario), a party of four characters must play the lower tier without any adjustments for party size. A party of five to seven characters whose APL falls between two subtiers must play the higher tier with the "four-character adjustments" found throughout the scenario....

With over 80% of the participants present with at least one still pending a character, I'd like to go over a few not-so-last-minute items.
1. First, thanks for coming!
2. If folks could (if you haven't already) head over to the second page of the google slides document and post some more statistical info about your characters in the space provided, that would be great. (Yeah, I know some of it is a repeat, but I didn't think about it until now.)
3. Marching Order! Consider your marching order, with the idea that folks in the even numbered positions might move up a spot when you can stand in two rows. Also remember to place your pets if any. Take a look at each other's sheets to get a handle on what folks can do in an emergency situation.

4. Has anyone played this scenario before? If so at what level? As this is an investigative adventure, please keep in mind the difference between in- and out-of-character knowledge. Don't spoil things, but also don't hold back from providing info your character might rightfully know.
5. Finally, feel free to post in the Gameplay play thread. We cannot officially start the module until the end of the month, but feel free to RP and get to know one another. Describe your characters in appearance, action in speech. I should note that I despise the typical "We all show up in a meeting room for a briefing" intros... I despise the typical "We all show up in a meeting room for a briefing" intros, so pay attention to that first post in the Gameplay thread.

3. Position 1, or as far up as possible if someone else wants to take point. I'm sneaky, higher level, and decently armored.
4. I did GM this several years ago and have next to no memory of what happens. I'll keep quiet on the investigatory parts, besides what my skill checks reveal.
5. On it.

S#+@! Wrong thread. This:
More questions! Have any of the participating PCs had any interaction with Dean and Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine, or Zarta Dralneen the head of the Dark Archive faction within the Pathfinder Society? If so, how did it go? Did anything notable happen?
goes here.

Some of my other choices are locked in games that will go past the start, so I'll go with this 1xp character.
Player Name: OG3
Character Name: Rectitude

Faction: GL
Day Job Roll (if any): no
Level Progression Speed (slow or standard): standard

So with that decided, we are at 6 PCs with an Average Party Level of 2.5. That means you as a group can decide what Tier we play at, by choosing what level you want to round to.
If the result of the Average Party Level calculation ends with 0.5, the players should decide whether to round up or down.
If for instance you decide to round down to APL level 2, we'll play in the low subtier (meant for characters of level 1-2). If you choose to round up we'll play in the high subtier (meant for PCs of level 4-5). We would have to play in that subtier because we have 5+ PCs.
If we do aim high, we would be playing with the "four character adjustment" which makes things a little easier usually by lessening the number of antagonists, lowering some DCs, and imposing penalties on higher level foes.
When the APL of a table is between two subtiers (like APL 3 for a Tier 1–5 scenario), a party of four characters must play the lower tier without any adjustments for party size. A party of five to seven characters whose APL falls between two subtiers must play the higher tier with the four-character adjustments found throughout the scenario.
On the whole this is not a particularly deadly adventure (for instance, there are no derro rogues hiding in magical darkness, with poisoned daggers), but it will challenge your character's skills, and your role-playing. There are challenges in this adventure that cannot be solved with a sword (or kinetic blast).
You folks decide!
Oh, and if you haven't done so already don't forget all the other things I asked about above.

![]() |

I’d go with high tier with four players adjustment.

![]() |

I'm always willing to play high tier, but if anyone is concerned I think we should play low.
Nothing notable for the three NPCs.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Pending at least Jezu, as his would be one of the characters most affected by facing multiple CR 5ish+ encounters. I've played the 4th level sorcerer in the 9th level Big Boss End Fight. It is not always a happy ending.
And where do you want to be in the marching order? Up front where all the action is, or way at the back where all the ambush predators are waiting? ;)

![]() |

Tofang can take the lead as well.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Tofang can take the lead as well.
{Hands out baseball bats, and lengths of tire chain to the players at the table, sits back, and instructs them to fight over discuss it reasonably among themselves.}

Sorry for inactivity
Jezu's fine with high tier 4-player adjustments.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

High tier 4-player adjustments it is.
The PCs can hang out for as long as they like outside in the campus greens.
We cannot officially start until the 30th. I'm not actually sure when the 30th officially begins since this is world-wide event, but we still have time, so you have a few days to finalize you characters, discuss your marching order, figure out who you are playing with and feel free to chat in-character on the Gameplay thread, or here out-of-character.

![]() |

Hey, sorry for my late arrival. This is my first week off work due to the shutdown, and while you'd think that would help me post more, it's been an adjustment.
Catching up and will post in Gameplay shortly!
FYI, Kolris was just awarded a chronicle as well, so I need to update his sheet for that. He won't level up, so it's just a matter of minor things, but could include some purchases.

![]() |

Kolris is a member of the Dark Archive, and has successfully completed side missions for Zarta Dralneen in the past. They haven't had notable interactions besides these kinds of side quests, otherwise.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Thanks! I try to make them as interactive as possible. Speaking of which, the whole situation with gathlain's does put you in mind of something you have heard before.
More later tonight.

Wow! I am completely lost! :-)
Can someone explain what is going on.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Sometimes I hate messageboards....
So as I had previous written, and am rewriting now, the party was called together in the middle of the knight to solve the mystery of the sudden flooding of one of the Society's book depositories.
The only apparent suspect--even though it strikes Mater of Scrolls Kreighton Shane as silly, is a bit of parchment with a couple of riddles written on it entitled The Name of the Fox which was somehow unintentionally triggered by wanna-be Pathfinder Virml.
Currently the party has been tasked with finding the source of the problem and putting it right before the Overflow Archive is completely flooded and all of it contents (much of which is unregistered and unlooked at) is destroyed.
That is the gist of things.
I should note, there are some clues.... For example, two posts back on this thread.

![]() |

Thanks!

![]() |

As I have run this in the past, I'm trying to avoid interacting too much with certain aspects of this scenario. I am trying to sneakily share the object I spotted with the party, however.

Remember, your PC can still do the things they would normally do in the situation. Having player/GM foreknowledge is not something that should force you to sit out the game. You are here play after all.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Quick note, I am shifting Jezu to the bench for now as he hasn't posted for over a week and he has yet to respond to my PM.

![]() |

Thanks for letting us know!

![]() |

What do we do with the fish?

![]() |

We finish our mission promptly.

![]() |

Maybe just killing it is an option to stop the flooding?!

![]() |

Sorry, really didn’t think about the water. :-( More Library areas need a thorough drying now.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Alright, so as it looks like we will NOT be finished by Monday, I'll need to two things for everyone.
One, I will need everyone to make a couple of die rolls for boons below. Roll a d20 and a d3. A roll of a 19 or 20 on the d20 wins one of 3 lovely boons.
Second, I will need to know who would like to continue. At our current rate of posts we should be able to finish inside a couple/three weeks.
So roll, and lemme know.
Here comes the BOON! 1d20 ⇒ 191d3 ⇒ 2 BOOYA! Now I just have to figure out what that means.
