Abalyn remembers that during the conversations you had with the elves in their city, it was mentioned that gold is dangerous, and only given to honored members of their society because it has to be "purified" first. In retrospect, at the time you thought maybe this was a religious thing, but now it seems that there may be some sort of actual poison in the gold that is mined in this region.

Zim, somewhat oblivious to the world around him, finally notices a sack of gold a few feet away. He carefully opens one and gingerly removes a sample of the ore and examines it.

Zim holds the small chunk of gold a bit away from his face, and notices a sheen on the surface of the gold. Though he is unable to tell the exact nature of the poison, he's fairly certain that the sheen on the outside holds the poison, and after inspecting his hands, he sees a bit of that same sheen on his fingertips.
So basically, Zim has potentially exposed himself to some sort of poison. What do you all do now?

Hawk is able to determine fairly easily that these cultists are suffering the effects of arsenic poisoning. He knows that arsenic is an ingested poison, so simple contact shouldn't cause the poisoning. He also knows that Zim should probably thoroughly wash his hands, after the contact that he had with the gold.

"Good news Zim, just standard run of the mill arsenic poisoning it seems. Wash your hands off so it doesn't get on anything you eat and you should be fine." Hawk looks at Abalyn. "Think you can do anything for them knowing it is arsenic poisoning?"

Zim pours a little bit of water out of his canteen and scrubs his hands vigorously. It might be some time before he is able to stop worrying about being possibly poisoned, however.

For once it isn't me who has been poisoned Isiros silently thinks to himself. He stands guard as Zim tries to clean himself of whatever poison he may have been exposed to.

Abalyn knows ways that she could help those poisoned with Arsenic to recover, but it would take days to do so for this many affected individuals. Alternatively, a neutralize poison spell or some sort of paladin magic would need to be used.

Zim recognizes the joke, but wipes his hands against his pants anyway, just in case.
"These boggards do not seem impressed that we have destroyed other towers.. we will have to keep an eye on them if we intend to interfere with this one."

As the group begins descending into the pit, the tower starts to glow more brightly, and a ray of violet-colored light shoots out at Abalyn, as she decided to go first.

The voidworms swimming through the air around the pillar seem to take no notice of the attack on Abalyn.

Ash murmurs, "You know, I bet I could jump into that water. That'd be safe, right? Yeah..."
He looks at Isiros to see if he thinks it's not safe, and Isiros doesn't say anything, so Ash takes a running leap out towards the water.

Only once he's way out over the water, looking down in his dive, does he look to see what horrible death he's jumping into.
Technically, 1 action left, depending on how well I splat... I mean, I could've Perception-ed first, but this way is more fun.

As Ash hits the water, just before his head goes under, he sees some splashing over in another area of the pool... as if he may have just woken something up. He doesn't take any damage from the fall, though, as the water is about 8 feet deep where he lands.

Ash reflects on his life choices that lead to moments like this, but not for terribly long.
A burst of bubbles rise up to the top as he conjures a shield between himself and the things that are probably going to eat him.
Next round, assuming he isn't grappled or eaten, he can figure out which way to swim. Good plan!

The nearer of the two creatures lumbers toward Ash in the water, then tries to wrap him in its weird tentacle and bite him.
