"Right, right, I'm on my way," Korinne calls back, moving further along the boardwalk towards the boat, while Dragas sheds some light on the subject and Kradel decides to go ahead and take a shot at one of the lurking spiders...

"What the...did they find Lamm?" Gerry looks back to Sora looking for confirmation...

Viggo would be much happier if he could help Gerry rather than uselessly getting his boots covered in spider guts.

As Kradel fired his first shot at one of the drain spiders, Korinne was already picking her way carefully along the rickety boardwalk, moving closer to the Kraken's Folly.

Standing outside the small door in the southeast corner of the old fishery, Gerry hears the sounds of battle aboard the derelict vessel and hesitates, thinking about his options.

Viggo swaps places with Gerry, both men keenly aware of the creaking rotten planks of the underpier's boardwalk. The bard examines the door only about 2-1/2ft square. The strange size of the door would make it somewhat awkward for Medium creatures to pass through. (Move action for a Medium creature to pass, unless the creature succeeds at a DC20 Escape Artist check.)

The skilled bard makes opening the lock seem easy.

This isn't helping us track down Lamm but at least these spiders won't be a danger to anyone else later.

As a couple of the spiders come racing up on deck Korinne quickly moves up past Donkere and steps onto the rickety boat. Realizing that quarters are going to be rather tight to be using her bow, she stows it and reaches for the scimitar hanging at her side.

While he initially thinks nothing, he glances down and notices where the skin is immediately inflamed around one bite wound and he doesn't feel himself. Then, the webbing covers him, impeding him from trying to put the vermin in a disadvantageous position.

Enraged at being bitten and out of patience with the spiders, the barbarian emits a fierce roar as his anger consumes him. He drops his javelin, draws his morningstar and begins to swing wildly at the pair of pests on his legs, trying to squash them into oblivion.

Underpier of the Old Fishery

Standing at the small, closed door, Gerry hesitates, but when Viggo encourages the halfling to enter, Gerry opens the portal and peers inside.

The air in the large room is chilly and stinks of the river, thanks to a huge opening in the floor that drops away to the river shore three feet below. Several pilings emerge from the waters to support the roof eight feet above the floor, with mossy ropes slung between them. In two places, rusty manacles hang from the ropes over the water. Two five-foot-wide walkways cross the hole to the other side of the chamber, where a collection of old cabinets, lockboxes, and piles of clutter are strewn about. Chipped porcelain plates, a cracked goblet, badly rusted silverware, an old wooden shield with a crossbow bolt embedded in it, the odd dinged helm, and other “treasures” litter the floor of this side of the chamber. Three tables heaped with clutter stand amid this mess. In the southwest corner, a wooden door provides access to a walled-off section.

Gaedren Lamm—a twisted thieving snake, a plague on Korvosa’s forgotten children, and all-around despicable wretch—sits at one of his tables, sorting the previous day’s haul, painstakingly examining, appraising, and cataloging his loot.

An alligator lazes in the water below.

"Ah, Gobblegut, it appears our unwelcome guests have finally decided to introduce themselves properly," the jaundiced and bent corpse of a man says, his eyes yellowed and skin speckled from age. His left leg has a pronounced limp, as he stands and shuffles about. "Come, let's give them a welcome they deserve."

Gaedran Lamm points his masterwork hand crossbow at the alligator and fires a bolt at Gobblegut—the sudden pain drives the cantankerous alligator into a frenzy.

Sora gives Lamm the stink-eye again. From the old man's puckered sour face, she bets it's worked this time.

(Move action for a Medium creature to pass through the small, unlocked but closed door in the southeast corner of the old fishery's lower level, unless the creature succeeds at a DC20 Escape Artist check.)

Several planks of the boardwalk give way with a groan and a splintering crack. Donkere splashes into the water below. He bobs to the surface, spewing a mouthful of foul water and then his eyes grow the size of saucers. A jigsaw shark is heading straight for him. The ifrit paddles furiously, barely making it to shore before being eaten alive.

The ifrit heads for home, calling back over his shoulder, "Sorry, guys, I'm not ready for the adventurer's life just yet. Best of luck!"

Inside the Kraken's Folly, the tenacious red spider is as determined as ever to eliminate the threat to its lair. It bites Dragas a third time.

Korinne also swings her scimitar at the remaining spider even though Dragas seems to be killing it, both in a literal and figurative sense...

Or if Dragas' above attack is enough to take care of the spider, Korinne will instead take a second to make sure everyone is okay and then hustle back towards the direction the others went. Can those of us on the boat hear the fighting from elsewhere?

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

Inside the Kraken's Folly, a battered and bruised Dragas, entangled in the web, fights off the drain spider's venom and splatters the bug against the deck with his morningstar.

(An entangled creature can escape with a successful DC8 Escape Artist check or burst the web with a DC8 STR check. Both are standard actions. Attempts to burst a web by those caught in it take a –4 penalty. Korinne may use her standard action to make a STR check to burst the webs for Dragas, instead of the unnecessary attack.)

Satisfied the barbarian will live, Korinne steps out of the cabin and looks toward the old fishery. She sees the small door at the end of the underpier is open, and she hears the muffled sounds of a scuffle coming from inside the building.

Meanwhile, inside the old fishery, Gaedren Lamm rolls his eyes at his pet alligator, stifles a frustrated growl, and fires a bolt from his hand crossbow at Viggo. Disgusted at his lack of accuracy, he tosses the crossbow to the floor and draws a dagger from his belt.
Mwk hand crossbow; Damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d4 ⇒ 4

"Viggo, I know you! I always thought you’d make a good partner—what say you shiv these other fools for me? The pay’ll be more than fair." Lamm has grown too greedy to give up what is his.

"Gerry, I should have fed you to Gobblegut the moment you showed up snot-nosed on my stoop!" The cantankerous and stubborn old man stands, releasing an outflow of profanity and threats.

“You!" Lamm points at Sora, shouting. "How the hell did you find me?" he asks, angry but genuinely curious.

Gobblegut finally comes out of its fascinated stupor and, reminded of its pain from Lamm's earlier bolt, it thrashes about, churning the murky water in a frenzy. The alligator launches itself toward Sora, needing to vent its rage against someone, anyone. The reptile lunges up out of the water, jaws opening and slamming shut, but it crashes against the wooden floor and flops back into the water.

"Get your leathery face away from me," Sora balks. "Oh, I was talking about you, not the gator," she sneers at Lamm as she pushes past Viggo, taking out her light crossbow.

"Nevermind how I found you. You should probably be more concerned with how you might leave here in one piece, because by the looks of it, you're outnumbered. Aaaaaand we've got a couple more friends showing up real soon. Now you'll be the one blending rotten fish for whatever is left of your miserable life."

Round #3 Redo

With the threat of the spiders now ended, Korinne quickly turns her attention to trying to break Dragas out of the web he's stuck in.

Web Rip - Str (DC 8): 1d20 ⇒ 1

But somehow, these webs are super strong!

"Are these webs or are these actually rope!?"

Round #4

Able to faintly hear the sounds of something happening elsewhere, Korinne tries yet again to free Dragas from the webs...

Web Rip - Str (DC 8): 1d20 ⇒ 13

...and finally manages to do it!

"There we go! Now come on, I think something's happening back inside the fishery," she calls as she hurries back off of the boat and back onto the boardwalk.

Grand Lodge

Curse of the Crimson Throne | Loot

On her second try, Korinne manages to burst the webs entangling Dragas, then she heads for the old fishery, Kradel on her heels, before the dwarf overtakes her.

Inside the old fishery, Viggo calls upon his luck and stabs his longsword into the hated crime lord, triggering Sora's evil eye, which puts a hex on the old codger's ability to defend himself.

With his rapier, Gerry gets a taste of revenge against Lamm, too.

Sora draws her crossbow and moves behind Viggo and closer to Gaedren, ready to load a bolt and fire it into the object of her hatred.

(Move action for a Medium creature to pass through the small, unlocked but closed door in the southeast corner of the old fishery's lower level, unless the creature succeeds at a DC20 Escape Artist check.)

Dragas staggers, a combination of the drain spider's potent venom and the energy that his rage seemed to take from his angry and stubborn will. Trying to catch his breath, he sheathes his morningstar and then picks up his javelin where he dropped it and stows it away.

"Go on. I'll catch up in a moment," he says after Korrine and Kradel.

Dragas uses his move actions to stow his weaponry and has the Fatigued condition for six rounds.
