Moving discussion about the meta stuff over to the discussion thread: yeah, this is an example of how some stuff can be tough to handle in a PbP format. I chose my words very carefully and deliberately waited for awhile to post anything more to see what people wanted to do. I was trying to strike the right balance between the needs of the PbP format and the desire to not introduce metagaming into the play, but it's undeniably tricky.
Re what you need to do to actually kill this thing: you may find some hints back in the knowledge check that one of you did back at the very start of this fight.
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!

Well, since I'm dead I can't help, but wondering if maybe this line is what GM is referencing as the hint "Favored, if not by the gods, then by some primal intelligence of the mysterious world of the fey, the linnorm bestows a powerful curse on any who manage to slay it." Fey usually don't like cold iron . . .
Caduceus Via
|
That's what I was thinking. My back up blade is a masterwork Cold Iron long sword from my early levels. Just need to pull it out and shove it in...I hope.
| GM Abraham |
Hector, since Tytus is not available right now, would you like to bot him until he returns?
| GM Abraham |
Or, anyone who wants to, please take care of botting Tytus. For various reasons, I would prefer not to do it myself.

Can we take use the treasure to pay re-ignite the Flame of Liberty?
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!

So Hector has 19 Prestige - there was talk of two boons that might help reduce the cost of the raise dead? I believe he can only get 1 restoration for the negative levels at this point, so I should be able to cover both if there is some reduced cost. I have a boon [Personal Physician] which can get me a free restoration, but not until the end of the module.
| GM Abraham |
Can we take use the treasure to pay re-ignite the Flame of Liberty?
Yes. I'm fine with just taking the cost (Raise Dead + 2 Restorations for negative levels) off the chronicle gold at the end of the module. Just let me know how you want to do it (equally split amongst party members or all Hector or something in between). Also, you can use a combination of gold and prestige as you choose. Plus any relevant boons as mentioned by Hector above. If you all can sort that out and just tell me what to note on whose chronicle that would be great.
I believe that someone said they had the means to teleport Hector's body back to civilization?
In addition, Caduceus still has 4 Con drain to deal with.
If you all just let me know how you want to take care of these things and once it's all sorted I'll move us forward to the next part.
| GM Abraham |
I have a boon [Personal Physician] which can get me a free restoration, but not until the end of the module.
I'm not familiar with that boon but yes, if it can't be used until the end of the module then it won't help you now (unless you want to go around with a negative level for the rest of the mod...)

From the Season 6 Faction Card:
Spell casting serves for Raise Dead, Resurrection, True Resurrection are purchased with a savings of 25% less Prestige Points and/or 25% less gold. So, it will not help with the negative levels.
I have 41 PP. I believe Restoration cost 4PP, so I think I just need to spend that to clear the CON drain. Please advise if incorrect.
| GM Abraham |
Caduceus, the version of Restoration you need only costs 2 PP (the 4 PP version is to remove a permanent negative level).
Caduceus Via
|
Even better. I read 'drain' and thought it would need more than Lesser Resto.
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!
|
According to Restoration, I can only get rid of 1 negative level a week, so it would be good to get Greater Restoration cast for 16 PP. I don't think the Shadow Lodge boon that someone had will bring the cost of the raise dead down enough for me to cover it all, so since folks offered, if we could pay for the raise dead out of the loot and divide it up (5450 gp, so 5 ways that's 1090 apiece out of final gold on chronicle), then I could use my prestige for the greater resto (16 prestige) and be good as new!
| GM Abraham |
So, before we move forward, would someone mind summarizing the gold, prestige, and boons that are being used to get Hector and Caduceus back to form, and also whether the expenses are being shared by the whole party or paid individually? (This is all for my record keeping so I don't mess up the notes on your chronicles).
Thanks!
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!
|
My understanding was using loot to pay for the raise dead (1090 gp each) and then I'll use 16 Prestige for a Greater Restoration to get rid of the 2 negative levels. I'll let Cad speak for Cad.
So Anen with teleport Hector and Cad, Tytus and Heccan hang tight until we return, right? Should be safe in a linnorm cave.

Keeping in mind the 25% discount on the Raise Dead from my Faction Card.
Cad will spend his own PP on his Restoration.
| GM Abraham |
Sorry for the delay - home & work both been a little rough recently. Hope to have a post up tonight or tomorrow.
| GM Abraham |
Sorry for the long delay everyone. I should be ready to move us forward again.
First, to summarize the healing info for everyone's chronicle sheets:
* Caduceus spends 2 PP for a casting of Restoration to remove his ability drain. I'll note this on your chronicle sheet.
* Hector's Raise Dead would normally cost 5450 gp, but Caduceus' faction card boon gives a 25% discount, for a cost of 4087.5 gp. Divided by 5, this is 817.5 gp for each PC. I'll note this on your chronicle sheets.
* Hector spends 16 PP for a casting of Greater Restoration in order to remove the two permanent negative levels after Raise Dead. I'll note this on your chronicle sheet.
Correct? If I've made any mistakes someone please let me know. Although I try to run a challenging table, it's a long time since I actually killed anyone, so I had to review how it all works.
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!

That looks right to me. Thanks to all for chipping in on the raise dead.

Just a heads up that I'll be a spotty poster from the 15th-20th.
Hope everyone is doing ok.
| GM Abraham |
Thanks for the heads up. And my apologies to everyone for the slowdown. Real Life is a lot at the moment. Hope to have us chugging along again shortly.

No worries Abe, thanks for the update. I also hope everyone is doing well. I know I have been much better since the Flame of Liberty was once again set ablaze. Look forward to getting the game on soon.
| GM Abraham |
Sorry for the long delay everyone. I was having a bit of burn out. And some Real Life issues. But I've posted in gameplay and am ready to move us forward again. Thanks for your patience.

Just a note that I'm headed out of town tomorrow through the weekend. I'll try to continue to post, but it will likely be sporadic at best.
| GM Abraham |
Sorry for the delay everyone. All day divorce negotiations tomorrow and I've been too stressed about that to focus. I'm signed up for some GenCon games over the weekend, so I may not be able to post until after the weekend.

2020 is a real asshat of a year. Sorry to hear it GM Abraham.
My dad just entered hospice care, so I'm headed home in a few days to help my mom. Anyway, I might be rather sporadic, but will do my best to pop on and don't hesitate to bot if I'm slowing it down.
| GM Abraham |
Hey everyone, sorry again for the delay. Divorce negotiations were successful (thank the gods!) but we are still living together until she moves out which is stressful. I much appreciate your understanding.
I'm ready to move us forward again though there may unfortunately continue to be some intermittent delays due to real life stuff.
| GM Abraham |
Sorry to hear about your Dad, Hector. I hope the end is as gentle as possible. Sending you good thoughts.

So, a bit of explanation about the last encounter in case anyone is interested. It's an odd insertion in the module that has no connection to the rest of the story - when I played this face to face the GM didn't even bother including it. It's also such a low CR encounter (CR 6) that it didn't seem worth even bothering with setting up a battlemap. Basically what's going on is that the dryad has bewitched the satyr (not the other way around); he's so in love with her that he participates in her schemes, which are basically just attempting to bamboozle passerby to give her some magical treasure. It's an entertaining little bit but too underpowered to for a party of your level. Anyway, thought I would just explain this since otherwise it all seems rather out of place in relation to the rest of the module.

Well, it was a nice reprieve from the linnorm.
Hope everyone is doing well given what has been shared. 2020 is shaping up to be quite the poo-burger.

Ah, nice. I do like when there are those little vignettes that aren't necessarily connected to the main story.
And yeah, condolences to all, its been a rough one.

Holding up well. Gearing up for teacher week on Monday. We get to figure out how the school year is going to work.
How about you?
Hector, The Flame of Liberty!

School year starts this week for me and I am NOT prepared. Hope everyone is doing ok.
Caduceus, what do you teach?
Caduceus Via

Haven't seen the master schedule yet, but if it's like the last two years, Sophomore English and IB Literature for seniors.
How do you spend your school year?
| GM Abraham |
Hi y'all. Was hoping to get us started back up again this weekend but couldn't quite make it. I teach too and the shift to virtual is crazy. Had my first two class meetings last week and one other class tomorrow - need to finish the syllabus today.

I teach teachers - used to be a Jr. High English and Social Studies teacher, now I train them in a secondary ed certification program. Love my job, but hate teaching online.
