The glowing forms appear unimpressed by your words and do not move from in front of the portal to the desert. Your words ring hollow, though they come from a good heart. Even now we sense how weak you are, and one of your number has fallen. Have you stopped to think that maybe the scepter wants to be returned to the mortal world to continue its own aims and goals? Had you not slain the guardians to this place it would have lain here for all eternity.
We cannot endorse your efforts to bring such evil back into the world.
Leave it here or face our wrath.
The glowing forms flair with energy as the speaker finishes.

weed looks at the forms and speaks.....
how do we know you are powerful enough to keep the scepter out of the hands of evil....it is being searched for....you werent able to prevent us from taking it...and who are these guardians you speak of....were they trying to keep it here???
Mysterious Storyteller
The glowing forms do not detect as evil.
You slew the druid and his folk that protected the entrance to this place and are the first to enter this place by force since it was created long ago. The things you have faced here are a result of the influence of the scepter and the dark heart of the Dread Pharaoh and have nothing to do with us.
How do you know we are powerful enough to keep the scpeter out of the hands of evil? We have done so for over a thousand years, and you haven't taken it from us or this place...yet.
Sensing the violence in Turran's actions, the multiple glowing forms coalesce into one brightly shining form, that of what appears to be a holy warrior of Pharasma. In it's hands a massive falchion, and wearing a glowing coat of full plate.
Turran
-Never knew Mirror Image was considered a violent spell. Merely cautious, I'd say.-
Hm, well Dar, what do you say. This seems to fall closer to your realm. How's Erastil getting along with Pharasma these days. Our goal is to stop the Baron. We have 3 options, at least.
One, leave the sceptre with the glowing Pharasmites.
Two, have a friendly battle to see who's stronger.
Three, We know the Baron is coming here, we can wait and add our strength to battle him.
Four, something I haven't thought of...
Weed
i see your point Turran....Holy Warrior stay your defense....if we leave the scepter here....perhaps drawing the evil which seeks it...perhaps we can destroy it together and we all accomplish our goals...
Weed
tis a mixed blessing that it was us that slew the druid and his folk....for we are reasonable and do not wish to release great evil....this hellish place needs stronger safeguards....for the evil that seeks this scepter is more powerful than us....we do not posses the magic to counter its threat...
Dagor Nuin Giliath
Hmmm, I wonder what is happening in there.
Dardanius
Dardanius searches his soul for the right answer. He considers the teachings from his community.
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
I see the merits in waiting here for the "Baron." But we don't know when he will come; we could be waiting a while . . . or forever if he meets his righteous end in some other foul temple.
Dar glances at Turran, considers the trilemma, and then addresses the glowing form: Would you even agree to a friendly, nonlethal battle? If we best you, then we'd prove that the scepter may be safer in our hands.
I spent a good hour trying to think of an in-character way Dar could get Dagor's charactre involved. But I couldn't square that circle.

Ohhhh . . . well I sort of meant all of us against you, if you'd permit. I'm sure the Rakshasa wouldn't submit to a fair trial by combat. Otherwise, give us a moment to consider.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29
To his companions: Well, I don't think I'd fair the best against a falchion. What do you two think of this plan? Perhaps we nominate that knight outside the portal?
Turran
-Ooh, that's a sneaky way to get him in. Lets see what Mysterious says-
Dagor Nuin Giliath
Dagor enters, looks about and detects evil on all parties.
“It seems I’m a bit late to the gathering, would somebody be so kind as to fill me in on what is happening here?”
Dardanius
Dar gestures appropriately: Turran, Weed, and some servants of Pharasma. I'm Dardanius Vulso. We traveled here in order to prevent an evil item falling into the hands of a fiend who is coming for it. In removing the item, the servants of Pharasma believe we might unleash a different evil.
We've tried explaining that the Rakshasa who is coming is more powerful than us. Since we were able *ahem* break through the defenses, surely the fiend will too. So now the safest course of action must be to remove or destroy the staff. The argument has not convinced the servant, who seeks to prove the defenses are still strong enough by challenging us to single combat.
What do you make of that, sir knight?
Dagor Nuin Giliath
“Thank you Dardanius, I’m no knight, my name is Dagor Nuin Giliath. As to your question, I’m not certain I am qualified to provide an answer, but I will try. It seems everyone, including me, is agreed that this evil needs to be contained or destroyed, the only question is the best way to do so. Servant of Pharasma, what assurances do you give that you can keep this item safe? Do you know of the Rakshasa of which Dardanius speaks? Do you not know of some way to destroy this item? That seems the safest course given the situation.”
Dardanius
Weed
nevertheless Dagor...it seems as if fate has brought you here....come to speak of you happening upon us....what was it....or is it that you seek? how do you know of this place....and what is your purpose
Mysterious Storyteller
Servant of Pharasma-I know nothing of this Rakshasa that you speak of, but it doesn't sound much different from the hundreds of others seeking either power or fortune over the centuries. Until now, none had ever penetrated this place by force and certainly none had gotten this far in trying to remove the burden from our protection.
If we knew of a way to destroy the scepter we would have done so a millennia ago and saved ourselves ages of watchful care and guardianship.
As for assurances, all I can give you is that any trying to take the scepter from this place will have to vanquish us first, yourselves included. Even then, our curse will lie upon you until the scepter is returned or destroyed.
Turran
or until the scepter is returned or destroyed.
Dagor Nuin Giliath
"To answer your question Weed, I seek out evil to vanquish it. I can't really explain it but some instinct drew me to this spot."
"Servant of Pharasma, would you test your blade against mine to determine the strength of your claim to guard the scepter?"
Dardanius
I will declare Dagor as my champion in this trial as well. But I'll remind you, spirit, that the Rakshasa's companions aren't going to stand aside and alow you to fight them all one-by-one.
Turran
That's what I was thinking.

The Rakshasa and his minions would be much weakened by now, had they even gotten this far, if you found your way to not kill off so many of the guardians to this place. I offer to fight your champion alone as a testament to my honor and with faith that you have the same and hopefully some ability.
A curtain of whitish light descends in a ring around the Pharasmite and Dagor, isolating them from the rest of the party. Two deadly daggers appear in the glowing forms hands as he moves in to melee.
