Liberty's Edge

Hello!
If I may remain in a holding pattern for a little bit, to see what Tier we seem to be playing in, and the party composition.
I'd be happy going for a Playtest character.

Lantern Lodge

Silent tide map

I'm guessing we will be low tier.

Happy for a PT character, but you'll need to stay on top of the rules for me!

You are deeply connected to the world of corporate culture, and know all the movers and shakers. If the creature is immune to that energy type, this counteragent removes the immunity and instead gives it resistance 10. If the creature has resistance to that energy type, instead reduce its resistance by 10 (minimum 0). This is a poison effect
. Restorative: temporarily alter the acuity of a living creature’s vision, granting the subject the benefits of blindsense (vibration) with a range of 30 feet. If the creature already has blindsense, it instead gains the benefit of the Blind-Fight feat

This is a 3-6 scenario though... so you would need to use a pre-gen of the bio-hacker... unless there are special rules about roll-your-own at higher levels for playtesting?

N Female Yoski Biohacker 4 | SP 12/24 : HP 26/26 : RP 7/7 | EAC 18 : KAC 18 | Fort. +4 : Ref. +5 : Will +6 | Init +3 | Perc +12 | Speed 50 ft. | Purchase Pzifer!

Sorry, I knew it was 3-6, but then forgot when I started creating the character ((( duh

There are special rules for the playtest: you create your own pregen (at levels 1, 4, or 8) that has to be 1 class only (no multiclass), and with normal races only (none w. a boon).
But you can choose your race, theme, and build it "normally".
So I will simply use what I've done and level it up to 4

Quote:
4th Level: This character follows the same rules as above, except it can select one 4th level armor or weapon and one 3rd level armor or weapon. In addition, the player can spend up to 4,000 credits on other available equipment.

And I am allowed to apply the credit immediately to my character.

Two things to note:
• if I die, I get a big rebate to all the problems
Quote:
the cost to purchase a raise dead is reduced to 6 Fame and subsequent restorations to remove the negative levels are only 1 Fame each

• and I apply the following Credits to my sheet: 1,460 Cr.

Credit:
As we want to encourage extra play of the higher-level versions of these classes, we're also going to open up the rules for applying credit when playing a playtest character. A player using a non-1st-level playtest character may choose to apply the earned Chronicle sheet to an existing Organized Play character. To do so, simply replace the credits earned on the Chronicle sheet with credits from the list below that match the level range of the existing player character.

Leveled to 4 and updated my sheet, so should be ready.

Leveling up to 4, FYI:
+3 BAB
add +2 Fort +1 Ref +1 Will
adjusted HP etc., number of injections/day + duration

Spark of ingenuity 1/day,
If you are a studious biohacker, you can combine the effects of two injections into one, expending one use of your injection ability to create and deliver both injections at the same time. This takes no additional time and enables a creature to be under the effects of two different counteragents simultaneously. Both effects last for a number of rounds equal to your key ability score modifier.
weapon specialization
You gain the Weapon Specialization feat as a bonus feat for each weapon type this class grants you proficiency with. For weapons with which you have gained proficiency through the injection expert class feature (with the exception of basic melee weapons), you instead add half your character level to damage you deal with those weapons.
add 2 x Biohacker Theorems

adjusted: HP etc. ; number of injections/day + duration ; skill points

Field Dressing (Ex)
As a standard action, you can use your custom scanner to quickly render medical aid to an adjacent, willing creature. When you do, the target regains a number of Hit Points equal to your key ability score modifier. This number increases to 1d6 + your key ability score modifier at 4th level, and to 2d8 + your key ability score modifier at 8th level. If the target has taken no Hit Point damage, they instead regain 1d4 Stamina Points. This number increases to 1d6 Stamina Points at 4th level, and to 2d8 Stamina Points at 8th level. You must have your custom scanner in your possession to use this ability, and you can use it a number of times per day equal to your key ability score modifier.
Limber Restorative (Ex)*
Any restorative you successfully use on an ally allows that ally to move through difficult terrain as if it were normal terrain, in addition to the restorative effect you choose.

two feats (Fleet - Skill Synergy stealth & life science)
Free level 4: Defrex Hide
Free level 3: Medic Injector Pistol

-1400 Cr. Ability +2 (Int)
-2200 Cr. Longstrider Module
-90 Cr. Tactical Baton

I'll give everyone until Monday US time to respond and post, otherwise we'll go with a pre-gen NPC. Any preferences as to which one?

Operative 3
Techno 3
Biohacker 4 (I can do some HP [or less SP] healing)

so, I'd go for either more brutal:
• where I'd pick Altronus (Solarian) over Obozoya (Soldier) because a bit more skills

Or else more social (tricks/spells):

• Navasi (Envoy) or Keskodai (Mystic)

And last on the list I'd put my beloved:
• Quig (unless we need Engineering/Computers)

Lantern Lodge

I'd lean toward the social side probably.

Looks like Twik has some great social skills! I think we could freely take either Obo or Alt. Btw, do we not want to do a bit of general recruitment in Flaxseed Station for this one? Playing with only 3 people + a pregen seems like it might be challenging.

Lantern Lodge

2 people marked this as a favorite.
Silent tide map

Yeah, I'll do a flaxseed post as well, but wanted to give everyone who had done the initial sign-up a chance first.

Not sure how many takers there were, as I've tried to run it a couple of times in the past. This was one of the first 3+ scenarios, which caused problems. Then the author did a couple of PBP tables, which was great. Then a few more appeared during the game day.

This is the closest I've got to a viable table since it was available.

So, how does that +50% apply with the reduced damage? Is it:

    0.25*1.5 = 0.375

    or

    0.25+0.5 = 0.75?

Normally it'd definitely be the first option, but Pathfinder had some weird rules for multiplying things multiple times.
    ----

Also, this fight looks like its going to be really tough. Lynn's almost out of spells and none of the rest of the team does full damage... maybe if we can down Oshessa we can convince the rest to give up?

    Lantern Lodge

    Silent tide map

I'm assuming it is twice the damage that actually gets through. But as it is all multiplied anyway, it makes no difference whether you quarter and then double or double and then quarter. Except maybe for odd numbers. But eight is an easy case for this.

    Wayfinders

    Null Android Technomancer 6 | EAC 21 KAC 22 | HP 34/34 SP 35/35 RP 9/9 | F +2 R +4 W +4 (+2 vs. disease, poison, mind-aff., sleep, blind, dazz., rad.) | Resist Fire, Cold 5 | Init +7 | Perc +0 | Spells Avail:: L1(6/6);L2(6/6) | Status: --

So just doing a bit of math on the damage we're able to do vs. the usual HP of things in tier 3-4... and I'd say the numbers are stacked pretty neatly against us. One thing that could have helped but I don't think anyone said they took:

There was an underwater squad machine gun in the armory room in one of the cabinets. I think Mobius would be proficient in it. Since it's underwater typed, its piercing damage doesn't get reduced.

Also, as a tactical thought: The airlock doors are only 5ft wide and the morlamaws are 10x10ft. They have to squeeze to get in and only one of them can fit in an airlock at a time, while we can fit our whole group inside. They'd have a pretty tricky time chasing us.

    Lantern Lodge

    Silent tide map

Piercing missile fire is reduced, but not melee.

This is a big battle, but it is not a foregone conclusion by any means.

It probably does pay to remember that in SF the minions are often do only slightly less damage than the BBEG, but are often much easier to take down.

Not *quite* as bad as D&D 4th edition though.

    I can't do much damage.
I can try to debuff others if you wish.
Or help our group a bit and buff them.
    I can heal HP.
So, in the meantime, I'm just trying to soak up some attacks and damage, maybe do a couple points of damage.

Once this wraps up I'll be kicking off a run of 1-13 (tier 3-6). I still have a couple of seats free at that table. It will almost certainly run over the start of Outpost though, so if your character is committed to that already, this wouldn't be a good choice for you.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to win this. Lynn has one spell left and does 2 or less damage with any other attack. Needles and Conrad are basically in the same boat. Twik and Mobius are our hardest hitters, but don't do more than 4 or 5 damage on average due to the halving and quartering underwater. We *really* need to not be fighting here.

My only thought is piling into the airlock, hitting the airlock close button, and Lynn throwing up an illusion to discourage the morlamaws from stopping the airlock closing step. Then, if they follow after us, we at least are doing full damage on dry land. Any thoughts from the rest of you?

How to make your GM happy... not.
Dear GM Aerondor, are you up to date on the very precise SFS rules about smoke grenades being used underwater?
    Ha ha...
My question is, would Needles know if the "choking and coughing" effect would work on the Morlamaws?
They do not have any armor or environmental protections, correct?
But all the Starfinders have put them up, since we started going down in the sea, correct?
So, I will post my action and only ask for a retcon if you tell me I know for some strange reason that one of my group removed its armor seal ; or if you tell me Needles knows that smoke in water somehow blows up or whatever.

All your group will have their armour on - no worries there. And good call, I completely didn't think about the morlamaw's not having any.

Given his background as a biohacker, I'm thinking Needles would have a fair idea of science :-)

I'm a bit torn on this, between wanting to give you a break, and trying to think how this would work in reality and how that would translate into game terms.

On one extreme, you could argue that morlamaws don't breathe air underwater, so smoke wouldn't affect their breathing at all, and the water pressure being so much higher than normal air - would stop the smoke spreading anyway.

At the other extreme there would be the "just run it as normal and hand-wave the underwater aspect".

I don't suppose you paid the 10% higher amount to get underwater specific ones back at the start of the scenario? That would totally make it easy for me to go with "just run it as normal and hand-wave the underwater aspect".

Of course not... thought of my weapon, but not about the grenades!
Did not even think of it now.
Going to purchase that for next times! ))) Great idea.

To be honest, I have no idea of how smoke would work under water...

At least it would help people move out avoiding AoOs and such which helps (I think?) which I hope is worth the action

Yep, if we can! Looks like Needles has given us a good chance to do so too.

Twik has the following boon which seems relevant right now:

Faction’s Friend (Social Boon; Limited Use): By assisting various factions of the Starfinder Society, you have proven yourself as a dependable asset. By slotting this boon, if you would fail to earn Fame at the end of an adventure by failing to fulfill a success condition, you can check one of the boxes on this boon. Doing so reminds your current championed faction of your past exploits, and you still earn 1 Reputation (but no Fame) with that faction as if you had successfully fulfilled the condition. You can use this boon only if you would also gain at least 1 XP for completing the adventure.

No boons slotted, since I am Playtest thingie (I just get Fame/Rep for my Faction).

Wow... this turned out a little off key, for sure!
    But, well, was fun...

I must admit we did not prepare very well for underwater fighting!

I'm just hoping I didn't make that last fight worse than it is supposed to be. It's a real doozy, especially if you used up some resources earlier on those rays.

Okay Chronicles are now available. Those of you who have a boon to get a bonus point of reputation, I can change your chronicles if/when you confirm that.

Conrad, there are lots of blanks on yours as you didn't provide all the information.

As always, please let me know if there is something wrong or missing. I'm getting better at them, but still far from perfect.

Thank you all for playing. Sorry the ending didn't go quite according to script.

When you check your chronicles you'll notice I ended up giving you full credits. In hindsight after I realised the Kalo had died and the Secondary condition had failed, I thought reduced credits was just rubbing salt into the wound. And in the spirit of "defeated them, in a roundabout manner" I decided to give you full credits for them.
