Fey stays toward the back of the group. "Glad that worked." she keeps glancing over her shoulder to where the cheats were.

Finding the door unlocked and without trap, Zaarah opens it and peers into the room. Before her stands what appears to be a supply closet. On the far side, seems to be a hidden door.
Peaking around the corner, Cody spies three medium sized mechanical creatures currently marching around a large table. Each holds a halberd in hand. They don't seem to notice him.
The grand reception hall holds a table and eight ornate chairs. A small sideboard holds an empty decanter and a silver serving set. A wide fireplace in the east wall holds a thick bed of ashes, and a neat stack of firewood lies nearby. Two narrow doors stand to the northeast and southeast. Wide passageways lead out of this room to the northwest and southwest.
Starling the Swift
|
"Let's focus our efforts," Starling whispers to the others as Zaarah and Cody each movie in a different direction. "Let's check this empty room first before engaging those machines," she adds once she gets everyone's attention, then joins Zaarah looking into the B3 room. Once someone else moves into the room, Starling will do the same and search it for anything interesting, then examine the secret door.

| GM RePete |
These are Clockwork Soldiers.
They have contruct traits for immunities
Vulnerable to electricity
Special Abilities:
Efficient Winding (Ex): They can function for 2 days per HD each time its wound.
Latch (Ex): They have especially designed hands that easily graps and lock onto weapons and objects. A shoulder can attempt to disarm or grapple as a standard action without provoking an attack of opportunity, and it receives a +2 bonus on disarm checks. In addition, it receives a +2 bonus to CMD against attempts to disarm it.
Proficient (Ex): Proficient with all simple and martial weapons
Standby (Ex): A clockwork soldier can place itself on standby as a standard action. While on standby a clockwork soldier cannot move or take any actions. It remains aware of its surroundings but takes a -4 on Perception checks. Time spent on standby does not count against a soldier's winddown duration. A clockwork soldier can exit standby as a swift action - if it does so to initiate combat, it gains a +4 racial bonus on its initative check.
And with your high roll....1 more bit of information
They have DR 5/adamantine
Searching the store room, you find nothing magical and little of value. Seems this room holds mostly mundane items including casks of fresh water, spare furniture, and basic tools. There are also several large mirrors carefully packaged and covered.
Inspecting the secret door, Zaarah feels reasonably comfortable opening it...and upon doing so sees...
This room is lined with shelves containing a diverse array of odds and ends: racks of clothes, standing mannequins, jars with colored fluids, small boxes, and metal canisters. At the west end of the room is a narrow table supporting a waxy, human-sized figure. Above the waxy figure is a pegboard supporting what appear to be a dozen deflated heads.
I assume Zaarah would cast magic and search this one as well? You find as follows
Many mundane items one could use to improve a disguise litter this room. Things such as clothing, make-up, and wigs are in abundance. Some more peculiar items also catch her eye...a doppelganger corpse, a severed elven hand with an ornate wedding ring preserved in some kind of alchemical fluid, a face mask containing a series of bellows for breathing tainted air, and a dozen leather bags that...when inflated, seem to approximate the appearance of a human head.
Two sets of masterwork thieve's tools, four disguise kits, six containers of ink labeled 'Revidin's Expurgating Tonic', and a nondescript pouch containing some kind of dust. Finally, you spot a canister painted with clowns and dancing dogs...inside is some more dust.
Dust of Tracelessness
2 doses of Dust of Illusion
The rhythmic foot steps continue to slowly make their way around the table in the larger room.
Dusklord
|
Dusklord explains everything he knows about the clockwork guardians they may have to face, and especially points out the need to damage them with adamantine weapons, if possible.
He easily identifies the dusts they have found. was anything else magical?
spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
He listens to the rhythmic step. "I anticipate we will need to confront those guardians to find the Spider," he muses.
Zaarah Katsu

"My dear Dusklord, why do you think that we need to destroy those! Do you .... have anger issues? Well, I do too! We should exchange therapist experiences ... but later." she says with a sly smile.
She starts walking in the direction of the room with the tin men. Suddenly she starts charging to the green one and attacks.

Approaching the room with the clockwork soldiers, Dusklord and Fey each cast a spell. Preparing to discuss their tactical advantage, the new recruit sprints into the room and whacks the unsuspecting foe!

@E'li: Made a bigger picture of the foes so you could see what they look like better
Zaarah quickly casts a spell and swings at the opponent. Still off-guard, she manages to connect with both blows.
With the desire to slow reinforcements, Dusklord tosses out a slick spot on the floor as Cody and Panda move in. Both man and beast connect with varying results, chipping away at the metallic creature.
Two of the creatures move to engage these intruders and immediately fall on the slippery grease.
The remaining one turns toward Zaarah and swings it's blade...overconfident though, the creature fails to connect. Bringing it back to bear, it jabs the point deep into her side.

Cody and Fey's first attempts to bring down the second soldier fail to connect as E'li bounces two stones off the beast.
Starling's bolt bounces harmlessly away.
Spinning towards the next opponent, Zaarah lets loose a flurry of attacks. The sounds of blade slamming into metal echos throughout the chamber as she chips away gears, metal, and wires with each hit.
Two shimmering bolts of force explode for the necromancer and slam into the creature, shaking loose even more metalic parts.
The foe turns towards Zaarah, having decided who the biggest threat was...just as Cody and Panda unleash an assault it could never have predicted. The duo proceed to pound the beast flat!
The final clockwork struggles to its feet again and takes a step towards the pathfinders. Raising its weapon high...it slips and falls again...but manages to keep it's footing.

Jabbing at the creature, Fey merely scraps it's side as E'li manages to hit it once.
Starling misses, but Zaarah steps forth and plants a pair of severe blows on the creature! Some strange grinding noises begin to come from within the beast.
Another pair of magical bolts slam against it and...it crumbles to the ground. Each clockwork soldier has a single Halberd of superb quality.

You notice a partially burned Missive in the fire pit.
DC 12 Dex or 15 Sleight of Hand to carefully remove the missive - or something else reasonable
The letter is from Trade Prince Aaqir al’Hakam and implies connections between the Spider and al’Hakam’s family.
You recognize one of the logs in the firepit appears hollow. Pulling it out, you find 2 potions within wrapped in wax paper bearing the cryptic message " Shandon: Sometimes a fly can avoid a spider’s snares because he can fly. Be careful. –Dorvik.”
Spellcraft & Detect Magic or Perception DC 17
2 potions of Levitate
+1 Halberds (3 of them)
==Once you are to move on==
You regroup and make your way onward through the chambers..stumbling into what appears to be the last room. It's is similar in size to the one you just fought in. The east wall of this wide room is interrupted by a projection containing a carving of a spider about two feet in diameter. Directly across from the spider, a section of the wall sits slightly askew, as though a door-sized piece of the wall were not quite flush with the rest.
What do you do?
