I don't see why you couldn't, and no i don't believe blasting the swarm deals party members damage as it's not a AOE, it's just a target.

The half elf will fire a blast of water at the swarm attacking his group
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 rta

Lorq's blast sends many tiny crabs flying! They are apparently quite upset by this.
Sarm Biting: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Lorq: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Lorq continues to dodge tiny crabs as Yvonne leaps overboard, the airbubble allowing her to breathe, but the tiny crabs dragging her back and the rough waters means she makes no headway than leaving the boat...
and she almost wishes she hadn't, as the rough waters drive her under and she sees the massive crab like THING under the boat! It looks like a ogre and a Crab had a very ugly baby!

"HOLY SEVEN HELLS!" Curses Mort as all Hell breaks loose on 'his' vessel.
"Drive off those crabs as quick as we can before this thing sinks!" Mort shifts towards the back of the boat, as far as he can to get away from Ivan's infestation. He drags out a vial of acid and chucks it into the crab swarm, not giving two s~~#s about the splash damage on the rest of the group.
Acid, RTA vs Ivan's Pubic Lice, +1 splash: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 201d6 ⇒ 3

CMB to get unentangled: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
if I can dive over board without the CMB check I'd prefer to do that, then load a dry load cartridge in the pistol once I'm in the water. If the CMB check is needed, and I succeeded, I'll just escape and jump over.
Nerrot Ergaval
Can Nerrot target people with the water lung hex from here? It's extreemly vague on the range. Failing that what action would it be to unscrew the leg?
Just a signal boost for these questions, cause they might have been missed. Though if everyone keeps fleeing like this I can probably put a lightning cloud on the crabbies.
GM_Starson
I thought I said I thought you could have enough range, my bad. Also, you could strength check to pull the leg off, or disable device.
Nerrot Ergaval
Nerrot stares down at the crabs below and decides that maybe he should help them. "Anyb'dy dyin'? Nah? Good! 'ere just be careful o' t'is will ya!"
He then starts an arcane chant and points at the open spot on the boat calling a giant roiling lightening cloud into existence where Yvonne was standing.
Agressive Thundercloud, DC 17 Reflex to negate, electric damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) = 10
GM_Starson
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
The little crabs scatter at the incoming thundercloud, dodging the sparks and bouncing around.
Botting Chef
Realizing that his blades won't do much against the tiny crabs, Chef moves into the back of the boat and try and get some distance.
Underneath the ship, the great crab thing, apparently hell bent on being a pain, reaches up to try and snap at the people in the boat...
CLAW!: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
well, there was a boat. The boat fragments into pieces, dumping those still in it into the water alongside both the snapping tiny crabs and the very angry, very large momma crab thing.
Swim checks of 20 needed. Failed means you are off balance and cannot swim! Fail by 5 or more and begin to sink!

CMB can remove entangled, but you failed... and rather than jumping overboard, the whole boat exploded underneath you. You also needed a fort roll to not be nauseated, but i'll skip that for now and chalk it up to GM inattention since life is already kinda awful for you.
GM_Starson
Don't forget your swim check Lorq, I don't believe you have a swim speed.
Lorq swirls the waters beneath him and launches a blast at the remaining crabs, blowing them away into the water and dispersing the swarm.

Mort stands on the boat, broken in half, his legs starting to split beneath him. He tucks his bow back onto his back before diving into the water and getting thoroughly tangled in flotsam for his troubles. "Ugh, I think I just swallowed a crab... GAG."

Move to stow weapon, move to fail at swimming.
Ivan the Artillerist
Swim check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
does making the swim check take an action? and if it does can I still spend a move action to load a dry load cartridge into the pistol?
GM_Starson
Sorry it's been crazy guys. I should be more back together now. You take your move action, and if your swim check succeeds, you move, if you fail it, you flounder, or if you fail it by more than 5, you sink. So yes Ivan, you can still use your standard as another move action to load the cartridge. Also, I got the swim check wrong, it's 15. Everyone but mort still fails, but hey mort you get a move!
The crab thing turns on chef and attacks him.

Ivan tries to stay afloat,
swim: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
but continues to sink. Seeing his Trusty chef in the claws of the giant crab Ivan aims his pistol and fires, while holding his breath.
Dry load shot: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 261d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
A firearm loaded with this ammunition still takes the –2 penalty on attack rolls when fired underwater for every 5 feet of water the bullet passes through, in addition to the normal penalties to range. When firing a dry load cartridge underwater or in an airless environment, a misfire that results in a firearm explosion occurs normally.
as long as we are within 20 ft of it it should still attack touch so hopefully I hit it!
Mort Gloomhallow
This isn't the first time Mort has been forced to swim in his armor and save people, and it doesn't seem like it'll be the last either in his new line of work. "Let's go Mindy, crab cakes are on the menu!"
+1 Adamantine Sawback Greatsword, Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 - 2 = 122d6 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 + 6 = 25
Not sure if we're needing to make swim checks every round? Does this count as underwater combat for the purposes of attack modifiers?
Seems like while Mindy is full of piss and vinegar, Mort's aim is a bit off.
Swim if needed: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
GM_Starson
The crab is underwater, so yes. And you need to make a swim check to stay above water and not sink since you can't take a 10. Creatures flailing about in the water (usually because they failed their Swim checks) have a hard time fighting effectively. An off-balance creature loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and opponents gain a +2 bonus on attacks against it.
Chef pries the crab claw open and slips free!
Ivan fires the bullet underwater, and thankfully is close enough that not to much power is robbed from the bullet.

We're still in rounds because some of you can't swim! Though you can now take 10 on swim if it gets you higher than 15 to not sink, without a boat your gonna need to address things, and fast!
Mort Gloomhallow
Mort will take 10 on swimming from here on out for a 20.
As soon as the crab stops moving Mort grabs a hold of Chef to make sure he isn't pulled down with it, giving his arm a good yank and kicking his own feet to get their heads above water. "Hold on to that claw, good looking meat there for cakes right?"
Mort looks around for the others in the chaos as he sheathes Mindy. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

"Yvonne, heal Chef already. He's bleeding like a carved pig out here and we don't want all his well seasoned blood attracting sharks or more of those crabs." Mort stops helping him swim and just lugs the crab claw along, keeping an eye on Squirt Gun who for his over the top love of water sure is a piss poor swimmer.
Nerrot Ergaval
Nerrot having gotten lost in laughter over the positively terrible swimming he'd witnessed wipes the tears from his eyes and re orients himself with the surface of the water. "Dat's it! Ya guys are gettin' swimmin' lessons afta dis! Geeze, Lorq, w'at were ya doin'? Immitatin' a rock?"
Nerrot turns to the leg and gives it a good tug.
Str check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
GM_Starson
The leg comes off with a rather... unfortunate sound. But, it is retrieved.
I'll just assume you guys head back to the boat.
The captain reaches out and takes the leg before fiddling with the side for a bit. After a few minutes she opens a hidden compartment in the peg leg. She then tilts out a horn made of what can easily be identifed as a Dire ram horn. The captain whistles and calls out....
THEY DID IT BOYS! LET'S GET THE WIND AT OUR BACKS AND GET AWAY FROM THIS BLASTED PLACE!
As the crew hauls the huge crab beast up, she whistles.
Looks like we be eaten well tonight!
Cobb the cook looks at the thing with a frown and sighs.
More bloody crab... fish and crab, always food from the sea.
She slaps him on the back.
Quit y our bellyaching! I expect a feast! Let's go!
Mort Gloomhallow
Mort climbs up the side of the ship and grunts once he reaches the top "I think next time we're gonna need a bigger boat. That little dingy didn't stand a chance against Mr Crabs over there."
He starts heading below deck before stopping "Hey, anyone got a beer or two? I need to be strippin' down and have a drink. I'm soaked."
He gives the Captain a wink Bluff: Pass Secret Message: Interested?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 He's apparently recovered from his 'over exertion with the siren.

Yvonne changes into dry clothes then walks on dec, unlimbers her crossbow and takes a place on watch.

Nerrot Ergaval
Able to move twice as fast as everyone else, Nerrot quickly flies back to the ship and hands off the leg to the captain, before lounging on the bulkward waiting for everyone else to catch up. He gives them a wave as they get closer. "OI, dere ya slow pokes are! I dought ya mighta drown'd dere far a sec! 'Ere let me 'elp ya up." He then tosses a rope ladder over the side and helps haul people up laughing at how sopping wet they are.
"Lorq, ya look like a drown'd rat! ye best get dried off dere!" Nerrot gives Mort a smile at the offer of a drink. "Ooooh dat's music ta my ears! Let's get pissed and dine on crab!"
