GM: I am thinking through my next action as best as I can. I have two questions for you.
Did the Dinosaur creature use an AoO on Izabela?
Did I need to roll a successful Know Nature to use bane on the creature next round?

GM Picatrix |

@Edmund, you did not see it use an AOO against Izabella (that damn 15' whip reach!). And bane would necessitate correctly identifying/stating the creature type. Perhaps you could yell to your allies, "does anyone know what type of beast this is?!"

Assume that Enora always SHARES the information she had on the opponents AT LEAST Type/Subtype

![]() |

Edmund, if you can wait until I can post again in ~8 hours, I'm thinking to use Glitterdust on the summoned monster so you can move out of its threatened range more safely. And can anybody deal with the flying caster gracefully? He's likely to resist all Kije's fun spells.

![]() |

That will be really easy. Edmund is the last one to go before the Dino, so I'll just stick strictly to my initiative order. My other choice is to move Kissan first, draw the AoO (hope she survives, which is a straight coin flip), and then move Edmund. Not ideal- and I hate killing off an AC (the RP would be heart wrenching)
If I can get to a place where I can use ranged attacks, flying creatures aren't much of an issue for me. Damage output can be pretty good for a level 5 (30+/round), but not on the caliber of Tiki (holy crap!!!!).
I super appreciate Izabela attempting to save Edmund. If he does survive, she has an IC apology coming her way! I was hoping that the lava/fissures would offer Edmund a measure of safety, which they obviously didn't.
If only one (or both) of those arrows had landed- Edmund may not even be in this situation. Such are the dice.

GM, what is the Paladin we identified earlier actually doing? Just observing?

![]() |

Edmund, don't forget about the Will saves for you and Kissan. And isn't it Knowledge (local) to identify a humanoid?

![]() |

Going to post something Picatrix said in another PBP I’m in that he’s GMing so that you all have a bit of context:
Hey all, I have been much busier than usual at work the past couple days getting ready for a big trade show. Like, a ton of work got dropped on me that I was not expecting. Lots of overtime. Normally I can get to my PbP games during the workday but not as much this week. And besides that, I’ve been prepping scenarios for a local PFS con that takes place all day Friday and Saturday. So I apologize that I haven’t been able to advance the game. I will get things moving again by Sunday. Thank you for your patience!
Sorry for the wait, guys!

Enora - Iconic character |

Don’t worry at all GM! ;-) RL always first!

![]() |

Rose, remember that you have an extra attack from haste. And once you've successfully made the Will save, you don't have to make it again.

Enora - Iconic character |

That you really fall when you are dazed was news to me too. Just recently learned that in another scenario from one of the players. That is not really logical from my point of view to be honest.

Enora - Iconic character |

GM, what is the Paladin we identified earlier actually doing? Just observing?
Sorry but I am still confused what happened to the Paladin. What did I miss?

That was the now-unconscious archer whose bow is smashed. Just for everyone's clarity: A botched Diplomacy roll (written into the scenario) caused the Paladin/cultists to become hostile.

GM Picatrix |

Busy workday and I have PF2 playtest group tonight; probably won't advance the game until I get home around 10:30 PM MST

Don’t worry at all GM! :-)

Well, I'll catch all you guys next week when my 40 rounds of paralysis have worn off!
Sorry for not contributing at all to this adventure and thanks for dragging along my dead weight! :)

Enora - Iconic character |

It is great to have you with us! Otherwise we would never have seen Izabela kissing someone! ;-)

Enora - Iconic character |

Hello GM, I just wanted to confirm that you also received the information that we need to report the game before Nov 19 although we can of course continue the game after this date?

Enora - Iconic character |

Great!

GM Picatrix |

We're nearing the end of gameday proper, so please roll for your boons. A 19 or 20 wins. If you do win, please roll a d4 as well.
I'm going to get the game reported soon as requested. We can still finish the scenario, of course.

It doesn't seem like there was anything that we could have done- short of hitting the DC 46 perception check. 100 points in a round is pretty crazy damage output- even at tier 8-9. I have never played a level 9 character who could have survived that round of attacks.
I am sorry Tiki :/

Enora - Iconic character |

Wow! Just wow ... :-(

Character deaths are something I don't take lightly as a GM. Here's the stat block for the mimic, including tactics. If you see anything I overlooked that would have changed how things played out, I'm open to retconning. Since we are still in (a very dangerous) combat, please use it to check my work but try not to act in-game on metagame knowledge (although your knowledge checks told you most of the important things to know about this creature).
Note that the 4-player adjustment means it is sickened (which I've noted during its actions)

TACTICS
Before Combat When it hears the PCs approaching, the mimic casts air walk and then stands perfectly still.
During Combat The mimic casts blasphemy on the PCs then attacks them in melee, using its smite good on the first PC it attacks. It uses its other spell-like abilities, such as darkness, if too many PCs succeed on their saving throws against blasphemy. It ignores paralyzed targets as long as any PCs are still standing.
Morale The demonic mimic fights to the death.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Adhesive (Ex) A mimic exudes a thick slime that acts as a powerful adhesive, holding fast any creatures or items that touch it. An adhesive-covered mimic automatically grapples any creature it hits with its slam attack. Opponents so grappled cannot get free while the mimic is alive without removing the adhesive first. A weapon that strikes an adhesive coated mimic is stuck fast unless the wielder succeeds on a DC 26 Reflex save. A successful DC 26 Strength check is needed to pry off a stuck weapon. Strong alcohol or universal solvent dissolves the adhesive, but the mimic can still grapple normally. A mimic can dissolve its adhesive at will, and the substance breaks down 5 rounds after the creature dies. The save DC is Strength-based.
Mimic Object (Ex) A mimic can assume the general shape of any Large object, such as a massive chest, a stout bed, or a big door. The creature cannot substantially alter its size, though. A mimic’s body is hard and has a rough texture, no matter what appearance it might present. A mimic gains a +20 racial bonus on Disguise checks when imitating an object in this manner. Disguise is always a class skill for a mimic.
Smite Good (Su) Once per day, as a swift action, the demonic mimic can smite good as the smite evil ability of a paladin of the same level as its Hit Dice, except affecting a good target. The smite persists until the target is dead or the mimic rests.

Enora - Iconic character |

Oh GM, it is really not your fault and definitely your responsibility to play by the rules ... and you are considerate to post this which shows that you also care like all of us!
It is just that the dice are sometimes really cruel! And the designers too! :-(

![]() |

Just try not to think too much about how such a creature came to exist.

![]() |

@Tiki: Succubi will do it with anything. 'Nuff said.
In all seriousness, though, I honestly can't find any way that the creature could have been played more by-the-book. Sorry, Tiki...

![]() |

GM- I am sorry, I didn't mean for my post to come across as if I was questioning your application of the monster/scenario. I killed my wife's -01 character a couple months ago (things I don't recommend doing...) on a similar circumstance. She was level 5 and didn't have enough PP or resources to do anything about it.
It is certainly my least favorite part of GMing.

![]() |

So, Kije's feeling a bit guilty about Tiki's death since he was the one who suggested Tiki touch the door. I'm willing to donate the extra gp Kije would normally get from playing Out-of-Tier to help pay for spellcasting services. After consulting previous chronicle sheets, it looks like that would be ~$1400 - would that make a difference?

![]() |

For reference: the cost of a restoration spell (which would be needed if Tiki chose the "raise dead" option) is 1280 gp. He would need two of those to erase the negative levels.

![]() |

Tiki's current resources are 28 prestige and 4413 gp.
You can only benefit from one restoration spell per week when removing a permanent negative level, so I would be stuck with one negative level until the adventure was over.
So the options from most prestige to least are.
20 prestige, 0 gold
16 prestige, 0 gold (keep both negative levels)
16 prestige, 1280 gold
12 prestige, 2450 gold
8 prestige, 2450 gold (keep both negative levels)
4 prestige, 5450 gold
0 prestige, 5450 gold (keep both negative levels)
0 prestige, 7730 gold
The final three options would definitely require the party to contribute gold or me to sell gear.
If paying for it on my own I would chose the 12 prestige, 2450 gold option.

![]() |

Also, while we are back getting raised, I'd like to purchase some additional weapons.
I'd like a small masterwork lance and a small masterwork earth breaker, a small sling and some bullets (total 651 gp).
It was pointed out to me recently that I was not reading the change size ability of vanara correctly and that my weapons would not automatically resize. So I need a set of small weapons for those times when I am in tight quarters.

![]() |

Edmund has 950 GP that he could contribute immediately, otherwise he can contribute 1400 GP at the close of the scenario.
Tiki- just make sure to tell the GM how much of that you want to take from my chronicle sheet.

Enora - Iconic character |

Enora is a pregen so I can contribute the gold she has available.
247 gp

![]() |

There is definitely something wonky going on when I roll save for both Tiki and Kiti one after the other.
This is twice in a row I've gotten the same d20 roll.
That normally wouldn't make me suspicious but what does is the fact that I posted for Tiki first then Kiti, but when I view the posts now it shows the opposite order.
I guess from now on I will have to roll both in the same post.

![]() |

Very interesting. I don't seem to have a problem when I do Edmund and Kissan back to back.

![]() |

Okay, ideas for keeping people alive in this lovely place:
- Can you use detect magic? Have that up all the time while exploring.
- Perception checks everywhere. Maybe slow enough for Take 20, but certainly slow enough for Take 10.
- Can we disable magical traps? Or do we need to rely on Enora's Dispel Magic?
Anybody else have ideas? I'm all ears.

![]() |

So the trigger is in the same exact place as the Blade Barrier?

GM Picatrix |

OK, the blade barrier extends beyond the range of the trigger. But:
You must name the specific spell effect to be targeted in this way.
So Izabela needs to identify Blade Barrier to dispel it. Otherwise, it's gonna dispel a random spell in the area.

![]() |

I'm fine with that, but I targeted the general area around us, so if there were another spell effect in place, then it would also need to also be in that area (like in the unlikely circumstance that there were also a Fog Cloud)

![]() |

Tiki tries to open the door next to him.

![]() |

Kije is ready to proceed. He's quite happy to be in the back, and the [i]blade barrier[/b] has only reaffirmed his desire to never be the first person into a place.

![]() |

Just gonna let you guys know about something Picatrix said about today in another PbP he's running for me:
I'm leaving for a long-ish hike in a few and I won't update...until I'm back.
