nice perception rolls .
The ravine is about 20' wide. The sides are not quite vertical. It runs fairly straight. A stream runs through it kind of in the middle. Sparse trees, some rocks.
The party is moving uphill towards the north. Sides of the ravine are on the east and west.

Not even gonna try to beat 40 perception.
Elmora has her bow ready, with a normal arrow nocked.
Elmora is scanning the edges of the ravine1d20+3=9, 1d20+3=20, 1d20+3=22

Whut's that in the bottum o'me mug?

In a ravine, I'm on the alert, though I look like a wizard right now, my armor glamered into robes and my hat of disguise making me look like a frail gnome.

From ahead of the group comes a great roar. In the back of the group Sleepy sees a large leonine form slink unto the path about 100' behind him. A handful of other large catlike forms slink in the shadows and shade to the right. The druid spots movement at the top of the ravine on the left about 120' ahead just before a huge winged catlike creature catapults itself over the edge and soars toward you.
Initiative please.
Strangler McGee
"Look out, ye bastarrrds! There's a dam' big kitty comin' our way!" Strangler growls in his gravelly elemental voice.
1d20+2=21 init
I think that's wasted my allotment of decent rolls for the day...

1d20+4=19 I put the wrong number in IC, fixed it here. If you want the cleric in instead of Elmora, we can swap, I don't want to hog the playtest.

Sorry I'm a bit late...
Tialla would likely be on point, I would think...
Perception (1d20+11=27, 1d20+11=14, 1d20+11=21) (In case it matters for surprise rounds and the like.)

Really. I'm paying attention. I tried to get encounter stats up on my alias, and had to do it 3 times. Arrgh, Fumble thumbs.
Anyway, given your comments, I'll take the marching order as :
From North to south:
Tialla
Strangler
Elmora
Grumbley (Intoxicating background by the way)
Blackie
Sleepy
You guys really need another dwarf.
Initiative:
Tialla 27
Strangler 21
Elmora 19
Grumbley 15
Blackie 14 rolled for you and the percept rolls too
Sleepy 12
Evil beasts 11-9
Too funny, I just noticed your intiative order is the same as marching order.
The following can act in the surprise round:
Tialla
Strangler
Grumbley
Blackie
Surprise rounders fire away. I'll try to work up something like a map. You've got the flying lion, the bigtrailing lion, and several side lions for targets. Range to flying and trailing lion as given above. Side lions 30'.
I'll try to work up a map. Mine tend to be primitive. Any suggestions in this line appreciated.

"Incoming," Tialla mutters to herself as the soaring shape moves in.
Quick Draw the sling, ready an action to attack the flying shape when it gets within 30 feet, if doing so will allow her a sneak attack. Otherwise she wants to dive into the bushes for Stealth purposes.
Tialla, it will be able to see you as it soars in, I don't think sneak attack would be appropriate. I'll assume you're hiding and moving left away from the lions on the right.
Grumbley, no lions close to striking distance with you in the surprise round. You are ready and may keep that (and the rolls) as your next round action or not.
Tialla Cloudstep

I was more thinking about whether it would still be flat-footed, since it lost init, but I was pretty sure it wouldn't be. Guess I should have taken the talent that makes everyone flat-footed during surprise rounds after all...
Tialla dives left into a clutch of foliage, readying her sling as she goes.

Strangler casts an (octopus) eye on the big cats, seeing if he can identify any of them.

Surprise round:
Tialla ambushing.
Grumbley ready strike
Strangler wildshapes to octopus. Begs the question how long can you hold that form in the air before you have trouble breathing?
Blacky: buffs.
Big lion at rear closes to 60'.
Flying lion closes to 100'
Strangler, the lions are pretty big. The big one behind the party is dire size. The flying lion is would probably qualify if it weren't a lammasu, or manticore.
You guys have the top of round 1 initiative.
Post away. Sleepy has posted round 1 action ready FoB. What's an FoB?

Strangler wildshapes to octopus. Begs the question how long can you hold that form in the air before you have trouble breathing?
Pathfinder rules only say that "If the form grants a swim or burrow speed, you maintain the ability to breathe if you are swimming or burrowing". It doesn't say anything about losing the ability to breathe air... If you have a complaint, take it up with Jason. :)

Flurry of Bozos, I think.
Strangler delays until one of the opponents comes into range, trusting that his 20' tentacles will ensnare any enemy that comes too close.

therealthom wrote:Post away. Sleepy has posted round 1 action ready FoB. What's an FoB?Flurry of Bozos, I think.
Flurry of Balloons ... the idea is to obscure their vision and then hit from the side.
Seriously, Flurry of Blows. He should be at +8/+8/+3/+8 (normal flurry of blows plus one from spending a ki point.) and 2d6+2 damage.
Attack 1: (d20) + 8 = 25, 2d6+2 = 9
Attack 2: (d20) + 8 = 16, 2d6+2 = 6
Attack 3: (d20) + 3 = 5, 2d6+2 = 9
Attack 4: (d20) + 8 = 16, 2d6+2 = 8
Black-Eyed Bartimus
Blackie will designate the first one in melee range as his dodge target, draw his rapier, snap off a flourishy salute and ready an action to attack the first enemy to get close enough!
Attack: 1d20+14=33, 1d6+7+1d6=15 2 pts of that is electrical

Eh, eh? Nice!
"By Cayden Cailean, ye durn'd beasts better watch yer hides, lest I make 'em into a throw rug, ye hear?!?"
Tialla Cloudstep
PFRPG doesn't require you to declare a Dodge target, just to declare that you are dodging.
Tialla readies an action to hit the incoming flyer with a sling bullet when it gets within 30 ft.
Sling attack (1d20+14=16, damage 1d3+1=2, sneak attack 5d6=12)
Glad I got those out of the way now, I guess.

Full attack against one of the lions (note that the full attack stops once he makes a successful grapple check + constrict):

I'm a bit suspicious about those results from the dice roller -- there are 4 natural 20s in there!

On Elmora's turn, she snaps off 3 shots at the flyer.

So strangler, are you using the octopus loophole to see how powerful a druid you can make? Do you really have 16 attacks? or is that 8 attack and 8 grapples? I'm confused.
The rolls are 8 tentalce attacks (+ damage) and 8 grapple checks for Improved Grab (+ possible constrict damage).
My goal right now is to see if I can make grappling is worthwhile; the octopus just gives me the best chance of starting a grapple!

Tialla Cloudstep wrote:Only the beast shape mods. The polymorph subschool description is pretty clear on that point. That's what I'm talking about, shouldn't they both be polymorph? Or is Wild Shape a different beast entirely?
Your stats change according to the spell effect (which wild shape duplicates) but not in any other way - you get no other stat boosts or penalties for size changes. You do still get the attack/AC/Stealth penalties for getting bigger, of course, or bonuses for being smaller, but that's it.

Flurry of Blows, Of Course! Duuh!
Neither do the Pathfinder rules as written grant you the ability to breath under water, but you would no doubt feel ill-used were you to drown in octopus form. ;p
The octopus is big there will be a significant time lag (at least 5 rounds) before lack of breath affects him. Where are the drowning rules? I skimmed my rules last night but couldn't find them.
I think this is a good, but time limited, use of wild shape and besides I want to try some grappling.
With regard to rolling. Use your own dice. Use an on-line roller. I don't care. I think we're all here in the interests of playtest. Therefore we won't be cheating.
Also, the discussion has been really good. But let's either make a discussion thread.. I personally would rather not have to sift through all the discussion to find the actions.

All landbound Lions AC 15
FLying Lion AC 16.
Tialla 1 lion goes for you. Your readied attack hits.
Strangler 2 lions go for you. We'll resolve it in a separate post.
Elmora 1 lion chagres you. You deliver 14 hp to the flyer.
Grumbley 2 lions. You severely wound one lion as it attacks.
Blackie, temporarily without melee opponent. You can reach and help Grumbley. One wounded lion dies.
Sleepy, the big lion charges you. You score 3 hits as the lion charges you.
Lions attack on you upcoming in new post.
thereal thom
Lions charge from sides.
Sleepy and the big boy. Sleepy takes 19 hp on a claw and a bite, and a rake. The lion will try to drag you down. (Grapple)
Elmora, manticore launches a bunch of spikes at you. All miss. Your lion delivers 15 hp on a claw and a bite and a rake. Lion will Grapple.
Strangler, takes 19 on two claws and 2 rakes. The lions want to grapple.
Tialla and Grumble Grog both avoid damage, but are engaged.
I need to get to work. It was busy yesterday. Will be again. I'll post tonight. If someone wants to start on the grapples, cool.
Strangler McGee
Strangler, takes 19 on two claws and 2 rakes. The lions want to grapple.
Lions can only start a grapple with a bite, not with a claw or rake. I think Strangler will actually hold off on grappling for now -- it doesn't make much sense to grapple unless the PCs outnumber the enemies. So ignore all of those grapple check + constrict damage rolls for now.
Confirming critical threats + extra critical damage:

Free action, drop sling; free action (Quick Draw), draw shortswords; full attack on the lion.
