At seeing the fly bite into the large chakat, D'hara winces beneath her veiled mask. She shuffles to her right in the hopes of surrounding the fly. They need to steal the pests' advantage and pin them in. Her chain twirls around and swings hard into the fly, ripping off bits of demonic flesh as it connects! Torn apart by the iron will of D'hara and her perfectly forged chain, the fly explodes in a shower of green fluid and chitin!

Ezechias dodges the sting and steps sideways in order to counterattack. The scimitar's keen blade slices through chitin easily. The thing falls to the ground, twitching uselessly as its screams its last!

Darsanga moves into range before unleashing a low and rumbling prayer before healing the mounted Hellknight. He anoints Iavdi in the fiendish blood of Hell. Fire erupts from the forged warrior's wounds, and smoke rises into the air. The great horned face of a powerful devil chortles darkly and disappears into the sky as Iavdi's wounds begin to close!

Hellstrider paws at the fly, but the abyssal vermin darts in and flits about the chakat's claws. But, discipline and training prevail in the armiger's heart. She steps backwards and trusts with her lance. The lance strikes true, rupturing the fiendish insect's head and then coming out the other side!

Kevroth spins in place, lashing out with his scimitar. But, the blades cuts too low and the fly darts out of the way, right into Giosue's flying bolt.

I was wondering when the round would end! Was a bit confused, honestly.

Iavdi laughs almost inhumanely as the devil appeared over his head, but doesn't comment any more than that on it.
Did Iavdi actually take any damage? I must've missed it...

Seeing the last fly beginning to be surrounded by the Hellknights, Iavdi quickly joins them, and takes a swing at the...thing. His glaive swings in a glimmering arc of steel. Metal cuts through the fly. It screams a final, agonized, almost human-like screech, and the vermin bursts into a swarm of gnats

The battle is over, the day won. Resolute, the Hellknights stand amidst the spilled blood and ruined bodies of the fiendish vermin. They stand in the ruins of of Clydewell Plaza, atop the ruins of St Clydewell's Cathedral, victorious. And Kenabres burns. The air is think with the smoke from a thousand fires. The clash and clang of battle thunders through the ruins, mingled with the screams of citizens and the roar of demons battling with crusaders. It seems impossible, to stop the tide of chaos overwhelming the city. But, Hellknights are trained to defy the impossible! Duty calls and Fort Nebarius waits.

End of combat!

Ezechias emerges victorious from the fight, yet it is clear that his morale only hangs by a thread when he beholds what has become of Kenabres. The city lies in ruin, and so does his heart. Mourning the dead by addressing a prayer to the Dawnflower, the armiger must once more find inner strength and resolve to stand proud and prove to the demons he is not vainquished yet.

"I can't let this world unravel." thinks aloud the paladin. "We shall stand strong, together, and this wave of chaos shall break upon our unbreakable wall. Darsanga, what are the orders? Shall we quickly make it to Fort Naberius?"

At the chakat's remark, Iavdi scoffs.
"We owe her nothing; she realized that her duty demanded her sacrifice, and was not afraid to finish it through to the end."

Looking down upon the unmounted Hellknights, Iavdi nods ever so slightly.
"You have five minutes to find a mount left standing, whether Hellstrider or one abandoned on the field of battle. After that, you will be left behind."
His words are almost a command, as his tone and sudden exit left no room for argument.

"For we have work to do."
With that, he spurs Igneous on, taking the few strides necessary to exit the cathedral before halting, and seemingly awaiting the set time limit.

D'hara slowly looked around at the carnage and destruction, taking it all in. To see such an established city brought to near ruin was enough to make all but the hardest lose faith. It reminded her of her time with her instructor and one of her first lessons. Given time, wounds heal. Flesh knits and cities rebuild, but before this city could heal, the infection must be removed.

As the others began to discuss plans, D'hara simply walked over and stood next to Giosue. None of these hellknights out ranked her. In such a militant hierarchy, it would be interesting to see who emerged as their commander. It would take someone who commanded respect and demonstrated intelligence. She would wait and see who claimed the crown.

The whinny of horses can be heard over the din of battle. Several strong steeds from the lists are trapped in a burning and partially collapsed stable a short distance away!

The horses will bolt at the first opportunity and must first be calmed before they can be ridden. Bursting the front doors open will send whatever horses are inside free and you'll probably never catch them.
You have to be a little crafty.

"If that is your wish, then I will accept your sacrifice in the name of chaining us more completely to our shared purpose," Giosue said.

Then he listened to Iavdi's remarks in silence. He nodded politely to D'Hara when she came over.

"We are all unequally yoked," he said, voice neutral. "But none of us yoked differently. It is in the nature of our duty, to which we are rightly slaves, to require firm direction and a clear chain of command. I ache the day when its spikes shall drive deep into our bodies and bring us to dance as it wills. However, it is neither productive nor conducive to our forging into a proper weapon of Law to force the issue while we remain in our present circumstance."

"Nor would it be meet in the slightest for our company to be sundered. Ours is not a band sanctioned by the Measures of our respective orders, but is Ninefold sealed by the presence of the enemy before us. To fly from our fellowship is desertion. To desert is death."

From the Bowels of Hell I beseech you to be moved not by pride, vanity, wrath, or other trifling emotion to seek a higher station so to set yourself against us. Our strength is coherence. We are many. You are one. One will may triumph over the many and break them to it, filling them completely until they know no purpose but its own, but that will is not yours."

"We will find what mounts we may and proceed with them together, or we will be sundered and Chaos will come among us. We have all sworn oaths against Chaos. If we break them now, we are truly lost and have fallen thrall to the Enemy. I do not bend my neck for that chain."

Kevroth listens to the impassioned words of his companions, before tilting his head as if having heard a sound. He then beckons to his fellow Hellknights, "Servants of Hell, I believe there are some horses in that burning stable over there; I heard a whinny. I know I have not the skill with animals to control fire-panicked horses. Will one of you help me with this task? It may be that there are enough mounts that all can ride, and none have to demean Hellstrider in such a way."

With that said, he trots over to the stable, looking for a way in that will not allow the horses to escape uncontrolled.

Looking back towards the horses as he speech continued, he starts saddling them all and attemps to lead one to each unmounted Hellknight, save only that if there is a pure white horse he will lead it towards Ezechias in an attempt to raise his spirits.

This happens whenever you guys are done having your totally awesome moment....

The stables burn pressed between the stone walls of a Crusader inn and am armorer. From within, the screams of terrified horses sound. Ezechias carefully opens the stable doors His handle animal check soothed the animals enough that he could that so as not to spook the horses. Timbers crash and fires crackle, and the horses start, pulling at their fetters, but Darsanga's voice, hollow and echoing from within his helm, reminds them of the firm commands of their riders at the lists or on the field, and they are, indeed, calmed. Fires rage within the stable, filling the air with choking smoke and burning cinders. Their light paints the interior in a twisted hellscape of inferno, distorted shadows, and charred flesh. One several horses have already collapsed inside, although six horses remain in trapped in their stalls.

In the center of the stable, a horse bends over one of the corpses and greedily feasts on the ruined steed. It looks up, startled from its feeding as Ezechias opens the door. Its eyes are burning pools of black ink that bleed from its skull. It opens its mouth impossibly wide and screams in some unintelligible tongue as its head elongates and splits. Like some bizarre fleshy costume, the face pulls and rolls back over its skull revealing a vulture's beak filled with writhing sucker-laden tentacles. Its back bulges and contorts as bat-like wings burst from the growths. It kicks the ground as its belly splits, spilling entrails and a giant viper's tail. The creature shakes and the remaining shreds of flesh slip from the abomination's body as it screeches again, tentacles flailing the roof from its impossibly wide beak.

The abomination turns to the armigers, hunger in its eyes.

Iavdi holds back, waiting to see where he can strike inside the tight confines of the burning stable. Hellstrider, however, charges in, trusting her lance to do her work and her sable and armor to protect her from the flames. Her claws scar the stones of the street as she lowers her lance and barrels down on the fiendish abomination. Her lance strikes true, and catches the beast in mid-roar. Her lance runs down the creature's throat, erupting from the is spine. Tentacles flail in the air and lash at the lance and Hellstrider's arm, as she slams the point into the wooden planks of the stable. The creature twitches twice, then stops and slides off the lance. Dead.

And.... that was supposed to last longer. ok, whatever moving on. End of combat. You can go back to RPing now. :)

Inside, the horses whinny and rear, pulling at the their fetters. DC 15 handle animal to calm them and lead them out of the stable.. There are five horses in all, one is pure white as snow, three others, black as pitch, and a final is piebald.

She was right. They are more spooked that she thought. Now she simply tries to bar their escape route

"I appreciate the compliment. Few things shrug off a well placed charge. Even less if you have a well made lance"

Ezechias looks impressed by the chakat's performance. "Well done, Hellstrider! Imagine now if we could charge side by side into the disorganized ranks of the fiend army, slaying them by the dozen! A truly epic tale it would make."

How badly are you wounded? If you're missing 5+ hp I'll establish a life link with you and heal myself.

Ezechias quickly realizes that the horses need to be calmed, so he quietly moves in front of one, emitting soothing noises.
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Once the horses have been successfully (and in an orderly manner) evacuated from the barn, the half-orc pats the white steed to comfort him. "There, there. We'll make a noble steed with you yet. You shall ride with me in battle, cleansing this land soiled with the demonic presence. Hence I name you "Hope", for hope is never lost nor wasted. Hope is what may save us all now."

Some of the others calm the horses and bring them out. Following their example, and perhaps because of their success, Kevroth is able to get the piebald gelding out of the stable and calm. He asks Iavdi to hold the horse, "Iavdi, can you hold him here, we need the saddles and such." If Iavdi will hold the horse, Kevroth will go back in for tack.

Iavdi dismounts, and places one hand on the back of the horses' neck and the other on the front of its chest.

"There, there. Stay. We require your services, noble stallion."

Gonna work on leveling up today, shouldn't be too hard.

Giosue chose his mount with indifference; he had never been much interested in horseflesh. Once everyone appeared settled he spoke again.

"Though I don't wish to press us to unseemly -to say nothing of anarchic- haste, we would do well to seek Fort Naberius and chain ourselves properly in discipline once more."

"You say that as if you need reminding of our cause, brother." Iavdi responds to Giosue, once the others managed to find themselves mounts and joined him.

"The state of this city shall remain a grim reminder for all of us, no?"

Nodding his head to Darsanga, he waits until he has been passed by the paladin before falling in line behind him.

Kevroth nods in thanks to Iavdi when he returns with the tack. He fumbles with it for a while before he gets the right pieces on the horse in the right way. He then mounts and rides up to even with the front of the line.

Ride: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13.

D'hara stood quietly as the Hell Knights worked to free the horses. She had no desire to ride a horse and really saw no point in it. Horses could be skittish and hard to control. They were hard enough to get through the city streets before the chaos had erupted. She assumed she would be quick enough on foot, and if not, she was light enough to ride Hellstrider if it came to that. Although that was not an ideal situation for either of them.

Gah, an unarmored Hellknight that doesn't like riding horses? Poor old Daidian Ruel is spinning in his grave!

I'm sure I'll ride a horse sooner or later. I doubt I'll wear armor, but I'm not counting it out totally. Perhaps I can get an illusion to look like I'm wearing hellknight plate...

With measured discipline, the armigers march from the ruins of St Clydewell's Plaza astride their new-found mounts. Like the unflinching legions of Hell, they move with grim purpose through the ruined streets. Hordes of demons and other, less describable, abominations dash themselves at the Hellknights from all quarters. Unnatural fangs and claws rake at their armor, but even weary as they are from their battles against the fiends and abominations before, they persevere with only minor scrapes and bruises! The boundless chaos of the Abyss is naught against the iron-bound will of Hell!

All around the knights, buildings explode as massive flaming boulders that scream with thousands of human voices collide sickening fleshy thuds against the stones! The fleshy boulders pulsate and explode in sprays of foul necromantic goo and bizarre, twisted, amalgamations of animals and things. The abominations swarm over crusaders they encounter, devouring all flesh before moving on to the next, until they are blast asunder by the eldritch powers of crusader wizards and priests.

Still, they are no match for the Hellknights, and the armigers ride on! Finally, through three portcullises and several twists, the Hellnights rein the horses in before the grim black walls of Fort Nebarius. The black walls rise out of the stones of the plaza, seamless and forged of a single block of stone. The crenelations are razor-sharp iron spikes topped with the rotting heads of demons and mortals branded with infernal marks. Agents of chaos, all. Fiendish bodies putrify in piles surrounding the fort, some erupt into sickly green flames that put forth foul poisonous gases.

The gates are sealed shut, although guards patrol the towers and walkways of the small keep. A small window opens in the gates. State your business!

Sorry, wanted to move things along and give peeps time to finish updating before i sprang more combats on you.

"By the Order of the Godclaw I come, by the Might of the Chain have we survived, though the Immaculate nature of the Gate do we march ever on, By Law and order does the Nail preserve us, through descruction and firey will does the Pyre aspire us, though Measure does the Wrack bring us, The Chain and Scourge order us ever onward.!!!

"I am Hellknight Arminger Darsanga Barstos, leader of the group of hellknights before you. The Five have seen fit to allow us to destroy what we could in the Chaotic City of Kenabres, I saw Chaotic as it and the mighty Silver Dragon have fallen. Hordes of Chaos spawn now make it their home. We seek order from the Master of this Citadel, and supplies so that we may bring the Order of Law unto that place.!"

Step in at any time I kinda took over the leadership role but if out of character others want it we can talk it out in the discussion part
