The sound of armored boots heading up stairs and bits of what's being said.

"...master safe..."

"...whatever it takes..."

"Maybe we should rethink our plan here? If we kill all the guards, aren't we just doing the Songbird's work for him?" Aleixica whispers.


"That's why I didn't shoot either of the guards. They're just doin' their jobs" Bishop whispers back.

"Well, do we go for the target and have a little talk with him or just find a place to lay low and try to wait for the songbird to show up?


"We should have a talk with him, convince him to get lost for his own sake."

They are all guilty. This entire town is corrupt. I only put them out of their misery.

"What does that say about us, Lucius ..." Aleixica asks.

"Still, if we're going to talk to him, let's go in..." she continues, gesturing for Jerro to lead the group on.


Bishop steadies himself and then opens the door to lead the group in.


As Bishop touches the door's handle and pulls, a sickly green ray springs out at him.

The door opens to a spacious foyer. Chaotic footprints indicate that several men once stood her. An elaborate wide staircase leads up to the second floor and doors on the southern and eastern walls go to other rooms.

Muffled speech can be heard from upstairs and from somewhere on the first floor.


"I don't feel too good." Flat-footed touch AC? If so that hits.

Bishop will check out the muffled voices on the first floor.

"We don't have time now, but when we get a chance, I can ask Desna to see if she can do something about it."

Unless you want to let remove curse handle it?

"Maybe we need to be a little more careful, though, the rest of the way. We have to deal with the guard and the Songbird."


"You're a priestess? I reckon I'd appreciate it if you could do that fer me."

"Well, let's not go that far. But Desna sometimes listens when I ask her for favors or help. Of course, sometimes she's the reason I need favors and help. ... Like now, I suppose."

She gives a lopsided grin and shrugs in a what-can-you-do manner.


"That's good enough fer me darlin."


Opening the door to the east, Bishop finds a room clearly intended for dining. A single heavy wooden table dominates the center of this space and several padded chairs surround it.

There are two doors on the southern wall.


Bishop moves up to closest door and listens in.

Bishop hears movement from the other side of the building.


Bishop motions for the party to gather by the door before he opens it.

Tristan moves in, buttressing Bishop at the door's threshold.

"I got no problem with that. Do you darlin?" Bishop asks the female halfling.

"I can certainly give it a try. I like it when the guy is behind me anyway."

With a wink at Bishop, Ember moves up to the door to look it over, checking for traps.

Also, Ember has the Rogue Talent:
Trap Spotter (Ex): Whenever a rogue with this talent comes within 10 feet of a trap, she receives an immediate Perception skill check to notice the trap. This check should be made in secret by the GM.


Bishop clearly not expecting that response is a left speechless, grinning. "A spitfire, this one is."


Oops. I didn't know Ember had that...

Ember notices a mechanism attached to the door handle that runs down the wall and across the floor to the center of the room (under the table). It looks like it's connected to the keyhole. It also looks like a trap.

Ember and Lucius work quickly and within a few seconds, the pair are confident that the trap is disarmed.

Opening the door, Bishop finds the manor's kitchen complete with a meal, midway through preparation suddenly abandoned.

Two armored Hellknights look up in surprise at the party as the doors open. Behind them, a backdoor has been broken down.

"Stand down. You are all under arrest!"

Bishop : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Ember : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Alexica : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Bishop is up.


Bishop will 5 foot over to AC28. "Ain't that cute. He think's he's takin' us in." He comments before unloading a barrage of bullets on H2.

"Hold a moment, Tristan," Aleixica calls out, touching him again lightly on the shoulder and granting him a touch of Desna's favor. "Let's try not to kill them, please. Remember we're here to save a life?"

Mechanics:

Assuming Tristan holds for her action, she'll use Bit of Luck on him as a standard action, not moving any farther into the room. If he doesn't hold, she'll use it on Ember.

Bit of Luck (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, giving it a bit of luck. For the next round, any time the target rolls a d20, he may roll twice and take the more favorable result.


Bishop's shots tear through the hellknight's armor leaving him bloodied but standing.

The rest of the party is up.


"These guys are Hellknights. I'll shed no tears for 'em."

"And the Hellknights know our faces," Tristan responds to Aleixica, "If we let them live, we'll have more than one life to worry about saving."

Tristan races forward to AD29 and releases holds his hands out, fingers splayed, and thumbs touching. White flames pulsing with a ghostly energy fan outward, catching both Hellknights in its wave as the fire slinks about every corner. Aiming the cone directly south, I should be able to hit both of them.

Sorry about this, Aleixica.

Lucius's arrows bring the wounded Hellknight to his knees and Tristan's spell cooks him in his armor. The armored figured falls to the ground, a charred husk.

Unfortunately, he can't charge Ember. There's a Tristan in the way.

The other Hellknight raises his blade rushes forward to cut down the witch.

As the Hellknight's longsword cuts deep into Tristan's frame, the witch's eyes turn completely black. He exhales a cloud of black smoke into the Hellknight's face, enveloping his foe in the choking illusory fumes, cursing him.

Fate’s Retribution (Su): Starting at 1st level, when you are hit by a melee attack, as an immediate action, you can curse the creature that struck you. The target takes a –2 penalty on all attack and damage rolls for 1d4 rounds.

Will DC 14 negates.

Rounds cursed on a failed save: 1d4 ⇒ 4

The Hellknight staggers as the foul spell washes over him and blinks second later to find that it's passed.


Bishop drops his gun and steps forward. He puts his hands up and starts brawling.

From entryway two angelic figures with black feathered wings fly into the dining room.

"Dissidents!" they shriek. "They must be punished!"

One fires a bow made of gnarled black wood while the other gestures and pummels the party with unholy power.

Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + (5) + 6 + 1 = 17

It hits everyone. Will save for half. Half again if you're not good. In addition, if you fail the will save, you're Sickened.

They're E1 and E2 on the northern end of the dining room.

Aleixica recognizes them as erinyes. She knows pretty much everything there is to know about them.
