Glued as it was, it's still a simple wooden door vs a 21 STR Ogrekin Fiona armed with a beat down stick and power attack - the door is now closer to matchsticks. Would have stopped a normal bad guy though!

He uses his "free time" to apply a dose of spider venom to his blade.

Sad face.

(I wouldn't have let me do it either, but Chuffy wouldn't know any better, and it was worth a shot. I ask because there wasn't an acknowledgement of the action.)

Liberty's Edge

Don't forget, Munchmeat has to decide if he wants to do anything to prevent next round's fire damage.

All good, you set it... but from your vantage you can't see what has or hasn't happened yet :p However, assuming he hit the glue, you'd be expecting something to happen very soon...

Seriously, how much fire did they give you guys!?

The roof blasts again, wood and feathers (!?) fly - and when the smoke clears, you see the Ogre fall back onto the roof, burning away, from your vantage point all you can see is the top of the alchemist fire still burning beautifully

The building is now firmly on fire (the outside).

Chuffy strongly considers letting the dog have Poog for dinner. Maybe then Chuffy could be chief.

But then Chuffy remembers how the chief has to be the one to listen to all the complaining, and doesn't get to do the fun raids because he's busy chiefing.

So, Chuffy, invisible as he is, steps behind the doggy and does a poisoned slice-n-dice.
dogslicer+flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 = 22 (plus any bonuses for coming out of invisibility)
damage+sneak: 1d4 - 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) - 1 + (5, 2) = 9
Plus, DC 14 or 1d2 Str/rnd, medium spider venom

And to answer the other question, Poog has a wand of fireball, and Reta has a necklace of fireballs, and Moggy is, well, Moggy. But it's not nearly enough; there are still buildings standing!

VC - Sydney, Australia

The dog doesn't have much love for a chunk off steel poking out of it.
Curiously it dies.

OK state of play...
The building is burning, mostly on the outside and upper floors but the smoke and flames are certainly picking up. Anything of interest inside will rapidly become unreachable...

Underneath the house, some big beast that looks like a cross between and Owl and a Bear is rattling its cage door trying to flee the fire.

The last combatants you can see are almost at the fence line and seemingly about to jump it and keep fleeing.

Happy for you guys to give chase, or to let them flee.

If you let them flee we leave rounds and you can let me know your general plans and I can wrap up the outcomes. Provided you don't do anything too whackadoo - like go and disturb Princess Crackling or take on the Owlybear in an arm wrestle!

Yeah, they gave Poog a 3 charge wand of fireball. I used the first charge on the stirge contest. It would have been a shame to not use them all.

Poog will send Zarongel's magic dogslicer after the fleeing Ogre for its final round of existence. He won't pursue any more than that.

Let the fleeing monsters go, I think.

Chuffy, grumbling at being told what to do, does what he's told to do.

He quaffs his potion of "fire don't hurt", and sneaks over to the building's basement to see what he can see.

Chuffy continues to see how close he can get without being seen. Is there a way in/out that he could fit but not the Owlybear?

Stealth: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37

VC - Sydney, Australia

With the owlbear, it is seeking to flee the burning building but the locked door prevents its escape. There is another way into the cell through its roof, but that appears to be via an entry inside the house. The safest path appears to be springing the door and standing clear if you want to let it run away, but climbing in with it in a confined space may leave you with an angry owlbear in a room full of straw under burning building... :p

The house has a separate front door, but the main contentious issue is what to do with the Owlbear

Poog 4/5 | AC 14 t13 ff12 | F+0 R+2 W+3 | CMD 9 | Init +6 | Per +1

Chuffy rubs his hands together. Then he beckons the others over, and dips his crossbow bolts in poison. 2nd of 5 doses

Ranged hand crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Plus any bonuses for being sneaky.
dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 1
sneak attack: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Poison: DC 14 or 1d2 Str/rnd, medium spider venom

He continues this process as needed. It's like spearing fish on a sandwich. Or in a barrel. Chuffy will slay the great owlbear.
Although with that roll, he may need some help.

GM:

For as long as the beast is caged, Chuffy repeats the process. Poison, load, attack.
Ranged hand crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Poison: DC 14 or 1d2 Str/rnd, medium spider venom

dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Poison: DC 14 or 1d2 Str/rnd, medium spider venom. LAST DOSE

VC - Sydney, Australia

After the second shot, the Owlbear takes the hint and moves out of sight.
You can hear it moving around... the fire is now out of control and consuming the house. Should you wish to salvage items you will need to act fairly quickly....

Basically all the loot and good stuff is just rounds away from being unrecoverable

1d20 ⇒ 4
1d20 ⇒ 20

Poog 4/5 | AC 14 t13 ff12 | F+0 R+2 W+3 | CMD 9 | Init +6 | Per +1

If I wished to salvage items, it would help to have a description of salvageable items. You're hinting there's something in the basement, and based on the description of action I'm either also in the basement, or close enough to see in, but I don't recall seeing it described.

Where is "out of sight"? Goblins have darkvision, and it sounds like it's still close.

GM:
I recently finished GMing this scenario, although this is my first time playing it, so I know what the scenario says is there.

Maybe someone else wishes to step in with some ideas?

Liberty's Edge

Mogmurch moves in to help loot the house before all is lost.

I'm afraid I can't do anything more clever - UNLESS, as I was permitted to do with my actual Alchemist in a game long past, you would permit me to try fighting fire with fire, and strategically bombing some of the blaze in order to 'short out' some of the fire's oxygen supply?

VC - Sydney, Australia

Chuffz, any salvagable items would be up in the house (or on a burning corpse), which is blazing and burning due to two fireballs, one internal and one external - and an alchemist fire on the roof. You have a couple of rounds before it gets out of hand. You haven't been inside to look, so you don't know what is there yet... you guys nuked the place from the outside without going in.

With regard the basement, the inset map shows that there is a door you can get a shot through (you can shoot from the outside because the door has gaps), but once it moves away it would be out of shot you'd need to open the door and shoot around a corner. It is also filling rapidly with smoke which will impede darkvision.

Pretty much what I need to know is:
Let the Owlbear flee and then search its nest.
Let the Owlbear out and engage it.
Try kill the Owlbear where it is by opening the door and shooting inside (or leave it to the flames)
And if looting the house, the player wont be engaging the Owlbear

not looking for any nifty solutions, you just have limited time - enough to be looting or killing, but maybe not both

Poog 4/5 | AC 14 t13 ff12 | F+0 R+2 W+3 | CMD 9 | Init +6 | Per +1

Got it. Much clearer, thanks.

Chuffy unlocks the door for the owlbear. It's too bad he won't get to watch it burn, but maybe there's gold upstairs. Or even Fireworks! Wouldn't that be fun?

He opens the door wide to let the creature flee. (Maybe one of the others can search the basement. He tries signaling to them, but they probably misunderstand his gesticulations.) Then, protected by his potion of resist fire, Chuffy hurries around to the broken front door to try and loot the house while there is still time.

Reta — HP 8/8 | AC 14 (t 13, ff 12) | F +3, R +2, W +0 | Init +2 Perc +8

Reta sees the door swing open and moves towards it, bow in hand. If the owlbear runs away, she'll dart in and check out the basement. If it doesn't right away, she will...'prod it' with a flaming arrow.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Chuffy lets the Owlybear out and it starts fleeing the fire.

He slips into its pen, climbs the hay, and crawls through the caged roof up into the Ogres living room. The floor of this filthy chamber is made of rough floorboards. Numerous gaps between them show a dark space below the building. A large pile of furs and straw is heaped to the south, and a huge trap door sits in the very center of the room (the one Chuffy climbed in). To the west, a single ill-fitting door hangs askew on a single hinge.

Making his way to the room next dor makes even Chuffy gasp!

A huge, bloodstained table sits in the center of this filthy kitchen, and to the south lies a heap of furs arranged in the rough approximation of a mattress. The place reeks of rotten meat from numerous poorly executed taxidermy projects that lie scattered around the room, including partially stuffed pigs, birds, bobcats, and even a goblin body with a mass of bloody straw and sticks protruding from its neck instead of a head. Reta's head would probably fit this rather interesting dolly.
The dolly wears some nice armour, Chuffy drags the body and throws it down the hole for later. Reta, who is downstairs almost gets hit.

Chuffy moves upstairs to Oger dads room. The dominant feature of this room is a large bed—really nothing more than a nest made of old mattresses, loose straw, and mud. The fleas swarming on the “bed” are obvious from several feet away. A large hole in the western wall opens out onto the lower roof of the house, and a single trap door sits in the ceiling above - but is solidly on fire, as is this room!

Among the clutter in the bed are scattered 275 gp, six gourds of fire burping, a cage containing a dead wolverine (the wolverine still wears a shiny amulet of around its neck), a sack of straw with a gold needle lost in it (the needle is worth 100 gp), and a large (easy to find now the straw is heaps burnt), and a badly made, taxidermic dire corby.

Everything goes out the window.

Chuffy sneaks past his sovereign glue and finds Pa's burnt body on the roof, one foot glued to the roofing. Chuffy steals the burny spear and throws the fun looking items off the body.

Chuffy then gets down before the building falls over.

Good thing he was fireproof as he is charred and covered with soot.

***

Reta notes the owlybear flee and pokes around inside the lair. She almost gets hit by a falling headless Goblin body and thinks it is Chuffy. Until Chuffy laughs due to almost hitting Reta with the falling corpse.

Reta doesn't find much, only some big tasty looking eggs...

ROLL CREDITS!

Thanks guys, I'll get your sheets out tonight :)
