The Wrecking Crew (Inactive)

Game Master Ryuko

A Shadowrun campaign of racing, riding and grandstanding to victory.

1 to 50 of 106 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

All right folks, I'm gonna be running a 4e Shadowrun game via PbP on these boards. It will be set in Tokyo, Japan in 2070, and will follow a group of people participating in "Urban Combat Biking!!" A new sport experiencing a huge spike of popularity growth in Tokyo's criminal underground. The Tokyo proposed here is a gigantic vertical sprawl, where richer citizens may have never even seen the ground, with mazes of walkways and highways connecting megalithic skyscrapers. Urban Combat Biking teams are often compared to gangs... and the comparison is not far off. Since the sport has little to no official monitoring, stealing parts, mechanics, or entire bikes is common, and quietly 'getting rid of' the other teams star biker is not unheard of.

Into this strange sport of vehicle mayhem and vauge rules will be dropped a new team of 5 people. Everyone knows that Urban Combat Biking will be the next big thing, and that it's only a couple of years until it gets an official league. Once it does so the people at the top will be sippin' champagne and eating caviar omae, and an anonymous corporate sponsor thinks this is his chance to get some real big bucks and move up a place or two in the ranks. More importantly the players will be able to relax. All you gotta do is make it to the top, and stay there for a bit.

Simple. Right?

Character Creation Rules:
300 BP, Only half may be spent on Attributes.
Each Character must have a vehicle or be sharing with another.
No riggers allowed (Who wants a computer to drive their car for them? They don't let it in combat biking.)
We will be using the Vehicle upgrades and enhancements from Arsenal, so that will be a useful book to have, and standard issue vehicles will wow no one in the games.

This game will be both over-the-top and ridiculous (During events) and gritty and dark (outside of them). Urban Combat Biking is supposed to be nonlethal, but deaths happen and the fans don't mind much. The characters should be fairly loyal to each other and should want nothing more than to be the best around at the sport, though their reasons are their own. During the games being safe will get you nowhere, the more out there you are, the more likely the crowd is to remember you.

Post your characters below and remember everyone... Style over Substance, everytime.

Lantern Lodge

This sounds very interesting. I haven't played a whole lot of Shadowrun, but I do own the core book. I also own the Hero Lab data for it. I do not own Arsenal yet though, I plan to get the data for Hero Labs once it is out.

I will try to come up with a character concept today and get it created within the next few days.

Liberty's Edge

I have been dying to play in a Shadowrun 4E game forever now; and this might be my best chance to do anytime soon. Gonna throw my hat in the ring here; will cook something up ASAP and get it to you.

So the players are essentially making up a Tokyo Go-Gang? Awesome! For vehicle types, are bikes the more appropriate way to go than say, a modded out van/tank monstrosity?

Bikes are the more accepted style. That said, the game doesn't have many rules, and what rules it has are quite... flexible.

Dotting. I want to join this badly.

How do you rule grenade launchers with regards to size? I.E. I can mount an LMG or smaller to a standard mount; would I need a reinforced mount to slap on a grenade launcher or mortar?

Liberty's Edge

Alright I have the numbers crunched and a character pretty well statted together. Just a few questions and I will try to get this written up and posted:

-If you mount a LMG (like an Ingram White Knight); does that mean you would use the Gunnery skill to fire it?

-It sounds like the games are not purposefully lethal (although that is totally accepted)...should we use gel rounds or assume that lethality is the unspoken standard?

-Is the Runner's Companion open for use in this game?

-Is it alright for me to play a female character? I had an NPC that I was going to use a few years back (that was a go ganger) but the game fell though; I'd really like to reuse the character concept.

That is everything I can think of; going to start writing this up and I should be able to have something posted before the day is over especially once those questions are answered

Questions answered (in no particular order)

Mounted weapons always use the gunnery order

Grenade launchers or mortars would use reinforced mounts.

Gel rounds will be standard, though they are modified with a very difficult to remove neon paint (to show when/where/hpw often you we're hit. Gotta keep stats for the riders somehow)

Female is fine

Yup, essentially a Tokyo go-gang

Runners Comp, Unwired, Arsenal, Street Magic and Core rulebook all allowed but characters must be standard races.

Liberty's Edge

Phew; really need to pick up a copy of hero labs..that took awhile. Character sheet fully written up and filled out but now it's super late. Will type this up in forum format sometime tomorrow and get it out.

Lantern Lodge

Will not having Arsenal be a hindrance? If so is there a way that I can get the info from the book without buying it (since I would have to wait on shipping, and that doesn't help the situation) or a place where I can get a PDF of it? The Hero Lab data is supposed to come out mid February so I should be getting it around then.

Arsenal is kind of the end all be all for vehicles and mods as well as some pretty nice weapons so in what sounds like a vehicle heavy game...

It will be a hindrance, though not an insurmountable one. I'm sure there are places you could pick up a pdf without paying, but I would never encourage such a thing.

Someone put up a character for me to scan over lol[/cranky GM]

Damn my lack of shadowrun books.

Description:

Weight: 168 lbs (includes bone lacing)
Height: 5' 5"

Deirde is a little on the short side for an elf; something of which she keenly overcompensates for with attitude. She has long
cornsilk blonde hair and intense green eyes with just a spattering of light freckles around her cheeks. She has a naturally fair,
innocent and almost waifish look to her which when combined with her distinctly un elf-like measurements (36-25-36) have had the effect
of causing people to underestimate her or make generalizations about what she is like. These characteristics are offset by a light scar
running down over her left eye, her nose piercing and her flamboyantly chrome right cyber arm. If those jarring traits weren't enough her accent
(and propensity for swearing like a sailor) will quickly dispel any remaining vestiges of the waifish illusion. Originally
hailing from the emerald isle she grew up in the streets and has a jarringly guttersnipe cockney accent that tends to shock people when
it spills from her fair elven lips. Deirdre is something of a tomboy and a thrillseeker; always eager to prove that she can do it (whatever
it is) just as good as "the boys" or better. She loves a good dust up, fried foods, beer, wrestling and urban combat biking.

Other traits of note:
Vivid tattoos of ivy, thorns and roses which crawl around her lower back and also her right shoulder. They are high quality and expensive looking; made with glow in the dark inks.

This isn't finished yet; but I figured at least getting the character sheet, mathy parts and description up would be good. I will come back and fill in the backstory once that is all written up.

Backstory:

In Progress - will fill in once totally written up

Edit: Forgot the hand razors on the cyberarm

I very much like Deirdre LeBlanc, exactly what we need. Crazy, fun and great to watch. Good work Eris

Alright -- I don't have the books (yet) but I do have herolab which I'm using to create the character -- I did have the books at one point though and am looking at getting them back again.

If I'm allowed in I would be looking at an adept I think (the magic using non astral kind, not the physical type). I'm thinking a techie sort of young guy. I'm looking at combat paralysis as a flaw too.

I haven't really picked a race yet however I'm thinking human or orc. He's not in it for the fame or glory -- instead looking at the bikes and people and primarily tries to enhance/reinforce them.

For stats I'm looking at:
Body 2, Agility 2, Reaction 4, Strength 2
Charisma 2, Inituition 3, Logic 4, Willpower 3
Edge 2, Magic 6

Still looking over everything and working back through it of course, but as I get parts close in my mind I'll put them together here.

For those interested This seems to be a good character generator.

Basically a hot shot driver mechanic that's not fond of being shot at. I'm thinking that instead of shooting at others he's more likely to try to alter the terrain with magic and such.

Sounds awesome Abraham, might he be a medic/Cybermechanic type too?

He certainly could be -- I can put him more into the tech angle. I finally found more of what I'm specifically looking for.

I'm looking at magic (spells) 4 and adept 2 with multi-tasking and enhanced reflexes 1 for him (.5 and 1.5) -- spell wise I'm looking at mind link, physical barrier, heal, analyze device, and possibly something like clairvoyance. Stuff that's useful but not direct fire so to speak. If he ends up a passenger I'll contribute some of his wealth to help with that vehicle and have been be a navigator/mid-race technician.

If not I might have him be team support and pull a 'speed racer' sort of thing with some type of aerial vehicle.

Looks pretty cool, but do remember that lost essence takes away from your magic, meaning that those two points you have gone would pull away from either his spell or adept abilities.

EDIT: *Facepalm* shows what I know. You're naming adept powers and for some reason I was thinking cyberware. Carry on.

The funny thing is it about amounts to the same.

Well it doesn't take away your powers, just from spells.

K so I've finally started building my ork character and I'm thinking high risk/high reward kinda guy doing every drug under the sun (enough to where he'll be king for a few hours then black out for just as many). Cybered up to keep him from killing himself and his motorcycle is looking pretty sweet so far too :)

Lantern Lodge

OK, I have an Elf Medic/Chemist made up. I am just going to read through the Arsenal tomorrow and make the modifications necessary to add in material from that book.

I've hardly touched SR4 (just one shortly-lived game played via IRC and a wiki), but I have a lot of experience with 2nd/3rd edition. I'm interested in playing a shaman; I have two concepts so just let me know which one would fit best.

1. A coyote shaman who is completely out of his element. Coyote appeared to him in a vision and told him to go to Tokyo and join one of these teams/gangs, so he did. He barely speaks enough Japanese to get by, but his roguish charm and balls-of-steel have let him make it this far. Probably human or elven.

2. A shape-shifting panther shaman who lives in the moment and considers himself an urban predator (I'm going for a Dexter vibe). UCB offers money, acclaim, and a socially acceptable form of violence. He got into the sport as a way of getting closer to one of the thugs he was stalking and stuck with it because it appealed to the adrenaline junky in him. Probably an orc or troll.

I don't have a clue what Tokyo is like in 2070, is there somewhere that we could read up on the setting?

Liberty's Edge

Couldn't edit my original character post higher up anymore (for some reason) so here is a short back story of Deirdre LeBlanc (D-Frag). If this is too short and more is needed just let me know.

Backstory:

Deirdre was born in Ireland to a human and elven couple. One Rainier LeBlanc (Elf) and his wife Maggie LeBlanc (Human); her parents were both middle
class corporate working stiffs. She spent the first few years of her childhood in Ireland before the family moved to New York to escape racial
tensions. Her very early childhood was fairly typical aside from the occasional tension that seemed to follow the family due to her parents
inter-racial relationship. However one night at a family dinner the restaurant where they were eating was firebombed by a group of Humanis Policlub
terrorists. That day she lost not only her parents but also her right arm and her left eye. She slipped through the cracks of the system and lived
for a time on the streets of New York becoming addicted to BTLs to escape the despair of her wretched condition and lost loved ones...she probably
would have perished there like so many others. Luckily for her instead she was picked up by a small Go-Gang in the area that saw some potential in her.
They took her to a back alley chrome shop and exchanged some favors for a working arm and eye and taught her the ropes of biking. She loved it;
the thrill of riding and the feel of being something more than just her flawed physical form filled her with a sense of power and freedom. She remained
a Go-Ganger in New York for another 10 years growing to young womanhood in the harsh streets of New York and thriving on the experience. However
eventually it become harder and harder to get the thrills and excitement she craved; when she heard of the rising phenomena of Urban Combat biking over
seas she decided to raise the cred to move to Tokyo and seek her fortune (and next big adrenaline rush) in the arena of Urban Combat Biking.

The issue with that is that I'm not using the 'canon' Tokyo of 4e, so let me explain.

No wait, it's too long. Let me sum up.

Tokyo of 2070:
Tokyo has always had an issue with space. There's never really enough of it to go around, but in 2011 with the Awakening Tokyo experienced a surge of new people flocking to the lands of their ancestors for spiritual growth. At first these people lived in shanty towns and tenements, many spilling into the street and further blocking Tokyo's already congested and crowded traffic. Eventually the elite and corporate of the city grew tired of it. Hundreds of urban renewal projects sprang up, focused on using the new post-Awakening magic and building techniques to build an 'upper level' to the city, with it's own highways, buildings and walkways simply built several stories off the ground. Back in those days you could still see the sun from the ground. Not anymore.

What followed for roughly 20 years was a viscous cycle. The brighter, more clever or desperate enough of the lower class would make enough to get a pass to the higher levels, which would eventually get crowded enough to get people sick of it again, and they'd build upward, creating a very clear, if unintentional, strata of division within the city. By the 2040s anyone who lived on the ground was either SINless or just far too poor to scrape together any money. The air down there was rank, and the sunlight was very rare. It was only 40 Nuyen to get a ride to the next level up, but not many in that near-feral land could manage to scrape that together, since all the jobs, money and influence had moved upward. By contrast the rich and the corporate lived in spires, high above their odd city, looking down on its spaghetti-like tangle of multileveled streets and highways.

I've got a bit more in my head but some of it is hard to put to paper, so you'll see more as I work on the setting a bit.

EDIT: Also love both of your concepts, go with whichever fuels your imagination more.

Cool.

Just wanted to make sure I was clear about the panther shaman- he is a serial killer who turns into a panther and eats people he doesn't like. I completely understand if that's too dark or otherwise inappropriate for your game. If it's OK then I'll go ahead and write him up.

Liberty's Edge

I love it; plus that will really create a great "playground" for urban combat biking with layers upon layers of tangled highway, near abandoned neighborhoods and decaying urban sprawl choked with crumbling roadway in three dimensions. Really looking forward to it =D

...please let me know if you see anywhere I could trim some fat, I had a hard time getting the build down to 300 points while keeping some of the bits that I wanted for flavor. I'm worried that I'm spending too many points on skills, but I can't figure out what to drop. My last GM let us buy skill groups as a package then upgrade/specialize the individual skills separately; that's what I did here (Athletics@1, Influence@2). If you don't allow that then I'll have to free up a few more points.

I'm looking into options for my bike and other gear and was wondering how you deal with equipment availability. Specifically, would it be possible for my agent to cut a deal with Ares to promote the Fogger Glop Cannon (Armory, pg 123) so I could have a legal permit?

Liberty's Edge

I need to make a slight correction to my sheet; in looking over other people's character sheets (and then subsequently cracking the Core Rules 4ED and reading the part about Edge more closely) I realized I juxtaposed the starting Essence and Edge values. Deirdre LeBlanc should have an Edge of 1.

Lantern Lodge

So I have been going through Arsenal and I think my character would like to utilize the Chemistry rules at some point, is this alright?

And I have a question about the Modification rules. I have a Suzuki Mirage with the following mods:

Anti-Theft (Slots: 2; 1,200¥ x2)
Chameleon Coating (Slots: 2; 6,000¥)
Motorcycle Gyro Stabilization (Slots: 1; 1,800¥ x2)
Oil-Slick Sprayer (Slots: 1; 500¥ x2; 6 Charges; Complete Refill 50¥)
Pimped Ride (Slots: 1; Level 2; 3,000¥)
Valkryie Module (Slots: 2; 2,000¥)

Total Slots: 9/6
Total Spent: 18,000¥/20,000¥

The ones with the x2 are the double cost for going over the max slots. The Pimped Ride I am getting was enclosing the bike to look like this.

Just checking if this is alright? I am even willing to spend the other 2,000¥ if needed. Or donate that to another player.

That seems fine, a very cool sounding bike. Go ahead and post the full build when you're done.

[Sgmendez Here]
Here is the profile to the character with all the stats and stuff. It is exported from Hero Labs, so if anything is missing let me know.

I have added the backstory to the page, here it is as well:

Backstory:

Masuta grew up in a wealthy family, learning the art of medicine and chemistry from an early age, with his trusted robotic doberman, Idaina Kemono, by his side. He was put through school to become a renowned doctor, but this all fell apart when his allergy to the toxins and pollutants in the air surfaced.
No longer being able to stay outdoors for long periods of time Masuta spent long hours trying to find a cure for his ailment. He has had no such luck to this day, but did find that a respirator does allow him to stay outdoors for longer periods of time. He took relish in the thought of walking outdoors again, taking his companion with him.

During his research he found two things that caught his interest, one was the creation and selling of drugs both medicinal and illegal, and the other was the concept of street bike racing combat. The streets are tough, especially one with a wealthy background and weak constitution.

This made Masuta eager to learn martial arts, a way that even a "weak" man can defend himself. Though it was taking to long, so to help speed up the process he gathered some money and got himself some biotech implants, strengthening his muscles, bones, and skin, and he figured why not improve his mental capacity at the same time, he had the money. He even fitted Idaina with an Uzi, just for insurance of course.

He became obsessed with racing, and to an extent fights. He was a smart man though and knew even with his mods he wouldn't last to long on his own, so now he seeks out a team, a group that can help him reach the top and dominate. This is how "The Doc" came to be.

History:

Alan's history sounds like something you would have heard in one of those old "Successes of America" vids -- that is if they still made them. As a teenager he worked to support his family (two siblings and his mother who also worked) and managed to put himself through both a technical school and a magic school at the same time.

Between his and his mother's income they were able to move up in the world and a mechanic that could double as a sorcerer wasn't a common thing -- job offers were coming in enough that he should have been corporate locked easily enough. Unfortunately all the work and study cost him some of his health -- but as he figured it was something he could buy back later when he moved further up in the world.

However Alan had a passion for the cycles -- and his was good -- enclosed, fast, and with just a bit of extra armor to ensure his safety... and there were people that wanted that cycle. People he made the mistake of refusing to give it too.

The explosion and fire were chalked up to an illegal drug manufacturer the level down -- Alan had his suspicions but there wasn't much that could be done about them -- his mother was at work at the time and Alba (his youngest sister) at school. Tara (the middle child) however was at home at the time sick. His mother, grief stricken, fell into a funk and Alan couldn't keep up the work pace and taken care of everyone at the same time.

When they asked for the bike again he agreed to race them for it. Combat cycle racing was something new to him, and they thought winning would be easy -- it certainly should have been. Not a single one of them expected the wall that appeared in front of them, none of them hit the breaks either running into the barrier at 200 Km/H.

Since then he's signed up with a team -- having the extra members around meant more people to help and more protection for his family. The money wasn't bad either, between it and regular work he was able to keep things afloat. In time Alba was finally old enough that she has her own job while attending school, and unfortunately their mother passed away.

The one area of his life that he has felt the lack in has been his romantic life. With the amount of time he's spent doing other things he hadn't had to the time to pursue any interests. His 'netiquette' isn't that great either due to a lack of time to really socialize.

For his bike I'm thinking something similar to this with perhaps the top retracting as shown elsewhere here.

I don't have arsenal so if someone can help me out with a modded vehicle that fits that I would appreciate it. Still working on spending money (I'm hoping to save 1,200 to go into my wealth roll) but I figure that's enough to give a good idea of where I'm at.

For those still looking at bikes this, this, or this might be something for your fancy. If you want something light enough you could probably carry it this might be for you.

Quote:
Adept Powers: Multi-tasking (I think -- I don't have the book so if someone can tell me what this one does that would be great) and increased reflexes (1)

I'm working from memory, but IIRC multitasking let you divide your attention between two mental activities without penalties. You could hold a conversation and watch a trid at the same time without being distracted. In combat it lets you 'observe in detail' as a free action, or observe in detail twice as a standard action. I considered taking it to represent a predator's focused attention but decided to go with improved senses/enhanced perception instead.

Also, I love the use of the Physical Barrier spell you mention in your background. I considered taking the spell for that same reason but decided it didn't really fit Neko's style. I'm glad someone else thought of it...

Description:

Weight: 168 lbs (includes bone lacing)
Height: 5' 5"
Sex: F
Age: 29
Lifestyle: Low (1 month paid)

Deirde is a little on the short side for an elf; something of which she keenly overcompensates for with attitude. She has long
cornsilk blonde hair and intense green eyes with just a spattering of light freckles around her cheeks. She has a naturally fair,
innocent and almost waifish look to her which when combined with her distinctly un elf-like measurements (36-25-36) have had the effect
of causing people to underestimate her or make generalizations about what she is like. These characteristics are offset by light scar
running down over her left eye, her nose piercing and her flamboyantly chrome right cyber arm.

Backstory:

Deirdre was born Ireland to a human and elven couple.
They took her to a back alley chrome shop and exchanged some favors for a working arm and eye and taught her the ropes of biking. She loved it;
the thrill of riding and the feel of being something more than just her flawed physical form filled her with a sense of power and freedom.

After thinking about it I also decided to also take the Distinctive Style negative quality (5pts) considering that she is a short, blonde elf with a cockney accent in Tokyo. I used those extra points (plus some shuffling of my skills) to make the following changes:

  • Intimidate -1 rank; gained Specialization (Mental)
  • Gunnery +1 rank
  • +15,000 Nuyen

I spent the extra nuyen like so (mostly on my bike):

  • Engine Rebuild (Overmodification): +20% Speed
  • Run Flat Tires
  • Upgraded the security; see below
  • Purchased 2 Rating 4 Stim Patches
  • Also expanded her music collection to include 300 chips

Bike Security:

[-]Maglock 3 -> Maglock 6 with Tamper Resist Circuits (Rating 4)
[-]Added Biometrics to the Maglock: Voice and Palm Print
[-]Replaced the standard RFID tag with a Security RFID tag
[-]Replaced the standard Encrypt 3 rating of the vehicle node with Encrypt 6

If any of those changes or modifications aren't kosher let me know and I will correct. Also would it be helpful to you if I scanned a copy of my actual print character sheet and emailed it to you? Or is that overkill?

Liberty's Edge

@Abraham:

How much are looking at spending? Since your story mentions racing at around 200kph you'll probably want to start with a Suzuki Mirage.

Also as far as weapons are you thinking more along the lines of gun(s) or spy toys like oil slicks, spiked road strips, etc and how many?

To give you some perspective a Suzuki Mirage has a capacity for mods of 6 and most modifications take 1 - 2 slots. You can work in mods over that capacity by paying double (at GM discretion).

Anyhow pick a bike from the SR4 Core Book and give me an idea of your budget and preferences and I will work up something for you if you like.

Let's start with a Mirage, I've got about 20,000 I can spend on it. I'm wanting speed, maneuverability, and survivability first. The bike is still his first one and it needs to be legal as much as possible (as that's when he built it). A tar launcher or smoke grenades and the like would be more his speed, maybe a single light weapon. If I end up needing more I'll juggle the points around a bit more.

Liberty's Edge

See if this works for you

Suzuki Mirage 6,500
Handling: +2 (+2 another two against rolls that could result in a crash on failure)
Accel.: 20/50 (+20 when using nitro)
Speed: 240 (+40 from Engine Customization)
Pilot: 1
Body: 6
Armor: 4
Sensor: 1

Vehicle Equipment

    Run-Flat Tires 500 (250 * 2 tires)
    (1) Oil Slick Refill 50

Vehicle Mods

[-]Motorcycle Gyro Stabilization slots: 1 | cost: 1,800 (Body * 300) | effect: +2 handling in situations where failure might cause a crash
    [-]Engine Customization (Speed) slots: 2 | cost: 6,000 (Speed * Body * 5) | effect: +20% base speed
[-]Nitrous Injection slots: 1 | cost: 2,500 | effect:Comes with 6 charges; every combat turn it is used consumes 1 charge. During a turn in which
nitro was used Acceleration is increased by +20. After the 2nd round (and every round thereafter) of continuous use the vehicle suffers damage equal to the total number
of Combat Rounds that the nitro has been in use times 2 -- this damage can only be resisted by the vehicle's Body.

[-]Oil Slick Sprayer slots: 1 | cost: 500 | effect: 6 charges (refill for 50); activate as a Free Action to spray a slick that created Hazardous Terrain behind
you. Raises the threshold of all vehicle tests by +2.

[-]Personal Armor Rating 4 (Overmodification) slots: 2 | cost: 4,000 (2,000 x2 for overmod) | effect: Used this to simulate a covered bike for you; will add it's
rating to any damage resistance tests for damage dealt to you from outside sources while you are "inside" the vehicle.

Total Cost: 19,350
Slots Used: 7/6

This vehicle should be reasonably legal; although the Oil Slick launcher was 8F so that may be questionable. It was the highest Availability item purchased in this build.

Nice -- and since it's an internal combustion engine I can even hide the oil slick as 'equipment failure' on the engine.

Any chance of getting some compartments or system redundancy ('secondary systems', back up systems... whatever they call it in shadowrun) and how much would I need to free up?

The compartment is the more important of the two so I can keep tools with me on the bike.

Liberty's Edge

Well; an un-shielded (i.e. - doesn't protect against scanning) Smuggler's Compartment would cost 3,000 on your bike (base 1,500 x2 for overmodification) and takes up 1 slot. The amount that will fit into it varies by vehicle and really is up to the GM.

As far as redundant systems there really isn't much (that I see) that would bump the physical condition monitor of the vehicle. There are self repair systems but those would be quite expensive. The best option might be just to improve the actual armor rating of the vehicle itself.

A vehicle can have up to twice it's Body in armoring. This would also be an overmodification. The most Armor you could outfit onto your Suzuki Mirage (Body 6) would Armor 12. That would cost 4,800.

(Rating 12 * 200) x 2 for overmodification = 4,800; and takes up 1 slot.

All right, good to see everyone getting close to done. All builds look good so far, though I haven't gone through them with a fine tooth comb yet. A compartment would be fine to hold a tool-kit.

I would love some feedback on my skills, if anyone thinks I can prune them down I could definitely find a good use for the saved points. I noticed that most other players went with much fewer skills than I did... is that normal for SR4? I keep looking at skills to cut, then considering that it just wouldn't fit the character to have to default on a gymnastics check or not be able to navigate his way through the city without a map, or follow someone without being noticed, etc.

This still open? I would love to join up with Shadowrun, I've always wanted to play it. Sadly a lot of the groups dissolve before game time and I never get to use the characters. If it's still open I'll start on my character ASAP.

@ loimprevisto:
I bought skill groups -- skill groups cost 10 points per rank but covers 3~4 skills in the group. My mechanics skill group for example covers:
Aeronautics Mechanic
Automotive Mechanic
Industrial Mechanic
Nautical Mechanic

While my sorcery skill group covers:
Counterspelling
Ritual Spellcasting
Spellcasting

You can't upgrade the individual skills though and you can't take specialties in your skill group, but it's cheaper than buying the skills individually. Finally you are limited to a maximum skill of 4 for a skill group at start up.

For you I would suggest the following skill groups:
Athletics group
Outdoors group
Sorcery group
Conjuring group
Stealth group

If you take 2 ranks in each of those groups it would cost you 100 points, but would get you 17 skills at rank 2 (which would normally cost 136 points).

Also if you want to be alright at a skill but good at a specific use just buy 1 rank and then take a specialty. This costs six points and gives you 1 general rank but 3 ranks in your specialty.

Liberty's Edge

@loimprevisto

After looking over your sheet again; it is clear they are a skill heavy character. For a character that needs/wants to have a lot skills it is very costly not to use skill groups. The single best suggestion I can give you is think about getting away from specializations and spend on skill groups instead. I found two groups that you could save big on. See below:

Climbing 1 (freehand)
Gymnastics 2
Running 1 (sprinting)
Swimming 1
------------
Cost: 24

Con 2
Ettiquette 2 (media)
Leadership 2
Negotiation 0
--------------
Cost: 26

Compare this to using skill groups:

Athletics 2
Climbing 2
Gymnastics 2
Running 2
Swimming 2
--------------
Cost: 20

Influence 2
Con 2
Etiquette 2
Leadership 2
Negotiation 2
--------------
Cost: 20

Switching to skill groups in just these two areas would save you 10 BP all by itself. There's a lot you can do with that; including maybe bump one of those groups up to level 3. You can't specialize with skill groups and you can't bump up an individual skill without breaking up the group; but they make up for that by being very very cost effective.

Liberty's Edge

ha ha ha; beat me to the punch =) Good work Abraham
