Rhiannon d'Deneith
Her head snapping up towards the balcony Rhiannon's shield comes up before her, her voice a clarion call of command.
"Ranged attacks! Drop him, but HOLD YOUR GROUND!"
DM
Held action. Granting all allies her teamwork feat. Almost all allies are currently adjacent to her and at least a few others.
Duck and Cover (Teamwork)(grant all alies within 30'/3rnds)
Your allies assist you in avoiding certain attacks.
Benefit: Whenever you are adjacent to an ally who also
has this feat, and both of you are required to make a Ref lex
saving throw against a spell or effect, you may take the
result of your die roll or that of your ally (your modifiers
still apply to the roll, regardless of which result you take).
If you take your ally’s result, you are knocked prone (or
staggered on your next turn, if you are already prone or
cannot be knocked prone). In addition, you receive a +2
cover bonus to your AC against ranged attacks as long as
your ally is wielding a shield.
Bubluka
Bubba pulls out a short bow and shoots at one of the figures on the balcony. (X).
Ranged attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Note: Bubba is not doing Inspire Courage this round; he only has two rounds left for the day and is saving it until next round when everyone has engaged the figures on the balcony.
Friar Feres
Feres' Action This Round:
OPTION 1: If Valgrim drops the remaining zombie, Feres will take a 5-ft step to square AF-11 while drawing his wand of Cure Light Wounds. Standard action to use wand of CLW on Valgrim: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6.
OPTION 2: If Valgrim DOESN'T drop the remaining zombie, Feres will take a 5-ft step to square AF-11 and slash at the zombie with his scimitar:
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Black Tom
Valgrim shreds the last zombie and Feres steps up to heal him. Bubba's arrow bounces off the woman's armor (she is wearing a half-plate), and she starts reading her scroll (triggering Vug's action).
Rhiannon shout for you to duck and cover, while Chisora delays.
Just waiting to resolve Vug's bomb before the bad guys act.
Black Tom
My bad, but I can't remember if you said there were stairs in here leading up to the balcony? Also. The grey area where Gz and G are situated, is that raised as well, or is that on ground level with us?
There are no stairs to the balcony. The grey area represents the Darknesseffect. It is on the ground level.
Black Tom
Vug's bomb hits the cleric, who curses as her spell is interrupted. She moves out of the cloud to face you. The other cleric (a hulking half-orc with a shaved head and a face crisscrossed with scars), who seems to be surrounded by a magical haze moves along the balcony to join her.
At the far end of the balcony, but out of sight, someone is chanting a spell. The guard steps out from behind the statue and fires his bow at Chisora but misses.
You're up.
Chisora
There are no stairs to the balcony. The grey area represents the darkness effect. It is on the ground level.
Thanks! :)
Seeing the arrow fly past her, Chisora decides to concentrate on the ground problem while the others deal with those on the balcony. She races forward to attack the guard that fired at her, although her aim is somewhat off.
Move to AI13 and attack with reach
Attack Guard with Scorpion Whip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Vug Vang
Vug throws a javelin at the female cleric. "Hey, how did you like my little f-f-flaming present, madam?" she jokes cheerfully.
with PBS: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 151d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
She looks a little crestfallen as her missile bounces off of the woman's armor.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Ok, going to try some superhero stuff, but since DM did state it wobbled precariously, hopefully that was a hint!
Realizing they have to reach that balcony, Valgrim moves to AI13 and using all his Strength and some divine help, tries to topple the statue onto the balcony between X and Y, assuming it reaches, to use as a ramp. Assuming it is a Strength check and will use a Hero Point to get +2 to roll!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Black Tom
By your combined efforts the statue topples and crashes into the balcony. The statue counts as difficult terrain if you're going to try to climb it.
Rhiannon and Feres delay.
After that, things happen very quickly. A gorilla with jet-black fur and glowing red eyes appears out of nowhere, jumps down from the statue and claws at Feres for 5 points of damage. A third cleric appears at the far end of the balcony and summons a flying chain that strikes at Chisora but misses. The female cleric casts a spell and you are filled with misgivings Will 14 or take a -1 to hit, while the half-orc starts climbing down the statue.
You're up. New map.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5...damn
"That's a big-ass ape! Concentrate on it! Bub, we need your inspiring words!"
Valgrim delays till after Bub. Then he wades in, moving to AG11, taking the AoO if the creature has reach.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26;Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Confirm critical: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23; Additional damage: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (7, 6) + 10 = 23
Total damage on ape: 36!...needed that!
"Feres, heal us."
Chisora
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Happy that the others can get upstairs to attack the growing number of enemies, but still wanting to finish off the guards down on the ground level before she heads up.
Attack Guard with Scorpion Whip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Friar Feres
Will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Heeding Valgrim’s request, Feres steps back next to Vug and channels the power of the Healing Flame. A burst of divine radiance springs forth from the priest to wash over everyone within thirty feet.
5-ft step back to square AD-12. Standard action to Channel Energy to heal, which does not provoke AoO:
Channel Energy (Healing): 1d6 ⇒ 1 EDIT: Well THAT helps a lot!
BTW Valgrim – did you catch that Feres healed you for 6 hp using the wand 2 rounds previous?
EDIT 2: Personal spells in effect - Shield of Faith (total AC 17); Guidance
Valgrim Twin-Axe
BTW Valgrim – did you catch that Feres healed you for 6 hp using the wand 2 rounds previous?
Yes, thanks, I am currently missing 1 hp after your Channel Energy, depending on the AoO.
Rhiannon d'Deneith
Will save 1d20 ⇒ 11
The sensation of doubt floods Rhiannon's brave heart, yet she carries on. She levels her blade at the ape for a moment, a challenge issued as she locks eyes with the beast and strides forward striking.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Black Tom
The ape claws at Valgrim as he approaches but he easily parries. Then he brings his axes to bear with devastating effect, cutting clean through the ape that vanishes in a puff of noxious vapors.
Vug's javelin bounces off yet again and so does Chisora's whip and Rhiannon's sword. Since Valgrim killed the ape, I took the liberty of redirecting Rhiannon to the guard, since she can't reach the cleric in a single move anyway. Feres staunches the bleeding of some of you.
Then the immaterial chain strikes Chisora for 2 points of damage, the female cleric casts another spell on Valgrim. Will 14 or become shaken, -1 from Bane, which was her last spell.
The half-orc climbs down the statue and takes a swing at Rhiannon but misses, while the third cleric conjures a burst of horrible wailing. Chisora, Bubba and Rhiannon each take 1 point of damage. Also Fort 15 or be stunned for 1 round.
You're up.
Rhiannon d'Deneith
Fort save1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Rhiannon barely flinces as the sound impacts her body, her shield coming up to deflect the half orc's blow with practiced ease.
She locks eyes with him a wordless moment known to all seasoned warriors as she expresses her will, a challenge to the death in defense of their causes, drawing her enemy's focus and attention.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
She strikes, not overly fast or stylish but with a precision that would do any swordmaster proud, the blade dipping at the integral moment to evade her opponent's defenses.
Due to Rhiannon's challenge all allies gain +1 to hit the half orc
Chisora
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Chisora raises her whip to strike at her opponent again but is overcome by the horrendous wailing and drops it, clutching her hands to her ears in pain.
Bad news is she drops her Scorpion Whip and her AC drops to 12, which isn't good considering she's only on 7 hps. :(
Friar Feres
Action editted because original posting depended on Chisora succeeding on her save vs. the wailing sound spell.
"Chisora!" Feres calls, seeing the inquisitor overcome by the evil priest's spell.
The stout priest rushes over and heals some of the inquisitor's wounds with his healing wand.
Move action to square AG-13. Standard action to use Cure Light Wounds wand on Chisora: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Vug Vang
Out of javelins and unsure whether she wants to use another bomb, Vug moves a bit closer to the female cleric while drawing her sword, and then throws her sword at the woman!
with PBS, throwing it as an improvised weapon: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 81d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
The bizarre missile clatters uselessly against the wall.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Valgrim shakes his head, thinking to himself, Gotta love the elven throwing the sword tactic! How has she survived all these years?
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 1 + 2 = 11 (+2 for dwarven resistance)..failure!
With fear in his heart, Valgrim knows he should flee but he cannot abandon his companions! He moves to AI13 and takes a swing at the half-orc.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 - 3 + 1 = 18; Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Black Tom
The half-orc is under a Blur effect, but your blows strike true. Rhiannon manages to hurt him, but Valgrim's axe bounces off his unnaturally thick hide. Then Bubba's whip tangles the warrior and he falls prone.
The immaterial chain swipes at Chisora for 4 points of damage. The priest on the balcony shouts something to the guard in Infernal, then casts a spell at Rhiannon Will 15 negates. The guard awaits the result, and so do the other two clerics.
This might be a good time to use Hero points if you have any.
Need Rhiannon's save and then the rest of the baddies.
Black Tom
Ouch!
Rhiannon suddenly freezes in place, immobilized by the foul magic, and the guard profits by the occasion to cut her throat, causing 17 points of damage. She must make a Fort 27 save or die.
The half-orc rises with a horrible smirk (granting Valgrim an AoO) and lashes out at the valiant dwarf with his flail for 7 points of damage, while the female cleric gingerly moves down the statue and unleashes a flash of unholy energy (including her allies) for 4 points of damage (Will 13 halves).
You're up.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
DM, that last roll to attack was a 19 not 18 on the half-orc if it makes a difference, forgot to add the +1 from Inspire Courage. If it's too late, that's fine also.
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 - 3 = 2..ouch! Missing either 5 hps or 12 hps depending on whether or not the half-orc survives the AoO and the negative energy the female cleric just hit him with!
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 3 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 3 + 4 = 29; Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 (+1 from Inspire, +1 from Rhiannon, -3 spells, +4 prone half-orc)
Spells in effect: Shield of Faith (AC 20), Inspire Courage (+1/+1), Bane (-1), Shaken (-2)
Black Tom
Rhiannon expires with a gurgling sound. The half-orc looks pretty badly battered but is still fighting. On the other hand the female cleric succumbs to Vug's bomb.
Valgrim, Bubba, Chisora and Feres still to go.
Sorry about Rhiannon, but if priests of Zon-Kuthon won't fight like vicious bastards I don't know who will. Mark, head over to the discussion thread if you're interested in making a new character.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
Did Valgrim hit with the AoO? If he did, that's 25 damage total from him and Rhiannon and then the Channel Energy did 2 or 4, depending on whether the female cleric had Selective Channeling. Did he grunt when she cast it? Just making sure you got all the damage. And Rhiannon really died, throat cut?
Valgrim delays to go last, though he does say, "Friar, some healing please!"
Friar Feres
Will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Feres is shocked to see Rhiannon so brutally murdered by the guard. With an incoherent cry of rage, he channels the power of his Goddess to send a burst of healing energy into his remaining friends. He then moves to stand protectively in front of Chisora. Unfortunately, Feres doesn't have Selective Channeling yet, so EVERYONE within 30 ft of him is healed.
Standard action to Channel Energy (Healing): 1d6 ⇒ 6
Move action to move to square AI-14.
Personal spells in effect - Shield of Faith (total AC 17); Guidance.
+1 competence bonus to attack and damage rolls and +1 morale bonus to saves against charm and fear effects from Bubba's Inspire Courage.
Currently -1 penalty to attack rolls and saves vs. fear due to failed save against evil priest's Bane spell.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
If still up, Valgrim goes for the half-orc, dropping one of his waraxes and swinging the other one 2-handed.
1d20 + 7 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 3 = 21; Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
If down, apply attack to guard who killed Rhiannon!
Black Tom
Sorry, added up the damage wrong. The half-orc did indeed succumb to the AoO. That means that Valgrim strikes down the guard with his attack. Not helping Rhiannon, though, and she would need at least 5 hero points to save herself.
Chisora is up, then the evil priest.
Vug Vang

I don't want to argue this into the ground, but doesn't the AoO occur before the action that provokes it (the coup de grace)? If the guy's dead, I'm not sure how he can finish his action.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
** spoiler omitted **
The half-orc cleric didn't kill him, Vug. I believe the guard killed him.
Valgrim Twin-Axe
"Whoever you are, dark priest, your magic allowed my companion to die...prepare to meet Pharasma!" Valgrim looks to his cleric."Father, could you remove this unnatural fear I have in my heart, so I can go bury me axe in that evil priest's chest?" Will suppress the shaken condition and the -2 penalty I have!
After the spell, Valgrim double moves the difficult terrain of the statue to AI9, gripping his waraxe in 2 hands.
Spells in effect: Shield of Faith (AC 20), Bane (-1), Shaken (-2).
Friar Feres
Valgrim looks to his cleric."Father, could you remove this unnatural fear I have in my heart, so I can go bury me axe in that evil priest's chest?" Will suppress the shaken condition and the -2 penalty I have!
Valgrim, I'll use my standard action this round to activate my Pearl of Power to recall the Remove Fear spell that I prepared for this day - I burned it earlier to spontaneously cast Cure Light Wounds on someone. Once I recall it this round, I can cast it on you next round - I can cast it on you from up to 30 feet away.
Feres retrieves his Pearl of Power from his belt pouch (Move action) and uses its magic to recall the Remove Fear spell that he used earlier in the dungeon (Standard action).
Personal spells in effect - Shield of Faith (total AC 17); Guidance.
Currently -1 penalty to attack rolls and saves vs. fear due to failed save against evil priest's Bane spell.
