Hrm, that seems to be going around these boards. I think it might be in the water around here.
That's what you get for sharing dice.
Likely no post tomorrow night (I may get to it during the day, though). #Meeting a real life pathfinder group at a new game shop. Wish me luck!
Viscount Corneleous Ornelos |
The DM is using a homebrew world; the group is heavy with elves and humans. I took the arcane role as a gnome evoker. Some people just want to see the world burn...

My word, many many apologies for the delay... this week was crazy. Things are getting better though at work, so I'll be able to post with more frequency.
I'm to catch up and post later tonight.

Hey folks,
My apologies, and no its not serious but I appreciate the thought. Just been busy with end of term stuff, though today was the last day of classes.
In any event, I'll catch up on the posts this evening and get back into the swing of things. Again, my apologies... shouldn't be doing that.

Hmm It's safe to say you've got a little more than starting gold at this point. I haven't been too free with money yet. You've got a big payment coming in 28 days from the professor's estate. Also, you could probably get a loan from Kendra.
I would assume you could buy the holy water.
Awnara Puddyfoot |
OK, so it looks like we can ask the Piper a question. I think we should ask him something along the lines of: "Why are you and the rest of the spirits at Harrowstone not at rest?" Would anyone like to make any refinements to this?
Vachordi Strong Wind |
maybe only ask about him. What if they have different reasons? Otherwise i think it is good
Awnara Puddyfoot |
Oh! Now, that's a better idea. We don't know what might happen if we contact the spirits of the prisoners, but the Professor would probably be a much safer initial contact as we feel out how this thing works. So, let's start with him. Now, what do we want to ask him? Can someone do a summary of what we know from the disparate clues we've accumulated?
Shel Whispertongue |
I think that post the DM made about his journal/library info would be the best place to start. Unfortunately, I have no idea where it is located at in the game thread. DM, I wouldn't suppose you know the general time frame of that post, do you?
Edrik Nobel |
I've re-posted the journal entry from the Professor (originally posted on Jan 12th) if that helps.
Ten Years Ago:
The Whispering Way is more than just a cabal of necromancers. I see that now. Undeath is their fountain of youth. Uncovering their motivation does not place me at ease as I thought it might. Their desire to be eternal simply makes them more dangerous.
Two Months Ago:
It is as I had feared. The Way is interested in something here in Ravengro. But what could it be?
One Month Ago:
Whatever the Way seeks, I am now convinced their goal is connected to Harrowstone. In retrospect, I suppose it all makes sense—the stories they tell about the ruins in town are certainly chilling enough. It may be time to investigate the ruins, but with everyone in town already being so worked up about them, I’d rather not let the others know about my curiosity—there’s plenty of folks hereabouts who already think I’m a demonologist or a witch or something. Ignorant fools.
Twenty Days Ago:
It is confirmed. The Way seems quite interested in something—no, strike that—someone who was held in Harrowstone. But who, specifically, is the Way after? I need a list of everyone who died the night of the fire. Everyone. The Temple of Pharasma must have such a list.
Eighteen Days Ago:
I see now just how ill prepared I was when I last set out for the Harrowstone. I am lucky to have returned at all. The ghosts, if indeed they were ghosts (for I did not find it prudent to investigate further) prevented me from transcribing the strange symbols I found etched along the foundation—hopefully on my next visit I will be more prepared. Thankfully, the necessary tools to defend against spirits are already here in Ravengro. I know that the church of Pharasma used to
store them in a false crypt in the Restlands at the intersection between Eversleep and the Black Path. I am not certain if the current clergy even know of what their predecessors have hidden down below. If my luck holds, I should be able to slip in and out with a few borrowed items.
Seventeen Days Ago (by your calculations, right before the Professor died):
Tomorrow evening I return to the prison. It is imperative the Way does not finish. My caution has already cost me too much time. I am not sure what will happen if I am too late, but if my theory is right, the entire town could be at risk. I don’t have time to update my will, so I’ll leave this in the chest where it’ll be sure to be found, should the worst come to pass.
Shel Whispertongue |
How about asking him who in the prison the Way was after.
We also need to see about transcribing those symbols he mentioned. There MIT be someone at the temple that can decipher them..
GM: Twice Dead Professor |
There's no guarantee that you'll get the professor's soul, unless you have some prior knowledge of how to grab him from his plane of afterlife restitude (if, in fact, he has moved beyond). As of yet, we've not encountered the ghost of the professor (if he is a ghost, moved on to the afterlife, or is trapped himself...)
The planchet will grab any receptive spirit. The ones in the mansion might know what's going on at the prison- but the prison spirits would be a better chance (albeit a bit more risky!).
I'm glad this is PBP because my pokerface isn't that great for your question discussion!

Cutscene: the Sheriff Caeler report.
YOU SNUCK INTO HARROWSTONE? You fools! Do you know how dangerous that place is? I've written to Caliphas dozens of times to get experts here, and I know the church has as well. I have a report from the last inspection by the church here somewhere... He rummages through the mess of papers stacked on a chair near his desk, destined for the rubbish bin. Finally he holds out a dusty scroll.
Reading off of it, the sheriff saysAccording to our estimations, the ruins of Harrowstone are haunted, but do not present a significant danger to the nearby town. Hundreds of souls are trapped, yet they seem to be confined to the influence of the grounds. We suggest a high fence, restrict access to the site, and a re-evaluation in a decade. The report is dated from over 20 years ago.
After Vachordi's explanation, he sighs and runs his hand through his thinning hair. You lot seem fairly capable, but I simply don't have enough evidence to convince the council to act. Gibs is off his rocker; he always has been. He, like the rest of the town, blame the unrest on the necromancy of your dead professor. And here you are, stirring up another hornets nest. Word of this might make the town lynch you on the spot, and me as an accomplice. I can't sanction your suicide mission back into that place.
He pauses.
On the other hand, I can pretend we haven't had this conversation. Trust me when I say this: neither me, nor my men, nor any of the town will repeat the favor we did for your professor- retrieving his body was the last time anyone here will set foot on those accursed grounds. Go. Don't go. I don't want to know. Anyone that dies there will stay there. Don't tell me anything until you've got some evidence that the mishaps in town are being caused by some cult, or the grounds acting up themselves.
