GM Elberion |
As Shalelu nears the top of the tower, she can hear two goblins talking animatedly.
Do you want to go over the battlements?
GM Elberion |
Yes, the construction is full of loops and handholds. It would take another climb check, plus a stealth check. You can hear two voices.
GM Elberion |
As you speak goblin, you can tell that these goblins are very focussed on their game, which might let you surprise them.
Shalelu Andosona |
stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Lelu quietly latches the rope firmly around near the edge of the tower before tossing it back down to the others holding a finger up to her lips. Once the group starts climbing, she draws her blade and tries to quietly go over the lip of the tower and rush the two goblins.
stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
damage: 1d10 + 2 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 + (4) = 15 4 less damage if I was noticed coming over the lip, or tying the rope.

GM Elberion |
Shalelu vaults over the parapet and draws her sword, slipping like silent death behind the goblins, she slays the first while he is still choosing a card.

goblin bronzebold is up!
Akuleh Speaks With Ancients |
"Where did she go," Akuleh asks the others as Shalelu disappears over the lip of the parapet. "Should we start climbing?"
GM Elberion |
If you start climbing, roll initiative. Those with a negative climb score should also make a climb check.
Kadrian Deverin |
Cayden, be with me!
Kadrian begins to make his climb up the tower.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Shalelu Andosona |
sorry, she motioned for you to start climbing, but to do so quietly. I also forgot favored enemy effects to hit rolls too... lol.
Shalelu rolls forward, slicing the head off of one of the goblins before spinning around with the moment, trying to hit the remaining goblin while it was still caught off guard and before it could shout.
attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
damage: 1d10 + 2 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 2 + (2) = 16
lets hope that is enough to hit FF AC XD.
GM Elberion |
Caught off-guard, the second goblin falls to Shalelu’s flashing blade.
combat over. The goblins have crude horsechoppers and leather armour.
They have 42 copper pieces between them and a pack of 43 mismatched cards
Akuleh Speaks With Ancients |
Akuleh calls on his ancestors to guide him as he attempts the climb after Kadrian.
Cast Guidance then give this a shot
Climb, ACP, Guidance: 1d20 + 2 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 4 + 1 = 17
Rak Opal |
Climb DC 0: 1 + 3 = 4
Rak takes up the rear, climbing slowly and cautiously. He grins and nods at Shalelu when he arrives. "Well done. Let's gather up that coin they got and make our way in."
Is there a trapdoor or other way into the tower?
GM Elberion |
Apologies. Rak eyes a trap door, made from an old porthole cover, leading to stairs.
Akuleh Speaks With Ancients |
"Well done indeed," Akuleh agrees with Rak as he crests the wall and finds Shalelu seated over her kills. "Yes, let us hurry onward."
Before disappearing down the trap door after Rak, Akuleh tries to take a sneaky peek over the inside of the wall to see what they might be facing further in.
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 7 -4 from ACP if that would apply to me just trying to take a quick look over the wall
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
GM Elberion |
The whole place is roofed with thick wooden shingles. Only the two watch towers are different.
Rak Opal |
Rak checks the trap door for traps, then opens it and peers inside if no traps are found.
Perception, traps: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Perception (darkvision 60'): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
GM Elberion |
The stairs are not trapped and they lead down to a chamber the same size as the tower, with a single door to the west.
A few damaged, mismatched cards lie on the dirty floor at the bottom of the watch tower.
Kadrian Deverin |
The young noble follows the party, keeping his eyes peeled for sudden ambushes.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
GM Elberion |
Oops, I forgot there are two doors. See the map. So what's the plan? Split the party and both halves go charging through the doors shouting Leeeroy Jenkins?!
Rak Opal |
Rak cups his hand to his ear, catching Akuleh's eye with a nod towards the western door, then moves to the northern door himself, where he follows his own pantomimed suggestion and listens at the door after a brief prayer to Cayden Cailean for guidance.
Perception, guidance: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 = 20
GM Elberion |
Rak listens carefully at the northern door but hears nothing but his own breathing and the shuffling of his allies.
Akuleh Speaks With Ancients |
Akuleh joins the others in listening at the doors, starting with the door to the west.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
I'm more inclined to go through the western door I think. Seems like there's a better chance we'll be able to maintain some cover that way possibly and not bring the whole camp down on ourselves.
Rak Opal |
"I'm not hearing anything behind this door..." Rak says, pointing north. He looks unsure, and follows up with a mutter. "Door's probably real thick... can't be sure."
Unless the other Perception checks reveal a reason to avoid that direction, Rak is onboard with heading west.
GM Elberion |
Shalelu and Akuleh both hear sounds of shuffling and rattling from beyond the door. Shalelu makes out some goblin voices as well.
GM Elberion |
I think we will just go with the rule of two and head west. Are you going to kick in the door, be stealthy, draw certain weapons or cast any spells? Let's get beyond the pbp door-problem.
Rak Opal |
Door SOP for Rak: Perception +9, no Disable Device; Stealth +2 for travel at half-speed. Rapier and shield readied. Strength +3 for kicking down doors, but we should Stealth first, kick second. Rak is happy to lead the way through doors, or give way to Lelu (with that Reflex, wow!)
Akuleh Speaks With Ancients |
Since Shalelu is leading us ahead, Akuleh will give her some spiritual Guidance on her Stealth check moving forward. Other than that, I can hold down the back since I have reach and don't need to get quite as close to get into the fray.
Akuleh follows Shalelu through the western door, his longspear ready even as he tries his best to remain quiet.
Stealth, ACP: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2
GM Elberion |
Shalelu pushes opent he door noiselessly, disturbing a little dust which Akuleh inhales, resulting in an almighty sneeze.
The goblins beyond the door spin on their heels, crying out in the goblin tongue!

With the cry of alarm sounded, there's no need for subtlety. The dwarf rushes forward, rapier never wavering from in front of him.

Then it brings its rusty dogslicer to bear:

Behind it, the other goblin shouts excitedly, to a clamour from around the corner.

With what sounds like a horde of goblins heading his way, and no way to pull Rak back, Kadrian pivots to the other wall, sheathing his rapier, and drawing his crossbow, ready to use this 'bottleneck' to a strategic advantage.
Shalelu Andosona |
Lelu fires her bow off twice at the first goblin. If it falls, she aims her shot at the second.

"I was actually thinkin' to try to tumble through to the other side, but that was before the infantry arrived!" Rak chuckles, though tension is apparent at the numbers they face.
He strikes with his rapier, then tries to deftly step away and behind Akuleh.
