Carmina launches her spell and covers the three derro who bark out in surprise as the golden dust covers each of their bodies. They are able to keep the dust from getting into their eyes, however.

Horven's shot goes wide as the sparkly dust interferes with getting a good look at the furthest derro.

Gared eyes the scene (while holding his tongue) and realizes the ambush has completely caught the derro off guard. He sees an opportunity to fire at one of the derro...Feel free to take a shot here if you want Gared.

Carmina frowns when she notices that the derros have managed to avoid being significantly impaired by her spell. But not being one to give up easily, she starts performing the spells motions again, confident that her adversaries will run out of luck before she runs out of magical power.

While Carridan prepares to launch his magical bullets, Yamyra and Carmina cast spells to tilt the battle into their favor. Two of the derro find themselves trying to blink the dust out of their eyes, while the rest of you feel magical energy suffuse your bodies.

Horven shot wings the derro, who cries out in pain. However Fancy is unable to follow through on her blow.

Botting Gared per player request...

Gared drops the wounded derro to the ground sending him sprawling with a perfect shot, and continues his assault on the derro Horven plunked earlier, bruising him further. The two remaining conscious derro immediately move away from the enlarged eidolon, one of them staggering towards a door at the far end of the chamber while the unwounded derro weaves his way around Fancy and towards the spiral staircase.

As Yamyra's magics settle over him and one of the kidnappers dashes toward the doors, Carridan cracks his knuckles before loosing one of his magically infused stones.

Provided the derro doesn't fall, Carridan moves with startling speed to interpose himself between the fleeing dwarf and the door, drawing a gleaming sickle as he moves.

Carmina smiles triumphantly when her spell finally demonstrates its superiority over the derros' willpower. Not feeling that further spellcasting would be needed to be victorious, she proceeds to engage one of the derros in closer quarters, though, having noticed that Gared is using blunt arrows and even Fancy seems lacking in murderous intent, she opts to keep her claws hidden for now.

Move to BL 54 and PUNCH the derro. Provoking an AoO but hey, that's why we have healers, right? Right?

Fancy swings wildly at the derro who manages to duck under the blow, moving with the agility born of terror. However, he is not able to dodge Carridan's bullet which strikes him in the temple, causing him to stagger against the door.

Carmina rushes at the other derro and throws a wild haymaker at him, missing wildly. Horven takes advantage of the situation, nailing him with a well placed bolt. The derro, grinning evilly, swipes at the impetuous tiefling with his hooked club but her magical spell deflects the blow, protecting her from harm.

Carmina:
As you rush into the chamber towards the derro, you feel a tug from your pouch and feel a sudden urge to check this portion of the wall which lies in front of you. Oddly enough, the derro shows no reaction when he runs by it.

Gared moved forward slowly, firing his first arrow at the wounded derro, and then another two at the less wounded one.

Grand Lodge

Gared fires several arrows in succession, the initial arrow knocking the derro farthest from him down to the ground where he lies breathing shallowly. The next arrows target the derro Carmina faces and succeeds in wounding him further.

The derro shows no intention of battling you openly as he steps away from the tiefling girl and heads to the side of the spiral staircase futilely trying to take cover from Gared's withering fire.

It seems Carridan mastered the secret art of spontaneous invisibility this last round, as he no longer appears to be on the map! =P

Carridan watches as the other derro begins to flee but the ragged breaths of the one beside him draw his attention. Kneeling down beside the stunted creature, he does his best to staunch its wounds and preserve its life. "Perhaps you will answer some questions when you come back around, hmm?"

Carmina calls at the fleeing derro, letting him to have a few seconds of head start, before rushing after the dwarf-like creature again with the almost blinding speed provided by Yamyra's spell. "Too slow!" she taunts, ending her movement with a crudely perfomed, yet vicious kick towards the Derro's back.

Not taking the AoO, then Charging after the derro and attacking unarmed again.

His speed likewise enhanced, Gared closed with the monster in just a few seconds, loosing a blunt arrow at the creature as he arrived within just a few feet from it.

While Horven moves to block the derro from reaching the staircase, Carmina and Gared succeed in dropping the fleeing derro to the ground, unmoving.

Carridan looks over the derro and can see most of the damage is not life-threatening.

Due to the non-lethal damage suffered by the derro, none of them are in danger of dying but if you wish to interrogate them, you need to use healing magic at this point.

Horven draws the silk rope out of his pack and begins cutting off three 5 ft. lengths.

Since the DC for Escape Artist is the binder's CMB plus 20, someone else should tie them up because my CMB is +1.

Carridan bears the unconscious kidnapper from the door over to the others and nods approvingly, "That went well, I'd say. Now, what do we do with them after they're tied up?" He crosses his hands behind his back as he looks to the others, his tone friendly and his posture relaxed despite the sudden burst of violence they'd just endured.

Gared collected his blunted arrows and set them back in his quiver."We ought to see if we can't find the witch they were working for, and if there are any other of them. Mayhaps one would be helpful in telling us where the others are, and if there are any hostages being held somewhere."The dwarf dourly considered the scene for a moment, his brow furrowed.

Taking 10 on a perception checks open eyes and ears to any trouble or things of note in the room.

"We ought to be prepared for more trouble. Carridan, can ye see where those tracks we were following got off to?"

Carridan nods, then cringes as his search takes him nearer to the irritatingly bright fungus clinging to the walls. "Let's just be quick as we can at least, this light really is rather bothersome."

You all quickly gather the three unconscious derro and move them over to the wall next to the opening. Binding them securely, you check the rest of the chamber looking for any signs of additional derro. Fortunately, no one else troubles your search.

Carridan scans the entire chamber for tracks and quickly determines the derro tracks head four directions: the two doors in the western side of the chamber, the north door situated to the east of where you entered here, and the descending staircase along the western wall. He is not able to tell if any non-derro also traveled here as well.

Almost forgot...

With the situation having mostly calmed down, Carmina remembers again the tug she had felt pointing towards a part of the wall. "I think we should check this wall. I'm getting the feeling it's... Uh... Special?" She says, then goes on to examine it through both magical and mundane means.

Gared huffed in agreement as Carridan noted the uncomfort created by the odd light, but he strained his eyes to examine the wall Carmina was examining before reaching out with his rough hands to feel along the surface as he did so.

Gared is able to find the well-hidden stud which presses in easily, causing the secret door to swing silently inwards.

Shining your light source into the dark opening beyond, you peer inside. A curving stairwell shrouded in tattered cobwebs and a thick layer of dust extends into the darkness. A bulky cobweb-shrouded shape looms in an alcove directly to the east. It does not react to your light source or your presence.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 14:
The large bulky shape is a long-dead and well-preserved shriezyx—a monstrous, spiderlike aberration.

On being told this is a shriezyx, you recall the event in 4623 AR in which swarms of these creatures clambered up out of the Irespan to menace Magnimar—an event that caused the lord mayor to issue a ban on quarrying the Irespan’s stone.

"Well..." Yamyra replies a bit timorously. "We did encounter some a few days ago, above."
Looking about, "I think we might be better not to incite it before we are certain we have left no threats behind us however..." she adds leadingly as she nods in the direction of the other doors off the chamber above.

"I agree as well. It's obvious just from those thick webs that the kidnappers haven't taken any of their victims this way." He strides over to the north door east of the passage they entered by, "Should we try this door first maybe?"

Deciding to leave this area alone for now, Gared closes the secret door in case something lurks below there. Turning your attention to the north door, a quick check shows no locks or traps on it.

Opening it reveals a twenty-foot-square domed chamber containing a jury-rigged pair of low operating tables, complete with leather straps at both ends to hold the patients down.

Laying on one of the tables is a body. A closer look shows it is a hideous patchwork made of equal parts troglodyte, duergar, giant spider, and giant rat, but with the lolling head of a half-shaved dwarf bearing a gaping trepanation to the side of its skull. As you stare at it in horror and disgust, it starts to stir...

This looks like a carrion golem. Carrion golems are made from the partially decayed parts of numerous dead creatures—no two carrion golems are exactly alike in appearance. Most are created from the corpses of humanoid creatures that are then augmented here and there with parts taken from animals or other creatures. In addition to the normal construct traits, these are known to carry diseases.

Carmina frowns. There was obiviously something interesting happening in the room, but she couldn't see anything past Fancy's magically enlargened form. "Hey, would you mind, I want to see what's over there..." she starts saying as she squeezes past her companions, but falls silent when she finally gets there and sees the horrible sight laying on the table. "What the- I take that back, I don't think I wanted to see anything like that."

Move to BA61 and cast Chill Touch.

As Carminas casts her spell and enters the room, a foul disgusting stench washes over her and her stomach convulses as a wave of nausea washes over her. As the odor from the creature spreads, you all feel the urge to lose your breakfast onto the floor.

At this point, everyone needs to make a Fort save DC 12 or become nauseous.

The foul creature lurches to its feet and swings its arm at the tiefling sorceress, fortunately missing the impetuous girl.
