The eidolon moves into the freezing cold room, followed by Horven. The cold grows even colder the deeper you move inside. Horven's keen eyes does spy what looks like a patch of mold on the far wall, brownish in color, which appears to have been cultivated here judging by the shape of it.

At this point you are about 10' away from the patch of mold.

Leaving behind the freezing abattoir and the bedroom for the moment, you head down the stairs with Fancy leading the way. At the bottom you see the corridor head north for a short distance before opening into a large well-lit room. This large room is set up as a crude alchemical lab—planks laid over barrels and crates serve as tables, but the alchemical gear set up on these crude tables appears to be quite high quality.

Before you cane proceed further, movement catches your eyes from both sides. From behind one of the tables in the far end of the room you see a female derro looking up at you with an angry, almost chilling look on her face. She does not say anything to you instead reaching to her belt and then hefts a greenish vial readying to throw it at you!

Gared reacts with unbelievable speed and looses two arrows at the derro witch with the first arrow cutting a bloody furrow in her upraised arm. The second one flies harmlessly above her head. Gared grimaces in disgust at the lousy aim he showed there.

She ignores the bleeding cut and lobs the vial at the halfling in the front row. The vial shatters on Horven's body and soon the halfling feels a burning all over his body as the acid eats into his skin! Also the others next to him are splattered with the remains of the broken vial. Horven takes 10 points of acid damage this round...on round 2 he will take an additional 2 points of acid damage. Fancy, Gared, and Carmina will take 6 points of Splash damage (acid), Reflex save DC 16 for half.

Carmina advances to the entrance of the room and calls on her innate magic to wound her even further. The witch smiles briefly at the tiefling's display before crying out in surprise as the bolts strike home.

Yamyra moves cautiously into the room, her attention caught by movement her bonded companion saw earlier. Carridan's elemental emerges from the ground and swings at the witch, but the blow is deflected by the magical field. It does not prevent the storm blast from tearing into her skin. Fancy does not fare much better as she steps away from the witch and closer to the homunculi, which immediately flies behind one of the tables looking for some protection. Further searching of the room shows the alchemical equipment on the table constitutes a masterwork alchemist’s lab. Checking the two door in the north wall shows one used apparently has the derro's sleeping chamber judging by the large mound of cushions and blankets here. After Yamyra fails to determine anything from the headband, Gared examines it further. Judging by the moderate transmutation aura, he believes it affects the wearers mental acuity. It is a Headband of Vast Intelligence, with Knowledge (Arcana) as the associated skill.. The wand found in the treasure room is partially charged with the Spiritual Weapon spell 11 charges.

However, the lens and the scarab's properties elude you.

You return to the unconscious bodies of the derro which lay as they were when you first bound them, adding the unconscious female derro to the pile. A quick check shows the keys do indeed unlock the cell doors. It is a simple manner to get the three naked prisoners out of the cells and to the main chamber where you do manage to find some clothing for the poor souls.

How will you transport all seven bodies back to Magnimar?

Male Halfling Rogue 5; HP: 35/35; AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 15; Fort: +3, Ref: +9, Will: +3 (+5 vs Fear, +2 vs illusions); Initiative: +4; Perception: +20 (+2 vs traps), Passive Perception: 30

I'm not good with logistics, myself.

Shouldn't there be eight bodies? What happened to Fenster? If we can revive the other prisoners, hopefully they will be able to walk under their own power. That would leave us with only the Derro & Fenster to carry. Worst case scenario, we lash our spears together to make some travois & drag them back that way...

Carridan scratches the back of his neck at Yamyra's glance, unsure if he offended the slight halfling somehow. "Well, she did have the keys, so if she wasn't in charge of these kidnappers she was at the least trusted with keeping the prisoners. Perhaps the guard can learn anything else of import from her?"

Any ledger books or other sort of evidence that we uncovered that might point to why people were being kidnapped? Slave trade? Golem parts? Are we able to glean any idea?

Also, in terms of transporting the unconscious folk, even though I cna only turn into a medium sized animal, would that be sufficient to carry say, Fenster and the witch, draped across my back? Presuming I was something like a bear or somesuch?

@Yamyra: yes there are eight bodies. I missed Fenster on my body count.

@Carridan: You did not find any documentation as to what the derros were doing with their kidnap victims, but judging by the instruments you found earlier you are certain these people were being experimented on in various ways.

Also, changing into an animal is a viable option here, but you would be encumbered unless you pick a four legged animal like a donkey or mule.

Gared went to the prisoners and saw if there was anything he could do to rouse them.
