The Gathering Storm (4e)

Game Master Rev Rosey

I liked this one, but we lost half the players to real life at a time when I was heroically busy. It counts as an honourable failure on the roster - and the only game I've ever deliberately put on hiatus.

free action: Mark anything that comes out of it

As Tenja's hand touches the sarcophagus, the lid splits open. Standing in the swirling dust is an emaciated tiefling woman who looks more devil than humanoid and all dead. A red stone on an iron chain blazes on her chest.

"No one shall have the Wrathstone but me! You'll die, just like all the rest. Your souls will pay my way into Asmodeus's Court!" Her staff raises high, but already Kel's arrows are winging towards her, along with Urlag's chains.

female Dwarf Runepriest 6

For those that don't know Dominate effects there are two: 1. Dazed (you only get one action per turn, you grant CA, and you don't flank), and 2. The dominating being picks which sort of action you use, but they can only use At Will powers.

Thanks! I always forget to post that.

Male Tiefling Wizard 5

Arcana, what can I tell about her? 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29

"Nice technique. Shame you're trying to kill us all, I could have learned a few things. Xod, distract her!" At this point, an imp swoops down and strikes at the tiefling with it's barbed tail before disappearing once more.

Summon Imp in G9, then attack(vs Reflex, 5 ongoing Poison damage and the imp is invisible until my next turn): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 261d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

That move better be an encounter power or we're in a lot of trouble.

Poisonous herself, Agera resists Xod's poison, but can't avoid the initial blow.

Zareth's words give him enough time to take stock and assess their foe.

Spoilered for space -

Spoiler:

Medium natural humanoid (devil, undead)
Immune poison and disease
Resist 8 fire and 5 necrotic
Basic melee attack with staff deals necrotic damage and target is pushed two squares.
Basic ranged attack - on hit target slides two squares and makes a basic attack against an ally within range
At will] - Hellish wrath. Agera makes three basic attacks.
Immediate reaction - Grave Wrath when Agera is hit by an adjacent creature. Target is pushed 3 squares, is slowed and takes 10 ongoing necro (se both)
Rechargeable - Invocation of Wrath. Close burst 2. On hit target is dominated (se)
Recharges when bloodied - Wrathfire curse. Close blast 5. On hit target takes fire damage, slides two squares and makes an at-will attack against an ally in range. On miss, half damage and slide one square.

"The only thing I teach these days is how to die in one easy lesson. I help you channel rage towards each other." Agera's smile is not pleasant as she raises the stone around her neck and points it at Kith and Urlag.

"Little dwarf, kill the other little dwarf. Hulking orc-thing - just wrap up the cleric for me."

Kith, charge Tenja.
Urlag, basic attack against Andrus.

Actually, it was revised and clarified in PHB3 -- here's the paste from the Compendium. Close to the same thing, but more limiting.

Compendium wrote:

You can’t take actions. Instead, the dominator chooses a single action for you to take on your turn: a standard, a move, a minor, or a free action. The only powers and other game features that the dominator can make you use are ones that can be used at will, such as at-will powers. For example, anything that is limited to being used only once per encounter or once per day does not qualify.

You grant combat advantage.
You can't flank.

In spite of this condition, the creature’s allies remain its allies, and its enemies remain its enemies. (Thus, if the dominator makes the creature attack one of its allies, it does not attack an ally of the dominator.) If the dominator tries to force the creature to throw itself into a pit or move into some other form of hindering terrain, the creature gets a saving throw to avoid entering the terrain.

Unaffected by Agera, Kel concentrates on sending more arrows into her.

I don't know if Xod can make OAs, but let's assume he can.(vs Reflex) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Also, mind if I assume I had a dagger out or something, because I don't think you want me to throw my orb like a shot put. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Also, Andrus doesn't have any ranged basic attacks either unless he has his crossbow out.

"No one controls me. No one." Zareth glares at Agera with obvious malice as he instinctively sets her alight and sends Xod after her.

Infernal Wrath, 1d6 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 8 = 2 Fire damage, then move Xod to I14 and attack(vs Reflex, invisible until my next turn on a hit): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 161d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Agreed it's a somewhat rubbish power against casters, but them's the breaks. The slide is very nice.

Agera howls with laughter as Zareth tries to set fire to her. "Not only am I under the protection of Asmodeus, I was a tiefling, you idiot. Did it somehow escape your notice that I'm as resistant to fire as you?"

She turns her gloating attention back to Kith and Urlag. "So adorably controllable. Half-orc - remove that pestilential lucky cleric. Baldy - hit the other dwarf."

Internet at last, Lord god allmighty internet at last!

Kel keeps up the attack on Agera launching two more arrows at her but this time using his fire arrows.

1st arrow, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15, damage = 1d12 + 1d8 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (8) + 6 + (2) = 19
2nd arrow, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14, damage = 1d12 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (5) = 12

And Kel promptly misses his target completly.

Eyup and welcome back. Kel's been doing fine, bar nearly killing Andrus through no fault of his own.

Andrus nearly falls under Urlag's attack, but the half-orc manages to control a fragment of his mind long enough to divert the worst of the blow away.

Agera watches amused, shaking her head as Kel sends fiery arrows towards her. "I. Was. A. Tiefling. I resist fire," she shouts.

Very true on both accounts, i looked back my last 7 d20s were all less than 10 :), still about right, i am hoping for the good stuff once i break that save

Male Human Cleric 6

let's see if we can do something about that. First, command on Agera. +8 vs Will, 28! Crit, but I don't get any damage! So probably no bonus +1d6 radiant then, huh? Target is dazed and I make her move 6 squares back over here to J9. Minor- healing word on me(11+d6+4=19hp)move to L7. Action point- Sundered Fortune on Agera. +8 vs Will, 25, hit means that target takes -2 to attacks and takes 9 damage for every successful attack or save (save ends) target grants CA until EOMNT.

Andrus tells Agera, "Get over here!" with authority. Then he heals himself and moves into position.

"Never talk about my Lady again, foul one! You are hereby under her censure. Every success will cost you now. She will turn your good luck into bad. Never mess with Avandra, witch!"

Andrus then casts his most powerful spell on Agera.

Andrus, is the daze that goes with Command a save end?

Hauled towards the vengeful figure of Andrus, Agera does not resist. Rather she calls out. "Join me, brethren!".

From the corners of, ancient suits of armour stir and start to move.

Her staff held high, Agera once more sends her rays into the companions, urging them to hit each other. As her own attacks hit, Andrus's power comes into play and each blow sends wracking pain through her body.

Assuming you mean Twin Strike. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 262d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 71d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 222d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 71d20 ⇒ 14

Male Human Cleric 6

yes, dazed is save ends. did she take 9 more damage for the save that ended the effect? the spell description was specific on that point. dazed means one action, right? was the summon suits a free action or was it an interrupt?

Male Tiefling Wizard 5

"Are you so uncertain that you have to bring your minions into this?" Zareth thrusts his arms to the sky and flames explode from beneath the armors.

Scorching Burst(vs Reflex, Fire damage) on IA1, IA2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 131d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 111d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

If that wasn't resisted and they're minions(please say they're minions), spend an AP to repeat vs IA3, IA4: (EDIT: Since that first one missed entirely, I'll do this anyway) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 221d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Also, I grant CA until the beginning of my next turn and Xod turns invisible and moves to K8, since I didn't command him.
