Uriel of Mendev

Uriel maintains a singular focus on destroying this evil creature. With Iomedae’s blessing, he continues to smite it with his glowing Longsword!
Longsword Smite Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 5 = 22
Longsword Smite Damage: 1d8 + 12 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 6 = 20
Longsword Smite Secondary Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 5 = 14
Longsword Smite Damage: 1d8 + 12 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 6 = 19
| Boudacia |
Boudacia shakes her head to clear it as the confusion that has been affecting her lift. She then replies to Ilyanaro, saying "Yes, it is an Aghash Div, very dangerous. They usually attack the most attractive of their foes, though I am not sure why. And true to form it is trying to kill Uriel."
Boudacia then attempts to put the Div to sleep with the Slumber Hex.
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam will attack the red-collared cat again.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Uriel again slashes the raggedy creature deeply and with a howl of pain it suddenly vanishes! (On the first hit.)
*************** Boudacia ***************
Since the Div is dead, I will take the liberty of putting your Slumber on the cat instead if that's okay?
Red-collared cat's Will save vrs Slumber: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Asleep
Suddenly the red-collared cat drops to the ground asleep.
*************** Lonam ***************
Since the cat is now prone & helpless, I will grant your attack as a Coup-de-Grace instead (Your attack would have missed otherwise!) & double the damage you dealt. The cat survives, so Fort save ...
Red cat's Fort save due to Coup de Grace, DC 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Fail
As Lonam strikes the cat slumbering at his feet it gives a shudder, and ceases to move.
COMBAT OVER! Out of initiative.
***************************************************************************
Uriel notices a pouch lying on the ground where the Div was standing. Upon investigating you find it has a handful of small yellow topazes. Six gemstones worth 200 gp each, so 1,200 Gp total.
As a reminder, you have a red lever on the eastern wall, a door to the south, and a door to the west.
What ya all doing?
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"More doors presents more opportunities to explore. Perhaps the southward passage should be our first opened."
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel looks at the remains of the combat in the room and wipes his sword clean on the pelt of one of the leopards. "What was that thing? All I could tell was that it was evil and creepy."
At Ilyanaro's suggestion, Uriel goes and investigates the next door.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
If he doesn't hear anything or detect any traps, Uriel will open the door once the others are ready.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"A div. Evil and angry are essentially the stock and trade for the whole race. Bitter and spiteful outsiders, if you think of all the bad stories parents tell their children about genies or faeries, you would not be far off on the div."
| Boudacia |
"It is an Aghash Div. They have resistance to most damages other than cold iron or good and an Aghash will usually attack the most attractive of possible targets. That is why it had it in for you Uriel." adds Boudacia, then continues, "And I agree Ilyanaro, southward seems as good a direction to explore as any."
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Sorry, sick on Saturday
Once Uriel opens the door you all see a familiar looking black curved wall of a turntable.
Uriel of Mendev
|
”Well, Ilyanaro, do we pull another lever or perhaps try the door to the west?” asks Uriel.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"We might as well open the other door. If there is another turntable, having a clear line of sight would prove useful to determining the position after pulling the lever."
| Lonam Asri |
"Do you want me to stand by and pull this extra lever in case Uriel needs to reset something?
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel will nod and head over to the other door. After checking it out and detecting for evil again, he waits for the others, then opens it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"We should remain in a group, away from rotating portals and doors. I would rather we do not become separated again."
| Boudacia |
"I agree Ilyanaro. Getting split up is potentially very dangerous, especially for you and I, who lack armour." replies Boudacia, who then moves up to join Uriel.
Boudacia Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam will move to stay with the group, hefting his morningstar in a manly fashion to reassure the casters.
Uriel of Mendev
|
As the scene of the door opening and the chamber beyond renders before him, Uriel instinctually waits for the omnipresent voice of the narrator to read the ‘box text’ before he reacts...
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Thanks Uriel! That was good!
As Uriel opens the door, everyone sees:
"Parts of this chamber look like they were recently excavated. To the southeast, a curving cylinder of green crystal — part of the Emerald Spire — fills a quarter of the room."
Near the southwest corner you see a small, pale yellow, humanoid with blank, bulging white eyes and gangly arms and legs, crouched down, excavating the wall with a small pickaxe. Next to him on the ground there is a large 'squirming' sack. He seems to ignore you all and keeps excavating the wall.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel focuses his “detect Evil” ability in the creature. Since it hasn’t reacted to him yet, he pauses a moment in case any of the smart ones wants to identify the creature.
| Boudacia |
Which skill is needed to identify the creature?

Which skill is needed to identify the creature?
No evil detected, Nature
Uriel of Mendev
|
When he detects no evil, Uriel looks over his shoulder and asks, "What manner of creature is that? Should I try talking to him?
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
Ilya recognizes this as a small earth fey, called a Pech. He also knows ...

that they are immune to petrification.

Boudacia recalls that Pechs have Pech Magic meaning that: Four pechs working together can cast wall of stone once per day. Eight pechs working together can cast stone to flesh once per day.
*************************************************************************
The sack lying next to the Pech continues squirming while the Pech itself simply continues excavating the wall.
| Boudacia |
"It is a Pech. Yes, we should talk to it or at least try to." replies Boudacia to Uriel's question.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Ilyanaro speaks up, first in common, then uncmdercommon and aklo if necessary.
"Hello. We mean you no harm, and do not wish to intrude on your endeavors. Are you willing to converse with us?"
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam peeks over the shoulders of the others to see what a Pech looks like.
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
There is no response or reaction to the queries made so far.
The Pech continues picking away, the bag continues squirming.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |

"Hello, in the bag. If you can speak or otherwise understand me, please let us know. I do not wish to interrupt important work, but kidnapping is quite unacceptable in polite society."
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel will pause a moment more, waiting for a response. If there is none, he will sheath his sword and walk into the room, asking somewhat loudly, "Can you hear me? Do you need any help?"
It is unclear if he is talking to the Pech or what might be squirming in the bag...

ANYONE SPEAKING: Please specify what language you are using, or just tell me 'all', if you are going to repeat it in every known language until you get a response.
| Boudacia |
"Hello. You are I believe a Pech. We come in peace."says Boudacia in Sylvan. She will repeat this in the other languages she knows until she gets a reply, or runs out of languages.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel was speaking in common. If the creature does not respond in any way, he is going to assume it is deaf or at least hard of hearing.
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam will use all his language skills to repeat what he hears from his partners. ( all languages)
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel approaches the creature cautiously, continuing his diplomatic overtures but not expecting a response from this obviously (to him) deaf creature. He tries to get into the Pech's field of vision from a distance, waving to get its attention. "Perhaps it can read lips," he thinks.
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam can speak and understand Azlanti, Celestial, Elven, Nagaji, Osiriani, Osiriani (Ancient), Sahaugin, and Tengu. His Linguistics skill is +9.

Apologies again. I'll post some details of delay in Discussion after this if you wish to read.
As various party members keep on talking away in various languages, the Pech continues ignoring all of you, ... until, Ilya speaks in Terran (Hello people?!? EARTH fey anyone?!?). When Ilya speaks, the Pech pauses for the briefest of instants, and then continues working while it responds in Terran, "Gundrun is busy. Gundrun must mine for the gold-faced man!", and it continues picking away.
EVERYONE: Please keep in mind that it spoke Terran, so unless you know Terran, all you heard was a very guttural sound, almost like rocks grinding I would guess?
ONLY for those who know Terran: Hmmm, Gold-faced man? I wonder who that could be? Has the party encountered any such creature? No one else should comment on this or I may penalize for meta-gaming!

Intelligence Check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Seeing the creature's mouth move and hearing some strange rock noises, Uriel yells, totally misinterpreting the situation, "It's a cave-in! I'll save you!" He rushes up and pulls the creature away from the crumbling wall and back into safety!

Unless someone/something stops Uriel, then I'll have to consider this as an attack because the Pech has no clue what Uriel is yelling or why he is charging at him! I shall allow some time for other players to post first just in case.
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam has no clue what transpired between Ilya and the Pech and can only assume that Lonam either does know or is just being a typical Paladin.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
to determine if Pech seems hostile in his speech or manner.
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
Ilyanaro steps between the pech and Uriel smoothly, continuing in Terran as he does.
"A gold faced man? Did he have a mechanical arm and leg, carry a staff similar to mine? I believe we might have encountered this man earlier yesterday."
He holds his hands out to the party in a calming gesture.
"He speaks of a good faced man, and is mining under his direction. Remain calm and I will continue to speak with him."
Uriel of Mendev
|
Uriel can't believe it! Ilyanaro is putting himself in the way of the cave-in, and the rocky sound is now getting louder, as if coming from two places!
Perception to see if the rock face is not collapsing: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Seeing the rock wall appear to be intact, Uriel slows down long enough for the words Ilyanaro speaks in (I assume) common to register. Confused, but not seeing anyone in immediate danger, he backs away slowly and watches the situation carefully.
| Boudacia |
"Very well Ilyanaro, you are the one who can speak his language."
Uriel of Mendev
|
"All I heard was rocks falling, what do you mean, Boudacia?" Uriel asks, turning to Ilyanaro and asking, "And how can you tell if a man has a good face?"
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
To Lonam the Pech's attitude seems basically indifferent? Maybe slightly irritated? It definitely does not seem hostile ... currently.
*******************************************************
I strongly suspect that Ilya meant to say 'gold-faced'. For sake of time & clarity the rest of the group should take it that way - unless Ilya actually meant 'good faced' as some sort of devious plan?!?
The Pech again responds in Terran - without skipping a single strike of his pick on the rocks - "Yes, gold-faced Klarkosh. Must excavate, must excavate, cannot stop!"
The sack continues squirming ... .
| Ilyanaro Balmaris |
"The gold faced man, Klarkosh, is no more. He attacked us with magic and automatons, and we slew him with blade and spell. If you were under his thrall due to threat or financial obligation, you are now freed. If you would not mind, who or what is in the sack. We search for another missing human wizard yet, and strongly hope to find her alive and well."
Yes, good=gold. Typo.
In common to the party: "He says that Klarkosh bade him excavate and dig. I just informed him the evil wizard is no more. I also asked about the satchel, perhaps it contains our missing person?"
| The All-Seeing Eye. |
The Pech barely glances at Ilya and in Terran responds, “This one serves the Great Master. But the gold-faced man needed Gundrun’s help.” and he continues excavating ...
The sack continues squirming ...
| Boudacia |
"The creature, or person, with the sack with something squirming in it, was speaking to us in a tongue unknown to me, but Ilyanaro understands and is talking to the Pech."is Boudacia's reply to Uriel.
Uriel of Mendev
|
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
It finally dawns on Uriel that the rocky sounds are some form of speech instead of rocks falling...and that he nearly derailed the whole conversation by charging in and trying to save the Pech from a non-existent rock slide.
He backs off a bit further after Boudacia's explanation, quietly saying "Sorry" to Ilyanaro. Red-faced, Uriel watches silently and tries to stay out of the way, not trusting his diplomatic skills being unable to speak the language.
| Lonam Asri |
Lonam moves closer to Uriel and decides to see how things unfold based on body language.
