So, I am sorry that I was late checking in, Mike! Right after coming back from SkalCon I had a fairly full plate of stuff to clear. I am still catching up, frankly.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!
I am still finalizing my character sheet because up until now, Charli was a GM baby. Charli has two adventures on her, Into the Unknown and Yesteryear's Truth. This will be the first time she's ever made anything other than an NPC appearance in a game... I sometimes have her sell tea to my Players while they are mustering and trying to get into character!
I am going to have to figure out what will qualify as a portable tea stand that I can purchase for her. Hotelier Tent? Or maybe just Professional Tools?
Hmm
The Dire GM

No worries! I more waiting for / wondering about the mysterious "Derek" who signed up and asked questions but hasn't checked back in since despite me answering him and emailing him. Either way, I'll post the briefing this evening. :)

Our 6th player will be ready to go late tonight, so look for the briefing in the vicinity of midnight eastern time. Looking forward to GMing this one for all of you! :D

Slotted boons listed in profile.
Does this scenario have any starship combat in it?
Charli Poshkettle
|
There's no need to slot your starship boons for this one.
(The Commencement is missing the Starship tag in its blurb.)
Hmm
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado
|
I didn't see anyplace that Yesteryear's Truth noted Starships in the blurb, but my understanding is it has Starship combat.
Dart Handman
|
The Blurbs don't have them. They are on the title page of the scenario. Which is annoying since players should know before sitting down. And it isn't "secret" info.
Kima Taglios
|
Kima I love the profile pic you found!
Thank you, I was aiming for something 'close' like since we don't really have starfinder icons yet for the message boards.
Sorry for the intro delay, between everytime I got to a computer Paizo being down and the great search for what does this race look like, before just pulling up the old pathfinder books.
The Dire GM
|
No starship combat in this one, sadly (I love starship combat!) This scenario is a repeatable one, however, with different level 1-2 characters each time.
Charli Poshkettle
|
I need to slot my boons still. If you all want to go do another mission first that is fine. Or we can roll a d4 and decide what we take first that way!
Hmm
Kima Taglios
|
I now have the image of Mikkazuki having the personality of the companion from SWtoR if you end up Jedi Councler I think it is. Just waiting for the Scorekeeper reference :)
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado
|
I haven’t played that. I did play through KOTOR a couple of times.
Trying to do an amalgam of various military people I know, only a little too eager to prove herself in battle. She will usually not be the one making jokes.
Dart Handman
|
Since Dart is last leaning towards seeing Fitch and the Wayfinders first, I suggest just doing them from the bottom up.
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado
|
Fine. Let's just move forward.
Mikkazuki doesn't care which is first. Let's just get one started.
Dart Handman
|
Just to put a stake in the sand. If anyone does not object to going bottom up by about 6pm Eastern (or some other time set by the GM) we can move forward.
Charli Poshkettle

All hail, Dire GM!
Some minor corrections. After discussing with Thursty, I realized that the math worked out at GenCon for Charli to earn the Worldwide Explorer boon while there. GM credits count! So I picked that up, which changed my fame and reputation.
I also bought with fame a Wayfinders First Contact Step-In boon just now, and have slotted it.
Prerequisites: Wayfinders Tier 1
Cost: 1 Fame
Benefit: When an ally fails a skill check during a first contact situation—specifically when encountering a previously undiscovered species—you can spend 1 Resolve Point to immediately attempt the same skill check. If the result of your skill check is greater than your ally’s failed attempt, use your result to determine the outcome. You can use this ability on any skill check so long as it relates to a first contact encounter. A common example would be using skills like Diplomacy or Intimidate on a newly encountered race, but attempting a Computers check to learn from an alien network about a new species would also be appropriate. Exactly when this boon can be used is up to the GM’s discretion.
______
After these two boons have been applied, here is where Charli stands.

Sorry for the delay on my end - rough last couple of days. But now we're off in reverse order! Boldly going forward ('cause we can't find reverse)?
Charli Poshkettle
|
Can everyone post, even if you have no computers skill, so that Dire GM knows that you've had a chance to act?
Thanks!

Oh yea! I forgot!!!
My PbP "table rules" -
0 - RL > Game. No other rules trump rule 0.
1 - I'd like it if everyone posted once a day Mon-Fri. Friday night through Sunday night is eh-whatever (I am in US Eastern Time, for reference). I'll try to post when I can over weekends, but I know people have lives and won't always be online, so no worries.
2 - If you don't post in the middle of an "action" scene for a day, you get skipped once (or botted if your action would be super obvious or you leave a note to me or another player "proxying" your character). If you don't post a second time, you get "botted" by me to do something simple (usually just attack or aid another). If we get into the 3-5 range, I'll probably drop you a line off-list to see what's up. If it goes on too long...well, I hate dropping people from games, but it unfortunately happens :(
3 - When you've got a saving throw to make, roll that first before posting anything else.
4 - Feel free to roll perception and sense motive whenever you want, and if you have a reroll, feel free to use that anytime as well.
5 - Have fun! Rule 5 trumps all other rules! :D

I also added a silly figure to represent Bob. Mikka may of course replace it with whatever image she likes.
Hmm
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado
|
I've left the one you put in there. Easier to make out than the avatar I am using for BOB.
Charli Poshkettle
|
That's part of the reason I picked that image. It reduces well and shows up great on most maps!
Hmm
Charli Poshkettle
|
It should be blue!
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
"What are you two talking about! BOB's mini has ALWAYS been blue!" Charli says innocently, her eyes shifting slightly to the side for only a fragment of an instant. "We must have just had a phase shift that made you think it was red, but now it's gone."
Dart Handman

Watch it BOB, or next time it will be concentric circles of red.
The Traditional "Leader Badge" worn on the left side of the torso.

See, this is why I went Wayfinders. I never understood why the Exo-Guardians insist on wearing those concentric circle leadership badges. They have great taste in tunes, though!

Unfortunately you cannot take 10 on a check to disable a trap.
My understanding was that although there were some changes to the Take 10 / Take 20 rules, in many cases you could still Take 10 on Disable Device. I’m still learning where they have changed things between Starfinder and Pathfinder. They do tend to put some exceptions in strange places, so it may be I have missed something.
Here are the rules as I understand them.
Most of the time, you attempt skill checks while under pressure or during times of great stress. Other times, the situation is more favorable, making success more certain. When you are not in immediate danger or distracted, the GM might allow you to take 10 on a skill check. When you take 10, you don't roll a d20, but rather assume that you rolled a 10 on that die, then add the relevant skill modifiers. For many routine tasks, or for tasks you are particularly skilled at, taking 10 ensures success. If you still fail when taking 10, you might require more time and energy to succeed at that task (see Take 20 below). Unless you have an ability that states otherwise, you cannot take 10 during a combat encounter. Also, you can't take 10 when the GM rules that a situation is too hectic or that you are distracted, and taking 10 is almost never an option for a check that requires some sort of crucial effect as a key part of the adventure's story.
The GM is can disallow it because of story. In general you can’t do it while in combat.
Note that the Engineering skill for Disable Device specifically calls out that you can’t Take 20 on a Disable Device attempt.
Is there something I’ve missed?
Or is it just I misunderstood and what you were indicating was not being able to do it in this case for special reasons?
Kima Taglios
|
I'm not Mike, but also added on to that, is if while taking 10, you still have the possibility of a negative effect it would be common sense to disallow the take 10, and require a roll. Because you have the possibility of succeeding vs. the auto fail if 10 + Mods may not be enough.
Dart Handman
|
And welcome to one of the longest running table variations debates of Society :) It always comes down to the question, "Does the existence of the trap present a stressful situation?"
As a player I have seen take 10 allowed and not allowed for disable device about as equally. As I GM, I rule that you can take 10. But I have had argument with VO's and other high start GMs that you should not.
Of course then I get the snot nosed investigators that can "Take 1" and still disable the trap.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with the little uppity Taldan noble that Lady Glorianna gracefully sent to all of you to keep you from coming back splatted, impaled, speared, toasted, melted, in a box, as a pile of dust or needing to be rescued from a dragon's stomach.
There is nothing wrong with being informed. See now aren't you glad I told you not to touch that.
<-- May play one of those snot nosed investigators, who's actually kind of fun and has interesting ways to overcome the weaknesses of the class. i.e. pay no mind to the clinking bag of things...and stuff.
The Dire GM
|
I generally don't allow taking 10 on traps since a failure by 5 or more sets them off, so for me there is a risk that makes it hard to just "casually" attempt.
It is indeed one of those "expect table variation" things, but in this case it is now a moot point, and we shall merrily move on :)

I can see that we're really a perceptive party!

Interesting timing. I had literally just finished talking with the player 3 minutes earlier asking if it was okay to bot the first round for Ch'aya.

Sort of a quick post-mourtum on the combat.
I was going over the surprise and flat-footed rule. Dart should not have had the flat-footed condition since he was going to act in the surprise round. Not that it mattered, since the beast was well above his AC.
When a combat starts, if a character is not aware of her
opponents, she is surprised......
Surprised Combatants: During combat, combatants who are
surprised at the start of battle have the flat-footed condition.
I got checked on this recently on a game I was running so I thought I would share since we are all still figuring out the subtle difference.
