sounds interesting but from what I've seen it would take an enormous ammount of prep and so many players always find loop holes around most things.
every pC submission would be required to go through tons of scrutiny before being alowed to play.
also recommend that everything about charcter be public. if it isn't in the alias the you don't have it.
I have other ideas to keep it a playable game if interested. unfortunately I don't have the spare time to run a game of that level.
I would be interested in playing though.

Gobo Horde |

Lol. Well I think its a neat idea, if this gets off the ground, I would love to play in it as well.
Epic characters? Hmmm. An epic viking focused on crits would be neat.
A brawler with 3 levels of horizon walker (for DD) that focuses on shutting down spellcasters. "go on, cast a spell. I dare you."
Human Invulnerable Rager. Immune to everything. High saves, save rerolls, high superstition, ghost rager, Sky high DR, loads a hps. "Cant touch this!"
Although I would not be able to DM, I have a good sense of rules knowledge and would be able to assist with the prep work, creation/modification of rules and streamlining. There is the base epic rules from 3.5 that would work well for the groundwork.
Again, if this takes off, I would love to be a part of it and assist in making it work :)

I might be able to get something up and running. I would need at least a little bit of time to hash-out the basics of the initial story and get some encounters prepared. Sadly, I cannot promise more than a couple of adventure of story arcs. I do have an IRL group that would like to do an epic adventure, but none of us have worked out how we would accomplish this and so we are on hold. This would give me some material and a chance to try a run at it to see what might need to be reworked.
My only question right now would be what style of suggested Epic play would you like:
1) Run similar to 3.5 Epichandbook?
2) Require that 20 for base/core classes is the max, and thus PrCs or multi-classing requied for advancing in level 21+
3) Other. I know there are some Epic 3rd party stuff for Pathfinder. I don't have any of them, and if there is one you guys would like to use that isn't too expensive, I can look into buying it.

So it looks like there are 5 of you. I'll get to work setting something up. I think 5 is a good number, but I should be able to handle a 6th member if someone would really like to join. Until I have a board set-up, you can talk here, pm, or e-mail me (I'll give out e-mail by PM for those that ask. I would rather not get excess spam as I get enough already). It might take me about a week to get things up and going. I have a RL gaming group (I only run 1 homebrew and also work in our Co-Op dungeon, but we have other campaigns that I play in) and also a private PBP forums we use. I will try to have the game set-up on these forums to make things easier for everyone.
I think that Option 2 would be the easiest to handle, because it requires no extra material and no need to lay out/discuss any weird progressions of certain abilities.
I assume that I should give you a little about my GMing and some information to let us all start off on the same page for the campaign.
First off, I started playing AD&D when I was 7 (found my dad's books). I have been playing through all the editions ever since (about 19 years) except for 4e, because my group switched to Pathfinder for compatibility (and then went almost entirely Pathfinder only). I will try my best to stick to RAW and RAI when I can and remove myself from alot of the house rules my group(s) tend to use. I am one of those that believes in "GM has the final wording"; however, I am a generally a reasonable person and if I make a bad call, or interpret something in a stupid manner, please feel free to bring it up with me. I do take things better when presented things in a reasonable and non-abrasive manner. One thing I do like to do is no-retroactive actions if it will hinder the PCs. If it is something that if fixed will help the party out, then I will take action, and if I screw the enemies/NPCs over that is my mistake to handle and I will not penalize the group for it.
When it comes to adventures, I tend to like a mix of puzzles, RP, and the combat. I will play to both a character's strengths and build rather than try to counter your character's concept at every turn(unless running a pre-made adventure, then I go by as close to written as I can). However, make a note, that at times I will play to a character's weakness. I do this not to screw over party members, but rather to encourage them to be well-rounded and to increase the need for the party members to work together rather than compete with one another.
I like character stories and backgrounds. I don't require it, but I like to read them, and I like to find ways to incorporate a character's stories into the overall game story if/when possible. The more I have about your character, the more I can make it about the characters.
I prefer to run mostly Good campaigns, but I am okay with anything really since I will wait to build the story until I know what is going to be played (will try to cater to your characters on this). I am also okay with optimize characters and even powerful builds. I do discourage builds solely meant to push and break the boundaries of the rules. I will allow Pathfinder and 3.5 if you guys like. I am willing to allow 3rd party classes, feats, etc. under the assumptions that 1) I have access to review them as written and 2) You understand if I have to make a change or just not allow something. I will inform you ahead of time, and I will try not to change things once game begins, but if something is problematic (mostly ruining the game for the rest of the PCs) I may talk with you via PM on ways to fix it. Please understand if I have to deny a build or ask you to tweak it. I do so only to prevent possible problems that I am unsure if I can handle without making someone mad or that might take an adverse effect on the game for teh rest of the party.
What else... I guess character designs.
Since to reach level 20, the PCs would either have been very lucky, or the cream of the crop. Here are a few guidelines that I am thinking of:
1) 25 point-buy (High Fantasy), however, no character may start with a stat lower than 7 (including racial adjustments) unless it is required by race (This will fall under non-standard stuff).
2) No Tombs or wish spells or anything that takes money to increase stats beyond what classes, races, and level progression add. (This is just to keep the entire party on the same level).
3) Two traits (standard rules on this)
4) Any race or class (exlcuding custom-made/homebrew), with the exception that I have to either have the material (ask me) or have access to look at anything that is not Paizo-published Pathfinder. I will not restrict the Pathfinder only stuff released by Paizo.
5) Give me the name/source of material you are using (Just so I can find anything that I am not familiar with).
6) Backstory is optional (but greatly perferred).
That is all that I can think of right now. I promise I am not really that much of a stickler, just wanting to cover all the bases that I can think of since I don't know any of you and your playing styles.

@Billybrainpan No worries. I find it best to really think about what sounds the most fun. I sometimes get jaded with certain roles, and so it becomes difficult deciding what to play sometimes.
@Corerue Is that Dragonrider from Krynn Campaign Setting? If so, I'll need to re-look over my book (donated all my hardbooks to my main group).
@DarkLightHitomi Depending on if everyone else is still interested you and Corerue would make 8 players. Encounter levels tend to start getting screwy around here, but I've dealt with worse. So if everyone is okay with a larger party I can make it 8 players instead of 6. Weretiger... If absolutely no other templates, then yes. However, because the example given is bestiary 2 is incorrect, i should warn you that the weretiger with +10Str +5 Con in hybrid form is a ECL+5 (The tiger is CR4 +1 from lycanthrope). Because as you level, templates and monster classes tend to lose their edge, I may lower the ECL to +3, but I would have to wait until I see how it will stack up to everyone else.
Because it looks like we have quite a bit of interest, if everyone would like to start posting a spoiler of their characters here. That way I can get to work designing everything. Once I com eup with a name for the PbP and get a campaign slot, I'll post here.

Here is my character
** spoiler omitted **...
Couple of questions:
What is "Grarlflangan" and from what source?
Also, which revelations, curse, and eldritch bloodline did you take?
I think I figured out the Time mystery.
Everything else looks good and checks out. :)
Edit: Put mystery, but meant curse.

Billybrainpan |

@DarkLightHitomi & @DM: I'm okay with a larger party; I am still interested in the campaign even though I am still working on the specs of the character.
@Gnome Oracle Crunch: What curse do you have and what is your mystery? I don't see it in your character description.
Lame cure, time mystery.

DM-DR |

@Edward: I think that we are starting at level 20. With 8 players, we can have more than 1 oracle, even if you both specialize at the same thing (would be better to do different things). So if you would like to play oracle, than go for it. I want everyone to be happy (without breaking stuff of course). As far as templates, I'd prefer no template stacking, but I will allow templates. Just post what you would like and I'll let you know if it is okay, or if we might want to rework some of it.

Donald Robinson RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |

I have a vague story-line idea so far; will flesh out the details as I get the all the characters posted.
Going to call the campaign "The Ataxic War". Weird name, I know. I'll post the links here once I have them set-up. Can't wait to see more characters. (No time crunch, so don't rush.)
@Billy, that could work. If everyone starts picking templates, I may switch to that option. Otherwise, I'll just let people pick a single template (maybe two if it isn't something crazy) if they want it.

Donald Robinson RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |

okay, this thread should get linked to the full campaign soon, but just to make sure everyone can find it when the time comes here is the campaign link:
The Ataxic War

Gobo Horde |

Hello again :)
I had just about given up on this thread but it looks like things are moving again!
I restate my offer to help get things going/campaign creation/power balancing/ect. If you would like the help, PM me and Im all yours.
I would probably say go with #1. Basically you get your level 20 Capstone then just keep progressing in a linear fashion as best as we can extrapolate the classes. Ex. Fighter would get a bonus feat every other level, bravery increases at level 22, 26... Armor training increases 23, 27... weapon training at 21, 25... ect.
Should probably require spellcasters to take improved spell capacity if they want to advance their spellcasting aspect. Your thoughts on epic spells themselves? I would be inclined to say no, but its your call :)
Ill be rereading stuff to refresh my mind on the material, and also chose someone to play soon :) Ill probably be sticking with at least a partial melee despite this being a casters heaven as I never did care much for casting ;)
Lastly, Thanks for taking up the chalenge!!!

Gobo Horde |

I got the pm, Ill have to respond tonight as I am heading out right now :( But I can definitely help you with it ;)
As for my character, I am probably going to chose one of the following, I havent decided yet...
A Human Viking, fishing for crits with insane crit multiplier (Something like 19/5)
A crossbowman, wielding as large a crossbow he can get his hands on
An unarmed/improvised weapon breaker barbarian, destroys everything around him and uses it to kill things
A human invulnerable rager with dragon totem, stalwart, superstitious and insane hps, aka unkillable
A dwarf Stonelord, probably focused on defending party members
An orc synthisist 13/barbarian 7 that goes up to huge and has permanent enlarge person, aka a giant orc :D
a human summoner with a dragon eidolon, his name is Smaug. The prophet of the Dragon
Your guys thoughts? any one in particular you like/dislike/steps on your chars toes?

Gobo Horde |

So I have pretty much decided to go invulnerable barbarian. I've got the feats and powers picked out so I just have to write it out and design a backstory for him :) I do have 2 questions.
1. How are we doing hps? Max? Average? Roll?
2. I would like to take the 3.x troll bloodline if it is alright with you. I mostly want it for the double healing but I will assume no unless I hear otherwise :)
A bloodline level grants no increase in base attack bonus or base save bonuses, no hit points or skill points, and no class features. It counts as a normal class level (with no class skills) for the purpose of determining maximum skill ranks.
Include the character's bloodline level when calculating any character ability based on his class levels (such as caster level for spellcasting characters, or save DCs for characters with special abilities whose DCs are based on class level). The character doesn't gain any abilities, spells known, or spells per day from the addition of his bloodline levels, though —only the calculations of his level-based abilities are affected.
Character level:
4: +2 on spot checks
8: great fortitude
12: +1 consitution
16: double heal rate (Ex)
20: +2 troll affinity
Edited out 3.x stuff. I suppose if everyone is getting level adjustments this could be mine.

![]() |

I am wondering if you are useing the ecl chart in the race builder. The race points don't matter but it does basically say that one's ecl gets reduced by one per tier, if it starts higher then ones lvl.
As for the weretiger cr, I'll take whatever, but I did want to point out that it's cr is either the base animal or the base creature's plus one, so basically once I hit 5 levels, the cr is only 1 higher then character level.
I will start with the minus 5 unless you say otherwise.
I will play the younger version of a god I played in a 3.5 game. She is a drow weretiger, sorcerer monk.

Donald Robinson RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |

As I was discussing with Billy, I have to say no to the Ghost template only due to the permanent incorporeality. I have a dislike for abilities that let you by-pass encounters without using resources or good tactics (such as scouting/divination). If you want to still play a ghost, I can come up with an alternate solution.
@Gobo
1. I forgot to mention that. For ease, we will do max HP, but enemies will also be given higher HP (not max though).
2. That was the first time I saw those. It looks like you are choosing the Minor blood line, so as long as you have the 1 bloodline level (making you 19 character levels + the 1 bloodline level) that will be okay.
@DLH
I haven't looked much into the race builder. Let me do some reading and see what I can come up with (will need to borrow Advanced Rage Guide from a friend).
As far as the base animal + base creature, I always understood it to be based on pre-class levels, thus staying with the tiger (CR4) for +5 adjustment. Let me do some reading on the race builder and I will see how to adjust the levels.

Donald Robinson RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |

@star lyght - We are currently at 8 people, but there is one or two that I am awaiting to see if they are still interested. If one of them does not wish to continue, you can have their spot. As far as the Strix ninja/magus/DD, sounds interesting and you are welcome to post a build should one of those two decide not to play.

Donald Robinson RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 |

Oh, and as far as the Weretiger, I went and re-read the Monsters as PCs section on the bestiary. As you add class levels, the CR changes by every 3 of the average party level. For every 3 levels, you lower the CR adjustment by 1 until you have lowered the adjustment by 1/2 of the original adjustment, and then you continue normally. Going by this, the adjustment is only +3 and not +5 afterall. Once I read the race builder, I'll let you know if it can be lowered more or not.
