Alrighty folks!
Not to be confused with Marvel's Avengers, I'd figured being that we have our very own, Captain Andoran, it might be neat to nickname yall after that legendary team - after all, yall are adventurers! Please note, this does not infer that yall should act and think like the Avengers!
For our newcomer - Budd the C.H.U.D., this is where we'll be conducting all of our OOC chat. Feel free to talk about whatever interests you about this adventure, such as NPC's, town info, etc. I'd like to entertain the thought that yall might be interested in each other's characters.
Since the adventure doesn't begin until Tuesday May 6th, this should give everyone the downtime they need to do any last minute changes to their characters.
With that being said, I look forward to playing with you all!
Rafaello Lorenza
Thanks a million for squeezing me in here. This ought to be a ball!
If we were the Avengers, though, who would that make ol' Rafaello? ...Sure hope it isn't Doctor Druid...
But anyhoo, anybody mind if I try out this dice rollin' macro? Lessee:
Roll that beautiful bean footage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Lovin' it. This is gonna be awesome.
Kienyach
Excited to get started! Captain Andoran and I are going to be leading the charge with our powerful fists of fury!
I am not aware of any tweaks that should be made to Kienyach (either through inaccuracies or for campaign setting) so I believe he is good to go.

I, too, still must decide which spells to start off with! I'm sticking to Kienyach's advice to leave a slot or two empty so I can prepare something as needed later on, but I have my tentative list updated on my profile. I'm open to any suggestions on spell selection, by the way- I just realized that Rafaello is my first real "caster" character that I've played (did an Investigator during the ACG playtest, but that wasn't quite the same ballpark).
Also just realized I don't have my gear listed. D'oh! Just updated that. And yes, I blew 10 gold on a grooming kit.
Galoria Ginodesa
Crunchy is pretty much done for me in profile if anyone is looking to cover bases or whatnot (I don't do that, but I know others do).
Galoria will be a travel-loving, sticky-fingered, bow-wielding vixen. Though she is very close to nature, she is not as much a tree-hugger as one who's learned the art of useful symbiosis.
One important thing to note which I will forget to remind all of you: Whenever you can see/hear Galoria and she's in one of her favored terrains (forest or urban presently), you automatically get a +2 on initiative, stealth, perception, and survival rolls. You also leave no trail and cannot be tracked.

After having played Cleric, it's an awesome class with an equally useful spell list. The trick is to have several clutch spells such as Divine Favor for combat buffing and Restoration, Lesser. Ideally, you'll want to cast whatever buff spells within the first few rounds of combat, and then switch to using your weapon or abilities as needed. You shouldn't have to spend every round mashing your channel energy or curative spells if things go right.
IMO - since as a cleric you've access to spontaneous casting, you're better off switching out Cure Light Wounds and Cure Moderate wounds for other spells. After all, you've that glorious channel energy! ^_^
This is gonna be awesome.
I agree!

A man's gotta look his best!
That reminds me, it's always those little things a player does for their character that adds flavor to a game. In one campaign, I had a fetchling kuthite cleric who's mundane kit gave me the biggest smile - 5x Fishhooks, 5x Iron Spikes,5x Caltrops, 50 Ft Hemp Rope, Heal Kit. Needless to say, Zon Kuthon smiled upon her use of those items :>
Pipernortin
Pip's ready to roll!
I was considering dropping some of my random junk and picking up a wand for healing or something, but I think we'll probably have enough without that. Plus, Pipernortin is the sort to collect a bunch of random items, rather than something actually useful.
Gnomes, and all that jazz.
Can't wait to get started!
Laralai
Sweet, just finished Laralai in time. I was slightly cheeky and took a Drawback, so I could grab Two-World Magic to cast Create Water. If that's an issue I'll be happy to remove it.
FratManCy
Alrighty folks, I've added a few things to the game.
Map: For convenience, I've uploaded a simple map of Cassomir within the campaign's header. Rather than have all the locations listed as a “go here, go there” quest, I'll add points of interest as we encounter them.
Quests: Speaking of quests...the main plot of Tears at Bitter Manor has yall trying to uncover what happened to the missing members of the Golden Watch, and who's behind it but there's a plethora of side jobs that'll come up as the adventure proceeds.
Campaign Info: I've listed several of the NPC's and notable things of the adventure within the campaign's full description.
I hope yall are excited because this is quite the adventure!

Spoilers!
I'm sure that everything is perfectly fine and that the Golden Watch was just overly cautious in asking extra adventurers to come along with them. This module obviously involves lots of tea drinking and sitting around a nice, comfy tavern exchanging stories.
The real trouble begins when they run out of tea, and ask you to run down the street to buy more.
FratManCy
You see / hear nothing above the occasional chirping and breeze of the Sellen River.
Noticing that Pipernortin's cursory inspection proved nothing, you decided to give the door a try. Pressing your ear against the door, you urged Pip to keep his pups silent as you listened real hard. * thump * *thump * thump *. It sounded faint and low, almost rhythmic. You're quite certain that it came from somewhere within the Townhouse’s second floor.
Allowing the others to scan the main door, you keep your eyes peeled for any sort of movements and signs of life. Dissatisfied that Galoria and Pipernortin's inspections hadn't brought up anything, you motioned for Stephen to check the right side of the building, while you bound for the left.
In your search, you noticed several things. The room immediately left of the main door held what appeared to be a game room. Visible through a trio of three windows situated near a locked door could be seen a waist high table bearing grass green velt and several orbs – a billiards table? - among other small tables and stands. Unfortunately there was no sign of live within the Townhouse so far...
Peering through the first pairs of windows, you noticed what seemed like an luxurious house devoid of any life. Taking heed of Kien's advice, you wandered along the right side of the house, passing by several large windows that bore witness to an alchemy lab.
Unfortunately, you don't notice anything above the discordant sound of an amateur violin player. How the player's misplayed frets seemed like blows to your soul.
It was truly something to behold, the earnings that an adventurer could make. Taergan Flinn's home spoke of well spent luxury – custom made furniture, classy but appropriate paintings, and even indoor plants, but the only thing that it was missing was...people to fill it's emptiness.
While each of the heroes tried their luck towards rousing the alchemist from his home, not a single soul answered the door. It seemed as if their adventure in patience was about to begin.
Fortunately for them, Kien answered all their problems. The Main door remained unlocked.
Ha! Yall must seem like Missionaries, Girl Scout Cookie salesfolk, or the little on from Frozen
Do you want to build a snowman?

Well, you've basically spoilered the entire adventure. But at least stick around to explore the map titled "Happy Place With No Monsters".

This is one of my favorites.
GM - "Ok you've arrived at the town. Where do you go next?"
Player - "I think we should visit the tavern first."
GM - *Pulls out map* "Ok who is entering the building first?"
All of the players point at each other.
FratManCy
As mentioned within the recruitment thread, combat is going to handled differently. We'll be using a theatrical approach, meaning that instead of grid based movements, locations and distances will be hand waived. Players would state their relative locations and positioning -
Doing my best to avoid the Ogre's vile spear, I find a space to flank and attack my opponent!
A clear picture will be provided in those instances where speed/location/spacing are relevant.
Panros hefts his crossbow high, not trusting the larger room to be safe. Making his way up the northern passage, it quickly grows wider and its height vaults up, until it is nearly a dozen feet high within the chamber. A small firepit lay on the other side of a trench in the middle of the room, its fires dancing. A few hunks of indeterminate meat suggest recent use. Three rock ledge jut outward from the walls, on the north, south, and western sides.
The trench looks rather deep - perhaps ten or twenty feet deep, and a single natural bridge extends across its midsection. As Panros took another step forward, he froze. There was a scratching noise - slight, but definitely there - coming from the eastern of the rock platforms. No kobold was visible, but keen dwarven senses told him that something was there.
There - another noise. This time from the western platform.
And that uneasy feeling of being watched.
No visible targets, but you're pretty sure something's here. Proceed y/n?
And when it comes to a giant cluster#Q@#, I'll provide a map.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
FMC for worst GM ever, imo.
Also, feel free to post your actions whenever you have a chance. On most PbPs the GM will take care of all the order-sorting as he resolves all the attacks and actions. Otherwise you run into situations where you're waiting a day for that jerk before you in initiative to post his damn move! Present company excluded, of course.

How do you wanna handle snake style boss?
Snake Style: You gain a +2 bonus on Sense Motive checks, and you can deal piercing damage with your unarmed strikes. While using the Snake Style feat, when an opponent targets you with a melee or ranged attack, you can spend an immediate action to make a Sense Motive check. You can use the result as your AC or touch AC against that attack. You must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed.
I can see it dragging combat on asking me if I want to use it every time I'm targeted.
Kienyach
I would recommend this.
[dice=Sense Motive]1d20+5
At the end of each of your combat posts. Alternatively, DM FMC could simply make the roll himself when you're targeted.
FratManCy
I would recommend this.If targeted by an attack:
At the end of each of your combat posts. Alternatively, DM FMC could simply make the roll himself when you're targeted.
Thanks for the suggestion!
To make things easier, I'll make the Sense Motive Checks and apply it to your respective AC when it's relevant.
FratManCy
Thanks to a friend's suggestion, I'm rocking knowledge checks a bit differently to make things interesting.
Rather than post a wall of text every time someone rolls, I'm going to do this.
If your check beats the Monster's CR, you get 1 Question for every 5 you beat it by.
Ex: Malachai gets a 19 on a Knowledge Religion check to identify the Undead he's fighting. Since the Creature is a CR 2, he gets +3 Questions
1. What am I fighting? <Draugyr>
2. Does it have any special properties? <It's an aquatic based undead with minor fire resistance, whose attacks cause nausua, and can hold their own in a fight.
3. Are they common to dungeons? <No, they're most likely found within aquatic wrecks.>
By doing this, I feel players will learn what they want to know rather than GIANT KNOWLEDGE CRAM.
Should anyone object, please let me know.
Kienyach
I second not dying.
I am currently in the middle of finals so I apologize for my sparse posting. Things should be back to normal this weekend.
Galoria Ginodesa
Combat DMPC Priorities:
1. If there is a clean shot, Galoria would use her bow.
2. If not, she will move to an area where this is possible.
3. If neither 1 or 2 apply, then she will draw a blade and move into melee.
4. In the event none of the above seems effective, she will attempt to retreat or utilize the environment to her advantage.
Out of combat, she prefers caution and stealth to brash actions. More of a talker than a forcer, you will not find her breaking down doors. Lockpicking them, however, is another matter entirely.
Rafaello Lorenza
How to DMPC Rafaello:
-First priority is to protect his teammates and his teammates' dogs. If this means using up a use of Channel Energy, go for it! Raf's a gentleman, he's not stingy. Selective Channeling is a go.
-Second priority: if a comrade is engaged in melee with a foe and he's in range, Rafaello will move in to flank if possible and attack with his glaive. Keep in mind he has a 10ft reach with that!
-Third priority: support spells for fun and profit!
-And lastly, if there are plenty o' undead around, feel free to have him Channel Energy against them. Only if there's more than one present and in range, though.
In non-combat situations, feel free to have Rafaello hang out in the back and agree with party decisions.
