You arrive to the conference room as ordered, a simple room with only chairs and a projector. A bald man in an expensive suite stands there and waits for you all to arrive. Then he starts giving you the assignment, showing you a slide show of pictures

[b]Gentlemen, my name is Agent Crowfield, we have gathered you today to tackle a problem of national security. In the southern pacific there is an island 213Km of the coast of Chile, Peace Island, that has recently fallen to the rule of High Chancellor Ivan Freeman. At first the rule of the High Chancellor was largely ignored, but recently we have been having many disputes with the High Chancellor, who has now threaten us with the use of Biological Warfare. At first we though these were baseless threats, but intelligence recognisance has shown that, he has three large factories building crates with what we believe to be his biological weapons. Gentlemen, we have asked you here because you are the best. We need you to go down there and destroy the three factories, and take out High Chancellor Ivan Freeman and his two closest allies: Field Marshal Frederic Krushteng-Hass and Head of Scientific Division Oliver Stonegate.
Ivan Freeman is a complete mystery to us. He isn’t from the Peace Island, but we have no idea where he came from or who he really is.
Frederic Krushteng-Hass on the other hand we know quite well. He was born in 1899, and is now 112 years old. He is a German genius, who was part of the research department for the German government for both world wars. He is well known for being ruthless and a tactical mastermind, but his sadistic and callus personality have always kept him out of the ranks of the German army. He disappeared after the fall of the Nazis, and now he has turned up with Freeman. Our intelligence suspect he is bed ridden as he hasn’t left his house for three years. He lives on the outskirts of the capital.
Finally we have Oliver Stonegate. Originally an American, Oliver has been expelled from several universities, every time for illegal and unethical conduct in his research. He comes from an extremely wealthy family, but it seems that Oliver suffered some tragedy during his childhood, the incident changed his personality completely. [b]

He pauses for questions before continuing

Male TrueBrit

Trevor is a young, large man, broad shoulders with a well cut frame. His hair is cut pretty short, so its red-blonde colour is only barely perceptible. His skin is fair, moreso then one would expect, his bright green eyes and bright face give him a certain attractiveness, yet if one looks close enough it can be seen that his nose must have been broken at least once. He wears a slightly shabby looking camourflage suit and seems to be nervously playing with his knuckles.

Trevor grins, showing his pearly white teeth
"We did not get the intelligence about those factories from the yanks, sir, did we?"
After clearing his throat:
"Do we have topographic information beyond the sat-map? Do we know about possible locations of our soft targets?"

Shane's close cropped red hair is the brightest thing in this dreary briefing room. He's obviously came prepared for a day in the office rather than in the field, sporting a meticulously prepared set of #2s and nothing more deadly than his pen. During the slideshow he has been taking thorough notes. Most of his questions will be raised during the planning stage, but he does have a few things to mention during the pause:

  • Do we have a bioweapons expert? I'm a fair hand at breaking things, but this doesn't sound like the sort of materiel you just drop some thermite on and call it a day!

  • What is the situation on the ground? Are there any friendlies or revolutionaries to coordinate with?

  • What exactly was Stonegate's area of research?

  • Do we have detailed records about Krushteng-Hass's operations during WW2? It might be useful to gain some insight about how he plans...

Our intelligence was gathered by our agents on the island, as for soft targets that will be something you have to ask them. One of the agents on the island is a bioweapons expert, he defected from the regime when he found out what they were up to; his name is Doctor Oliver Lamner. You will meet with Dr Lamner when you arrive in the island. As for the situation on the ground we have 16 agents in all, most are civilian agents so you should not expect much back up in a fire fight. There was a rebel faction, but it was ruthlessly crushed about a year ago, we believe that the movement is now utterly dead.
Stonegate’s area of research was wide, but from what we gathered it was mainly research on fast acting neurotoxins created by organisms. It is believed he wished to weaponise bacteria with these neurotoxins. He seemed to be expelled by “accidentally” contaminating other researchers with the bacteria; that was the latest thing he did. Before that there was some research on psychic manipulation were a fellow researcher was driven insane by his contraption. Before that there he was working on ocular degeneration with lasers, which left three members of staff blind. His record is peppered with all sorts of strange experiments.

Krushteng-Hass like to deal in hit and run tactics, while he was mainly a scientist, he was in charge of three raids into Soviet Russia, every time it was a small group of highly trained soldiers, mainly snipers, taking out research facilities. Krushteng-Hass always lead from the front, being wounded in his final raid which took him out of the war. Throughout his entire career Krushteng-Hass always attacked during the night.

Shane adds several other notes as the briefing goes on, and asks questions to draw out the information he needs to outline a plan for the mission...

I'm not sure how much more information you still have to introduce... feel free to address these later in the briefing if it's too early or they would interrupt the flow of the narrative

  • What armed forces are known or suspected to be present on Peace Island? What level of training/experience do they have? What is the type and origin of their equipment (small arms, crew-served weapons, land/sea/air vehicles)?

  • How will we be entering the area- air or sea insertion?

  • What kind of reachback and support is available? e.g. realtime surveillance (air/satellite), communications (satellite bandwidth, jamming capabilities, etc.), supply caches left be agents on the island, etc.

  • Is a dossier available with a summary of the local history, culture, economy, and politics? Is there an expat we can speak with before we leave on the mission (or at least someone who's actually been on the ground there)?

  • What environmental and terrain factors will we have to deal with- weather forecasts, dangerous insects, parasites/bacteria, etc.

”We suspect there to be around 100 trained mercenaries and maybe up to another 500 conscripted troops. While the mercenaries have state of the art equipment the conscripts are barely equipped at all. All their weapons are imported from abroad.
You will arrive to the island by sea, you will be taken within 200m of the island by a submarine, and then you will be taken to the island on inflatable crafts which you will dispose of once on the island. Once you have finished your mission you will be picked up by helicopter which you will need to radio in. We will maintain constant communication with you, but otherwise we won’t be able to provide much direct support.
As for the terrain and history of this island, it was originally part of Chile; at that point it was uninhabited. In the 50s the Americans took over the Island. They built a naval base on the island but it was short lived, in 1954 a tsunami hit the island which destroyed the base. It was later that year that a group of European millionaires bought the island. They built it to be some sort of resort. The island’s population grew in bursts, mainly from waves of immigrants. The island is basically two cities at each end divided by a large jungle in between. The population is roughly around 10,000 inhabitants, around 30% are of African dissent, 20% are of Asian dissent, 30% are Latino, 20% European. The island’s weather is mainly tropical, heat waves are common and torrential rain is not unheard of.
As to what to watch out for; malaria is very common there, as is a few other tropical diseases. The water isn’t safe to drink, and you will need to treat wounds very carefully to prevent gangrene.

Male TrueBrit

"A kind of resort? What kind of resort? Do we have to go undercover into one of the cities to meet Dr Lamner or will he come to meet us once we set up base camp?

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

"It was a resort, like a holiday second home for many of them. It was later turned into an independent country. You should meet Dr Lamner at his house, it is about a mile away from were you should land"

A blond man, quiet until now, leans forward to speak. He is whipcord lean and his uniform is immaculately pressed. His blue eyes give no sign of his inner thoughts, but his brow is furrowed as he speaks.

"Sir, with that kind of opposition what kind of support will we have available to us?"

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

"Not much, we do have an aircraft carrier in the region which could deploy airstrikes, but unfortunatly we are very restricted since it could cause vast diplomatic backlash. We can also send in a rescue team if your team fails and is captured or you need back up"

Male TrueBrit

When are we expected to leave and when is Dr Lamner expecting us?

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

"You will leave tomorrow at five oh hundred hours, you should be arriving at the Island in about 3 days taking into account the necessary travel changes, Dr Lamner will be expecting you the day after that"

"That doesn't leave much time for preps... I'd like to try to get a few items issued while the warehouse is still open:

Wet weather gear
Water purification tablets
Anti-malarials (Doxycycline+Primaquine)
A reasonable amount of the local currency and/or goolie chits
Triple normal combat load for ammunition
Radio (Probably a bowman...?)
Autoinjectors with neurotoxin antidote (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerve_agent#Antidotes)
PLBs

Dark Archive

All that and the following are going to be issued to each of you for the mission:
-Fake Passport
-Maps of the island
-Details of all the contacts, encrymted
-a part of the decryption code (all three of you get a third)
- portable gun cleaning kit

"Sounds as if we haven't much time. I've no concerns with the gear list, as usual I assume supplies will be more limited than we hope and hostiles more plentiful."

Male TrueBrit

"Sounds good enough for me. Squadron Leader Frazier, should we use the time before boarding to get aquainted with each others capabilities?

"Yes. I would have liked to have some time for shakedown training with a new squad, but we'll work with what we have. I guess I'll go first... I've done a few stints in Africa, but I'm much more comfortable with deserts and mountains than jungles (if you catch my drift). My most recent assignment was working brigade level comms with the Kiwis; I'm a signals troop and networks intelligence and systems integration are my specialty. I also have a certain degree of expertise with security systems- I'm a bonded locksmith and know my way around most of the industry standard PIDS, FLIR and alarm systems."

Male TrueBrit

"Sir, I am pretty fresh in the Service. I was bloodied with the regulars, though, infanterie, not air force and my instructors told me to forget abou that, Sir. Main deployments have been peacekeeping in the Kosovo under KFOR mandate and OP Herrick in Afghanistann under commission of the Royal Navy.

During Selection I was commended for assault weapons and close combat.
The instructor during jungle training attested me a special knack for orientation and I specialized in CRW, Sir."

"Sir, no deployments yet. I just finished my specialist training as a medic for the 22nd, and I've had advanced CQC training including certain knife techniques. Distinguished service with the 51st Brigade, Second Infantry Division."

sorry i haven't posted recently
You are shown out, and given instructions to board a military plane early the next morning, the flight is standard and you arrive in Chille where you are meet by a young officer who shows you to the local barracks "We will have to wait for the sea transport here"

Shane looks around the place critically... better than some, worse than others. There's no telling how long we'll be waiting on the navy, but this is probably your last chance to stretch you legs or buy a pack of smokes. Keep your gear close and get ready to move when the word comes down...

That said, he picks a bed and passes the time reading a book.

Travis continues to exercise and stay ready. In his spare time (if any) he will review the maps and mission briefing.

"Ever been on a mission like this before sir?"

If you mean the bioweapons... no. And I hope to God that damn few people have. If you mean taking out a tin-pot dictator and his cronies- yeah, I've done my share of that.

Male TrueBrit

Trevor wants to check firearms and equipment if already possible, otherwise he uses the rest of the afternoon to do some light running, outside, regardless of weather, knowing the effect a few days on a submarine can have..

Shane would spend a bit of time for basic cross-training. He makes sure everyone knows at least the basic passwords and interface for his computer and gives a familiarization course with his Steyr LMG since it's a not a standard issue weapon for the RAF. He also has everyone go over the contents and layout of their survival and medical kits so there are no surprises later.

sorry I haven't responded, my internet died on me for a week!

Ok can we have wits+ investigation roll

Wits 2 Investigation 1 3d10 ⇒ (10, 6, 5) = 21

"First time on this sort for me, hope it doesn't turn into some major disaster. At any rate, this med kit looks tip top, should be more than we need."

3d10 ⇒ (3, 5, 7) = 15 = 0 hits

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

Travis you get to roll another die given that you got a 10

1d10 ⇒ 1

Oops, been a while since I played nWoD.

Male TrueBrit

Wits 3 Investigation 1
4d10 ⇒ (8, 10, 5, 7) = 30
1d10 ⇒ 7

Travis and Trevor

Spoiler:
as you go over the details of the mission certain things about your targets don't start to add up, especially how they managed to build the instalations they have so quickly, decades before what they should have been able to have

Male TrueBrit

Trevor turns to Squadron Leader Frazier.
"Sir, do you see these dates? Here is where they would have had the earliest opportunity to start building, here is the date of our intelligence about it working. Here again and here...again. The time window is much to short.
Either they ise facilities that were aöready in place aand only modified, or some of this is complete and bloody bogus."

"You've noticed it too MacAlistair? Do we have any earlier shots of this location? If they did build them so quickly I'd like to know how they got that much heavy equipment and manpower in place without anybody noticing."

Hmm... Good catch. I hadn't thought about that; It won't be the first mission I've gone in on with questionable intelligence. I think we should trust the imagery over the analysis, these pictures don't show any signs of being faked. I'd certainly like to bring up some of these dates with our sources when we get on site.

The Door opens and you see who soldiers walk in, a man with glasses and slick black hair and a woman, young and blond.

What rank do they wear?

Shane makes introductions and welcomes them to the table. We've been going around in circles looking over this intel, I don't suppose you have any new information...?

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

they're both Sergeants

the man with glasses says "I managed to get some intel that i think was overlooked, it seems the Island became a safe heaven for Nazi refugees after the war, Frederic Krushteng-Hass wasn't the only one to be found in the island."

Travis leans back and blows air.

"So now we've a lot of Brazil boys on the island? Any change in our orders sir?"

This last is directed at Frazier.

Shane considers for a moment... No, no changes. We're not Nazi hunters... We'll report it up and see if there's any ODESSA intel from the guys upstairs. If we come across records about Nazi refugees we'll secure it and pass it up, but it should be considered a tertiary objective.

Male TrueBrit

"Yet, considering the identity of one of our targets, we would have to consider the possibility that he is networked there, in a way we werent't aware of before. Also, he, or his brazil fellows might have started with constructing those facilities in time to explain the strange dates in our intel"

We already know that he has power and connections, this just gives us a hint where all that money came from in the 60s. This is going to be ugly, he's had decades to entrench himself and I don't see how it makes a difference if his foot soldiers are 3rd generation nazis or home-grown thugs... and he would have had to brought half the bloody Third Reich with him for the construction in this intel to make sense!

"Fair enough sir, we'll keep an eye open for anything untoward."

Male TrueBrit

"Fair enough, sir, although, with your permission to speak frealy, I still think those facilities could easily be possible if they are just the current form of factories started sixty years ago. At least with the intel we have now, that would be as probable as some sophisticated ruse."

Shane shrugs, I'm not an intel analyst, I usually just go with what the boffins in DI and MI6 toss my way. We'll learn more about it when we get on the ground, but I can't imagine anything being higher priority than taking out those bioweapons. Now let's go over this again...

Shane stands by the phrase "Plans are worthless, but planning is everything". He'll keep discussing contingencies and planning alternative routes, rendezvous points, and fallback positions until they get on the ship.

Dark Archive

Moving on, lets get you guys to the island
The drop off went of without a hitch, you arrived at the island under the cover of darkness, when you get there, you find no-one, which after a few minutes gets you worried since you were going to meet your contact here, what do you do?

Male TrueBrit

How does the POA look - as far as anything that can be seen under the cover of night AND through my nightvision binoculars.

In case needed:
wits & composure / survival 3d10 ⇒ (2, 8, 9) = 19 & 1d10 ⇒ 1 1 success /2d10 ⇒ (10, 8) = 18 reroll 1d10 ⇒ 8 5 successes

Trevor

Spoiler:
to the north and west you will find only jungle, sout is the ocean, east is on of the cities, there is a road not far off from your possition which survilance has said not to be used often. there is a shack about 1 Km away near the edge of the jungle, this is the closest structure to you, all the other structures are to far to be disernable

"Well boss, we're here and nothing to be seen. Go to fallback or proceed on mission?"

Nothing ever goes according to plan anyway.

Male TrueBrit

"We probably should seek shelter to change. If our fake ids are still good, we should be able to get close enough to Lammers home for surveillance.

Are there any other contacts on the island we could check or is Lammert the only one?
