Daereon lands hard, missing the rat with his swing. The man raves at the party, speaking of the end of days as he closes with Belgrim and swings ineffectually. Lem pulls his sling as whips a stone at the man, but finds the effort to continue performing throws his aim off. Finally, the rat snaps back at Wilka. No further injuries are inflicted so far.

With not enough room to use his Glaive while stuck in the corner of the room, Wylka throws a gauntlet punch at the rat directly before him.

The Pathfinders strike true, the rats squeak cut off by the sorcerers morningstar and the human staggering back, bleeding heavily. Defiant to the end, he swings one final time at Belgrim before collapsing in a bloody pool. Lem drops his flute to load his sling and fire at the lone rat remaining, thunking his bullet into its flank and eliciting another squeak of pain.

Belgrim raises an eyebrow. He readies his guisarme once more as he stands by the door. Once all the others are ready, he proceeds through the only door available.

As Belgrim readies himself before the door, there is a sharp click at his feet. A slot in the ceiling flips open to allow an axe to swing down, catching the dwarf with a savage cut, blood spraying across the ten feet in front of the doors. The weapon then dangles at the end of its arc, swaying slightly and covered in crimson.

Belgrim drops to a knee, his guisarme clangs to the ground. He instinctively grabs for his shoulder, pleased it is still attached.

Wylka quickly moves up to Belgrim, grabbing his shoulder to slow the bleeding as he begins to cast his healing spells.

After Wilka closes the gash in Belgrim's shoulder, the doors open to a long stairway leading further down. The stone steps are steep, clearly requiring a careful step to avoid tumbling to the bottom.

Moving too fast down the stairs (more than a single move a round) will require an Acrobatics check, but should not be an issue. As steep stairs, they will require double movement to climb up if you have to turn around. Let me know how you wish to proceed.

Tall vaulted ceilings disappear into darkness high above as candles and torches barely illuminate the lower reaches of this room. Along the north wall are three cell doors, thick wooden affairs bracketed by solid steel bracings with small, six-inch- square windows set high in them. Enormous crates, barrels, and sacks of goods are stacked neatly in the southwest corner of the room. The floor is clean granite, etched with a wavy- line pattern that permeates throughout the entire room; the design even climbs the walls and disappears into the vaults above. A rat-shaped chalk drawing dominates the floor in the center of the room, clearly depecting a dire rat leaning forward as if to pounce. Thick wooden doors in the east wall lead to a set of steep stairs beyond.

On the far side of the room stands a man, Taldan features bearing a cruel disdain. His armor is emblazoned with the symbol of Groteus, and a heavy amulet hangs from his neck. He hefts a heavy flail and snarls at the party. "I can only guess that you are to blame for the impediments to my plans. Prepare to die for your insolence." The rotting monstrosity before him flexes digits that end in sharp claws, a baleful glow where its eyes should be.

On Hiatus

As the monstrous horror advances, Belgrim strikes out at its legs, knocking it to the floor. "Tricky little meat..." it hisses as it rises up, allowing Belgrim to strike out at it once more. The cultist advances as well, beginning a chant as he gestures. "Groteus, cloud this fools mind!" Belgrim feels disoriented for a moment, but then the moment passes.

On Hiatus

While it could be some weird humanoid that looks rotten, or an outsider that appears like a rotting horror, the party can likely assume it is undead judging from the company it keeps.

Belgrim's strike encounters tough flesh that resists his strike. Wilka's divine power causes the creature to hiss in anger, drawing its gaze to the cleric. Lem looks at the monster and shouts, "Don't go away angry, just go away!"
