Niulamayu
The cloud moves forward along the ground toward the kitchen, not getting too close. "Ready?" calls a high-pitched voice. "Yep!" and "Ready!" answer a chorus of others. "Kannimurka!" yells another.
Suddenly the ground under the spiders is covered in a thick, viscous oil that looks flammable. Bring yer torches, boys!
Max Smithson
Max keeps following the talking blue gas ball toward the kitchen, seeing the swarm of spiders he stops.
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Assuming I can just aim at the ground, attack roll? I guess you'll figure out if I hit.
The Elusive Trout
Combat Start!
The creatures, as everyone already knows, skitter out of the kitchen and into view to find where their new meals might be only to be partially blocked by the creatures only the mindless vermin can see clearly.
Said conglomeration fights back by coating the ground in viscous oil.
Lupi just backs away slowly.
Max tries to go up and whack the creatures he can get at (that aren't currently a floating blue thing) only to realize... his weapon just slips right through them! You could, but let's get this out of the way.
It is, however, coated in oil now.
Init up: Kenith, Scary Hellknight guy(Xarl), Niu, MONSTORS, Lupi, Max
A weapon on fire does damage like fire. :)
Max Smithson
Max says a command word and as he pulls a blunt arrow out of his quiver, the end begins glowing.
Flaming arrow: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
Ha, that'll do pig, that'll do
The arrow streaks toward the oil covered floor and as right before the arrow reaches the target the end of the arrow bursts into flame.
Xarl
Xarl sniffs at the spider swarm.
"Well can't kill those things with a sword, so...."
Xarl is currently holding his action
Niulamayu
The cloud hems and haws for a few seconds before moving back to engulf the halfling girl.
UMD: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Btw, this brings up a question: should I just pretend all my wands got magically refreshed by the planar rift?
The Elusive Trout
Yes.
2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
1d6 ⇒ 1
The creatures part around the blue cube that they see as the writhing creatures they are and move directly towards Max, bit of their numbers whittling away.
Max becomes covered in their number.
Make a DC 14 Fort or be distracted. I believe you're immune to disease? Regardless, the bite is painful, per srd, and gives you a negative 1 penalty on attacks, damage, and skill checks until you get a dc 13 heal check done on ya.
Lupi dips her weapon into the flaming pitch, getting a little singed1 hp for her efforts. However, she does have a small flame on her weapon now.
Max, Kenith, and then Xarl again.
Max Smithson
Oh my DC 14...I am immune to disease
Fort Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Max realizes the bugs have to be in the fire to kill them, so he walks back into the flaming pitch.
Hopefully you'll allow me to walk back into the fire
Kenith
"Guys I have an idea though it will take me a while to implement it."
He starts looking through his pack for a bar of soap.
Once he finds it he stars scrubbing it over his shield for two turns.
Xarl
"By all that is holy BURN FOUL CREATURES!"
Xarl calls upon his divine bond and adds the flaming quality to his sword.
Xarl then steps forwards towards the swarm and prepares himself for a fight.
The Elusive Trout
The swarm heard noise after the dwarf begins his soapy plan and the other paladin steps forward. Niulamayu moves away from the weakest member of the party and waits to see what occurs.
Despite Max's move into the fire, he is ignored for the newer, louder enemy. He is, however, singed by the fire he has walked into. 5 damage. Reflex DC 10 to not be on fire.
2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
1d6 ⇒ 5
While they distinctly avoid his weapon because it's hot, the swarm move over Xarl with a vengeance, moving through his visor to bite at his unfortunate and lovely face. 9 damage, and you're under the effect of their painful bites, as well. -1 to attack, damage, and skill checks until the thing is dealt with. DC 14 fort to avoid distraction.
The Elusive Trout
Kennith continues scrubbing. His shield is starting to take on the lumpy sheen of his personal hygiene supplies.
Xarl! Your flaming damage will go through on pretty much anything but a nat one. as per the property called down by the divine bond! Also, it's your turn.
Xarl
Fort save: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Xarl moves back and takes a swing at the swarm.
"THAT'S RIGHT STAY FOCUSED ON ME YOU RUNTS"
Taking a 5-foot step back and then swinging at the swarm with my weapon. Not sure it will do anything but gotta try.
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Damage Regular: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 = 13
Damage due to fire: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Second attack if able: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Damage Regular: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 2) + 8 = 14
Damage due to fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The Elusive Trout
1=Lupi, 2=Max, 3=Xarl, 4=Kenith
1d4 ⇒ 4
2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
The swarm with attention span problems moves away from Xarl because he hurts and moves to the soap-smelling, shield-toating dwarf. Kenith takes 5 damage, faces painful bites, and needs to make a 14 fort save against distraction and a 15 vs. disease.
Lupi tries to come in and swipe at the creatures before her burning pitch goes out.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 HIT... but the small dagger only does 1 damage to the swarm with its little flame.[/dice]
The fire from the pitch starts to spread in the building.
Niu held action, so any time. Otherwise, Max, Kenith, Xarl:GO!
Max Smithson
Does Kenith have the soap on his shield? I am wondering if maybe I could shoot his shield realizing it would light his shield. Blunt arrow of course, but it'll hurt I bet. Flaming burst is my divine bond for 10 minutes. Just trying to figure out a way to defeat this swarm.
Kenith
He should have a bit of his shield soapy but I wouldn't count on it being all too much of it, it is a heavy mithral shield after all...
Max Smithson
Max turns and pulls another blunt arrow from his quiver, muttering to himself as he aims directly at the swarm and Kenith.
"Sorry about this Kenith"
Please don't kill Kenith: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30
And quickly sends it to it's target, followed by another arrow the two arrows flying from his bow in the blink of an eye.
Second Arrow: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Fire Damage 1st Arrow: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Fire Damage 2nd Arrow: 1d6 ⇒ 2
My assumption is I wasn't aiming at Kenith, but the swarm and a 1 would be bad. I didn't roll weapon damage because it doesn't really matter. I can if you'd prefer.
Xarl
"FOUL CREATURES DO NOT RUN FROM MY HOLY FLAME! EMBRACE YOUR DOOM!"
With these words Xarl walks up to the swarm and swing at them.
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Flame damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
The Elusive Trout
Niulamaylu puts out out some of the expanding fires and Max takes out a few of the creatures' numbers by using more fire shortly before Xarl's attack sets a few more ablaze. Kenith would have done something, surely, if he hadn't been trying so hard to get the blasted things out of his ears!
1d4 ⇒ 3
2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Xarl, being really loud and whatnot, attracts their attention again. This time they somehow sneak into his breastplate. 5 damage, save vs. distraction DC 14
Lupi smacks the swarm again to negligible effect... and her dagger goes out.One more damage. Yes.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 HIT
Okay. MAX, KENITH, NIU, XARL. Delaying changes your spot in init if you don't wait the whole round. Cool, huh?
Max Smithson
"Stand still you stupid spiders.
Max fires two arrows so close together they almost seem to be one really long arrow.
1st arrow: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23
2nd arrow: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
fire damage 1st arrow: 1d6 ⇒ 5
fire damage 2nd arrow: 1d6 ⇒ 2
