I figured this would be worth setting up now. To start with, if anyone has any information about their characters that they want all the other players to be aware of, this is the place to put it.
In terms of how we run this, my original plan was to do picture and simply have people state what they're doing, but after doing some research, it would appear that Roll20 is the best option for how I want to run this. As such, if everyone could please make an account if they haven't already, and then provide me with the necessary e-mail(you may PM it if you prefer your privacy) so that I may invite you, I'd be most appreciative.
For a quick sum up, our cast is...
Bogan Canis - Male Human Fighter(Tower-Shield Specialist)
Trisha Halcyon - Female Changeling Mesmerist
Anca Covanu - Female Human Warpriest of Desna
Ven Nicolae - Female Half-Elf Unchained Rogue
Sabina Fueges - Female Human Oracle
Egil Forkbeard - Male Human Skald(Fated Champion)
Here's hoping for fun and adventure. Let it be known that I'm open for questions or constructive criticism at any time.

Greetings fellow players. Bogan here. Trisha and I have been playing with TCD here for a couple years now, and he's run us through all of Hell's Rebels, over half of Wrath of the Righteous, the first book of Strange Aeons, all while we have GM'd with him as a player in Hell's Vengeance (me DMing) and Skulls and Shakles (Trisha DMing). While there is no such thing as the perfect GM, I believe that TCD is the perfect DM to get us all the way through Rise of the Runelords.
From my experiences as one of his players, he likes includes creativity and good roleplaying. For example, we got past a lazy/unwitting guard in Hell's Rebels with a successful bluff check simply because our bard pointed to our warpriest, who was wearing an Asmodean's breastplate that we looted, and stated 'He's Asmodean'. This guard, from what we found out later, couldn't normally be bypassed, but he decided to roll with it since we also got a good roll out of it and seemed plausible enough. If it has to do using your skills for something unorthodox or out of the ordinary, still a good idea to ask him though. He may not say yes, but he may not say no either.
Another thing is that while he's not soft, he's not overly harsh either. Put some faith into him that if you fall, you may not necessarily be out.
Otherwise, if you got any tips, suggestions, or general advice, don't be afraid to speak up. Have fun with your character, and let's give this our best shot.

Great meeting you all. This is my first time playing a female character so I am very interested in seeing how it goes.
I do have a bit of advice for the party: Let's make sure we have a way to deal with haunts sooner rather than later. When I GMed RotRL my party didn't and they REALLY struggled when they got to a certain part.
I'm EST and I'll probably be posting when I get a spare moment at work, or late at night after my son goes down. I won't be able to access roll20 at work (gov't computer). I hope that's not a problem.
I like a good balance between all the things that make tabletop RPGs fun as I feel too much of any one thing can get stale. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing started!
Ven Nicolae |
I'm excited to get started myself. Have not used roll20 before so I'm learning on the fly; my experience in tabletops as a whole is rather lean. I'm a university student, so my posting tends towards late at night EST, but I usually check my games a couple times a day.
Haunts, hm? Well, good Warpriests can spontaneously cast Cure Wounds spells, good Oracles get Cure Wounds spells for free, Egil could use a Wand of Cure Light, and depending on when Haunts come up I could, as well, as I plan to max out UMD.
Bogan Canis |
Ok, so we've got at least 2 people on EST, 2 people on CST (Trisha and I), and 1 person on PST (TCD). Interesting. If you got some questions on Roll20, let us know. We've been using it for our live games since the start of our gaming together.
Egil Forkbeard |
Hey all, excited to be part of the group!
I'm not sure I've ever played a campaign with 4 females and 2 males. I'm guessing I'll need to play up a chauvinist pig to make this interesting. :)
I'm MST myself (Utah, USA). I'll post as frequently as possible Monday through Friday (can do multiple posts per day), but will likely only get one post in over the weekend.
I'm glad to see this group has the core of a local group. My group died last year after playing for quite some time, so this will be my outlet.
Looking forward to it!
Can we open the Gameplay thread to dot into? I can delete my post after so it's clean.
Trisha Halcyon |
Trisha checking in. Hope the others check in soon.

Play what you want, friend. Let's all at least get along well enough to work together.
DM_ThatCanadianDude |
On another note, in PFS Skalds must take Extra Performance at 1st level instead of Scribe Scroll.
Would you be okay if I replaced that here, too?
If you wish, you're welcome to it. This isn't a PFS game, though, so it's not mandatory.
I work at a convenience store, so my schedule is a tad on the random side. My posting on work days(which can be anywhere from 1-5 times a week) are very late, which I suppose would be early morning for you guys. Otherwise, I will be posting throughout the afternoon.
On a slightly sadder note, due to work related randomness, I won't be able to have the game running until late tonight. I apologize, but will have it running as soon as I am able.

Absolutely. I was just pointing out that most groups have maybe a single female character, and we have four. I'm sure we'll get along great. :)

I have sent invites to everyone(except Sabina, who has yet to give me her Roll20 contact information). Once everyone has opted in, I am ready to kick this into middle gear. We'll save high gear for later.
Once you're in, I'll grant you permission for your character. Please set them up on the main map, somewhere in the crowd. Anywhere. If your character is a local, you can PM me for information on any of the locals.
Ven Nicolae |
I've gone into the roll20 game, but I'm not quite certain what I'm doing; do I need to be online at the same time as TCD to get permission to move my token? Is there something else I need to do besides click 'Join Game'?
DM_ThatCanadianDude |
That's my bad. Once you've accepted the invitation, I can give you permission to grab your token from the journal on the right, but I think I mistyped something for you. I can't fix it at the moment as I'm on my phone at work, and Roll20 only works on phones if you pay for it. My sincerest apologies. I'll fix it when I get home. If you have a specific location you want to start, just let me know and I'll set you up there.
Trisha Halcyon |
Wait, no, you did it right, I just didn't know I had to shift-click to place my token, whoopsie! Time to go find a proper tutorial for roll20, I think ^_^;
We're here to help if you need it.
DM_ThatCanadianDude |
While it is Easter weekend, I gotta admit that in my experience if a person is slow to check in or initially unresponsive, that usually doesn't bode well...
You are correct, but as you say, it is the Easter long weekend, which is why I'm giving her till the end of the first encounter. And my apologies, but I won't be able to give you your token till I get off work in 3 hours. If you like, however, you can tell me where you want to start and I'll make sure to place your token there.
Bogan Canis |
The game on my campaign tab says ThatCanadianDude's Untitled Campaign.
Any chance we can name it Rise of the Runelords or something? :)
We've got a plenty of titles of campaigns that follow the name of the AP. It should be something unique, that shows we wanna have fun with this. Like... Roast of the Rhymelords or Ruse of the Limelords. XD
Anca Covanu |
The quality of posts so far has been exceptional, keep it up. I like how the separate interactions have their own bit of flavor. I think this will be a fun group.
Hopefully it's not too long before we start smashing some gobbies!
Trisha Halcyon |
I think that might change a bit when we start interacting with one another more and less with NPCs. Maybe not much, but a bit.
Bogan Canis |
Unfortunately, some towering hulk of a man wearing the biggest shield she'd ever seen beat her to the punch. She stepped up beside him and crossed her arms over her chest, snagging a quick glance at the man's face. He seemed like the type of guy who could eat an entire tray of meat pies all the while fending off an ogre with a bar stool. She gave him a wide berth.
Love that description of Bogan. I can't stop imagining him with a tray of meat pies in one hand and a bar stool in the other while fending off an ogre now. XD
DM_ThatCanadianDude |
I'm going to have to turn up the contrast on my laptop, all these quotes are making my eyes cross. Your quote game is strong TCD.
My apologies is that's a problem. I like to keep things clear, so I make sure to have a quote to separate things. With any luck, this will become less common once the fighting starts.
Trisha Halcyon |
I can assure you Trisha prides herself on her purity of heart and mind.
Bluff check: 1d20 - 20 ⇒ (14) - 20 = -6

So I've got a fun little story about this part of the adventure. The first time I was an actual player for RotRL (my very first experience with the AP I was the GM) was through a random group I found on Roll20. My GM told us he wanted to expand upon the carnival games a bit. Great, I thought, that sounds like a lot of fun.
Boy was I wrong. We spent the first six 4-hour long sessions playing carnival games. Yes, you read that right. 24 hours of carnival games. But I stuck with it and if that's not a sign of dedication, hell, I don't know what is.
So I hope you all don't mind if Anca conveniently "opts out" of the gaming portion of the festival.
:)

Dang, that's a lot of carnival. We probably wouldn't have even spent half a session on carnival, and we do 2 4-5 hour Skype calls to do them. Luckily, she don't have to game. We just need to establish a bit of character connections, but we can have fun with it if we so choose.

I assure you, I don't plan to milk this for that long. Everyone has a chance to do one game, interacting with whomever they please, and then we break for lunch.

Before we get too far in, I thought I should say something to avoid problems later.
I love all the role-play so far, and am here for an exciting adventure.
I am a little worried about this becoming Rise of the Runelords, NSFW edition within the party. I know several of you have played together before, and I don't want to stifle anyone's style. I'm not sure how far things will go, but I might be in the wrong place if we're into adult content territory.
Just thought I'd put that out there in the event you'd rather replace me early on. :)
Bogan Canis |
The most adult things get in our live 4 man group are flirts and implications via tasteful curtains. No worries, dude. We don't cross lines people aren't comfy with.

Forgive me if my RP post gave you the wrong idea. I never intend to go beyond vague implications, so what you're seeings just about the limit. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunity to see Trisha's other sides as we go on, but I'll tone down her forwardness if necessary.
Believe me, I don't wanna scare anyone off.
Ven Nicolae |
Yeah I gotta go with Egil over here, a little flirting is one thing and I was just kinda going along with it since it seemed like fun, but going straight to seduction after about three minutes strikes me as a little, uh, skeevy. Wanted to say something out of character about it before Ven goes running in the other direction.
Trisha Halcyon |
I apologize again. My regrets are through the roof right now and would take it back if I could.
Egil Forkbeard |
I think we're all on the same page.
I should say I think the idea of a changeling seductress mesmerist is super cool. Egil will, I'm sure, have some things to say about the majority female group and I'm fine with a little flirting, etc.
We were just starting pretty heavy on the in-party seduction, and I just wanted to make sure I hadn't inadvertently signed up on the wrong board. ;P
