steve pointed out to me that Vox still has a standard action available if there was no spell cast
standard action (if available): attack with longsword
attack, longsword (pa): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
crit confirmation: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
crit damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
GM Silbeg

Vox's action is definitely available - but he did not confirm the crit. FYI - since you do not have a shield, you should wield your longsword two handed. This make your damage 1d8 + 4 (STR) + 3 (Power Attack) -- not +5. I'll assume that's what you did!
The zombie takes a strong hit from Vox, but not quite as strong as he was hoping for, as his longsword is deflected by the well armored shoulder of the lamellar armor.
It definitely did not like that, so chops back at the Hunter. However, the armor that defended him was temporarily knocked out of place, and the ancient warrior misses.
Overhand Chop!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 damage: 1d1 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
OMG have you guys been lucky!

Thanks for the correction, GM Silbeg. You were correct, Vox should have been using the longsword two-handed
Knowing not to back away, even though every fiber of his being is ready to run for safety, the youth stands his ground and wonders how long his luck can hold out before one of the creature's devastating attacks cleaves him in two. Vox tries to push the growing concerns and doubts from his mind as he swings again, but cannot concentrate through the terror.

And the luck goes both ways.
Vox swings mightily once more, but misses the armored zombie. Poochie is distracted by the vicious undead fighter in from of himself but stoically casts a quick spell, and attacks... hard. His attack hits, but the blade does not bite as deeply as he had hoped.
Swift action spells do not provoke, so no need to cast defensively. So, you get a bull rush attempt -- I will let you do it.
Strong Brute
|
His stomach finally cleared of his meal and half his entrails, his mind finally freed of his fear and shame, the brute roars his defiance at the terrible zombie thing in the room with him. He strides swiftly toward the creature, raising his scythe and bringing it down in a powerful stroke as he closes with the undead figure.

Damage, Rage, PA: 8d4 + 28 + 12 + 24 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 1, 1, 4, 3, 3) + 28 + 12 + 24 = 84
Well then...I sure hope I was remembering Silbeg telling me I was good to go this round!
Roudantaimi
|
Strong Brute is really giving them back the humiliation :D My action assumes the zombie is no more. I'll retcon if for any reason Sven's blow didn't happen.
"Whoa, Sven! Good to have you back, your scythe was sorely needed here!" Roudantaimi says, relieved. But he still hears sounds of battle somewhere. "Vox! He's still fighting those zombies elsewhere! Try to hold on, friend! We're coming!"
Roudantaimi starts hustling towards the estimated location of the hunter, healing himself on the way.

GM Silbeg
|
Reroll, Vox? If you have one, use it! You have at least one, from the Crypt of the Everflame!
Jaender, unfortunately, neither of those things work. First, a potion is not a weapon, and thus requires "Retrieve an Object" not "Draw Weapon". Second, it is a full round action to administer a potion to an unconscious person. Sorry. Heal check? I would also allow you to pink your Aegis of Recovery on him, and have it activate.
Vox Banner
|
If I have a re-roll from Crypt I can use that, for sure. I just want to check something new first. The round 6 spoiler shows:
Vox[14] (dying - DC19)
DC = 19, which would also mean a base check of 10 + 9 (for the number of hp in the negatives that Vox is). So, Vox is at -9 hp?
If my math is right, then I think Vox has a Con of 12, so he should have another few rounds before he dies outright. Right?
If yes... Jaender, put that damned thingy on my toon's neck right away so I can save Vox's re-roll for a time when he is in real danger :)
GM Silbeg
|
Crap... you are at -11, sorry. So DC21. You have taken a total of 39hp... just that maths are hard. So, it does take a nat-20 to reroll.
Vox Banner
|
Ah, gotcha. That makes more sense. I think I'll just let Jaender put that magic dog collar on Vox. There is no point wasting a perfectly good re-roll if I need to stick a natural 20 :)
Unless Jaender decides to let Vox die, then he may end up using that re-roll
Jaender the Black

Retro action!
Jaender in his fear for his friend's life knows one thing that will save him. He runs his stubbly little legs past the she-wolf, taking the Aegis off as he goes. as soon as he gets close to his bleeding friend he forces the trinket around his neck, hoping the magic is sucked out of it.
GM - The crappy roll from before is the same benefit he would get from the Aegis of Recovery... (2d8+3) As a player I would almost prefer that since anything that puts Vox back on his feet will likely just attract another attack that would kill him outright. Jaender could survive anything but a crit... for at least 1 round...

I've put an arrow on the map... that shows you can draw a line of site, but...
To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target's square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).[/ooc]
So, you can attack, but will have cover.

Just before Ophiuchus begins to heal the group...
The youth stirs and looks up just as Einhardt begins to lick him. After a moment spent petting the animal, Vox lovingly pushes the wolf away and stands up. "Thanks for coming to my rescue," he says looking shocked and still shook-up. Sheathing his longsword and picking up his lucerne hammer, he moves to stand by the others.
Next, the youth draws his own wand and passes it to Ophiuchus, "Please use this to heal everyone." Vox seems to stare off into the distance, lost in thought, and stands humbled by his defeat at the boney-hands of the undead warrior.
Vox didn't have a wand of CLW prior to this game, so he'll provide the heals for this encounter. Hopefully that will make up for him not having one in the previous games. His tagline has been updated to account for 37 charges used on the wand.
Arturo the Swift
|
"Woah..." begins a groggy Arturo as he gets to his feet and a wry grin appears on his face, "... why do we always forget to not split up? Well done everyone. As it seems to be more usual, I charge in, fall asleep and then figure out what happened later. What did happen, actually?"
Once Arturo gets caught up, "I don't suppose anyone kept an eye on Dakang's quarters? I think this counts as enough of an emergency that he needs to show himself. Zombies and demons assaulting the people of this temple should give even those stiff aasimars reason enough to grant us access."
Arturo's plan is to go back to the entrance to Dakang's quarters to see if he can be found.
GM Silbeg
|
As they rescue Arturo, the Pathfinders notice that the door of the crypt is open.
37 charges, noted. Vox, in order to do the "CLW chaining", you'll have to have been using all the wands
Do you go where Arturo suggests, or explore the crypt, and the other area you haven't seen?
Strong Brute
|
The brute, scowling, joins the others as they regroup. He shakes his head at Arturo's question, not wanting to mention his own cowardice and weak stomach. Instead he nods his agreement with the man's reasoning, wanting to see this master Dakang and see what he thought of all this. Or if he was behind it.
Roudantaimi
|
"Awesome! Everyone's still well and alive! Except the zombies. Oh, and one poor halfling." Roudantaimi starts excited, and then turns mournful when he remembers the halfling whom the dretch butchered mercilessly.
"Yes, I think it's high time for glorious leader Dakang to present himself. I think the devotees might also be in need of some consolation."
The gnome reloads his pistol in case the zombie onslaught is not quite over yet. Then, he starts marching towards Dakang's quarters, radiating divine fury.
_Ophiuchus_
|
Relieved that all his friends still live, Ophiuchus sheathes his greatsword, and draws his large flail.
"The time for being nice is over. It is time to hurt people so other people won't get hurt. It is time to protect the stupid from the evil. It is time to end this. Then we will find whomever created these dead that live and now want to make us dead, even though we made them dead again. Not that it is all cleared up, let's go. We have used much precious time healing ourselves."
Arturo the Swift
|
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works when we're so close to consensus but...
"Wow, I didn't see that door open there," says Arturo, eying the entrance to the crypt, "While I do want to see Dakang brought to justice, I cannot ignore that whoever summoned those creatures may well still be down there summoning more. I think the safety of the inhabitants of this temple should come first. Perhaps we can convince someone to petition the Aasimars to make sure Dakang doesn't flee while we're securing the grounds. Also, perhaps Dakang has some kind of secret passage down to the crypt and we'll find him down there anyway."
Arturo scouts out the entrance to the crypt, listening for sounds of further activity below, "Come on, let us not split up again... and this is truly where the most immediate threat lies. Even if Dakang escapes, at least the inhabitants will be free of his distorted religion. Rather they live than see Dakang brought low. Hopefully, though, we can do both."
So, yeah, Arturo's vote is to grab the nearest temple inhabitant with a clue to ask them to get the Aasimars to ensure Dakang doesn't flee and then secure the place by going down the temple.
Jaender the Black

Jaender sees the open door, and the pull of confronting dakang conflicts him.

The party makes their way to the open door.
This vaulted mausoleum holds six large sarcophagi, each bearing the carved image of an aasimar dressed in ornate robes and holding glass spheres in one hand and a bell, a book, or a lotus flower in the other. Innumerable runes crowd the top edges and sides of each sarcophagus. A solid wooden door stands near another door that was boarded shut, but now a pile of boards lays on the floor.
Three of the sarcophagi are open, but empty.
Arturo the Swift
|
Arturo peers cautiously inside before stepping back and allowing Strong Brute to lead the way forwards (tactical updated with Arturo's new position, also deleted the stinking cloud - hope that's okay).
Check for traps, etc.
"Well, fool me once, shame on you..." Arturo begins counting how many times he's foolishly led the charge and been laid out in a matter of seconds as a result, "Fool me nine or ten times, shame on me. You first, you brave, tall, strapping, scythe wielding maniac, you!"
Jaender the Black
|
"Lets see what is in that room that was uncovered, and hope these other coffins don't open behind us..."
Jaender takes his place in the normal door opening routine, watching Arturo do his work.
Strong Brute
|
The brute just stands there, looking around aimlessly, before he looks back at Arturo, who seemed to be looking at the large man. An awkward silence, then he points at himself, "This one?" He nods, leading the way towards their destiny in this wretched place.
Roudantaimi
|
"Well, that the only closed door available!" Roudantaimi comments cheerily. He places his hands on the door, and lets the magic in his Gloves of Reconnaissance do its work.

The six elaborate sarcophagi contain nothing other than the bones and rags of their occupants. The central sarcophagus lists slightly to the side. Arturo identifies a crack beneath it that leads to a crooked hollow space roughly 8 feet long and 18 inches deep. At the rear of the crevice, out of sight from the entrance to the hollow space, rests a set of battered brass scales. Reaching the scales requires a tight squeeze into the narrow space.
Jaender, being of smaller stature than Arturo, tries to get in there. He is able to retrieve the scales!
Roudi uses his gloves, and sees the following...
Most of the everburning lanterns hanging in this hall are dark, but the dimness does not diminish the grandeur of this corridor. Along the north wall stand several statues, each depicting an angel or other good outsider. Some are depicted in dramatic poses befitting a holy warrior. Others have heads bowed in eternal contemplation and hands cupping glass spheres. The southern wall bears a large set of double doors, but these doors are boarded up. Smaller doors stand at opposite ends of the hall. A few bits of stone and other debris litter the floor and a musty odor hangs in the air.
Note your mission goals!

"More statues!" the youth exclaims. "Wait up, we can't go forward until I've noted down as much as I can about these." Vox begins to sketch the shape of each statue, noting their position and stance, any objects in hand, and their countenance. He also goes so far as to sketch and note what he can about the sarcophagus, wanting to cover his bases in case their relation to one another is important.
"Does anyone know anything about these?" he asks rhetorically, wondering aloud if anyone else knows what these statues mean, and knowing he is clueless on such matters.

Vox, hang on! You aren't through the door yet. That was what Roudi saw with the gloves!
Vox takes time to draw out everything about the crypt, and the sarcophagi, before he allows Arturo and the Strong Brute to open the door. He realizes at the last moment, that he needed rubbings of each sarcophagus, so goes back and does that as well.
Then, the party opens the door and moves out.
I am going to assume that we're going in standard order.
Vox: Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Einhardt: Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Suddenly, as the boy and his wolf step into the corridor, the stone wings on the large angel statue next to the door swing at the two!
wings vs Vox!: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25 bludgeoning damage: 6d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 6, 2, 4) = 25
wings vs Einhardt!: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 bludgeoning damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 6, 2, 1) = 22
At that point, the statue stops moving.
Heal up before we move on, please!
The party heals them up again, and then Vox (less cheerfully) catalogs the statues. However, he cannot really tell the difference between them, but Ophiuchus happily starts detailing the difference between the angels, archons, and agathions, as distinguished by their features, and their glaring lack of duck heraldry.

As he finishes up, he watches Poochie use the wand on Vox and Einhardt as Arturo continues to check the room for more traps. Jaender peers over their shoulders to look for anything that might be more obvious in the long, dimly lit room.

_Ophiuchus_

In the hallway, Ophiuchus looks at the different statues, each representing all that is good, holy in the world. For one of the few times in his life, the najagi has lost his ability to speak. Turning slowly in a circle, he all of a sudden exhales in a loud burst, unaware that he was holding his breath the entire time.
As Vox moves about, making rubbings of the statues, Ophiuchus sits cross-legged in the center of the room, silently meditating on the good that is emanating from the perceived great deeds these good outsiders completed.
Turing to Roundi, he whispers, "I pray that one day I too might do mighty deeds and people would remember me so fondly that they would erect a statue of me. That I might do that much good, that I might make so many people's lives better, that they would feel the need to honor me so. Ahh, how wonderful. Just make sure they build it by a pond so the ducks might have a place to rest from their long journeys."

"Let's not waste too much time getting rubbings just yet, friends," suggests Arturo, "Not while deadly peril may await us. We need to make sure this place is safe for its inhabitants, and then make sure that Dakang faces justice. There should be plenty of time after that for rubbing sarcophagi and statues."
That said, Arturo moves close to where Vox and Einhardt were accosted by the statues and tries to figure out what trap mechanism they set of when they entered the room, and specifically how to disable it.
I'll let GM Silbeg make the appropriate perception (+10 for traps) and disable device (+15 vs traps) rolls as appropriate. If Arturo finds nothing in the first round of searching, maybe we should take 20 to make sure.
