The party takes a short halt. Nothing stirs. Only the wind is heard outside and the crashing movement of the Timorous Deep on the dam... oh and the endless rain.

Sable spends the break in contemplation, listening to the winds and chatting softly with Korax in Elven.

Ailetha paces nervously not knowing what may lie in wait. As she does so, she begins to hum a new tune trying to incorporate the dam and trolls into her every growing saga of the Runelords.

Bree finds the least wet place to prop herself against and tugs her hood down low to block the rain. She spends the time cleaning her knives of troll blood and watching the others.

The problem with cleaning troll blood from weapons, is that it has a habit of regenerating and just showing back up on the blade.

After eventually cracking the doors, you reveal a twisting staircase that descends into the heart of the dam, descending 150'.

This cold, damp room features a large pool in the floor, the edges of which are caked with pale yellow slime and fungus. The surface of the pool bears a similar film. Additional carvings of skulls decorate the walls here. To the south, an impressive mound of skulls-mostly from humanoids-lies heaped against the wall, where they partially block a large stone double door.

A year ago Kabal's ignorant distrust of anything religious would've kept Kabal from asking for assistance. But practicality was slowly winning out over his skepticism. Even as it was, he waited until the group was about ready to move again before quietly asking Celestra, "Could you take a look at my ribs? Pretty sure that gods be damned lake monster cracked a few. Its messing up my swing."

"Kabal, I would be happy to. If you were my old friend Harry, I would be skeptical. He was always trying to get a woman put hands on him. I can tell you are a different man. Now, let me see your wounds."

Celestra performs a heal check to see how badly he is wounded.

"Does this hurt?" She asks as she examines his wounds.

Heal Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Kabal, what are your current hit points? I am happy to give some healing."

As Bree checks that each of her knives is clear in their sheaths, she glances up to see Celestra poking around at Kabal's chest. Her hand freezes on one of her knives for a moment, her jaw hangs agape. It takes her only a heartbeat to catch herself and snap her jaw closed while sliding the knife firmly back down into it's sheath. She turns her back to the scene before finally choosing which of her daggers to carry into battle and waits for the others to move out.

Perception: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (18) + 22 = 40 Sable approaches Bree and says softly, "I can't always be the one to mend him, and we need our Kabalanche in one piece." He smiles as he walks past Bree to take his place by the others.

Bree adjusts her grip on her daggers and glances at Sable, "I don't know what you're talking about. Why would I have a problem with Kabal being healed? Why wouldn't I want the man that often stands between me and imminent death in full fighting order? As long as she's not causing him harm, it's not my concern."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Sable grins and shrugs.

"...stand between me and imminent death..." Now I just imagine a romance novel cover where Kabal is holding Bree while some apocalytpic monster terrorizes a village behind them.

Bree narrows her eyes slightly and watches Sable for awhile.

He knows too much, now I'll have to kill him :P

The big man flinched involuntarily when Celestra touched his ribs...probably broke...its a wonder you can breath proper bub...

Kabal tried to ignore the comparison between himself and Harry. He'd heard enough pining about the man from Bree to last a lifetime. Dismissing that line of thinking, the warrior changed the subject back to his wounds and kept it as curt as possible but didn't forget his manners.

"Uh...thanks and yah, a bit I reckon. So, how's it look?"

Bree's pining after Harry: "Harry was always such an ass. So full of himself. I don't know why I'm going to help him, really. Well, I guess there was that one time he distracted those guards for me. And that other time that he broke that other guards hand when he tried grabbing my, uh, erm... But I think he actually also still owes me money."

Taking a deep breathe to center himself karlan starts wading into the unknown."Time to say hello."

Karlan will also be detecting evil.

Celstra gently places her hands around Kabal's wound and channels energy and follows it up by casting Cure Moderate Wounds on Kabal.

"Cayden Cailean, let me be a channel of your will! Heal the wounds of my friend Kabal and give him the strength to fight another day!"

"Well, Kabal, it seems that Cayden Cailean likes you and is pleased by your good deeds! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you!"

No traces of evil radiate here, though the air of foreboding and wickedness is palpable.

The massive mound of skulls blocks the southern door.

"I think we should check the side areas before the far door."

Bree's eyes find themselves taking in the pool and her immediate gut feel is that there is something wrong. Her eyes struggle to see past the scummy film on top of the water, and the water itself is foul and black... she feels very wrong about this.

"Wait," Bree says as she rests three of her fingers on Kabal's back, her thumb and index finger holding her blade down against her wrist. "Something isn't right. Something is really, really not right. I think... there's something wrong with that water. I don't like this."

Sable pauses as Bree hesitates and looks at the fungus from his vantage point, crouching down or levitating as needed to get a better angle.

Sable extends his thoughts, whispering as he holds up a few coins and casts seek thoughts, thinking Who's there?

Ailetha watches as the others examine the fungus. She will also carefully move over toward the doors to see if they are blocked and why.

"Do you see anything unusual, my dear Ailetha? I suspect there are more trolls where they came form."

Celestra joins Bree in looking at the pool. What do you see, Bree? Does something evil lurk within this pool?

The early warning from Sable and Bree is enough to keep you all on your toes, so when the inevitable attack began you were all expecting trouble.

A corpulent and waterlogged vicious looking troll explodes from under the water - oddly amphibious in appearance, wields a vicious looking trident forged of adamantine.
The beastial utterance falling from its mouth "GRAZUUL!" - Sable picks up its basic thoughts, it is mostly an animal and not forming anything sophisticated.

Ailetha is not surprised by the arrival of the creature, after all, they were told of the water logged Grazuul. Deciding that this is a time for comedy, she begins cracking jokes and tossing general insults that the troll thing undoubtedly cannot understand.

That the best you got? You're uglier than the black slug we fought in town, and smell worse.

Grazuul is so ugly that he makes rabid rats feel good.

Ok, so the jokes are not great, but they do make the party's spirits perk up somewhat.

Ailetha breaks out the Yo Momma jokes, they fall flat but are still good for morale.

She then fools it into thinking she is attacking. (Feint works, cant beat that)

Taking the blow in stride karlan decides right there that this evil needs to be put down. "Hello-OW!"

After mumbling a quick "Gratitude." to Celestra; Kabal fast stepped to catch up to the others. He always avoided any talk of the gods paying attention to him.

The big man had laughed at Ailetha's joke and shook his head at the fat creature's failed attempts to draw first blood. He stepped into it's reach and gave it two quick chops seeking any weaknesses.
