The envy of any cat, Nalathi dances through the marbles with ease. However, she's so pleased with herself that she nearly misses the scaffolding on the next building-- only a last-ditch grab keeps her from falling to the alley below, and she swings herself back up. Whoa... That was close!
Joanna Whitehall
Joanna hauls herself up onto the roof, just in time to see Nalathi make her jump.

Following Nalathi’s example, Ziomarra makes her way down the drainpipe and jumps on to the roof next to Joanna – who has safely clambered back onto the roof… ahead of them they see Nalathi running at full pelt and, silhouetted by the moon for a moment, jumping across the gap in the scaffold.
As Nalathi lands on the far platform, she catches a glimpse of the thief clambering down a ladder into the alleyway below – running after them and, throwing caution to the air, sliding down the ladder, she finds herself in a tight alleyway between two warehouses…but with no sign of which direction the escaping person has fled in.
You may listen for signs of which way the person has fled (Perception DC15) or look for tracks / footprints in the muddy ground of the alleyway (Survival DC12)

Back in the Mariner’s Rest: Kyrot coughs and spits out blood, his bestial teeth even more unnerving whilst coated in his own blood, ”William and Sylvain aren’t staying here…heh…you know they are Aspis yeah? Someone should look in on Devlin though – he doesn’t know about the theft yet – I was just checking on my master’s pieces down in the store… The scum caught me with some kind of blade before he escaped”

She lands in the alley, but sees no sign of the fleeing thief. Where'd you go?

I'm sorry, I'm a little confused... is Kyrot outing them to me in case I don't know, or is he guessing the thought process that prompted my question (or did you accidentally read my thoughts as dialogue)?
GM Zed
Kyrot is merely verbalising the fact that he is surprised you would think that Sylvain and William are staying in the tavern – as far as he is concerned, everyone gathered at Devlin’s meeting (which is Devlin showing off in a precursor to the Aspis Consortium auction) would have known who Sylvain and William were… Surely any collector arriving into Magnimar in the last few days will have been at the invitation of the Aspis Consortium (and would know the two agents).
So, yeah – Kyrot is accidentally outing them - maybe he’d be more guarded with information if he hadn’t just been stabbed in the neck!!!!
Teldon Moore
"Oh, of course..." Teldon answers, realizing his folly, "the agents wouldn't be staying here... I'm obviously not thinking clearly after being awoken to such excitement..."
"Ingirt, yes, please do stay here and keep an eye on the crates; I'll go with Kyrot to check in on Devlin."

Taking Nalathi’s lead, although the Wayang has now disappeared into the alleyways below, Joanna manages to jump – just – across the gap in the scaffold. Ziomarra, caught by one of the marbles left behind, stumbles a few feet before the gap and is left behind. Seeing the ladder, Joanna clambers down into the alleyway – looking for clues as to where the chase has gone…
Making the right decision, Nalathi dashes down the maze of alleyways – following the sound of the thief’s footsteps and their heavy breathing. The alleyway twists and turns before it stops at a heavy wooden fence…and, asleep in front of that fence, a vicious looking black hound…as Nalathi slows, she hears the scrabbling of the thief as they clamber over the far side of the fence.
To carry on the chase, you may either attempt to sneak past the guard dog (Stealth DC15) or, if it wakes up (due to a failed Stealth Roll), attempt to pacify the hound (Handle Animal DC18)

Nalathi rounds a corner and stops herself when she notices a black dog, as big as she is, asleep in front of her. Beyond it, she just catches sight of the thief climbing over a sturdy wooden fence.
The sleeping kobold camp lay sprawled out on dirty rags on the cavern floor. What the things were doing there none of them knew, but the three other younglings had each successfully crept through the camp and were now standing on the other side, watching her. Come on, they silently insisted. The other girl, Shalaia, beckoned to her encouragingly. "You can do it!" she mouthed. The voice of one of the boys, Darshik, whispered in her ear. Darshik had developed magic already-- the adults in the tribe said he was one of the youngest ever to do so-- and thought himself extremely clever and talented. Shalaia had a crush on him; young Nalathi couldn't stand the boy. "Just do it," Darshik's voice, magically thrown, quietly told her. "What are ya, a mouse? Scared little Nalathi-mouse?" Across the cavern, Darshik grinned and whispered in the other boy's ear. "Nalathi-mouse, Nalathi-mouse!" the boys mouthed at her.
That does it, Nalathi thought. I'm not a mouse, and I'll prove it. She started off across the room, tiptoeing between the curled-up reptilian bodies. She jumped slightly when one of them stirred in its sleep, but it settled down again. She'd gotten about three quarters of the way through when she slipped on a stray bone that had presumably belonged to whatever these things had eaten for dinner. She crashed to the ground right on top of one of the scaled creatures. It cried out in shock and alarm, rousing the rest of its companions. Panicking, Nalathi sucked in her breath, vanished from sight, and knocked two more kobolds aside as she bolted for the opposite tunnel where she knew her friends were waiting, though they had of course disappeared as well.
Nalathi-mouse smiles to herself. I'm not a mouse, and I'll prove it. That had been many years ago; she'd come a long way since then. Skirting the sleeping dog easily, she rushes to the opposite fence.

Well, what do the spirits of woe and misfortune have in store for Joanna?
Rowenna
Rowenna had padded after the other tall ones into the hallway, her curiosity over the cause of all the noise winning out over her annoyance at having been woken in the first place. She had watched with interest as some her mistress' companions quickly bolted out of a nearby window and others had tended to the bleeding man, the one that seemed to carry a slight sulfuric scent about him. After what seemed like forever, the two remaining friends seemed to come to an agreement on something. The tall man and the one smelling of sulfur went in one direction, while their new white-haired companion headed back towards the room shared with her mistress. Padding along behind, she returns to the room and notes with surprise and slight jealousy that her mistress seems to have managed to sleep through all of the commotion.
I'll fix that...if I have to be awake, so do you!
Leaping up onto the bed, Rowenna proceeds to sit on Briana's chest and bat her face with one paw.
"Maow! Maow!"
Rise and shine!

"Hmm...wha...Rowenna? Ack, Rowenna, stop!" Briana mumbles, attempting to shoo the cat away. "Why are you even awake at this time of night?" Even as the words leave her lips, she suddenly becomes aware that there are lights on the in suite and the sounds of movement. She climbs out of bed and pads out to the common room, where she sees Arsith awake and dressed in her armor.
"Arsith? Why are you up at this hour? What's going on?"
Sorry for the lack of posting for a bit there folks; real life has been a bear this week. I think things should be more or less back to normal now, at least!

Sneaking past the sleeping dog, Nalathi clambers over the high fence and, landing softly in a compound filled to near bursting with crates, looks around.

Briana gapes in amazement as Arsith relates the happenings of the past few minutes. "I can't believe I slept through all of that! And that no one thought to wake me!" she exclaims.
What was *in* that wine from earlier? I normally do not sleep so soundly!
"Give me just a moment to get dressed; you or one of the others may need my assistance," she calls as she quickly turns on her heel and heads back to her quarters to get dressed. She briefly ponders whether or not to don her armor and decides against it, worried that it might endanger their ruse should anyone see her. Opting to rely on her magic and a dagger concealed in a wrist sheath, she returns to the common room to rejoin Arsith.
"Should I go and see if Teldon and Kyrot need any help or would it be best if I waited here with you? The others are on their own with the thief; there is no way that I would be able to catch up with them now."

Back at the Mariner's Rest, oblivious to the danger in the alleyway a short way from the tavern, Teldon casts an expert eye over the scene before him. Kyrot doesn't answer when Teldon asks about the likely content of the empty crate...the tiefling is kneeling next to Devlin's corpse - his fingers sweeping the dead man's eyes closed. If Teldon thought to look, he would see the beginnings of tears in the eyes of Devlin's bodyguard.
The opened crate is full of packaging materials to the extent that the shape of the previous contents is not too difficult to discern...a rectangular shape - some eighteen inches by twelve inches - is imprinted within the straw and cotton packing. There aren't any other markings or labelling on the crate that would suggest what the contents may have been.

"Okay, if you're certain," Briana nods, too focused on getting her bearings to really notice the other woman's seeming discomfort at her presence. Uncertain of where Devlin's suite is exactly, she makes her way around their current floor and, seeing nothing unusual, proceeds downward to the next one. After a bit of looking around, she finally spots where a door to one of the suites appears to have been broken into. Picking up her pace, she cautiously peers into the room, noting its chaotic, ransacked state. Hearing the sounds of movement from further beyond as well as Teldon's familiar voice, she quietly calls out, "T-Pellius? It is I, Eudomia...Ingirt suggested you and Kyrot might need my help more than she. What's happened here?"
GM Zed
The thief watches the card flung by Ziomarra and is momentarily distracted - enough for Joanna and Nalathi to land a near-fatal combination of blows with their weapons. Falling backwards as Nalathi's trident completely pierces his ankle, he smashes his head against a crate and collapses in a heap - bleeding heavily...
...meanwhile, the fire has truly taken hold - looking around there are several water-butts for the collection of rainwater from the roofs above. If you could find a bucket from anywhere, you might be able to use it to help douse the flames... Otherwise it is likely the storage area, and all of it's contents, could be lost to the fire...

"Joanna, pull him out of here! Nalathi, don't empty the fat too close to the flames! We don't want the fat to catch fire!"
GM Zed
Scooping handfuls of fat from the small barrels, you throw heaps of the sticky mess to the floor - and, after seconds, you find yourselved digging into packages of dark powder - a powder that is certainly not 'cow's fat'. Ignoring it for now, the barrels are filled with water and - working in a chain - the fire is soon brought under control. As you start to relax, you hear shouting approaching from the nearby alleyways - it seems that the smoke that was billowing from the fire has attracted some interest.
Back in the Mariner's Rest, Teldon appears fully engrossed in the scene within Devlin's chambers - he doesn't register Briana's arrival, leaving her to take the scene in... Kyrot does however look up at her and, in a strangely saddened voice, "My master was looking forward to you visiting - it has been so long since I saw him like that... so happy". Sprawled next to Kyrot, Devlin's body lies perfectly still - the wound across his neck savagely bloody...
