As the subject line states, I am recruiting 3-5 players to go through some published Shadowrun material. I will be using the standard creation rules presented in the Fifth edition core rulebook, however let's not get to crazy and stick as close to the basics with the metatypes presented in the core and run faster. I am wary about letting loup-garou, centaur, naga, AI, changeling, and vampire/nosferatu into a game. All published material is open and a familiarity with the rule set is appreciated but not required.
If you need help with character creation, I recommend chummer, and you can simply send me the file to make sure everything is balanced. I would also like to see a fairly balanced party. It also should be noted that I will start in the fifth season as it correlates to this edition. It takes place in Chicago and has some heck of Drain rules for spellcasters.
Recruitment shall remain open until otherwise stated.

Fury of the Tempest |

Sure why not. Its been a while since I tried giving Shadowrun a spin, and I don't really have a preference between 4E or 5E.
Admittedly, the 5E I played was pretty high-powered and I got to play as an Adapt Rigger... double admittedly, both of the two games I showed interest in died very quickly. So... there's that as well.

![]() |

Oh wow! Oh yes we must have this!
I'm pretty sure I have the 5th ed. books somewhere. I'd do dwarf spellcaster unless we somehow don't have enough chrome walking around, then I'll just do cybermerc for the good of the team.
And, yeah, for all you guys interested in Shadowrun, the games by Harebrained Schemes are excellent! =)

Okay, time to answer some questions, I appreciate the interests and would like to encourage everyone to build a character and may split into two parties.
First off, free character builder...Chummer
Boggbear: 5e rulebooks can be found on drivethrurpg, also the character builder has everything you want.
Fury of the Tempest: This will be lower level and standard runners
Demon Lurking: Same basic Shadowrun rules, main difference is the return to the priorty system as opposed to the Build Point system.
Adrik Ivanov: Character will have to be updated to 5e and would like to see some of those specialties better applied i.e. you have a martial arts specialty, what martial art?
grimdog73: that's a start, we going cybered or adept?
Tenro: The 5th season of Shadowrun Missions is their "living campaign" much akin to Pathfinder Society. I am running them to start until I get a feel for the group. The reason I am starting with season 5 instead of 0 is because 5 is the only official season for fifth edition, the others were for fourth edition.
Sach newbies are cool, but I do expect you to read the sections. I have gotten tired of people in RL who are newbies who refuse to read their damn character race and class for Adventure League, but I digress. Newbies are cool as long as you have the willingness to learn.
Atlas2112: dwarf caster is cool, we going adept, mystic adept, aspected magician, or magician? Magic support, ranged attacker, magic face, Tyrion Lanister?
R0B0Geisha: Ork Hacker cool.
Kip84: I look forward to seeing what you have in mind.
Takigami: I will have to look over the sheet but what I am seeing looks good. Looks like you are a Cybered Rigger. This reminds me:EVERYONE LET ME KNOW WHAT PRIORITY YOU ARE USING FOR WHAT ASPECT!
Thecooldudenextdoor: looking forward to see what you have in mind.
Now, I realize character creation is a long involved process for this game. I would like to see by friday evening a couple of things:
1. Concept
2. Metavariant/sapient
3. Class (Adept, Street Samurai, Face, Decker, Rigger, Mage)
4. Priority Use (fore example: A Meta, B Attribute, C magic, D Skills, E Resources)
5. two paragraphs detailing history. I will not need a full character at this time, but if you want to make one by all means go ahead, it can only help you.
Reminder, this is going to be occurring in Chicago, where the Universal Brotherhood has some badness going on.

Overflight things I have found wrong with your character sheet:
Attributes are too high by 1.
Special Attributes are too high by 1.
You can only have 25 Karma in Negative Qualities, you currently have 30.
Knowledge Skills are too high by 4.
The closest cyberdeck that I found was over 800K, Where is this from? After making all your purchases you are left with 17, 523 Nuyen sans Rigger Console
3 items are higher availability than the 12 allotted, without the positive quality Restricted Gear
Fairlight Caliban, Lone Star Remote Commander, and Control Rig.

While for many the Chicago and the Bug City Containment Zone are synonymous, the CZ comprises less than one-third of the total landmass of the city of Chicago proper, not counting suburban areas and farmlands connected to the city. But the CZ is still big, and it is the rotted, gutted, feral heart of the Windy City. It starts at 115th Street to the south and runs nearly thirty kilometers north to Belmont Avenue, and reaches from the Lake Michigan on the east to an average of fifteen kilometers inland to Harlem Avenue on the west. A mass of torn-down buildings and hastily erected barricades were added to and reinforced over the three-year period that the Containment Zone was in effect, and even now nearly twenty years later this barrier stands as an imposing divide between the Zone and the outside world. Anyone can supposedly freely travel between the Zone and Chicago proper, but Lone Star watches those coming out and the gangs and warlords watch those going in very closely.
Because of the Cermak Blast, the bugs, and the debilitating effects of FAB III, and years of death and metahuman miserym astral space in and around the Zone is horrible. Unless otherwise noted in the scene, assume a default background count of 2 anytime characters are within the Containment Zone. The count fluctuates wildly at times, so players should expect to encounter everything from high background counts and mana voids to various aspected backgrounds and mana warps. (See Background Count sidebar for full rules. Future Shadowrun, Fifth Edition rulebooks may supersede these rules). Areas of Chicago outside the CZ may also suffer background count bleed from the Zone.
Besides the background count, the CZ (Containment Zone) is a virtual nightmare for deckers and technomancers, The persistent low-level background radiation coupled with a distinct lack of modern matrix broadcasting equipment through the area results in a high level of constant background Noise that makes even basic matrix communication difficult. Noise levels will vary from area to area, but unless otherwise specified in the scene, assume a default Noise level of 2 anytime the characters are within the Containment Zone.
BACKGROUND COUNTS
Background counts impose a negative dice pool penalty equal to their rating for all tests that are linked to or utilize magic in any way (i.e., spellcasting, summoning, assensing, any test made while astrally projecting, and any active skill that benefits from active adept powers such as killing hands, critical strike, great leap, or improved skills, etc). Dualnatured creatures and spirits suffer this penalty to all actions. Aspected background counts grant a boost to any limit that utilizes magic in any way (see above) to any metahuman, spirit, or dual-natured creature that matches the aspected domain. This includes spellcasting Force limits, so spellcasters need to be careful as it can be hard to control the additional surge of mana. Any magically active being that does not match the aspected domain should treat this as a normal background count and suffer penalties. Background counts above 12 are called either a flux (for aspected domains) or a void (for magically dead zones), and are very dangerous. Any being that is magically or astrally active in any way (dual natured, astrally perceiving, casting a spell, has an active adept power, has an active foci, etc.) takes background count – 12 unresisted Stun Damage each turn that they are active and exposed to the flux or void.
That being said, I love how magic works in the system and would love to see at least one Mage.

![]() |

Yes, but it will also be a lot of fun. It will be brutal to adepts, mystic adepts, aspected magicians, magicians, technomancers, and deckers.
So everyone is pretty much going to be on an even playing field. Street Samurai might have the one up.
More on Chicago
EDIT: It also should be noted that the brutality is part of the story.

ok, so ya, I haven't played 5th yet but I've scrounged together something.
joe blow average, 3s and 4s in most stats, a couple 5s not alot of cash, decent skills, but LUCKY with a whooping 7 edge.
looking to play him as a used to be wageslave, with a SIN, most of his starting gear will be assigned to his SIN, (only national), with a dependent, (some girl he found orphaned in the streets and took in against his judgement, 14 years of age, so I have the dependent as the 6 karma option, been "living" with him for two years, )
he just wants to do some jobs, get some better stuff, and retire with a decent lifestyle and maybe save a life or two.
age- 27, worked as a wage slave since he was 20.
hobbies are automotives, including boats, slight engineering background, loves pistols, not exactly good with social situations.

Adrik Ivanov, looking at your character you have discounted everything via Adept Way yet you haven't taken the quality. You need to spend the 20 Karma to gain it, meaning you'll either have to lose High Pain Tolerance or drop it by a rating and take more negative qualities. Also remember that you can only carry over a maximum of 7 Karma past character creation.

1. shooter
2. Elf
3. Street samurai I guess is best fit
4. Priority Use A attributes B nuyen C skills D race E mundane
5. Gunner is an ex-UCAS spec-ops trooper. He was discharged honorably after 3 tours in various regions, mostly off the grid and definitely off the books. He got disgusted with the behaviour of some of his comrades, so when he got a chance for an early discharge, he took it. He maintained contact with a few of his friends from the service, one is a supply sergeant with logistical expertise and a squadmate who got out just before he did who runs with a biker squad.
Gunner is good at what he does, but is not a wanton killer. He will try to minimize collateral damage when he can, but not at the risk of a mission of his other runners. He sometimes has nightmares from his tours, but he is trying to get past it.
will try to work on full character tonight and tomorrow....not feeling the best right now....thanks for the concern man!

Fury of the Tempest |

So, I downloading Chummer 5E... but I have NO idea how the hell to get it to work. Help?
1. Amenisa-Ninja
2. Orc
3. Adept
4. C Meta. D Attributes. B Magic. A Skills. E Resources.
5. Trygg is a bit of an odd runner. On the one hand, he’s an orc, and pretty good at fighting with his fists, which is normal. On the other hand, is he a sneaky-type that is excellent at inflitration. Which isn’t really typical for an orc. What most stands out however, is that Trygg dispises killing.
This likely has to due with the fact that he can’t remember most of his life. After he first successful run to today, his mind is completely dark... save for when he see’s fresh corpses, he tends to have serve flashbacks that wrack his body with pain.

Ok, let's see what we got so far.
1. Seattle spellslinger hiding out in Chicago after a tripple dreck screw-up.
2. Human
3. Full mage
4. A. Magic B. Attributes C. Skills D. Resources E.Metatype
5. It started so well, well, not really, in fact it started completely full of dreck, ya dig chummer?
But it only got worse from there.
Born in the Redmont Barrens to a bitter father who blamed him for his mothers death, young Liam was forced from an early age to endure a lot of hardships.
In the Barrens, you almost never get up unless you step on someone else's back, and while it didn't help much, running with a gang at least offered some minor protection from a worse fate, and it allowed Liam to get away from home and his fathers abuse enough to make it seem better.
As he hit late teens, Liam discovered he was one of the awakened, something that should have been a great thing, but something that ended up costing him his home, as his father, a deeply religious man threw him out for being a "hellspawn" and tainted with "unholy powers".
Liam started using what little money the gang allowed him to keep to buy BTL's, to try and escape.
but with his luck not changing much, it wasn't long until he ran into a faulty chip and got scorched badly for his troubles.
In a way it might have served as a blessing in disguise, as it at least got him back in the real world, and back into the game.
Over the next few years, Liam spent most of his time honing his abilities, learning more spells, and doing his best to try and advance in life.
His father had often referred to him as "Bad dog" in an attempt to dehumanize him, but it turned out that he was not a dog, but a wolf.
Finding his mentor spirit was possibly the best thing that had happened to him up to that point.
Not long after, he began to run the shadows in earnest, with the street name of "Bad wolf".
Sadly, not even that was going to last.
The last job in Seattle, not just a double dreck sandwich, a friggin tripple dreck cake, forced in sideways and in reverse!
A simple smash and grab, a milk run!
But there was unexpected security, when they fled they managed to cross over gang territory and got them angry, at the meet the Johnson betrayed them, and when Liam dazed and confused fled, he was the only one who did.
But just as icing on that particularly unappealing cake, he might not have been the only survivor...
So now he had a corp after him, a gang, an angry Johnson and, worst of all, possibly vengeful ex shadowrun partners.
It was time to get out, time to go far away.
With that much heat, and with the way Liam tended to stand out from a crowd, it was a no brainer to run.
Maybe Chicago...Nobody would expect spell slinger to go there, right? Right?

Daniel Stewart the only Adept Ways that are present in fifth are
The Warriors Way, The Spiritual Way, The Speaker's Way, The Magician's Way, The Invisible Way, The Burnout's Way, The Beast's Way, The Athlete's Way, The Artist's Way and The Artisan's Way. Which one is it that you want. I can adjust and send the character back to you. These are all in the Street Grimoire page 176 to 178.
BoggBear, sounds good so far.
