Hey Seeker ... just wanted to mention that if you're in need of any players in any of your other games, like, oh ... I don't know ... CotCT (just off the top of my head), that I've probably got time for one more PbP.
Just sayin'. Not like I'm lurking over there, or anything like that ...

Now that level 3 is coming up, would it be possible for Finn to take the feat Serpent Strike (from the Eberron Campaign Setting, allows a monk to flurry with a longspear) as his level 2 monk bonus feat? It's not on the list, but it seems like a logical monk bonus feat; with his other level 3 feat, he would take the prerequisite (Weapon Focus - longspear).

@Ardanto: roll for critical confirmation!
@Seeker:
Guard will probably get one of the following feats:
- Shield focus (New feats for playtesting thread)
- Defensive Combat training (New feats for playtesting thread)
- Driven by failure (BoXM2)
- Demoralize (BoXM2)
I probably take Shield focus. If we level before Guard gets a shield, then one of the other feats might be choosen, if allowed.

Demoralize [General]
When you take down a foe, his allies become demoralized.
Benefit: When you drop a foe (kill him or knock him unconscious),
all the foe’s allies within 60 feet suffer a –2 morale penalty
to attack and damage rolls. This effect lasts for 1 round plus an
additional 1 round for every five levels.
Special: One cannot receive this feat’s penalties from two different
characters in the same day.

Ok a few things
Byran . On items creation we will use the beta rules, however let me know what you plan to make, I reserve the right to veto an item if I think it will harm the game.
Franz that feat just don't site right with me, maybe it's the lack of save or maybe the 60' rang but its better then the psion power except in duration. Gonna have to say no to that one

Though the official playtest is long over, and this may very well have been talked about on the boards, I just wanted to throw out my own observations on Hand of the Apprentice now that I've had the opportunity to use it a bit.
The main thing it seems to do is turn low-level wizards into ranged fighters. With the exception of the spells sleep and color spray, HoA seems to me to be a better option than just about any other spell. Daurros still has three spells memorized he didn't use; in each case, it seemed that HoA was the more effective attack. It does more damage on average (when you have a decent Int) than a single magic missile or orb of acid, and has a pretty darn good chance of hitting. Plus, in Eberron at least, an action point will get you a second attack. Finally, a weapon like a rapier gives the much better critical threat range than a touch spell. The fact you can use it at up to 30' is a really nice bonus for us squishy-types, too.
Not saying this is good or bad, but it will definitely affect spell choices at the low levels. I can say it definitely seems to highlight the weakness of damage-dealing spells even more (which is too bad, IMO, as I always liked blasts of fire and lightning over putting your enemies to sleep). When we start going at 3rd level, things may change a bit (since the damage of most spells increases - a 2nd missile, orbs do 2d8, etc.)
My 2 cp.

Now for one the rapier using wizard will get rare as the Humans have lost the free weapon feat. Sure you will still see longsword using eleven wizards or the like but unless a human wishes to spend a feat the rapier wizard is not gonna happen.
But yeah it does make an effective combat ability, but has many other uses. It will be more limited to weapons now and you cant cast a spell in any round in which you use HoA. However your points about low level spells are good ones. We may see mages go to more utility low level spells and less attack ones. Also It would be interesting to see how other types of wizards deal with such things. I know with invokers I tended to use the ray attack often as well
Although I am thinking the weight should be lowed somewhere between 2 and 3 pounds though, just a thought
Will be interesting to see if it gets changed and if so just how

Well, if the free martial weapon proficiency goes away, I'm not sure you need to reduce the weight. Looks like most wizards will be using a dagger with it in the future (probably the best choice of the wizard weapons, and you really can't use a staff as it's two-handed). Besides, the action point for an extra attack is still a nice incentive to use it at lower levels ...
And you're right, my next set of memorized 1st level spells will be color spray and utility for the most part. And I need to start using it for other things besides attacking ;-)
