Since Kalt was right next to it, it was only a 5' move, no provocation. You can try and rip it off with a grapple check.

Heh. I'm trying to establish a working strategy. Hitting it is just going to result in a repeat of what we've seen already.


I'll give the grapple a better chance to succeed, only a 20% miss chance. No on the take-over provoking either, supernatural ability

Though his eyes look a bit strange and distant, Kalt's instinct for survival does not seem to have dimmed. He dodges out of the way of much of Lana's fan of flames, though it still burns him some. Strangely enough, he doesn't say anything to Lana as she fires magical flames at him.

Took 5 damage. Status: 41/46 hp

Unwilling to harm her friend, Avora wracks her brain searching for anything she might recall about the strange moss.

Avora:
Beyond what I've already said, you know that it is possible to tear off the mossy growths, but it usually causes some extreme pain to the host. Also, touching it in general is bad as it puffs out its spores whenever hit. If theres a few feet of steel between you and it, you're fine, but grabbing, grappling, punching, kicking, and the like would put you in danger of the mind affecting spore clouds.

Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Perhaps a bit of Kalt is still fighting from inside his mind, for when he ducks out of the way of the pout of flames, he puts the creature directly in the line of fire... literally. The growth writhes in agony as the flames burn its delicate vegetation.

Kalt feels Lana's flames burn him, and badly scorch his mossy passenger. He strides closer to her, muttering something about, "Can't let it burn, must protect it..." and swings his blade at her in a long, flat arc which sails cleanly over her head.

I’m going to assume Avora relays that information in some way.

Recognizing that he can’t attack the fungus without risking making himself its next victim, Sven settles for restraining his friend and keeping that deadly blade at bay. In one swift motion he drops his axe, undoes the buckles on his shield, and lunges for Kalt. ”Fight it Isson! I know you can hear me”, he growls.

Sven's grappling Kalt to keep him from swording people. The miss chance was for attacking the fungus right? Avora's knowledge check turned up the fact that grappling the fungus isn't a viable strategy.


He was grabbing Kalt, not the moss. Tricksy ulfen :D

Bugsby is torn between awe at the power of the plantlife and concern for his friend that has become its host. He resolves to ensure that it doesn't take over another of his buddies, and readies his sticky goop to fling at it if it becomes unattached from Kalt.

Vines twist around Kalts head, bringing a blister of spores around to aim at Sven. The hulking ulfen tries to sheild himself while maintaining his hold when the blister bursts into a cloud.

Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Sven manages to avoid much of the spores, and those that make contact cannot dull the paladin's mind, firming focused on freeing his friend.

"No!" Kalt shouts, his voice slightly muzzy. He then gives an abrupt twist and lays hold of one of Sven's arms, applying all his strength to break free. He nearly succeeds, but Sven's powerful arms and skill as a wrestler defeat him.

Thought I had you, since your stat line says CMD 20, but then checked your sheet and saw it's 21 vs grapple. And then I remembered the curse... Yay the curse!

Avora, Sven, Bugsby have yet to go this round. I feel Avora would continue to watch, fearful of injuring Kalt, while Sven would just maintain the grapple, but I'd like some confirmation before I proceed.

We should probably get someone else on killing the moss. Does Ankih or Bugsby have a burning hands prepped?

Sven tightens his grip as Ankih’s spell fills his brawny limbs with even greater strength. Somewhat comforted by the familiarity of the situation (minus the mind-bending evil moss), Sven shifts his hold into a sleeper with the crook of his elbow near his pale friend’s throat. ”I know you’re in there Kalt”, he growls.

Grapple for Damage: 1d20 + 12 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 12 + 5 = 30
Nonlethal Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13


Bugsby has no real offensive spells. Ankih should have burning hands from his domain, but I figured he didn’t want to use it.

Bugsby continues to wait and watch, ready to pin the moss if it come free from his pal. The moss, sensing the larger man to perhaps be a better host, tries again to dull Sven’s senses for an easier take over later.

Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

But Sven's concern for his friend continues to fuel his mental defenses as the mind altering substances fail to influence him.

Lana's fan of flames bathe Kalt and his parasitic extra, but the wind choses that time to blow, and neither of them are bathed in as much of the flame as the oracle would have liked.

Most anti-climactic smite ever.


So they don't cover vicious attack shrubs in smite school? The idea of smiting some moss does have me amused. Since Avora is just standing there, I'll let her have some more inforamtion.

Avora, fearful of doing the wrong thing, just watches the epic clash of man versus plant. As she does, she notices the burns have covered much of the moss, and the non-burnt parts are yellowing as plants do when they are dying. While clearly not confident, she would guess the plant cannot take much more punishment.

Seeing that Sven is grappling with Kalt, I just have a hard time with an AoE spell NOT hitting him as well as Kalt. Thus the strength to continue the grapple, Resist energy fire ( from scroll) to save Sven and the pour oil, alchemists fire or burning hands....)

Sven is in a different 5' square from Kalt. You can very easily miss Sven with an AoE spell.

And even if that is the case, Sven is entirely okay with getting burned if it'll save Kalt. Even if he wrestles Kalt into submission, we're still going to have an evil fungus to deal with.
