Tinuviel Surana
Tinuviel runs after the dwarf, stopping only when the turn ends or she is less than twenty feet from the giant yellow 'X'.
[ooc]Does the tower have a cap or roof? If so, she tells Kvothe to perch there (because the goblin(s) would be below at the battlements). If it's just battlements and no roof (really bad for drainage, you just know there's pools of standing water) then she tells Kvothe to circle above.
Menelei
I think we're rolling perception to try to see the thing, right? 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 OOOH! I see it! Or I just wasted another good roll. Anyway.
In the scale armor, there is little hope of stealth, so Menelei moves quickly, bow ready. Advancing towards the unknown creature, she catches a glimpse of a shadow in the moonlight. A shadow that doesn't belong to the wall. She draws the bow back, aiming at the shape in the darkness.
"Over there!" she hisses under her breath.
Eyotah
Eyotah whispers to the others "I might be able to get close enough to shoot it. You help the dwarf.". With that she ducks into the shadows next to the diminutive halfling, peering at the tower, trying to make out the goblin's silhouette before moving close enough for a clear shot with her shortbow (Move to within 30', using gravestones for cover where possible).
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
DM Owlbeard
Okay, player by player. Forgive any mistakes. DM is a lot of work!
----------------Round 1------------------
PC's turn.
DM Owlbeard
Dice couldn't have worked out any better as far as the Romance theme is concerned, hehe
Dairkal
Dairkal tumbles past the Goblin Rider 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 Acrobatics, coming up on the other side of it, then lashes at the rider 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (2) = 4
"Filthy vermin! Hands off the lovely elf!"
Menelei
I seem to have accomplished quite a lot by getting run over. I don't quite know whether I get to act this round or not. I'll assume that I do, but if not, just push this back to next round.
Laying down on the job? I just had a lance shoved through my belly. Didn't I? A quick glance down reveals that, despite the bloody gouge in her armor, she seems fairly unimpaled. That and the aftertaste of healing potion tells her all she needs to know, and she smiles at the grizzled warrior.
"How can I thank you, sir? You have surely saved my life and...." She forgot what she was going to say as the halfling somersaulted past and sprang to his feet with blood on his sword. Oh right, fighting for our lives. Hopping to her feet herself, she draws her rapier.
Standing provokes. Please, dice, don't kill me again. Drawing a weapon doesn't. Both are move actions, so that's my round. The good news is, I should be giving Dairkal flanking.
DM Owlbeard
No way. I stayed up all night and called the pathfinder-GM-in-trouble hotline for help finding a rule that would keep Menelei alive. Check out this jewel: She's is in an adjacent square and although the Dragoon get's AOO he's got a Lance. Which is a reach weapon.
His dog might paw at you a bit. Whatever. But you definately give Dair flanking...He's about to shwak the bastards good. I'm just too tierd to resolve the attack tonight!
Tinuviel Surana
Oh dear, Tinuviel thought, That is one very large goblin and it looks as though the pretty lady is in trouble. Well, we can not have that!
Boo runs to within thirty feet of the mounted goblin.
She will throw an acid dart at him when she gets to within thirty feet (next turn, I hope)
Eyotah
Eyotah glances behind her at the commotion surrounding Menelei. She's got help it seems, but the group might offer a tempting target. So... She aims carefully at the goblin on top of the tower, using a gravestone as cover. However, at the last moment something on the river side of the tower seems to distract it and the arrow whistles past harmlessly (though it does ruffle the feathers of a raven that seems to be flying past).
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
DM Owlbeard
Tinuviel Surana
Tinuviel hurls a dart of poisonous green at the large goblin without breaking stride. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 for 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage. She screeches to a halt and then readies her quarterstaff.
She gives her fiercest glare. Intimidation 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Alas, Tinuviel just isn't very scary or good at throwing acid darts sometimes.
DM Owlbeard
The Goblin ducks the Acid dart, then hisses with an amused laugh at the ferocious elf-wizard. Maybe after we kill this elf I kill that one, eh Humphry? he says, patting his hideous dog 'Humphry' on the neck. It makes an odd sound. Is it laughing? Intimidate Goblin Dragoon: DC10

PCs up again!!!
Tinuviel Surana
Tinuviel then flings yet another acid dart at the big mean goblin. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 for 1d6 ⇒ 5 of damage.
She does a little hop of frustration.
"Gah! Just die you mean thing you!"
Thumparr Ironfist
Thumparr raises his shield and runs balls out for the shore and then when he can, he hurls his axe at the human in the boat.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Growling in frustration, Thumparr leaps for the boat. "HEE-YAH!"
Can he take 10 on the Acrobatics? If not, here is his roll 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
All 200+ pounds of Dwarf and gear land in the boat and Thumparr growls, "Jump or die, you fraggin' gobbos!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
If he has any further actions that turn, he will pull his hammer and prepare to clear the boat or die trying!
DM Owlbeard
Wow! That dwarf can fly! I hope you don't kill my villain in the first encounter, lol!
Goblin Perception Check against Eyotah's 13 stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Villian Dex Check making sure the dwarf's impact doesn't knock him off the boat!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
goblin 1 swim check DC12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
goblin 2 swim check DC12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Aldern's Round 2 Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10 +2 for flanking
Aldern's Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
SO....
-------------Aldern's round 2 actions--------------
Aldern draws a curved blade from somewhere under his longtailed jacket, then swipes feebly at the Goblin Dog's leg but misses. Hm, I wonder if we are in over our heads...Wizard don't you have some spell that can bust this creep up???
I'll give Dair a few hours to wake up from last nights' parties and post his round 2 actions, then I'll post Goblin round 3:) Nothing keeps characters from roll playing in the mean time! YOU'LLS FIST PATHFINDER COMBAT OF 2013!
DM Owlbeard
Dice just aren't nice today...unless you are a dwarf:)[ooc]
[ooc]Also, forgot the two arrow shots the goblin in the tower makes at Thumparr while he was running for the boat:
1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 5
1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 9
which both miss. That guy sucks at shooting arrows. Shoulda put a hobgoblin up there!
------------------Round 3-------------------------

Thrusts at the goblin again... 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 ...missing completely again. You were saying about the dice? Same roll as last round. Take that, air!
Sees that the goblin is struggling with his mount and takes the opportunity to grab her bow off the ground and take a step back. At least I have some skill with the bow.
It looks like Aldern will give Dairkal flanking. Picking up the bow is a move action but not a move (though it does provoke ... hoping he's unable to make AoOs because he's trying not to fall off his critter) so I can take a 5' step back.
DM Owlbeard
The dog is shaken
Dairkal
The chart on the SRD, about actions in combat and if they prove says: Control a frightened mount, Yes. As I said, I do not know if it's the actual condition, especially if you read the section about Mounted Combat. Under that, it says a non combat trained animal is afraid of combat. It's your call if it's frightened enough for an AoO, but I'll post the attack if it provokes, just in case.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 AoO possible Crit
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 No confirm. 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (2) = 5
DM Owlbeard
Hm...I think you are right Dair. Since i've been having the dog make 'ride checks' it must be an untrained dog. In that case, the AOO hits, the Dragoon slumps in the saddle and then falls to the ground dying [-1/12 HP].
That also means I should have made the Dragoon do a 'push check' to see if he could make the dog charge Menelei at the beginning of the battle. Sorry! Thanks for looking up the rules for us Dair.
I think Eyotah gets a Round 3 turn, will apply it when she posts. In the mean time
----------------Round 4 Goblin Actions-------------------
PCs are up! Round 4 (Eyotah Round 3&4)
MAP UPDATED.
Eyotah
Eyotah takes aim at the goblin again, this time standing to get the best possible shot. She releases the arrow just as the goblin lets fly at her. The arrows streak past each other and her arrow strikes the small creature in its shoulder, whilst the goblin's arrow skims her cheek, drawing forth a thin stream of blood. Wincing, Eyotah releases another arrow at the goblin and again the arrow flies true.
Eyotah, satisfied that the goblin is out of action, turns and begins moving south along the edge of the cliff, trying to see what's happening on the boat. If the goblin is dead after the 1st shot, she runs south towards the boat.
Attack round 3: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 59
Damage round 3: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Attack round 4: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 81
Damage round 4: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Thumparr Ironfist
If Thumparr can see the man swimming in the water, he'll take aim with his crossbow and let fire.
Reflex check for balance: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Crossbow damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
"Eat that, ye fraggin' coward!"
Afterward, Thumparr begins to row the boat back to shore...
Tinuviel Surana
With the big goblin down, Tinuviel will run to the point of land where the boat was. If any goblins are in range she will attack them with acid splash (30 ft range). Other wise she will look about and see what is to be done for her fellow combatants.
DM Owlbeard
The goblin falls dying. Eyotah hears the wooden sound of it's composite bow clattering on the stone at the top of the tower.
Thumparr puts a crossbow bolt in the man's back as a last Hoorah. The current carries the man out of sight.
Tinuviel arrives at the bank just as Thumparr is rowing the boat back in.
--------------------End Combat------------------
Aldern steps up and helps the dwarf pull the boat onto the beach. He looks at the body. There is a SYMBOL carved through the burial garments and into the flesh of the poor man.
Aldern: It's the remains of Ezakien Tobyn, the former priest of Desna here in Sandpoint before the old Cathedral burned down. Sheriff Hemlock's special investigators concluded the fire was started by his foster-daughter, a women named Nualia. I don't know much more than that. We'd better inform the Sheriff about what we've seen here.
Menelei
Waiting until we all are close, Menelei whispers a silent prayer, "Dreamsinger, let your stars restore us."
She raises her arm, displaying the sleeve of her blouse embroidered with a swallowtail butterfly.
Channel, healing anyone who took damage for...1d6 ⇒ 6points. A good roll at last.
In a twinkling of starlight, the wound on her belly disappears. Smiling a little, pleased to feel the Goddess's power. Before the group leaves for the sheriff, she clears her throat.
"Thank you all. I am Menelei, and I am proud to have fought beside you." When she finishes, she turns to Aldern with an uncertain smile. "I owe you a life."
DM Owlbeard
---------------Rewards------------------
I'm not sure the best way to dole out xp and rewards in PBP. I doubt you all want to search every Goblin. Let me know if this method is fun or if we should do things a little differently!
You'll have to roll play to decide who gets what treasure, Mwahaha
With that, he shakes each of your hands offering you gratitude. With the exception of Menelei, whose hand he gently kisses in the fashion of proper respectable nobility. you owe me no life, lady he says 'twas only the proper thing to do. Then he whistles to his dog, and heads north, around the cathedral, dissappearing out of sight.
Collectively for these two encounters you have all earned 2200xp:
Goblin Warchanter: 200xp
Goblins X4: 500xp
Dragoon: 200xp
Dim light: 400xp (you didn't kill the dog)
Firework prevention: 400xp
Thwarting the grave robber: 500xp
We are on the fast advancement track, so level 2 will be 1300xp. This is a fat horde to hook you into the game and because i've had so much fun with you'll so far...
You are now in the sandbox of Sandpoint. Remember the map and key are on the campaign info thread. I will keep a running list of the quests you've showed interest in there too so you can all decide what to do. Again, you will have to roll play to decide what you do next, mwahaha!
Dairkal
So we leveled right? or am I seriously missing something?
Dair shakes the nobleman's hand "Uh, thanks. I've been staying at the Rusty Dragon for the last few months, since I arrived in Sandpoint. But I appreciate you offering to pay for several more days." He doesn't sound ungrateful, just wary.
Menelei
"An official party? Well ... um ... thank you," Menelei says, though the human has gone. That was brilliant. At least he didn't stick around to hear you babble like an idiot. Don't do this again. Wasn't the last time enough? It might be too late. The butterflies seem to have taken up residence inside her, and she feels a warm flush spreading over her cheeks.
She picks up the potion and the blade, with a final kick for the fallen dragoon, heads back towards the village. He saved your life, that's all. A few ales and you won't even remember him.
Tinuviel Surana
"I'm here in town, with my aunt and uncle." but the dashing human was gone. He only had paid attention to the pretty cleric anyway.
There just isn't any way for a working elf to get ahead. Boo thought bitterly. Why can't life be more straight forward? I'm young, not unattractive and I like most people. Except goblins. And orcs. And that whateveritwas back in Riddleport. But except for those I like people. Perhaps the inn had those clever little drinks, the ones with the gnome devices in them? What were they called? Oh yes, umbrellas. The situation definitely called for a fruity drink with an umbrella in it. If they didn't have umbrellas, maybe they would have white wine? Life was always better with wine and maybe some cheese?
"Is anyone up for a drink?" Boo asked as she headed towards the tavern.
Thumparr Ironfist
"Aye, Tin - I'm up fer one. Right after we talk to the Sheriff. And we need to go check on this dead feller's foster daughter too - Nualia. When I was heading to the boat, I overheard 'em mention her name - like she was somebody important to report to. I figure we catch up with her, she can answer some questions fer us. Ye know where we might find her, Aldern?"
I have the same question about the XP - the 2200 was group xp right?
DM Owlbeard
Yup, 2200 is group XP. So Thumparr get's 440xp. I'll post Individual XP from now on to avoid confusion. The Party must figure out how to split the treasure. I think the cleric is making off with the best stuff! Here is the treasure again so everyone knows (Prices are estimates. I don't know what the local shop owners will give you for this stuff):
-Goblin Horsecopper (same as mwk longsword but uglier), Menelei picked it up and is walking off.===>400gp?
-Potion of cure moderate wound, Menelei picked it up and is walking off. (2d8 hp)===>450
-Lance, still on the ground by the dead Dragoon.===>about 50gp?
-Backpack sitting open in the boat. Inside you can see about 500gp, and a Fabulous pearl necklace with seashell centerpiece. It makes you hear a women singing in your mind when you look at it:)
-Aldern's covers rooms at the Red Dragon for 5 days
-Aldern promises a financial reward for your help, meet him at the Red Dragon.
-Aldern says he has patrons that could use strong arms for hire.
As with any treasure horde, an appraise check might tell you what is truly the most valuable artifact.
DM Owlbeard
Aldern hearing check: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (14) - 4 = 10 Thumparr asks about Nualia but Aldern is already too far out the North cemetary gate to hear. Perhapse he could be asked over a drink at the Red Dragon? Or perhapse someone else knows more about this 'Nualia.'
