Going to go ahead and post my action rather than wait on Keelah as I highly doubt her actions will effect Jacen's now that he's got flank on his snake... SA!

Jacen lets out a clipped cry when the goblin snake bites down hard onto his arm, the creature's fangs piercing through his armor. He is able to wrench his arm free just as Elise tumbles into the melee, directly behind the creature and score a solid blow! He quickly follows up with a devastating jab with his kukri to the snake's heart!

He nods at Elise and takes a moment to examine his wound. "Nicely done. To the others!"

Round 2 (Ogres)

Elise darts across the floor of the room and then falls into a practiced position behind one of the snakes, her blade flashes. It is hardly a brief sparkle in the miniscule light, but the wound is serious.

The Ogress, the matron, rolls away from one snake only to see another is behind her. She panics and rolls back the other way just as the first snake lunges, its upper body snapping forward and biting her near her wound. She cries out in pain. Her children spring into action and the young male draws a long knife and charges the snake.

I’ve been struggling to make sure I keep the number and color of the various creatures consistent, I hope I got it right this time, let me know if you spot any mistakes, I will try to update the map tonight. Also, in the first post I made I used incorrect information for the AC for the Goblin Snakes, I forgot to make the improvements .

The guards rush to protect the matron, and in several blows they dispatch one of the snakes.

Kaleelah and Nala are up

Jacen shifts to his left, but the snake, reacting to Elise, dips and weaves, avoiding his blow.

After hearing the sounds of battle, Kaleelah woke up with a frightful start. Nala was already up on all fours, awaiting orders from her handler. After noticing a stray goblin snake not too far from her position, the druid quickly moved closer and began calling forth divine assistance to aid her allies.

"Go Nala!" the druid called out, pointing a hand in the direction to strike.

The armored lioness did not hesitant and immediately leapt at the closest enemy, jaws bared for a nasty bite.

Kaleelah timed her companion's assault with her celestial calling. The second the goblin snake turned its sights on Nala was the second that a celestial leopard materializes into existence. The newly summoned creature wasted no time in attacking its distracted enemy. Unfortunately, the snake's nimble form proved to be difficult to hit...

________________________________

Kaleelah moves to E10 and waits for Nala to get into position to summon a leopard at G14. The summoning is a standard action due to Lion Shaman archetype. Her armor is medium, so she does not sleep in it and is thus currently unarmored. Leelah hasn't prayed for new spells yet, so she's using the slots from the first day.

Nala charges to E12 and bites the goblin snake at F13. Nala wears light barding, so she can sleep with it on without penalty.

Mr. Leopard pops into existence at G14 and makes a full round attack against the goblin snake at F13.

Her dance ending in a wave of nausea and dry heaves, Azana blinks away the tears retching has brought to her eyes and fights to regain control of her rolling stomach. Although the spinning style of dancing she preferred didn't exactly appeal to her, Azana decided to try anyway - while quietly wishing she preferred singing.

Dancing take two - two to hit and damage, assuming I don't blow chunks this round.

Round 2, wrap up

Elise rolls up and off the stone floor, leaping into action as the fog of sleep fades from her mind. She commands her companion to attack the snake to the south, and Nala scrambles to her feet, claws clacking on the hard surface as she covers the distance in only a few strides. Nala lunge and tears a huge chunk of snake-flesh from the monsters hide, and then a Leopard appears form out of nowhere, behind the snake monster. The summoned cat attacks with teeth and claws, slashing cuts that ooze a sickly grey-green blood.

Round 3

Finally Azana manages to shake off the nausea and turning left then right she takes in the scene around her. Her body begins to sway, almost reflexively, as she begins to move in a dance to music only she can hear. Her friends, seeing her recover and begin her delicate rhythmic dance, are encouraged and bolstered by her moves.

Friendly reminder for Terquem about Snake Style & Snake Fang:

Snake Fang - If opponent misses you, make an attack of opportunity as an immediate action.
Snake Style - Gain +2 on Sense Motive checks, and deal piercing damage with unarmed attacks. While using the Snake Style feat, when an opponent targets you with a melee or ranged attack, you can spend an immediate action to make a Sense Motive check. You can use the result as your AC or touch AC against that attack. You must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed.

Syndir feels bones crush under the force of the blow, and the snake winces in pain.

The Snakes attack

The Goblin-Snake trapped between Elise and Jacen, slides to one side, spins in place and then lets out a noxious belch toward Elise.

SnakeLtBlue01 moves to D/4, and then breaths on Elise, this means she will have to make a DC 15 fortitude save, or be overcome with nausea for one round – Note this is a stronger breath weapon than a standard Goblin-Snake

The Goblin-Snake trapped between two large cats, panics, turning from side to side, before it too slides back a few feet and breaths on Nala and the Ogre.

SnakeGreen_o5 moves to E/a4, and then breathes on Nala and OgreYellow_01. Nala will need to make another Fortitude save, DC 15.

OgreYellow_01 Save versus DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The Ogre staggers back, overcome with the fumes.

The Goblin-Snake at the east end of the building attacks the Ogre with a bite

melee Bite versus AC 16: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage if >15: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

This Ogre, already weakened by one bite, is bitten again.

The Goblin-Snake fighting Syndir sneers at the westerner, and dips, before lunging at him with another Bite. I will simply make the attack roll and a possible damage roll, Syndir can make his Sense Motive check on this second attack, and then we will determine of the damage was done or not, okay

Melee Bite against Syndir: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Despite her keen sense of smell, Nala effortlessly shrugged off the goblin snake's bad breath. The armored lioness quickly glanced over to her leopard ally and growls lowly, getting a similar response in turn. With that 'said' and done, the two cats coordinated their assault together and leapt at their foe, showing the wounded goblin snake no mercy.

Meanwhile, Kaleelah moved over to Azana's side and called up another leopard to assist Syndir. It materialized right behind goblin snake the Westerner was facing and quickly unleashed its own flurry of claws and bites, getting at least one good hit on the enemy.

Nala five foot steps to D13 and waits for Leopard 1 to do so as well before attacking. After that, she full round attacks the goblin snake at E14.

Leopard 1 five foot steps to F15 and full round attacks the goblin snake at E14.

Leelah moves to B10 and summons another leopard to A5. She has one three level slot left.

I will also post my action as well, since I don't know what type of night I have in store for me at work... lol

Seeing Elise reeling from the foul breath of the goblin snake Jacen prepares his final attack. "Don't give up on me now, Elise!" The rogue leaps forward, slashing his blade at the goblin snake's neck. Jacen's aim is true and his trusty weapon connects with deadly results; his blade slices deep into the back of the snake's neck and bursts clean through out the front, nearly severely the creature's head completely and spraying foul blood towards poor Elise.

Jacen stands still as the warm blood splatters and the creature flops about before laying still. "Come."

(sorry about last post...) and given that Jacen's damage is higher than the goblin snake's max HP, I thought I'd take a little liberty with my post and kill off the snake with a dramatic flourish.

Day 2, morning

Something has changed.

In the middle of the night the party was attacked by strange goblin-snake-like creatures. Maybe it was the darkness, maybe it was this place, but it felt as if those monsters were possessed by something and driven to throw their lives away attacking you.

When the fighting was finished, some of you were still feeling the effects of the poisonous breath of the foul creatures, not to mention a few wounds from the bite of the fangs of those monsters.

When you have rested, after the battle, each of you recovers your Constitution Modifier in Hit Points, but no more than that. You feel weak, and believe that you did not recover as well as you normally do due to the foul nature of this place

The morning begins with a red sun rising over the walls of the temple compound to the east. There is a fog, and the air is heavy with a mist that is not rain, but more of a heavy wetness that hangs in the air.
But more than anything else, you can see, all around you that something has changed, something disturbing. Either the ground around you is rising, or the buildings of the temple are sinking.

It must have happened slowly, through the night, or maybe it is always happening but it is happening too slowly to see when you are awake and on edge looking out for danger, but the building you are in is three, possibly four feet lower than you remember it was the day before. It stands only a foot or maybe two above the ground (wasn’t it five feet above the ground yesterday?). In the distance, to the south, the main buildings of the temple appear lower and all around you what was dry ground the day before is now only patches of high ground here and there surrounded by huge areas of still dark water.

There is one other thing that bothers all of you, it is a memory, of a friend, but you cannot remember his name, it is as if he was with you only yesterday, but now it seems like he never existed at all. You each struggle with this disjointed memory, and eventually convince yourself that it is a memory of Timothy that is plaguing you, and you only imagined he was with you recently.

Elise stirs in the morning, feeling out of sorts. Her wounds from the previous day still lingered on her body. Maybe she had inhaled too much of that awful goblin breath.

She looks around at her companions. There was Syndir, Jacen, Azana, Kaleelah and Nala, and... wasn't there supposed to be someone else? She goes up to Jacen and nudges him awake.

"Psst. Jacen, hey Jacen! Someone's gone missing? He ... well I think it's a he... he's gone! Right? Look around, isn't someone missing?"

"It must have been a dream," Azana replied. But what a strange dream for two of us to have. "You can ask the Ogres if there was someone with us last night whose missing now, but it had to have been a dream. This place is vile. I swear I can feel it seeping into my bones."

Maybe that was why she felt so...odd. It was almost like being a guest in her own body. Everything felt fine, but it was subtly wrong, like staying in a house you didn't know well. But she seemed to be OK other than that, so it couldn't be anything major. Could it? There had been a lot of strangeness - the vision, the dream before the attack last night...maybe it meant more than she could guess right now?

Frowning, she noted the wounds still present on Elise. "Do you want me to take care of those for you?"

"I'm fine, Azana. It's just a scratch." Elise presses her palms to her temples. "What I really need is something for my head. Ugh!" Elise starts to jump up and down, as if she could shake out the memories. The whole scene looks rather childish. "Well, I guess we'd better find some higher ground before this whole building sinks into the muck! The big building to the south is probably our best bet, don'cha think? I'll look for a good path from the roof." Elise climbs up again and looks for a suitably dry path that could take them there.

Day 2, morning

Elise returns to the roof, while the rest of you notice that the ogres are buzzing with activity.

Elise:
From the roof of this building you can see practically every other structure in the compound. You have a pretty good feeling that the walls and towers of the perimeter, as well as the largest of the buildings (to the extreme east) are not sinking, but that every other structure, including the central oval shaped building is in fact sinking. The ground is wet in almost every clear area you can see (areas where the ground can be seen through the vegetation) and a dry path (other than slogging back to the wall and getting to the top of it, then back to the entrance stairs at the west, and from there down the central corridor) is not available. Also, the jungle vegetation is strangely still and quiet. The air is heavy with moisture, and though there is not a fog, there is a haze in the air, and the sun is a blurred yellow orb behind grey skies.

Jacen groans as Elise nudges him awake, but then sits up with a start at the urgency in her voice. He glances around with an irritated look, blinking the sleep from his eyes. There did seem something was off. "I... well... Perhaps you're right."

He then seems to notice his wounds still appeared fresh, as if they never even healed over. He removes his wand from his belt pouch... UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 and lets out a sigh of relief as the healing spell works magic upon his wounds.

As the others begin waking up they all spot the temple was sinking. 'I do not like this one bit. We need to hurry and save... Wait...'

He quietly follows Elise up to the roof. "Elise, what are we doing here? I mean... why are we here? I can't remember who we are here to save."

Elise scratches her head. "Whadya mean? We're here to save Timothy. You remember, right? Our brave warrior. The one who died the last time we were in a place like this."

"Anyway, seems like everything is sinking, except the walls and the tall building to the East. I don't see a good way to avoid getting wet, except to get back to the walls. So we could try the walls, but I say we get to the middle of this compound, then head East to the buildings."

The usually chipper Kaleelah did not say much after waking up. With a gesture, she ordered Nala to her side and began praying for new spells. The armored feline complied. Interestingly, all of the druid's bandages from the previous day were off, revealing the cute blonde woman underneath and not a mummy.

Day 2, morning

Once Elise has made her best assessment of the surrounding area, and shown Jacen what she can see from the roof, the two of them return to the main floor. Kaleelah has finished her morning rituals, as well as Syndir and Azana. When it seems that the Ogres have been unnaturally quiet for too long, your worry is confirmed as the leader of the guard, F'Lagjorn, approaches the group and lowers his head.

”My friends,” He begins solemnly, ”I am sorry to tell you that we have had a change of plans. The conditions here are too dangerous, and we have talked among ourselves and decided to leave this place as soon as we can. We will be building a little for the woman today, and then we will set out for the gate. After that we will continue west in the hope of finding our way. We want to thank you for all of your help, and wish you all good luck and may you all find what you are looking for in this cursed place and leave it behind you in good health.”

Do you have a plan for where you will go now?

Syndir rose from his prayers and immediately went into the first form he learned. The Sam Chin Po, or First Steps; was the basis for his his whole system and helped calm his mind from disturbubg dreams of the previous night.

Once done he joined his friends where they were talking with F'Lagjorn and nodded at the ogres' plan.

More than understandable. Fleet speed and safe travels to you and yours.

If I understand right, we're somewhere in the northwest corner of the compound, and the tall buildings are toward the east. And there's a nearby building to the southeast. So I think we should go to that next building.

male

I realize this has stalled, but I'm not sure what we are waiting on. Is it me? Do you want to talk to each other about your next move, cause it really seems like you don't want to do that. Can I make this a better game, please help me see what I am doing wrong.

Day 2, morning (time is approximately 10:00 pm) | Turn 1

When the party hears that the Ogres are intending to leave, they gather together and talk among themselves. The group of ogres is at a serious disadvantage, two of their number will need to carry the matron, and two more of their number seem disabled from the encounter of the night before.

It is decided that you will wait until the Ogres are ready and then escort them to the exit, the steps that access the temple on the western wall.

Working as fast as they can, the Ogres fashion a litter from two of their pole arms, and a collection of robes gathered from everyone in their group. The matron is carefully loaded onto the litter, and the Ogres tell you they are ready to leave.

Then looking carefully all around, you step out of this building into the waters surrounding it.

It is slow going. You move with measured steps, and watch the water intently for any sign of trouble. The air is still, and even the noises of the wetlands seem to have diminished.

In a while you reach the steps and are grateful to be out of the knee deep and brackish water. The ogres bid farewell, and set out to the north.

You now gather at the covered portico that extends to the east and leads toward the first of the Temple Buildings in the center of the compound.

It is thirty feet between the columns. The floor is chocked with vines and debris.

Azana sighed at the plants. "Trust derelict temples of evil to forget the important extras, like gardening." The Bard started to pick her way across the open area, squishing with every step thanks to her now water logged footware. Still, it didn't stop her scanning the environment, trying to spot potential ambushes as she headed forwards.

Elise wades through the muck, which seems to come up to her waist given her height. "This is really gross! Let's hurry toward an actual building." She leads the way.

Jacen trudges along with the others, his usual silent, brooding self. He ponders over all the recent changes; the strange dreams and feelings, the fact that he's not even sure if the person they're here to save even exists, the flooding. "Agreed, I would like to find drier land as well. I don't want some nasty snake sneaking up and biting me."

Day 2, Morning

Making their way eastward along the portico, the party steps over roots and vines that litter the causeway.

Ahead of them looms a huge building, easily forty feet high. The walls, unlike the building to the north, of this structure are solid and there is no way to see what might be within. As they get closer to the building they can see that there is a opening, ten feet wide and fifteen feet high that leads from the portico into the building. It is dark inside the building and an ominous silence fills the air.

"Stay close, but not too close." Elise creeps forward silently, slightly ahead of the group. She keeps an eye out for traps and danger.

His mind clear after prayer and his body in tune after practicing several forms; Syndir was much more at peace than he had been after first awakening.
The Westerner was quiet and pensive during the ogres solemn departure and eyed the mucky waters with disdain before removing his silken slippers and hoisting his baggy pants and robes. His precautions were to no avail as the water level was too high to save him from the discomfort of having damp clothes. He hissed under breath as he followed the others.
Stopping at Elise's warning, Syndir peered inside the dark building.

Azana moved along with the others, somewhere near the middle where she could offer some support to the whole group with her magic and dancing. "I hope you guys without all seeing, darkvision enhnced eyes have something to help inside this one."

Day 2, Morning

As you approach the opening in the wall you all have a feeling of dread mingled with a pull that calls you forward. There is a short flight of steps and then what appears to be a ten foot hall that enters this building. The hall extends forty feet into the darkness of the building and then you can just barely make out that it opens up somewhat. You pause, before entering to discuss your plans

There is a map now, and you can discuss your plans for what you will do next.

Syndir:
You can see that the walls are covered from floor to ceiling with carvings that are of so many different things that a casual glance tells you nothing but that you would need to study the walls for some time before you can make any sense out of the images depicted.

Jacen:
You can see that the walls are covered from floor to ceiling with carvings that are of so many different things that a casual glance tells you nothing definitive, and even if you did study the walls for some time, you are almost certain you would not understand the significance of the images. Then, just when you are sure the walls are insignificant you notice a few of the carvings have much deeper looking holes than other carvings.

Syndir stood in the small puddle created by his dripping garments staring at the bas relief on the walls... theres a clue here...but it eludes me... He shot a look Azana's way at her statement and realized he was having no difficulty seeing in the dark.

These carvings have a power behind their depiction. Azana can you make anything from them?

The sun darkened man withdrew the small cut stone from his pouch and set it spinning around his head before hissing a few sharp words to strengthen it's light.

Releasing Ioun Torch and casting Light upon it

Day 2, Morning

Syndir pauses a few feet into the temple and summons forth a magical light that circles the air just above his head. The glow spreads out and pushes back the darkens casting irregular shadows on the relief carvings on the walls and revealing, ahead of him, an obelisk. It looks as though that the passageway that leads into this temple area opens up into some kind of chamber ahead, but then ten feet past that is a square stone column that is oddly smooth on the side facing him and the stone is painted a dark red color.

As Syndir observes the stone a strange sort of rage swells inside of him

Syndir:
Make a Will Save, DC 16. If you fail, you are angry and want to lash out at anyone that disagrees with anything you say.

I am, I like this site too much to just up and leave, but it may be time to rethink where this game is going. I keep letting myself have unreasonable expectations, it has never been something I blame the players for. I put it all on me. Seems like even during encounters each character just wants to show how they can do what they were built to do, and there is practically no pre planning, or discussion of how the group can act to support each other. Don't get me wrong, I think you guys worked hard on the builds and your characters are awesome, really fleshed out, but I don't know, it's like I was expecting too much. I don't really want to be the DM that just keeps throwing monsters at you all to see if I can overcome your talents, and the things that I've introduced that I thought would create dialog or raise questions, just hasn't worked. I think I set myself up with too high of a bar on this one.I am sorry for disappointing all of you.

Don't be so hard on yourself, Terquem. I agree that the group really hasn't clicked too well. I'm still wondering why.

Yikes! Hey guys, terribly sorry. I didn't see the other posts from Terquem up there. I'd been having issues with the new post indicator coming up for a while I had been waiting for an update from Terquem. I just started my shift, but in a few I'll look over the posts better and have a post of my own!

Jacen stares at the carvings on the wall and at first dismissing them as something beyond his knowledge; however, despite his dismissal he was reluctant to look away. He examines them closer and that's when he spots the deeper carving of certain symbols. "Some of these symbols have deeper scouring marks. Perhaps there is some meaning behind this? Syndir, what do you think?"

Jacen begins to examine the relief more closely to determine if there is a pattern to the strange patterns. "Perhaps we may find some answers to this strange place..." he whispers.

Syndir snapped out of his mental battle. Relief from the victory over the stirring wyrm loosened his often held tongue.

I agree that there is something deeper here. Whether the answer to the riddle of this temple or not I cant tell.

The Kelishite seemd to wrestle with a decision before continuing.

For a moment there I almost lost control of my emotions.

Not elaborating, Syndir folded his hands behind his back. These were his dearest friends after all and should understand the weight of that statement.

Instead he hissed a few sharp words and crooked a few of his fingers as he focused on the carvings.

Cast Detet Magic

I regret that this game has not panned out. I think it's an interesting story, and I do wish I could have found out the truth behind this mystery. But I believe it's time to bow out. I wish you all the best - perhaps we'll meet again.
