Rythan felt his body waver as the lizardman's poison ran like fire through his veins. "Their weapons - there's some kind of poison on them!" Still, he twisted his fingers in the air at the chieftain, uttering words that seemed to hang in the air before he slashed at the creature. "If you won't see reason, eat THIS!" he snarled.

I'm a little unsure if I actually get an extra scimitar attack from spellstrike. In case I do:

scimitar dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

I'm gonna insist on this one - wouldn't Heledar have been entitled an AoO when we were first attacked? Assuming he does not need to take a 5' step back to attack with his reach weapon:
"They are simply ignoring me" - Heledar comments to his companions - "Defend yourselves as you can friends. A capture would most likely garner us most needed information, but do not risk yourselves for it" - he adds.
As he speaks, the divine link he shares with his companions, partially transfers Rythanus' wounds to the Aasimar - As it should be - he ponders - "We have no quarrel with you, but we will defend ourselves" - he roars at the closest opponent, swinging his weapon in a wide arc.
Rythanus heals 5 points of damage through Life Link ;)

As one of the lizard creatures comes close, Heledar takes advantage of the longer reach from his weapon to try and trip their opponent, stopping it dead on its tracks.
Not sure which one got closer first.

GM Birch
Heledar manages to trip the other lizardfolk attacker, leaving just the chief standing up.
Next round proper
Just read through the rules properly. Combat reflexes allow you to make an AoO whilst flat-footed. So that's spot on. However, if you do not have the Improved Trip feat, initiating a trip provokes an attack of opportunity from your target. So - next time you try it, it'll give the creature you're trying to trip an AoO. Hope that makes sense
Talarin Durand
So long as Heledar keeps tripping things at reach, his provoking an AoO from the target shouldn't matter so long as the target itself doesn't have reach as well. =)
"Let's try this again, hmm?" Rain's whip darts out toward the chief lizardfolk's morningstar a second time. "You could put an eye out with this if you're not careful," she playfully chides.

Much like Talarin said, I was under the impression that having a reach weapon would allow me to try the maneuver as an AoO without myself being the target of an AoO, unless my opponent also has reach - isn't that correct?

His weapon still crackling with unspent electricity, Rythan moved to flank the chief with Rumha, though his muscles suddenly felt like water. Through gritted teeth, he snarled, "You may have poisoned me, but I'm going to kill you before the end!"

Heledar, thanks for the life link! :) Though it probably doesn't work on poison, I'm guessing?
Heledar
Yeah... Unfortunately Life Link does nothing about poisons or other status ailments :/ But hey, take care of the bad guys, and then I can use the Heal skill on you. I've managed an half decent skill level in it (though I forgot to buy Antitoxin...), so maybe we can stave off that poison fast ;)
Actually, after seeing that Magus damage burst... Wow, it may already be over :D
Rythanus Wintrish
Haha, nice catch Rain! If this were a cartoon, we'd have seen the chief's skeleton for a while there.
Rythan had no attention to spare the defeated lizardfolk. Staggering a little, he wiped his weapon clean on the chieftain's crisped hide, then sheathed it with some effort. Then he bent over with his hands on his thighs, trying to catch his breath.

"Ask it if it carries an antitoxin," he wheezed to Heledar, feeling weaker, but not quite as harshly as a few moments before. Gathering himself, he looked around for their new smelly friend, hoping the attack hadn't scared him off into the bushes.
Heledar
The fight was going badly for the lizardfolk and then it got a whole lot worse. Rythanus kills their leader with a devastating strike.
The remaining lizardfolk remains on the ground and holds its hands up in surrender. Looking to Heledar, it says (in its own tongue), "Spare me."
"Very algbo" - Heledar acquiesces -"do wux kampiun wer common ooble? tir wux tepoha vin antidote ihk wer weyog?"
"Very well" - Heledar acquiesces - "Do you understand the common tongue? Do you have an antidote for the poison?"
"Let us see if he understands our language" - Heledar comments to his companions, approaching the lizardman, keeping his weapon pointing at him.
"Stay still - yth geou bind wux, shar wux geou ti qe killed. xoal ekess jutosh vur dout tobor ui wiivekiik"
"Stay still - we will bind you, but you will not be killed. Try to escape and your life is forfeit"
"I have told him to stay still, else his life is forfeit - Grob, will you search and bind him? I need to see to Rythanus" - the oracle requests.
If everything goes as expected:
Heledar approaches Rythanus, searching his backpack for his healer kit, he starts tending to his companions - "Let me see if I can help" - he comments with a smile.

"Now they want to talk? Pfah! Figures!" Rain snaps her whip loudly as she draws the length of it in to coil and replace on her hip. She then lowers her head and intones a few words before raising her gaze to meet the kneeling lizardfolk. "We wanted to talk from the start, why should we show these bloodthirsty brutes any more consideration than what they were planning to pay us?" Her words are meant for her friends, though her eyes remain locked with the lizardfolk's.

Oops, that last save should have been at +4 too. Looks like I still scraped by, barely!

Wobbling drunkenly, Rythan made his way over to a fallen log and sat abruptly. Despite Heledar's best efforts, the magus' blood continued to burn, and he broke out in a sweat. "I knew coming here was a gamble, but tell me my luck isn't running out on account of a lizardman," he croaked in disgust, with a dark look at the late chief.
GM Birch
The lizardman looks at Heledar. In his own tongue he says, "I do not speak the Common language. We have no need for an antidote to the poison, we are not affected by it."
As you look over the bodies, Dusan appears from the bushes. "He's quite right, they seem to have built up some sort of immunity over time. It's a local poison - essentially water from a rather horrible lake nearby. I have a poultice I can offer..."
Heledar is able to stablisise Rythanus but has neither the equipment nor the skill to cure him.
9 x vials of poison, bracers of armor +1, 3 x javelin, 1 x spear, 2 x masterwork morningstars, some precious stones (worth 31 gp), 3 x heavy wooden shield, 3 x morningstar
You do not suspect the lizardman understood you when you poke Common.
Rythanus Wintrish
"I appreciate the sentiment, Grob, but you don't want to let it drag you down to its level," Rythan said, slumping on the log. "Though, if it should suffer a slap or two upside the head, you wouldn't hear my ghost complain."
He looked over at Dusan, feeling too weak to wave him over. "I'll take that poultice, and you have my thanks," he said, mentally taking back all the times he'd wrinkled his nose at the man's smell while they'd been trekking here. "If it works as well as whatever you used to treat your leg, I'll be fine again in no time!"
I think Heledar has to keep making Heal checks in order to help Rythan, but I'll go ahead and roll here, and we can add the +4 later if Heledar makes the DC of the poison. Who knows, maybe Dusan's poultice will actually help, too. ;)

Whew! Thanks, Heledar!
After a bit more intense work by Heledar, Rythan finally felt the burning sensation in his blood begin to ebb down to a dull ache in his joints. He looked terrible, being pasty-faced and sweaty, but his grin of gratitude to Heledar (and Dusan?) was bright. "Thought I was a goner for a minute there. Thanks - I won't forget it." Still, he looked fairly wobbly as he attempted to stand.
"Right, enough time wasted here," he said with determination, picking up a long stick to lean on. "Let's interrogate this lizardfolk and get out of here before its friends show up and wonder what the chief is doing lying down."
Wiping his forehead with his sleeve, he scowled at the lizardfolk. "Someone tell it that I'm about to lose my lunch all over it if it doesn't get talking," he joked, his tone vicious, at odds with his words. He drew his scimitar and began to limp towards the lizardfolk with a murderous expression.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 LOL! I guess he doesn't look strong enough to scare anyone at the moment.
Heledar
"Very well" - Heledar retorts, then turns to the lizard creature - "Tell udoka kii wux tepoha slathalina wer cultrizz - astahii re hesi irlymi, vur nomagqe yth jalla qe latali. Tir wux vucot svaklar astahii re harkt jaka? Vur asta viprekilic?"
"Tell us why you have fought the cultists - they are our enemies, and perhaps we should be allies. Do you know where they are right now? And their numbers?"
GM Birch
I'm back - sorry, real life intervened...
"We fought because they invaded our land - as you did - this is not allowed."
"We were a hunting party and we laid an ambush for the masked men and killed many of their number, though we lost dozens of ourr own in the glorious battle. We drove away the masked men." He seems pleased with this fact.
"We were going to follow them to attack them again. There is no alliance with human-kind. As for their numbers, maybe a dozen left alive?"
The battlefield is awash in dropped or tossed-aside gear, if you want to pick over the bodies of the fallen.
Rythanus Wintrish
"It doesn't seem very open to working with us," Rythan observed when Heledar had translated the lizardfolk's words. "Unless you can convince it otherwise, we may have to tie it up and leave it here. Whatever the case, I think we should move on soon."
He felt too weak to pick through the battlefield, so he remained leaning against his stick, trying not to wrinkle his nose at the smell of his poultice.
Heledar
Heledar shakes his head - "I guess you are correct Rythanus, he does not seem very inclined to cooperate... I am not very happy with simply leaving him tied up here. I think we should let him go, as he poses no threat to us" - he nods.
"And maybe we can continue on our way?" - he adds, looking at the others.
Heledar
"I understand your reasoning friends, but simply cannot execute a defeated creature" - Heledar speaks to his companions, unusually somber - "One things is combat, and confrontation. Another one is execution" - then looks at each of them - "I ask you please to acquiesce, and leave him to his own devices. Another death brings nothing, while mercy can change the world"
BOOOM! :D
Rythanus Wintrish
"I agree," Rythan said weakly, wiping residual sweat from his forehead. "Whatever we are, we're not like them."
He looked at Heledar. "Do you want to make one last try to turn it to our cause? Otherwise, I suggest you impress upon it the dangers of causing us any more trouble before you let it go."
We only tried getting information from it, right? Who knows, maybe an attempt to change its attitude might help.
Did anyone else search the battlefield for loot? We should probably get rid of any poison it might pick up again, if not the weapons...
Rumha Varju
Rumha mulls the options, "I expect there are other dangers on the isle. Perhaps this fellow could lead us by safer paths to catch up with the Razmirans. The sooner we catch them, the sooner we leave the island to him and his people."
If push comes to shove, I say we let him live. If he carries back our mission to his people, maybe they'll leave us alone.
Talarin Durand
"He's already flatly said he won't help us. They see us as invaders and we're not going to change his mind, no matter how gracious or understanding we deign to be." Rain plucks through the field, sorting out the useable items as the group discusses it. "Do what you will with him, just don't expect him to help us."
