You have all been summoned to Oppora in Taldor. Venture Captain Muesello has learned of a valuable opportunity for an enterprising band of Pathfinders to recover some long lost information being horded by the Lion's Blades in Taldor. You have been instructed to report to his bait and tackle shop inside the city.

Once you arrive, Venture Captain Muesello's face breaks into a smile as bell on the door jingles. He engages in friendly small talk as he waits for the rest of the party to arrive.

First to arrive is a bulky Oread. He looks heavily fortified donning a heavy armor and a large shield. He carries his shield on him at all times on his left hand; He never seems to unlatch it for any moment as far as you can tell. The Oread screams as a loyalist to Adabar, wearing a wooden holy symbol around his neck. His shield bears the symbol of scales, Iconic to Adabar, and his mace inscribed at the handle a similar symbol.

His shield is consecrated and his Mace is Sanctified (Adventurer's Armory)

He greets those who come in later, with a deep masculine and rough voice, "Good day, I am Oret, a humble servant and knight of Adabar." Pausing, he takes a good look to finally realise where he recognise a few of the faces. "Aha! You are the ones who saved those poor souls from the Whip drug. Well met. Who knew our paths would cross once again."

Since we have 4 people checked in, and I want to make sure we are done by June, I'm going to move this along. Feel free to chime in with introductions if you haven't already.

When you all arrive, Venture captain Muesello motions for everyone to gather in the building’s back room before locking up the shop and propping a sign in the window that reads “Gone fishing.” Lady Glorianna Morilla sits at a table by a small fireplace and Muesello introduces her with the full formalities as a guest of the Society.

Venture-Captain Muesello quietly closes the door behind
him before speaking.

The Pathfinder Society does not have a sterling reputation in Taldor, despite my and others’ efforts to impress the local moves and shakers. As a result, the most prestigious universities and colleges often deny our agents access to the best libraries in Oppara, thinking we are meddling good-for-nothings. As one of the oldest intact civilizations near the Inner Sea, these libraries no doubt house some very precious volumes. Recently we received a most wonderful opportunity—an invitation, really, from a very powerful patron , he adds as he withdraws a scroll tube with a broken wax seal from his apron.

This patron will secure us a couple hours in the rare books collection at the Kitharodian Academy, during which we may peruse for whatever we wish so long as we also retrieve several documents of interest for our friend. That is where things get interesting. Apparently there is an even more precious archive hidden beneath the academy’s library, and our patron believes it to contain numerous original records and undoctored historical accounts otherwise
unknown to the world! Our contact knows how to get into the archive and has shared the secret with us.

Two hours is little time, so you must make the most of your time. I know it will be tempting to research other interests, but it would be selfish for the Society to think of itself when the Worldwound’s borders threaten to envelop Mendev and beyond. I am sending you in with the express purpose of uncovering more information about the Shining Crusade, the sustained war against the Whispering Tyrant a
millennium ago.

Lady Morilla snaps open a fan to fend off the room’s growing warmth, adding, Historically, Taldor is the authority on massive military campaigns, but most texts have undergone extensive revision to serve some political agenda or another. Entering this hidden archive is an excellent opportunity to learn from the real mistakes of the past and apply those lessons to the Mendevian Crusade. Remember that you have permission to be in the academy’s library, but not in this
secret archive, so do everything you can to avoid being noticed while exploring. In fact, the fewer clues you leave of your passage, the better. Specifically do not steal or destroy any of the library’s contents. A few slip-ups might alert the authorities that someone has been poking around, and too many with give them enough evidence to trace this act to us.

Muesello opens a drawer in the table and begins pulling out
a couple small parcels wrapped in cloth. Any questions?

"Why enter where we have no permission, I cannot condone this. Do you gave evidence of wrong doing? If so we should bring them to light and work with the law." He glances back at the Venture Captain's way.

To Flynn, There is indeed a specific two hour time frame. Tomorrow evening, the Kitharodian Academy will host an extravagant orchestral performance in celebration of the Grand Prince's birthday. It should last several hours, and attract the attention of most of the guards. In addition, you do have permission to be in the library, if not explicit permission to enter the hidden archives.

Muesello slides a cloth wrapped parcel towards the PCs. And there is this. It is a Deck of Illusions that I am modifying. You'll have one card for each of your party. Stick them to the bottom of a chair and it will create an illusion of you sitting in the chair studying. It only lasts for two hours, and you should make sure you remove it when you exit.

Responding to Syl'las's question, Muesello says As it is a hidden archive, we don't expect there to be much in the way of guards. Secrecy is it's best defense. However, be wary, there may be some traps or other hidden defenses.

Hearing Oret's misgivings, Muesello says Well, the patron of this mission...Princess Eutropia. Muesello seems reluctant to mention her by name, but he continues, does have authority to grant access to the archive, but wishes her involvement to be kept secret. So, while the Lion's Blades don't know you have her permission to be there, and will likely try to apprehend you if you are discovered, it isn't strictly illegal for you to be there. Furthermore, except for the text she requested, you will not be stealing anything from the Library. However, this is still a rare opportunity to learn some valuable information from the archives. I would like you to transcribe as much as you can from books relating to the Silver Crusade, but do not remove any of the books. And finally, our patron has requested this mission because over the years, the Taldor nobles have altered the history books for political gain. She wishes to recover the true, unaltered history of Taldor in order to restore the right and lawful rules of the country.

As for if you get caught... well, I certainly hope this isn't necessary, but if you give Princess Eutropia's letter to whoever captures you, they should release you, but it does kind of mean the mission would be a failure, as her involvement and goals will become known.

You have a day to purchase supplies and whatnot before the concert. Muesello also gives you a potion of invisibility and a scroll of pass without trace for use in the mission.

He says that Ambrus Valsin contacted him with this message, which is written in a Taldan cipher that the Society has yet to crack. If you find any notes about old codes that work for this message, report back with your findings.

Having made any preparations you deem appropriate, the night of the grand performance at the Kitharodian Academy draws near. The Kitharodian Academy sits atop the northern cliffs of Oppara and has an impressive view of the Porthmos River valley. The school boasts architecture as lovely as its music, and elegant domes, towers, and columns adorn the principle music hall. On the night of the performance, mirror-focused lanterns and dancing lights illuminate the structure, making the academy a radiant beacon of Taldor’s greatness.

The building is increasingly crowded, but they part before you, lest they risk being trampled by a Mvumbu. Ushers rush about escorting guests to their seats and otherwise directing traffic. The Academy is quite large, and the location of the library is not immediately obvious.

"Ah yes. Look at this statue. See how its arm moves? It can be pointed at that scroll opposite. Kiboko thinks we should select one of these words: Innovation, respect,
knowledge, courage, integrity, honor, excellence, glory. But which?"

Kiboko closely examines the statue in case of traps. Not sure whether the second perception check already covered that.

I didn't realize we had started, sorry.

"Are the guests finally here?" An elven woman sits at the table, reading some books on the history of Abadar. She smiles when the party approaches. "A fine evening, isn't it? The perfect opportunity to find the perfect book. But I shouldn't be such a tyrant. I'll whisper some more."

@Yogadragon, the same way we put out character stats in our alias's header. It's probably better to create a GM alias.

"Integrity.. It's always integrity.. Those with integrity will not let the power of wealth corrupt them." Oret points to the statue's arm and mutters "Integrity," before Flyn has a chance to mutter the other words.

Reaver's Roar

Kiboko, the scroll is just a first level scroll

Flynn is about to reach for the arm when Oret steps in front of him. Oret points the arm at "Integrity" and waits expectantly. After a few moments of nothing happening, Flynn steps up and poitns the arm to the words Honor, Courage, then Glory. The party waits expectantly for a few moments before hearing a soft audible click of a lock opening, and the secret door pops open. Behind the secret door is a short hallway with a spiral staircase at the end.

The party is free to make any preparations they want here before heading down into the library.

The staircase descends 20 feet before ending in a small unremarkable room. There is a door to the east, which, upon testing is unlocked. Outside the door, there is a long hallway. This long stone hallway stretches from north to south with several sets of doors along its east and west walls. The south wall bears a 10-foot-square field of carved divots that create no particular pattern. An inscription above the carving reads “The keenest eyes cannot see everything. Always remember to see the big picture.”

perception DC20:
The carving is a clever autostereogram, a
two-dimensional pattern of dots that can create a visual illusion of a three-dimensional image when viewed correctly—a process that is easier when the viewer loses focus rather than focuses too hard. When viewed correctly, the message 'Our monarch's virtues are our own'

Feel free to make whatever preparations before entering the library. I'll post descriptions of the first few rooms during lunch or tonight. The way things work in the library is that there are a series of rooms for you to search. They take different amounts of time based on their size. More people searching a room will get the room searched faster. When searching a room, you make linguistics, Knowledge(history) or some text-based craft of profession check (such as craft(bookbinding)). Some rooms have additional skills that can be used, and given a reasonable justification I will allow pretty much any skill to be used (though perhaps with a modifier). Based on how well you do, you will discover books containing information you are after as well as clues that will help you on further skill checks to search the library.

How could it not be integrity?

A disappointed Oread follows the party down the spiral staircase. He takes a good look at the sign, but makes nothing intelligible of it.

"Good...before we leave, we need to put our illusion cards into different chairs and activate them..."

When done, Flyn says, "Eery...a reflection of ourselves. We only have a short time...are we ready to go?"

Once everyone is ready, Flyn will make sure the illusions are set well. When the last of the party has entered the stairwell, he will try to cover up any obvious signs that might show the party has been messing with the statue and the secret door. He will then close the door behind him and descend with the party...

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Spying the carving with the secret message, Flyn informs the others. "It says 'Our monarch's virtues are our own'"

Flyn frowns. "Another motto of the Lion Blades, perhaps?"

The Maiden pulls out her Illusory card and grins as she sees her doppleganger reading the texts of Abadar. She also sees the illusion's exposed scales around the neck. "I need to get better at makeup."

Looked at the disappointed Oread, she smiles. "Not everyone follows The Invisible Hand of Wealth with the fervor you do. Did you notice how many people at the party did succumb to wealth? At first they use the money, but now the money uses them."

She makes a short prayer as they enter and her eyes seem to focus onto every fine detail in the room.

Casting Heightened Awareness on myself. It will last for 20 minutes.

"The future is very hazy...that's not good at all."

Reaver's Roar

There are three rooms branching off of this hallway.

First, there is what appears to be a classroom (B3). This well-lit room holds many chairs aligned towards two giant chalkboards that hang on the north wall. Along the opposite wall, several shelves hold books on sundry topics. Simple but colorful tapestries hang along the north wall, giving the room a bright appearance despite the lack of sunlight and the dour portrait of Grand Prince Stavian III affixed to the south wall. A brass plaque on the frame of the portrait reads, “To serve Taldor, I must first learn the history of Taldor.” There is also what appears to be an hourglass on top of the desk.

Second, there is a recital hall (B4). This room’s well-worn wooden floor sets it apart from the others. The west wall is lined with shelves that support books, a variety of instruments, and dozens of rectangular baskets that contain loose sheaves of paper. Several chairs are pushed against the wall, and a portrait of the Grand Prince hangs to east, surveying everything in the room with magisterial authority. The brass plaque on the frame of the portrait reads, “Persevere, persevere, persevere!” In addition to the other skills stated above, you can use any perform skill in this room.

And finally, the main library chamber (B5). Thousands of books line the dozens of shelves in this high ceilinged library. Several tables and chairs near the center of the room provide a place to read quietly, and five rows of pewlike benches nearby face an immense
lion’s head carved from the eastern wall. Due to the wide range of books kept in this room, you may use any knowledge check in this room.

Feel free to split up and search the rooms as the party deems fit.

Flyn surveys the layout...

"Since the main chamber (B5) is so large, we should probably check it all together as a group...however, since we're pressed for time, perhaps we can split up to check the classroom (B3) and recital hall (B4)..."

By searching rooms, you either discover texts that you are after or clues, which can be cashed in for bonuses elsewhere in the library. These take the form of cards handed out to players then playing in person. I'm just going to type out the relevant clues as people discover them.

Syl'las begins singing, dancing, reciting soliloquys, and otherwise putting on a good show as she paces around the room, searching for books of interest. She thoroughly scours the rooms and while she doesn't find any books containing you are seeking, she does make a few discoveries that may make searching the rest of the library easier.

GM:

Clue1: 1d14 ⇒ 5
Clue2: 1d13 ⇒ 8

You discover the following clues:
Hidden Gem: Right next to one great discovery, you make another incredible find!
Clue: Use this clue whenyou or another PC discoversa clue or text to find one additional clue or text, if any remain in the room. (If
attempting to use this in a room that doesn’t have anymore clues, it doesn’t count; this clue can be used again.)

Magical Assistance:Some of the bookshelves bear a minor enchantment that aids researchers, such as briefly granting the benefits of read languages or creating an unseen servant to aid in collecting documents.
Clue: After the PCs roll skill checks to find documents, any of them may reroll the check before learning the result.
