[PFS Quest] gfvelastegui's "Phantom Phenomena" (Inactive)

Game Master gfvelastegui

Bizarre phenomena have tormented the people of southeastern Ustalav for decades, and these events become stronger and more dangerous every year. Hoping to uncover the origins of these flashes of red lightning and spectral hauntings, Dr. Quolorum from the Sincomakti School of Sciences has set out with a team of able-bodied assistants. Can the PCs help the professor unlock the secret that dwells above Lantern Lake?

Phantom Phenomena includes six adventures that take the PCs to a superstitious village, a lightning-scarred woodland, an ancient Kellid monolith, a haunted manor, an occult university, and finally into the storm-choked mountains.

We are going to play the six adventures in order, just for flavour.

Maps and stuff .

Second Round

Initiative:

Adowyn 21 Entangled
Rivani 19 Entangled
Lerin 14
Mavaro 14
Amiri 12 Entangled
Erasmus 8
Kyra 3

Amiri's reflex is one higher than what you used previously (due to the +dex harrow card) ... didn't help her here, just something to remember... also affects her initiative modifier

- PREGEN -

Mavaro continues his advance, but stops short of the crater. He holds his sword up warily.

moving only 15' with 30' of movement, readied action to attack something hostile that comes adjacent

You are right Amiri. I took the info from the PDF I did´t change the stats. Your save is 7, unfortunatelly you are still entangled.

Things have change a little bit, sorry again. I will give you the following information:

As soon as Amiri come close to the crater:

Red, slimy, shifting ectoplasm bubbles and churns inside this five-
foot crater. Surrounding the ectoplasm, a mass of twisted hands and angry faces are formed in the dirt. Unlike those in the previous crater, these shapes convulse and wail with hateful life. The ectoplasm splits into three blobs.

This takes part in the first round, the second round is going to start as soon everyone let me know its actions.

GM:

Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15

Wait Mavaro, you took your turn, wait until everyone takes its turn.

Amiri curses colourfully as the nearby foliage starts to entangle and grab at her legs, halting her forward movement.

She starts to call back questions to the others, when she notices the churning ectoplasm forming in front of her.

"Beware, the spirits here are taking on form!"

Unable to move, she instead merely stands ready for when they approach.

Again, readying an attack... just not moving this time =)

Melee attack, engangled: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 2 = 16, for 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17 damage.

Yes, Kyra, Mavaro and Amiri let me know what they will do. I am waiting for Adowyn, Erasmus and Rivani.

I posted because you listed the initiative count again so I thought it was a new round

can't you still move at half speed while entangled? so, quarter speed in difficult terrain?

In this case, you can't move entangled, you need to get free, because the bonds are anchored to the ground.

Concentration: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 She concentrates and casts it normaly.

The first blob turns into a humanoid shape creature, each one sports a horned brow, clawed hands, and goatish legs with cloven hooves. It comes close to Amiri, but she was ready to attack it. The attack was so powerful that destroyed the creature in just one hit.

Rivani gets free from entangle and moves forward.

The second blob turns into a human shape creature, floating it moves forward and attacks to Amiri. Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Amiri will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 The hit was powerful too, Amiri staggers, but keeps stand.

Amiri:

Amiri sees a collage of confusing images that include a windswept mountain pass, a cave filled with an eerie green glow, and a pulsing fungal creature brooding in the dark.

Lerin keeps in guard.

Mavaro tries to cast a spell Lead blades, but he can't concentrate. The spell is lost. Then he moves. Concentration: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Amiri continues to swing her massive blade, this time aiming for the last remaining ectoplasmic creature. The hit is good, so good and strong. Amiri destroys the creature.

Combat is over.

Suddenly a known voice comes from behind. "Is it safe now? Can I come to the crater now?"

Amiri's anger slowly subsides, as she stands breathing heavily from exertion.

fatigued for 4 rounds

"I think there's something to this iron thing." She says with a faint smile.

"What were those things?" She adds, examining the extent of her wounds. "They hit pretty hard."

- PREGEN -

"It might be safe now."

A gnome happily runs forward and examines the fresh lightning strike. After many inquisitive exclamations, he harvests two vials of ectoplasm into his newly developed storage containers. Then, looking to Amiri and showing her the containers, "Those creatures were humanoids linked to Leng, you know, the plane of dreams or something like that. They were formed by this ectoplasm. Thanks for your help. Now, I have to study these samples while you complete the remainder of your tasks. Dr. Quolorum smiles to all of you and runs going away from all of you.

MANOR

It's been 2 days since you helped to Dr. Quolorum to catch some ectoplasm. You all feel well, have all your spells and are ready to this new mission.

You received a large package and a brass key along with Dr. Quolorum’s letter. The package contains two boxes made of crystalline panels, each about 1-foot cube. Nobody dares to stop you from approaching the manor, whose front door you can unlock with the key.

Dusty sheets cover the furniture of the front hall—all save a large portrait flanked by unlit candelabras above the fireplace directly opposite the front door. The room smells musty and old.

Rivani and Mavaro:

Rivani Knowledge history: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Mavaro Knowledge history: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

10+: Lady Illirigarde commissioned this manor over 40 years ago, and it’s been bad luck ever since. She disappeared one stormy night, and nobody has used the building since.

15+: The last person to enter the manor, 20 years ago, ran out screaming and for several hours afterward he acted oddly.

Is this the 1st note on the linked page? Seems like it should have happened before the lightning bit, as it describes testing the ectoplasmic containers used there.

Amiri glares around the abandoned manor ready for trouble.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

"So what are we looking for here?" She asks no one in particular.

"And what are those things supposed to do?" She adds, indicating the crystalline cubes. "We expecting more of those ectoplasm things from the forest?"

She draws her sword, clearly thinking it a better way to deal with such things.

I guess these are different containers. Those used in the lighting were ectoplasmic containers bought by Dr. Quolorum, these boxes are created by him. But, I am not sure. There is a new map. I will wait until more of you post your actions.

"'Almost Certain' and 'risk-free'... I'm not sure he truly understands the meanings of these phrases. But let's see what we can recover, eh?" Adowyn stands ready to enter the manor when the others do. She keeps a sharp eye on Leryn, as animals can often sense when things are 'not quite right'.

As Amiri draws her sword, Mavaro shrugs and nonchalantly does the same, though he holds it lazily, without the same preparedness as the barbarian. "I suppose we just explore the place. This portrait seems the obvious starting point for investigation." Mavaro walks up to the portrait to give it a closer look.

Moved Mavaro over to the portrait

Amiri shrugs slightly, as she absently lifts the corners of the sheets with her sword to see what, if anything, is beneath them (beside the obvious furnishings).

She slowly makes her way towards the doorway to one of the adjoining rooms.

Um... not sure if there are any adjoining doorways? Hard to tell on the map. But will work my way to the right I suppose.

Mavaro discovered that someone tore at the portrait, leaving it slashed and Lady Illirigarde’s face unrecognizable. Despite the damage, the subject’s strong widow’s peak is still visible. The plaque below the painting reads “Lady Rena Illirigarde,” but something tried ineffectively to scratch that out and instead carved “Hate” in many places on the wooden frame.

As all of you inspect the room and painting, the unlit candles ignite one by one, illuminating the defaced portrait.

A moment later, Rivani listens that there is a scratching sound to the east through the door.

Adowynn and Amiri think they are the only who have walked in here in decades, so the story of Rivani must be true.

I am changing a little bit the map. So, there aren't stairs. There are doors only to the east. Double doors.

Kyra doesn't find magic other than those magic objects brought by her companions.
