It's a move action to retrieve items from your backpack.
However, if your BAB is at least 1 you can draw a weapon as a part of a move action when you move. So if you attach splash weapons to your belt, you can draw them while moving.
I thought it was a standard action to take out a stored item, but I'll let you rule it and instead of taking a single move, I'll do a double, placing myself across from Boderus.

StephNyan |

@S'arkee: Xien already linked something in the discussion thread, but I'll link you to this table. It shows exactly which kind of action takes how long.
Silas'ra his flask misses the red swarm, but inflicts a bit of splash damage. (2 damage with Janira's Inspire Courage, plus 50%.)
Xien waits for Theadric to also move out of the blue swarm, ready to throw some acid on the swarm.
Damage, Silas'ra: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Fort DC11 vs. poison: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Fort DC11 vs. distraction: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The red swarm meanwhile moves onto Silas'ra, leaving the samurai nauseated and more hurt.
Theadric then double moves out of the blue swarm, and Xien throws his flask of acid. Most of the spiders in the blue swarm die.
Acid: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15 Acid damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Janira takes out a flask of acid while holding up Inspire Courgae, and throws it at the blue swarm. The flask misses, but the splash damage still kills the last of the spiders from that swarm.
Turn progression - round 2:
Janira
Silas'ra: 5/13HP & Nauseated for 1 round
Hskori: 5/9HP; -1STR; Poisoned
Boderus: 13/19HP; -1STR; Poisoned; Nauseated for 1 round
Xien
S'arkee
Spider Swarm (Red) -3HP
Theadric: 7/13HP
Those in bold are up. Inspire Courage is still in effect.
@Theadric: I decided to push this part a bit forward, because you were only going to double move away from the swarm. Don't forget to double move yourself on the map, in case the remaining swarm miraculously holds out till your turn.

![]() |

Xien retrieves another flask of acid, and this time he tries throwing it at the red swarm once Silas moves away. "Caution! Acid goes!"
Acid flask, touch throw/splash: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12 Uf, hope that's enough against touch AC
Acid (x1.5 damage): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 (x1.5 agains swarms= 6 acid damage)
He then moves getting as far of the swarm as he can.

![]() |

Boderus nods at S'arkee as thanks. He then moves forward and throws his flask of alchemist fire at the swarm.
Atk roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Dmg roll: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Splash damage is 1, if it hits then the swarm takes another 1d6 on the next round

![]() |

Do not forget the +1 inspire courage to hit and damage! And splash weapons deal 1.5 damage to swarms, so that is 7 fire damage if it hits! :D

StephNyan |

Fort DC11 vs. poison, Boderus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Fort DC11 vs. poison, Hskori: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Str damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
At the start of their turns, both Boderus and Hskori feel the poison's not yet out of their system. Boderus does, however, feel the poison's no longer affecting him.
Hskori feels herself weaken some more, but then also notices the poison stops affecting her.
------
S'arkee heals the nauseated Boderus back to full health, while Silas'ra retreats to a safer spot and Hskori delays.
Meanwhile Xien throws a flask, but misses the swarm. He still inflicts some splash damage though, and the damage is boosted by Janira's bardic performance.
Boderus is unable to attack due to being nauseated. His attempt to attack anyway only results in the contents of his stomach being spilled.
Fort DC11 vs. poison: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Strength damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Fort DC11 vs. distraction: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
The spider swarm moves onto the recently healed Boderus, and both hurts and poisons him again. Boderus' strength fades even more, but he resists becoming nauseated again.
Turn progression - round 2:
Janira
Silas'ra: 5/13HP
Hskori: 5/9HP; -2STR
Boderus: 15/19HP; -3STR
Xien
S'arkee
Spider Swarm (Red) -6HP
Theadric: 7/13HP
Theadric's up again. Inspire Courage is still in effect.

Hood, thus far asleep in the saddle, suddenly wakes up. Though he was covered in dozens of bites, his pony had navigated away from the spiders.
Rousing from his slumber, the halfling suddenly says "What?! Ho! An enemy! Wooo!!! Finally some excitement here!!! What a boring trip so far, but this looks fun! Let's do this thing! Yeah!!!"
Trying to gauge the best way to attack the spiders, he looks prepared to charge them, but they swarm like a writhing carpet, with Boderus in the middle.
"Wow, tiefling! You are making that look really cool! I like how they are crawling all over you like you're a beekeeper! Nicely played! "
He moves forward on his pony while drawing a flask of acid, then prepares to throw it once Boderus is clear.
"You may not want to be close when this crashes down! Or maybe you do, just to be extra amazing!" he yells.
"FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!"

dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5

StephNyan |

I assume Boderus will move away from the spiders on his turn. So I'll speed this part up a bit:
Theadric prepares to throw an acid flask on the swarm, but waits for Boderus to move back first. Once Boderus does this the swarm takes the full hit from Theadric's acid, and the swarm's no more.
(5 damage +1 from inspire courage) +50% = 9 damage
Combat's over!
Janira claps her hands. "Well done everyone! Wow, those swarms were nasty! Let me take a look at your wounds."
After the encounter, Janira is quick to provide any healing you may need.
The scenario states any healing. So consider yourselves fully healed!
When your wounds are treated, Janira encourages you to pack up and move on in order to reach the caves by dusk. She strongly believes that if you don’t reach the caves tonight, any gillmen who are present may leave before you arrive.
Roll Survival! :)

![]() |

"Haha! Yeah!!!" Hood yells as his acid strikes true. "A giant fiery explosion would have been much better, but melting them was pretty fun, too!"
After the battle, He accepts some healing from Janira reluctantly...he doesn't really feel he needed it. Even so, he seems much more excited than he has been during the trip now that there has been some combat.
His pony, Zyzzyx, proves to be much like Hood. It bounds around the group tirelessly, except at night, when it sleeps early and long. But now, Hood and the pony gallop around the group excitedly.

"Hey, guy with the really cool armor and sword! Follow me! I know the way!!!" he says as he begins to gallop in a different direction.

Xien looks at the acidified spider remains with satisfaction then follows Thaedric and Janira who seem to know where to go.

![]() |

Is the strength debuff also healed? Or only health?
"Thank you Hood. Bloody spiders really liked me for some reason."
He says as he swats a remaining spider from his leg.
He follows Hood in the general direction of the cave, not trusting his own instincts to guide him to their destination.

StephNyan |

@Boderus: She provides any healing you may need. So that includes healing your Strength damage :)
With Theadric's expert survival skills you make it to your destination in no time. The dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead. "Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines," Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face. She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface. "This is where I saw the gillmen enter."
As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth. The halfling worriedly remarks, "Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us!" As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group.
Wisely assessing that a minotaur is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams, "A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag," she continues, pulling off her backpack, "and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO!" She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.

![]() |

Xien obeys his superior Janira without hesitation. The nagaji jumps into the narrow tunnel pushing the halfling's bag with him. "As you command Janira. We will find those gillmen."

![]() |

"Noooo!!! Wait!!! I'M the one who should be leading it off into the woods on a death-defying chase! Awwww, COME ON!!! That's totally not fair!" Hood yells at the top of his lungs.
However, seeing Janira already taking off into the woods, and also that there is unfortunately room for only one leader, he watches her jealously for a few moments before turning around with the group.
"Well played, Janira...well played! When I'm a venture captain, I'm TOTALLY going to lead a monster away to save the party!"

![]() |

S'arkee, surprised by the creature but hearing the words of his fellow pathfinder nods.
"We will find out what is going on. Be safe!" he calls out before following Xien into the narrow tunnel.

![]() |

Once on a save spot in the tunnel Xien opens Janira's bag and checks the contents.

![]() |

Boderus follows the others inside. He looks back once more to confirm she isn't immediately killed. When he is in the cave he asks.
"What's in the pack?"

StephNyan |

You see the minotaur chasing after Janira through the trees, fighting its way through the dense undergrowth. Soon the cacophony of the chase fades and the sounds of the forest slowly return to normal.
The narrow tunnel twists and turns for several hundred feet before slowly opening to a wider passage. A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down the path. At the bottom of the pit lies a small bundle of cloth.
The tunnel here is 10 feet wide and 10 feet tall with a ceiling mostly devoid of stalactites. The pit is 10 by 10 feet, and 20 feet deep.

S'arkee appears to be on a roll with his knowledge.
"I believe a Gillman has come in here from these tracks. If we're to believe they have webbed feet since they live in water, as we were breifed." he states as they move deeper into the tunnel to find a large pit. He takes a close look and turns back to the group. "This pit is a year old and artificial. It seems they've been coming here for over a year."
Looking at the situation around him he thinks for a moment.
"I have rope if anyone has a hook so we can climb down then up or across.
sorry, wrote up the dice in the wrong order. lol.

![]() |

Xien picks the potion of barkskin and one alchemist fire. "Take whatever you can use meaningfully." He offers the bag to the rest of the party.
The nagaji looks at the robe on the pit's surface. "Anyone can pick it up? Maybe some of our magic users?"
The resolute reptilian-man takes some meters to run then he makes a long big jump to reach the other side of the pit.

@Boderus: The tunnel is 10 wide, as is the pit. There's no way around the pit.
Boderus thinks the bundle of cloth looks much like a cloak. Silas'ra and S'arkee climb down, and confirm it's indeed a cloak.

![]() |

Silas'ra will wait for the rest of the party to climb down or jump across. He picks up the cloak and hands it to S'arkee hoping he'll be able to determine if it's is anything special.
While S'arkee examines the cloak, Silas'ra takes a closer look in the pit. Anything else here?
Once the rest of the party is down the rope or on the other side, he'll detach the grappling hook, throw it up to the other side and climb back up.
Take 10 on climb for 11.

"Nice job jumping across, scaly guy with the sword! Wooo! That's the spirit!" Hood yells.
Riding around on his pony, he looks at the pit. "Now, if the pit were a little bit wider, with perhaps flame or lava lapping up, this would look a lot better than it's about to look. But just pretend there's a big explosion behind me when I do this, okay?! Here goes nothing!" he yells, spurring his pony to a running start and a magnificent leap over the pit.

"Come ON! Scaly guy jumped okay! But ropes?! I guess that could be kind of cool if we swing across the pit, maybe with crocodiles trying to eat us...but lowering them down and climbing back up again? BORING!!!"
The halfling starts whistling a tune while he waits for everyone else to come.

Zyzzyx, the pony, nearly bounces up and down as Hood speaks.
As he waits for the others to catch up, he begins singing a toon.
"Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, But I've been seen with Shelyn. I've never been with anything less than a nine, so fine..."

StephNyan |

Those who climb down discover the bottom of the pit's filled with water, something they overlooked when glancing down earlier. While Theadric makes an epic jumps with his pony, those in the pit enjoy a short swim while the rope's being thrown up again. Eventually everyone safely passes the pit.
Approximately 30 feet beyond the pit and out of sight around a corner is a long, 3-foot-wide wooden plank that rests against the cave’s wall. The
gillman pilgrim in the cave placed it here after using it to cross the pit. Boderus strays a bit a bit and notices the plank around the corner.
The History of Humanity
The tunnels continue on, leading deeper beneath the Kortos Mounts until they eventually open into a large cavern. What must have once been beautifully carved reliefs and inscriptions have since weathered heavily, their features dulled and softened to the point that it is hard to distinguish what each once depicted. A wide tunnel exits the cavern on its far side, and blue-burning torches line the passageway’s walls.

The carvings focus on parables that feature Aroden’s twelve guises, meant to illustrate his hopes for humanity. Only four of these parables are still decipherable by S'arkee and Hskori.
The Hunter is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain.
The Scholar is depicted writing on a piece of parchment and then reading from it to passersby, just as Aroden was said to smile on those who recorded history and other knowledge to share it with others.
The Shepherd is depicted herding animals out of a crowded city to the pastures beyond, just as Aroden blessed leaders with the foresight to direct people to the tasks and places that best suit them.
The Soldier is depicted bearing a lantern through the streets of a city, following the dead god’s prophecy that the vigilant shall carry light to the darkest corners of the world to banish the shadows.
S'arkee and Hskori also identify that the sections of the holy text depicted are slightly different than those that appear in the known
version of the History and Future of Humanity, the principle holy text of Aroden, suggesting that the carvings might represent an earlier version of the work.
Boderus notices each of the torches on the walls is an everburning torch.
Meanwhile Xien decides to check out what's beyond the carvings.
Aroden’s Vision
The soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west.
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
Kneeling in the water is a lone gillman, with his back toward you.
There's a new map for you to view! :)

I've died for a living on the stage and in the plays.
But the hardest thing I'll ever do is watch my leading ladies,
Kiss some other guy while I'm bandaging my knee."
Seeing someone moving, he absent-mindedly follows Xien into the next room.
