N'Neka follows, and checks again with her Spirit Sense. "If there are actual demons here, I can sense them," she murmurs.
Does anyone have UMD? Lack of arcanist...:D
I believe your ability is spell-like so you'll need to say when you cast it.
DM Aron Marczylo
Sorry, my post got eaten. Yes, N'Neka will cast it when she enters the building. It's like Detect Undead in that one keeps it going to increase the sensitivity with each round.
What's the distance? Just so I keep it in mind.
DM Aron Marczylo
There has been no response so I think I'll bring in a little companion for you all.
Eleanor Evelyn
|
As you get ready to make your way down you hear the steps of someone in heavy armour and before you can respond, you see a young woman with golden hair, dressed in heavy armour and a heavy shield running in and stopping for a moment.
"Sorry I didn't catch up sooner. I was invited by Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch, but my trip was delayed by a group of troublesome bandits." she apologises and puts away her longsword. "My name is Eleanor Evelyn. It is a honour to meet you, my fellow pathfinders."
Her profile needs to be updated. She's actually 2nd.
Eleanor Evelyn
|
One of the major problems here is, of course, that you have a switch outside of the cage and it can only hold 4 medium creatures. Including Kalkamedes. You'll need a plan for you all to get down.
Eleanor nods.
"Stygian dephs? My blade will make short work of any monster we face." she smiles confidently and marches forward, but stops looking over the control panel.
She'll be quite hefty anyway as she is wearing half-plate. Not got enough gold for Full-Plate yet.
DM Aron Marczylo
The main issue is the console with the lever for the elevator is outside the cage so you'll need to find someway to activate it whilst in the cage.
DM Aron Marczylo
I'll assume you make your way down through somesort of way to activate the lever remotely. I certainly wouldn't want you climbing the wall down...
As you get to the bottom there is a unnatural dark-green glow as you advance deeper into this cave and find a large cavern with this same light covering the walls. A set of natural rock columns support the chamber's ceiling, which rises to a height of twenty feet.
Kalkamedes leads on, but as you pass an Alcove you see a Gnome with fuchsia hair and a set of threadbare cloths sat in a strange arcane circle.
When he sees you he starts calling for help and claiming to be a Gnome, trapped here by the Thrallkeepers to torment and torture and that Kalkamedes is a ancestor of a dear friend of his, but not only is Kalkamedes drawn to another part of the cave but N'Neka can sense he is lying as he reads under her sight as an outsider and Eleanor reads him as Evil.
He's currently in a circle. Do you want to ignore him and continue where Kalkamedes is going?
Where Kalkamedes is heading there appears to be another outsider and to the direct west where a pool is you can see another three auras, but of undead creatures.
DM Aron Marczylo
What brings you here little gnome dressed so poorly the mesmerist asks?
For Claritie's sake, as covered in Discussion, I'll let him weave you a tale.
"My name is Koth'Vaul, dear beautiful lady. I was imprisoned here centuries ago by the Thrallkeepers, binding me here to use my fey essence to power their diabolic magic." he states as he stands up and demonstraits by pressing his hand against an invisible barrier. You can see the palm of his hand flatten against something solid, even though you see nothing there. "Your friend there is cursed. He looks a lot like my old friend, Johanis, who traveled here with me and my sister. The two were in love and it must be that love that bond and his promise, ten generations ago that has brought him here. Please, release me and I shall cure him of his affliction and I can taste the fresh air once again."

Kn Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Kn Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
N'Neka draws the party close when out of earshot of the gnome. She whispers to the others.
"There are odd things here," says N'Neka. "Something from another plane...and three undead creatures in a pool to the west." She realizes the something is the gnome and makes her voice quieter.
"...Koth-Vaul. That is not a gnome's name. That sounds like something from the Abyss. And he is imprisoned by wards keeping something from another plane from escaping. ...."
She pauses.
"The wards holding him are breaking down."
DM Aron Marczylo
I should've realised to have done this earlier, but oh well.
As you all decide to leave the Gnome alone and follow Kalkamedes he begins to yell and curse at you.
"Fools! You dare walk away from Koth'Vaul, the Lying Horns?!" he screams as he transforms before your eyes into a massive horned, hidious beast with two massive claws and two slender humanoid arms coming out of his chest. "Rise, Illvaster! Attack them!"
As this is stated, a large claw bursts from the water, followed by a black dragon who roars and leers at your direction. Following him are two otherworldly appendages of something else moving on their own without a body.
The dragon appears to be wearing a Mithral band on it's horn, but nothing else decorative.
Put up pictures AND larger ones for clarity of what it is.

Kalkamedes advances towards the other end of the cave, away from the dragon, but also away from the demon to another part of the cave you have not yet arrived at. Koth'Vaul screams out in protest.
"Don't let them reach her!" he commands the dragon who only just finished getting out of the pool.

N'Neka pulls out her scroll of Longstrider and casts it on Amahl.
"Run, and pull Kalkamedes with you! The demon doesn't want him to reach 'her', whoever she is!"
There's some sorcery, now how about some swords? :D
DM Aron Marczylo
Does the sword tell us anything about these creatures? Like if they are real or not?
The sword knows nothing about this place. It has never been here, it never knew of this place where Kalkamedes must've come close enough to be affect by whatever if getting at him and it knows nothing of the creatures.
DM Aron Marczylo
Amahl's attack misses the mighty dragon who sets it's eyes on Amahl who is now blocking his path.
Amahl can see to the south in a circle similar to the one the demon is in a young elven woman, laying down unconcious and mortally wounded.
DM Aron Marczylo
was waiting on M, but nevermind.
Illvaster attacks the only opponent within it's reach, however it misses attempting to Bite the big man.

Eleanor, not being as light-weighted as Amahl she calls down a smite judgement on the Dragon.
"You shall be judged by the mighty Iomedae, you fiend! You will taste my steel!" she then makes her way towards the creature as fast as she can and manages to just reach the dragon, but do nothing else.

The mesmerist will trigger Painful stare:
When an attack that deals damage hits the target of a mesmerist's hypnotic stare, the mesmerist can cause the target to take an amount of additional damage equal to 1/2 the mesmerist's class level (minimum 1).
The mesmerist can use this ability as a free action, and can use it even if it isn't his turn. If the mesmerist uses this ability to increase his own damage, the additional damage increases by 1d6 points for every 3 class levels the mesmerist possesses. This damage is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit. A mesmerist can trigger this ability only once per round, but a single creature can take damage from multiple mesmerists' painful stares in a round.

It's not a mind-affecting ability, is it?
I copied and pasted the description from the PRD. It does not appear to be so.
DM Aron Marczylo
Yeah, sorry been really distracted as of late. Also I'm not sure I understand M's ability...it says +1 damage for attacks that round so does it work like Inspire courage or is it just extra damage for you?
