Renedar the Young
|
Renedar steps up to the red-eyed creature and tries to hit it with his fist.
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue

Doodle doesn't have a weapon to try for an AOO. She takes a step back and fires her wand at the one who fell on her.
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Taerel Morgenfrei
|
Taerel actually has to hold his sword for casting (bonded object), so he is happy to take the opportunity.
AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
| GM Crucible |
Taerel applies his blade, a task much easier with the tripurasuras not attempting to evade. His blade cuts the creature, but despite it's altered state, the wound is still not as serious as you think it ought to be.
That was the AoO, you still get a regular attack.
I have a wizard with a bonded blade, and I've always just assumed she holds the hilt with it sheathed unless I specify otherwise, so just checking!
Renedar nearly stumbles on his way up the symbolic "mountain". He recovers—although not as gracefully as he perhaps might have liked—and redeems himself with a solid strike at the fallen creature. Its magical and evil nature somehow weakens the force of his blow. It's definitely unconscious, but after seeing it heal itself, you're not convinced it will stay that way.
Doodle steps back and fires her wand at the asura with the big red eyes. It appears unconscious, but one never can tell with extra-planar creatures.
I picked a square for you. If you don't like it, let me know. As these are Tiny, they can occupy the same square as you (and must do so to attack with melee).

Taerel continues his assault with his blade, hoping to manage to do some damage.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Mercutio il Fata
|
Mercutio runs up the mountain to meet the tiny daemons.
Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
He lays waste to the yellow spawn with his rapier.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

"Why won't you die?!"

red (-22)/2
yellow(-14)/2
Varian moves forward to join combat. Taerel skewers an asura with his blade, opening its side, a little (I picked yellow, as it's not unconscious).
Mercutio climbs forwards and stumbles. His movement is stopped, but he's close enough to attack. Mercutio thrusts with his blade, but misses in his haste. Given previous experience, he's not sure the attack would have done much damage anyway.

The one with the golden tinge to its horned crown cries out in pain as Tomren's magic missile connects.
As you watch, the wounds of the tripurasuras knit together. They're constantly healing, and it means trouble.
The tripurasura with the deep red eyes appears to be regaining consciousness.
(Both are still stunned, but neither is unconscious.)

Using one of the tiny bows, Varian waits for one of the tripurasuras to fall unconscious again, and then coup-de-graces it.
damage: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) = 10, Fort save DC (10+damage dealt), or die.
| GM Crucible |
CDG is a full-round action. It will be a move to pick up a dropped bow, and a move to pull an arrow from their quiver. So if Varian wishes to CDG that way, it will need to be next round.
| GM Crucible |
Could have, but didn't. Also, there are two things to pick up (bow and arrow), each requiring a move action, so even if he did, it wouldn't matter. (Drawing your own ammunition is a free action, but picking up someone else's should cost an action.)
| GM Crucible |
The edit was nice. Although the grumpy face and the comment about doing a comedic dance was funny too.
Taerel Morgenfrei
|
"Tiny creatures, do you submit? The choice is that, or to die."
With that, Taerel puts his sword at the yellow one's neck, and readies and action to cut him should he do anything other than surrender.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Plus anything for his being prone and stunned?
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Renedar the Young
|
Renedar grabs the throat of the other one and waits for a decision. He prepares to squeeze the throat as soon as the creature attacks again.
CDG Damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 6) + 8 = 17
Varian Jeggare
|
Just so people are aware: You can only coup-de-grace helpless creatures; once they regain consciousness, they will no longer be helpless. Also, Coup-de-grace is a full round action, and cannot be done as a readied action. Just hit them now!
We identified these things as evil outsiders, so I don't think surrender should be an option, in any case ;-)
| GM Crucible |
Being evil, and being outsiders, surrender is not on their list of things to do today.
Taerel does damage, but not as much as he'd expect. The yellow-tinged creature is still conscious, but barely.
Doodlevain "Doodle" Montafescue
|
Doodle fires her wand at the yellow creature yet again. "Stop hugging them and hit them for goodness sakes!"
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
| GM Crucible |
Doodle does enough damage to knock the yellow one unconscious.
Tomren Tellius
|
"Take that, you red-eyed fiend!" shouts Tomren as he sends another magic missile against the red one.
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
| GM Crucible |
Varian picks up the tiny bow and arrows.
Renedar delays slightly to see if red is knocked unconscious again. His patience is rewarded when Tomren fires a magic missile at it, and the beast again falls unconscious. Renedar immediately steps in for the killing blow, ripping the creature's head from its body. *That* wound won't heal anytime soon.
Renedar, I'm going to go with your first action, b/c it's better. It just had to wait a bit for your party.
Taerel runs the remaining beast through when it refuses to surrender, but it only does a wee bit of damage. Doodle focuses her magic on the remaining one, knocking it unconscious.
At this point, I'm going to bot Mercutio, because I can.
Mercutio steps in with a coup de grace of his own, piercing it soundly through its center of mass. It wriggles on his blade, but does not die.
dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 = 13
Fort cs DC 18: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
yellow(-33)/6
The party has done 33 hp damage (after DR 5) to the creature, but it's now healed 6 of that for a net of 27 damage. With 19 hp, it's at -8, but still fast healing 2 until it hits -Con (-12). Varian's CDG hits it for 5 (after DR 5), which is enough to kill it.
Varian uses the Tiny bow and arrow he acquired, and fires directly into the creature's brain. It shudders one last time, and is dead, its healing stopped.
Out of combat! That would have been much tougher without color spray.

Map fully revealed.
Searching the bodies reveals no treasure other than their weapons (the bows they dropped). Tripurasura exist to defile, and these ones didn't seem to keep anything of value.
As you peek around the wall, you see a large statue of a monkey-faced man sits on a pedestal at the north end of this small shrine. The statue’s arms and legs are missing, and deep scratches have been gouged into its face. Pieces of broken stone, rotting plant matter, and other assorted rubbish lie in heaps on the floor of this room. The smell of rot is particularly strong here.
Assuming someone is able to roll 15 on a Perception check...
You've had enough hints by this time to know the statue represents the god Ragdya. The statue is wearing a monkey belt.
Additionally, you find a small cabinet in the pedestal below the statue, which holds a richly illuminated copy of the Vigrahin Patitraka (a Vudran holy text) worth 50 gp and a handwritten journal belonging to a priest who accompanied Khiben-Sald on his travels around the Inner Sea. In Subtier 4–5, the cabinet also holds copies of the Azvadeva Pujila and Mizravrtta Brahmodya worth 50 gp each, which may be of interest to a scholar.

When you are done searching and cataloging the temple, you manage to find your way back to the base camp (again, I'm assuming you can work together to make Survival rolls), where you are greeted warmly by Count Matsanda and Baron Rudyahm.
The baron, satisfied by his vengeance and his long life of miltary service, retires to write his memoirs.
The Count is grateful for your help in the hunt, and more importantly in helping him bond with his father-in-law. As a show of gratitude, he offers to have any of your trophies stuffed and mounted, and delivered to your home as his gift.
The trip back to Absalom is thankfully uneventful. Ambrus Valsin is excited by the lost texts, especially the journal. He immediately sends for Society historians, and they spend months analyzing it in excruciating detail. (Thankfully your characters don't have to participate in that part, and we don't have to role play it.)
—— END ——
Your peaceful encounter with the monkeys (and defeating the Asura in the temple) earns you a boon on your chronicle sheets (forthcoming).
The secondary success condition (2nd prestige point) was to achieve enough "prestige" with either the Baron or the Count. You did that through your role-play, Diplomacy checks, and encounters with the "poison" spider and elephant, and by helping the Baron defeat the leucrotta.
Your non-violent encounter with Asvika is one of the reported events, so she may appear in a future scenario if enough tables don't kill her.
Well done! Chronicles will be delivered in the next day or so. I started them this morning, but won't get back home until late tonight, so tomorrow seems more likely.
