Don't mind Cassius; he likes to know exactly what his squad is casting so he can a suitably informed, and/or grumpy, CO. :P

The frown that is very often Cassius's normal expression crosses it once more as he observes the initial spellcasting of his team. Hrmn. Later he will ask questions, for now, they have bigger priorities.

"Kayle, focus on keeping yourself and Bjorn on your feet, and avoid catching the elementals in it! Squad: focus offensive effort on the one Bjorn has already injured!" he shouts, with a nod of approval for Kayle's healing so far. Another nod for Bjorn's powerful attacks.

Staying well back from the front line, Cassius begins the invocation of a summoning spell.

Full-round spell to cast Summon Monster IV; he's calling up a Hound Archon.

Vorgal:
Do you want to stick with that action in light of Cassius having given orders to Ivari to remain at ranged? +4 to his STR won't help him with his bow, since his bow is not adaptive. It's up to you, of course, just curious in case you hadn't seen Cassius's order to Ivari.

Cassius looks up sharply at Bjorn's words, and gazes around for the threat that he sees, that Cassius himself had not.

"Well spotted!" he shouts over the booming storm and sounds of mass, pitched battle.

The spell that he began a handful of seconds ago reaches its completion. A dog-headed creature appears within a stone's throw of Cassius, already gird for battle. Despite its canine appearance, there is something ineffably noble about the creature's appearance, and the sword it grips in both hands seems sharp.

For a half-second, the hound's burning gaze looks to Cassius. Cassius cries out, "The elementals are intruders to this plane, and have attacked in the night, as cowards! Help us defend!"

The outsider nods, and moves to strike, with a flurry of blade and bite.

Slightly complicated combat stuff behind the cut to save space:

Cassius can summon the Hound Archon up to 40 feet away; ideally he'd like to summon it between the two approaching elementals (if you rule he can see them, after Bjorn pointed them out, and if they're close enough. If not, he'll simply place it between our two current foes, but ideally close enough to melee attack one of them.

Either way, wherever it 'goes off', any elementals/other enemies within 20' feet of the archon must make a DC 16 Will save or take a take a –2 penalty on attacks, AC, and saves for 24 hours, or until they successfully hit the hound archon. (Aura of Menace)

The hound will full attack, focusing on either the injured one, or, if it's already down, on the new one. If he downs one foe, he would try and switch to the other.

Greatsword 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Greatsword 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 ...ouch

(Damage) On the slim chance that greatsword hits: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12

The hound archon is immune to electricity, has AC 19, and also has DR/10 unless the attacks are evil.

With his orders given, Cassius looks up at the monstrous lightning elder that is still trying to breach through to this plane... and winning. He has little enough in the way of true damage to unleash against it... his way is one of control, not raw power....

If he can see the second group of incoming elementals:

Cassius points, and gestures, and a second burst of golden light erupts around the sparkling heads of the incoming storm-creatures.

Glitterdust again on the new elementals, Will save DC 17. Ideally he would try and aim the burst to get them both. If Cassius cannot see the new elementals, then he will stick the cloud around the head of Big Daddy Zap himself. Range is 170 feet, so he should be able to hit him.

Then Cassius speaks to his parrot, in Infernal-- the words barely able to be heard even by those standing close, over the roar of battle.

Infernal:
"I have a task for you, Decibel... I want you to fly up and over this battlefield..."

"What?! Have you noticed it's full of crazy lightning monsters?"

"I am aware, thank you. I hope that they will take little notice of you, frankly..."

"Have you also noticed I'm REALLY BRIGHTLY COLORED?"

"Yes. Yes I have. Decibel-- if someone is calling these creatures here, from somewhere nearby, we must know. Fly quietly, avoid engagements, stay well above the fray. Can you do that?"

"I'm gonna die."

"I sincerely hope you do not, but it is probably not much safer for you to stay on my shoulder. Now go!"

With a harsh shriek, the parrot launches itself from Cassius's shoulder and into the air.

For Soldier:
Basically what it says on the tin: Cassius wants Decibel to try and pull aerial recon, and hopefully not die, but I'm aware of the risks of sending a tiny familiar out into space... Decibel will be trying to fly away from the combat, getting a good height above the actual fray, so that he hopefully won't be spotted by elementals with other things to worry about. His stealth is a +14, and his base fly speed is a +40, Perception is +9. So... assuming moving stealthily, and scanning around-- he is looking for casters, basically. Anyone not a Hellknight who might be on a rooftop, or lurking outside the grounds, or seems to be manipulating/controlling/tied to the big dimensional breach. I'll do a starter set of rolls and you can let me know if I need to do more.

(The hound archon has DR 10/evil, and I'm assuming the elementals' attacks are only neutral unless you tell me otherwise. The hound archon is also immune to electricity, so I think all that damage actually boils down to just 5 points of damage taken for the archon. Correct me if I am wrong about anything!)

Cassius nods grimly to himself as he notices the archon taking some blows... but he called this creature, out of everything he could have chosen, for its specific hardiness against these foes.

We must lend aid to driving that thing back-- these lesser ones only delay us, and you are one of the few of us with range to strike at the greatest threat!"

It's a calculated risk, ordering the man who may be the best among them at simply dealing raw, straight damage to focus on the foe that is not personally threatening them. Cassius knows it to be a risk, and prays that the lives of his team do not pay the price for his order... but if that lord-among-elementals breaches the planar barrier fully, Cassius thinks that none of them might survive.

Unable to make any headway in the chaos of the battle, Decibel shrieks, the noise quite lost to the storm, and starts winging his way back to his master.

Kayle, Bjorn, Cassius/Decibel:
You see a brief blinding glow as Saren, flying above and wreathed in flames, finally cuts down the trio of elementals that he had been combating with and charges the behemoth elemental working its way through the portal. A blinding rocket of seemingly pure flame, he actually burns straight through several smaller elementals in his charge, vaporizing them before slamming straight into the elemental's face. You understand a little now the power true Hellknights can wield, and both covet and fear it.

An intense explosion turns the night into a hellish day, the world going blindingly bright for just a moment before returning to its normal darkness, leaving you, and everyone else it seems, temporarily blinded. The following shockwave ensures that even if any hadn't been blinded, all are too stunned to resume combat for a moment. When you finally blink the last of the stars from your eyes you see that the elemental has been pushed back... slightly. There seems to be no sign of Saren.

Greatsword: 1d20 + 14 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 14 - 2 + 1 = 242d6 + 11 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 11 + 6 + 1 = 25
Greatsword: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 172d6 + 11 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 11 + 6 + 1 = 24

Wraaaargh!! The heavens are falling upon us!!

Sorry just a quick check in to see if Bjorn brings his elemental down...

Cassius gapes as he sees Saren's blinding charge.... and when the shockwave clears, he stands for a moment, frozen.

If a Maralictor of the Order could do so little against such a threat, even sacrificing himself... what hope have they?

But duty-- and self-survival-- demands that they try. Teeth gritted, Cassius sends another blast of magical energy across the battlefield.

Casting (toppling) magic missile. Like Ivari, target is dependent on whether Bjorn's elemental is still standing. If Bjorn's elemental is standing, he will send one magic missile into Bjorn's, and the rest into Big Daddy. If Bjorn's elemental is down, all bolts into Big Daddy.

(Force damage, bypasses DR) Bolt 1/4: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
(Force damage, bypasses DR) Remaining bolts, 2-4: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 3 = 10
Trip attempt 1 (needs a natural 20): 1d20 ⇒ 10
Trip attempt 1 (needs a natural 20): 1d20 ⇒ 3
Trip attempt 1 (needs a natural 20): 1d20 ⇒ 19
Trip attempt 1 (needs a natural 20): 1d20 ⇒ 4 (No natural 20s)

For GM, re: trips:
There's some debate about whether a toppling magic missile allows you to get a trip attempt on each magic missile, or only once per casting of the spell. I rolled 4 here in case you're allowing the more generous interpretation; ignore the subsequent attempts if your ruling is that I only get one. Since the lightning elementals' CMD is so high, he needs a nat 20 to succeed, so I haven't bothered including the modifiers to his rolls.

The battered hound archon stoically continues to swing and bite at his foes.

Hound archon, greatsword 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Hound archon, greatsword 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Hit, I believe
Hound archon, bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Greatsword damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5 Does not break DR

Hound Archon, 3/9 rounds, HP 22/39

His orders have been given. Cassius watches the battlefield, but nothing has essentially changed: they must still keep the team alive long to even begin to mount a coherent offense on the true threat.

"Vorgal, have you any spells to harass the master elemental at this distant range?" he shouts.

Elemental #2 is still up Ivari. And Cassius, I've ruled that since you only get one sneak attack, you only get one trip attempt. I like consistency =P

Vorgal winces, miffed. "I'm trying Cassius, the battlefield is too crowded though, so none of my attempts have been effective. I'm trying to hedge his strength."

Ivari continues, focusing on trying to bring Bjorn's foe down...

Attack 1 {Manyshot, Point Blank, Deadly Aim}: 1d20 + 13 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 1 - 3 = 28
Damage?: 2d8 + 18 ⇒ (8, 7) + 18 = 33

Damage?: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

With a last arrow from Ivari the elemental finally fades out to a few sputtering sparks of static.

The elemental pair assaulting the hound archon continue on in their single minded pursuit of destruction.

Elemental #3 Slam 1 attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32
Elemental #3 Slam 1 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (3, 5) + 5 + (8) = 21

Elemental #3 Slam 2 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (3, 6) + 5 + (7) = 21

Elemental #4 Slam 1 attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 27
Elemental #4 Slam 1 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 5 + (8) = 18

Elemental #4 Slam 2 attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Elemental #4 Slam 2 damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 + (7) = 16

Around you you can see other Hellknights finally managing to regroup, following your lead and forming more coherent squads. They are slowly starting to push back against the hoard of smaller elementals, though against the master there seems to be no progress. That is irrelevant to Hellknight discipline however, and they fight regardless.

Apologies for my slowness, folks.

Hound Archon

The archon continues to stand strong in the face of brutal blows that would surely have felled a mere mortal by this point. His celestial body stands as a bulwark against the storm's wrath, but still, he is slowly but surely being whittled down...

Hound archon, greatsword 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Hound archon, greatsword 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Hound archon, bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Greatsword damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 3 = 10 5 after DR
Bite damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 4 after DR

(Archon has now dealt a total of 14 points of damage to his elemental over the combat, I just went through and looked. Barely dented it. ;) )
Hound Archon, 4/9 rounds, HP 15/39

Cassius watches his called creature fight for the space of two seconds before returning his attention to the greater battle at hand. He sees another streak of light blast out to the master elemental, from Vorgal's hand, and smiles tightly.

"That one was well struck!" he calls to the elf. "Continue as you can. Ivari: loose arrows at the master! Kayle: how stand you on healing? Bjorn is still injured, but if you have little left, save it for true emergency and join battle with these two nearest ones as you see fit. Bjorn: drink healing potions if you have any. I have a potion of cure moderate in my pack you may use, and I will staunch what I can with your wand! You may use ranged for as long as my archon holds, but I fear you'll need to battle soon."

Cassius's actions for the round will be to move to Bjorn and use the wand of Infernal Healing on him (I assume Cassius would be carrying it as he and Vorgal are the only arcane casters, but if necessary, he'll just cast his own memorized version of the spell on Bjorn.) That way at least if Bjorn goes down he'll auto-stabilize...

"As soon as I can I will call another outsider to help keep us on our feet!"

Ivari nods and moves closer to the master elemental, drawing clearer shots and focusing on accuracy over power...

Attack 1 - Manyshot, Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 1 = 33
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
Attack 2 - Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Amid the chaos and confusion of battle a single arrow flies, piercing directly into the master elemental's neck. Its head snaps around and it looks intently, staring directly at Ivari before its gaze sweeps around to include the rest of the group. All around the fight pauses as the elemental speaks, its voice harsh and crackling, the high pitched snap of static and the tang of ozone accompanying it.

"Well well well... I'm so glad you decided to show yourself. An excellent shot. Almost the same place as last time, no?" the elemental laughs and even despite the interference you can tell it's Zakat's voice.

"Imazi said I can't really play with you again. But you were very rude last time. After all this is over, we'll go again, yes? But that means you have to survive until then. So here, take this. And remember, I get to kill you, nothing and no one else, agreed?"

With a malicious grin the elemental slams its hand into the ground, and everything turns white.

By the gods, what kind of creature is this Zakat? Not for your warding spells, I'll be dead by now, Cassius.

Says Bjorn, burned and wounded, the big man looks now at the Storm-lord with incredulity.

Did that explosion dissipate him or Zakat still there?

Yeah, I guess I should have stated that >.<

After your vision clears you can blurrily see that Zakat's avatar is retreating, the portal closing up behind it, the fiery traces of warding magic blazing up now that the resistance is gone. With no more elementals coming through the portal, the Hellknights have an easier time and the battle begins to turn as they focus on eliminating the remaining elementals.
