Acrobatics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 to tumble back up the stairs to J1 as a move action - unsure how this works in Starfinder as I don't have my book with me, but hopefully the DC is not too challenging. Then drop my shotgun as a free action and retrieve my frag grenade as a swift action from my cheek-pouch. Then toss the grenade at the intersection of K-L/5-6 1d20 ⇒ 13 to hit AC 5. This should include Merc 2, Merc 3 and Exegara in the blast, 1d6 ⇒ 1 piercing damage.
Magnus bounds back up the stairs, spits out a grenade and tosses it into the fray, but the blast is mostly absorbed by the shrubbery.

| Venture-Captain Arvin |
Works same as Pathfinder as far as I can see..... Move through a threatened area is 15 + 1/2 opponent's CR, so you pass easily.
Magnus' grenade explodes to good effect, causing everyone to duck and pause for a moment mid action.
The mercenary attacking him, follows him up the stairs, "Come here you slippery rat!" and attempts again to flatten him with his hammer.
Attack (B): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Korskal
Tofana
|
I don't think Korskal's turn will affect mine, so I'll just jump in.
Seeing Latheera fade into the plants and Magnus' retreat, Tofana realizes she'll shortly be in hand to hand combat. She takes another straight-armed shot at the mercenary, and draws her knife as she steps into the fray.
Standard action: shoot merc 1. Move action : draw knife. And if I can still 5' step, then I will into G5, providing a flank for Latheera.
Pulsecaster Pistol v merc 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 ... damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
So looking at the rules, I don't threaten with just the pulse caster, right? Even though it's a point and click weapon, it's still ranged.
And I draw an AoO for a ranged shot. So much for merrily wading into the melee fray with guns blazing.

Or do you mean T's interior dialogue?
Or do you mean that we're hidden under the trees and everyone else has fled above them?
Latheera Brightstar

I think Nevynxxx is questioning whether what a Solarian can do is general knowledge - and therefore her allies (and possibly enemies) would know to keep away from her as her glow increases.
I have been assuming the other characters either are not aware of a typical Solarian's abilities and/or they don't know exactly what she's going to do and when, so have had Latheera warning people telepathically to stay away. So far Magnus has kind of ignored or not understood, and I have probably left my warning to Tofana too late - didn't have the foresight to post before you took your turn.
Tofana
|
Well I sure don't know all the mechanics. Maybe Tofana cut that class in Pathfinder school. Maybe Latheera just likes to be super safe. In any case, I appreciate the warning.
Korskal
|
The pitch of Korskal's hum rises as he focuses on Magnus' foe. The merc shakes their head and blinks rapidly as the mental assault takes hold.
Mind Thrust, Will DC 15 half: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 Oh, wow. The only consolation is my considered plan to heal Magnus would have sucked, too. But it would not have cost me a spell slot.
Tofana
|
"This better be good." Tofana points her pistol at the oncoming mercenary to make him reconsider charging, but her real focus is on the wicked upward jab she makes with her knife at the closer enemy.
Then she steps away from what she hopes will be an entertaining explosion, or something.
Survival Knife v merc 1 : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 ... damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Then step away to E6.
Note: a few posts back Latheera had stepped to G3.
| Venture-Captain Arvin |
I'll update the mnap in a little while.
With Tof's thrust, merc one falls in a gargle of blood.
Will: 1d20 ⇒ 3 The mercenary attacking Magnus shakes his head...
Merc two again swings her large hammer at Latheera.
Attack (B): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 this time finding a hole in her defences.
Exegara takes another shot with her pistol, this time at Tofana...
Attack (F): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 DMG: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2Crit DMG: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Burn: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Latheera, then Magnus
Tofana registers the incapacitation of the first mercenary and the near miss. She swivels her head to face Exegara.
"Exegara! We only wish to talk. Cease fighting now and no one else need be harmed."

Latheera Brightstar

“Thanks,” says Latheera, nodding to the downed mercenary as she steps over him. “You’re not much of a sweet-talker though are you?”
The glow of Latheera’s solar armour has increased to an almost blinding intensity (now fully photon attuned with 3 attunement points) as she dashes around past her other attacker.
Intent is to move within 10 feet of both Merc 2 and Exegara. I think J7 is the right spot if everyone’s position is accurate on the map, though J6 could work too. I have enough speed to move around avoiding AoOs I think.
Suddenly a small star explodes, centred on Latheera’s location as a wave of superheated plasma sweeps out in a sphere around her, encompassing the mercenary and the Eoxian.
All within 10 feet of Latheera take 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 = 5 fire damage, Reflex save DC 13 for half.
When the stellar fire fades, Latheera stands unharmed, her solar armour now reduced to a dull glow.
| Magnus Norvegicus |
Magnus opens fire even as the nearest mercenary bears down on him.
Shooting Merc 3, full attack. I assume that provokes an AoO.
Attack 1 1d20 + 5 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 4 + 2 = 23 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 6 miss low 1d100 ⇒ 67 crit damage 1d6 ⇒ 6
Attack 2 1d20 + 5 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 4 + 2 = 9 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 2 miss low 1d100 ⇒ 25
"Have some, punk!"
| Venture-Captain Arvin |
Attack AoO (B): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 DMG: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The Merc sees Magnus raise his weapon, and takes the chance to thrust out his hammer, smacking Magnus right in the middle.
The Ysoki's shot though is unaffected, and a blast of energy goes right through the center of the man's head, hleaving nothing but a corpse on the floor.
Two mercs down... Korskal...
Tofana
|
Sweet! Well done Aubrey!. Korskal, then Tofana.
"Communication need only be clear. Not pleasant."
Tofana steps out of the weeds and walks up the path toward the mercenary, her arm fully extended, pointing the pulse caster at him. Just short or the sweep of his hammer, she fires at the mercenary.
Move to G3
Pulsecaster Pistol v merc 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 ... damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
If Korskal somehow takes out merc 2, then move to J6 instead, or I6 if Latheera's in J6. Ready action to shoot if Exegara attacks.
| Venture-Captain Arvin |
As Korskal takes care of Magnus, Tofana moves to shoot the remaining merc. Her shot misses, but the Merc looks around at the state of his fellow hirelings, and decides better of the fight. She ducks and runs for the South. (Double move away)
Exegara looks at the carnage, and her fleeing minion, and signs. She drops her weapon, and raises her hands.
"Ok, ok. I surrender."
| Venture-Captain Arvin |
Korskal moves to each of the mercs to determine their condition. Seeing the forehead shot, he shakes his head and closes the corpse's eyes, moving to the other. Is he still alive? If so, Korskal will attempt to stabilise him.
This is an interesting function of the SF rules vs PF. Health works differently for NPCs than it does for PCs. So while you have SP and HP and can go negative HP before you die. NPCs have just HP and die at Zero,
unless you start using non-leathal damage. For the sake of argument we can say one is dead and the other isn't. It makes litter to no difference to the scenario.
We appear to be at an impasse until someone starts talking. The Eoxian can wait rather longer than you can ;)
Tofana
|
Tofana kneels to check her kill and wipes off her knife before sheathing it. While standing and moving behind Latheera, she holsters her pistol. Then she settles into rigid stillness, arms straight down her side.
Latheera seems to be the party spokesman. I'll back her up.
Latheera Brightstar
|
Latheera wipes blood off her sword onto some nearby leaves, then rests the still naked blade on her shoulder and saunters over to stand to the left of Magnus. “I’d listen to the ysoki if I were you,” she says conversationally to the Eoxian. “He gets pretty mad when people try to kill him, and he really likes shooting fools. Now … you’re not going to be foolish are you? Come to think of it I don't much like people trying to kill me either ... Telling us where you got the insignias from seems like the real smart choice at this point.” Despite the seemingly pleasant tone there is a hard edge of threat in the solarian's voice.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
| Venture-Captain Arvin |
I think this combat is designed to get at least someone into low HP just to showcase the health system ;)
Up close it is obvious that Exegara is a ghoul. She stands impassive, her grey, semi-dead skin glistening with condensation. She is not easily intimidated. But she knows when she is beaten.
"I was aboard a ship, called the Endless Threnody. I was not on the bridge, so I do not know all of the details. But we went to salvage from a ship. The insignias were something we found on the crashed ship."
Wayf
|
Once it is clear that combat is over, Wayf will return the autopistol whereupon they very obviously drop out of combat mode.
"Wow that was scary, but you were all awesome. That was fantastic Latheera. Magnus, do you need some help?" Wayf starts to take out some medical supplies.
"So are you really undead? How did you know about the ship? Was there some sort of beacon? A desert world. Not very hospitable. I guess if you are dead then it wouldn't be too awful, would it?"
If Magnus is okay with it, Wayf will look over injuries using medical expert feat and a heal skill check Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Korskal
|
Korskal reaches out to the sharp-shooting ysocki and heals him of some of his wounds.
Spending a resolve point for 2d8 hp healing for Magnus.
Still learning the system, did this help? Does it heal HP and SP, or only one? (I'm wondering if it's like non lethal and lethal damage.)
| Magnus Norvegicus |
"So you just happened to be on a ship? You just happened to pick up some insignia? But you don't know where you were, and somehow you just didn't think to ask? You're either holding out, or too dumb to live. Neither is smart." He straightens his arm and takes careful aim at the Eoxian's head, finger tightening on the trigger.
| Venture-Captain Arvin |

Yep, helped a lot. That put him back at Max HP, but with no SP.... The SP can be recovered with a 10 minute rest.
The Ghoul looks at Wayf as they whitter on, and ignores most of the questions. It's not obvious if that is becasue there were too many for the undead to process, or if it just doesn't recognise the machine as something to respond to.
"Were there bodies to go with those isignia?"
"There may have been, I really didn't take much notice, dead flesh is useless to me."
"You do not understand military service, do you rat? I have not been with the Dread Fleet for long. I do not rank highly enough to be entrusted with information unnecessary to my mission. I was set down on a planet with a mission to recover useful objects. I know the system, my mother-ship is still there. Awaiting the parts I am retrieving to repair it."
| Magnus Norvegicus |
The insult riles Magnus. "I've been fighting all my life, you undead freak! Don't tell me about military service! Or did you fail to notice you lost this battle while you hid behind your hired muscle? So what system? And what's the name of you mother-ship, its type and the parts you're here to pick up?"
