4 ROVA
You set out as always, heading north along the riverbank. The trees here are taller and broader than they have been, their gnarled branches rising to a tangled canopy that blots out the sun. Digging into their roots, giant, parasitic corpse-flowers blossom across the jungle floor, their stench being enough to make your stomachs a little queasy.
You've been travelling for a couple of hours when you notice several humanoid corpses along the riverbank. Their armor and bodies have been ripped apart as if by large claws. Suddenly, a series of loud slams and crashing noises echo through the jungle, sending small monkeys in the treetops fleeing in all directions.
You may have one round worth of actions each. Unfortunately, the cover of the trees makes it impossible to see what has caused the crashing noises. All you can tell is that the noises are coming from the north-northwest.

Mahjik shouts: "Quick! Get ready to defend!" His call is followed by a rapid serious of hand gestures as he moves to the front to cover Shokambe. His hand movements seem silly for a moment, but then his skin begins to change, taking on a distinctly gnarly appearance.

Taking her opportunity before he rushes headlong into battle, Douena touches Pezock with shield of faith before rushing back toward Jask, drawing her starknife. "Jask, aid Sasha this time!"
Seriously, Lorenz doesn't need the hitpoints while he's standing back with a bow. Would like to end up next to Jask, depending on if he/she moves more than 30 ft. from Douena.

Shokambe, not wanting to be at the front, pulls back to Jask and Douena (J72) while Pezock moves to the front (C76).
Suddenly, three massive apes burst out of the trees to the north.

Tar'kanas's arrow flies straight at #1, but rebounds off its tough hide (i.e. a miss). Urza casts mage armour on Mahjik.
With a yell, Pezock raises his sabre and rushes forward. The bodies in the way slow him down a bit, however. Double move to -F 78. The apes have reach, but are still flat-footed, so no AoO from #1.

Ape #1 moves back a bit (5-ft step to -H/-I 77/78), then does something you wouldn't expect an ape to do. It casts a spell.

Can I get to -D 74 on a charge?
Yes, that is one of the few locations you could charge to without any obstructions.
Okay, these aren't "animals". Are they monstrous humanoids?
To all appearances, they would seem to be just really big apes.
There is also a Sense Motive spoiler above that may have been forgotten or missed. Although admittedly, the only party members capable of passing the DC are Mahjik and Jask. That said, now that Ape #1 has done this odd action, I will lower the Sense Motive DC to 15. :)

Makoa rushes forward at ape #2. As he comes in close, the ape bends down and tries to bite him, but he's moving too fast for it. He ploughs into the beast, biting into its stomach and tearing out a huge chunk of fur, skin, and guts. The ape is badly hurt by the attack.
While #2 is distracted by Makoa, Ishirou makes his way up along the jungle edge and attempt to slip around the ape (double move to -F 73).

Tar'kanas's arrow goes wide and into the water.
Urza moves forward and casts his protection from evil spell.
And in a completely uncharacteristic move for Pezock, the tengu suddenly drops his sabre and screams in utter terror. He turns and hoofs it back over the shoreline, stumbling over the bodies in his path (double move to G 77).
Note: While the description for panicked condition says a "random" path, I interpret that to mean a random safe direction. In this case, that pretty much means a southerly direction for everybody. To expedite things, I'll just move your characters south. I'm not going to roll any dice to make things any more random than that.
Lorenz moves closer (to D 77), passing the fleeing Tengu. "Pezock?" he says in confusion. "What are you doing?" Pezock just keeps on running, so Lorenz fires an arrow at #1.

The arrow slams into the middle of the ape's chest, just below its throat and practically rips right through. The ape screams in pain, terribly injured but not yet falling over.
Untari, Douena, and Mahjik follow Pezock's lead and turn tail and run. Mahjik is in reach of #2, but as #2 has already taken its AoO, he's in the clear. The bodies on the ground mean that you can't run so you all do double moves. Untari to M 76. Douena to V 75 (off the map). Mahjik to K 76.
Alton sweeps down at #2 (move to -E 73)

Alton tries to bite at the ape, but only catches a bit of hairy fur.
Seeing so many of you under the effects of the fear spell fleeing away, Shokambe sighs and moves up forward to take your place (double move to -B 75).
What started as a scream of pain from #1 suddenly changes to what seems almost like gleeful laughter. The big ape moves forward a little (to -E/-F 77/78), leans over and bites at Sasha.

Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Despite the ape's teeth digging into her arm and tearing away a chunk, Sasha comes out surprisingly unhurt, a benefit of the extra strength given her by Jask earlier.
#2 turns on Makoa in fury for his earlier attack, while #3 moves closer to bite at Ishirou (move to -H/-I 73/74)

Tar'kanas fires off another arrow that skims ape #1's fur, but doesn't penetrate. Meanwhile, a burst of flame shoots from Urza at #3, turning the ape into a giant ball of fire. With shrieks and screams the ape goes down (critical was confirmed).
Pezock continues hurrying along the shoreline (off the edge of the map; I won't bother tracking exact positions for him and the other panicked characters now).

Suddenly, a darkness engulfs #1's limp body. The darkness starts to coalesce into a shadowy grey mist that rises up into a winged humanoid shape. Two bright red dots glow where its eyes should be. The creature hisses in a whispery, yet strangely loud voice.
With a gasp, Jask hurries up to Makoa (move to -C 74) and touches his back, healing some of Makoa's wounds.
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Sasha steps up to the shadowy creature (5-ft step to -E 76) and stabs at it with both her weapons, but they just pass through the creature. She swears and calls out, "I think we've got a problem here!"

Makoa rushes at the creature and bites it, but much like Sasha's weapons, his teeth just pass straight through its shadowy shape.
Ishirou also moves up and around to the other side of it (-G 78). He swings at it, but his katana just passes through.

Urza moves up closer to the action, firing a beam of flames at the shadow-like creature. Although some of the flames pass through just like Makoa's teeth and Sasha's weapons, some of the flames actually impact the creature. Alas, they seem to have little, if any, effect. (Half damage from incorporeal and fire resistance.)
Pezock continues running.
"We have a few things that might," Lorenz replies to Tar'kanas, taking out one of his magical arrows.

He quickly fires off the arrow and then another one. Both arrows impact the incorporeal creature, causing it to squirm a little. "However," Lorenz continues, "I'm not sure if we have enough. Retreat might be a good idea."
Untari, Douena, and Mahjik continue their retreat.
Alton is about to lift from his perch again, but Sasha calls out to him to stay put. Delay.
"I have no means to affect such a creature," Shokambe says, and pulls back (double move to G 74).
The creature looks quickly around it, and smiles. Then it attacks all three people close to it.

It's claws pass through both Makoa and Sasha, sending shivers through them. Then it spins around and bites Ishirou.

The healing energies spread out and affect everyone as far as Lorenz (only not getting Shokambe and the fleeing party members). Unfortunately, they also seem heal the shadow creature a little. Jask gasps. "It's not undead!" she cries.
"Okay, I'm out of here," Sasha says and pulls away. Withdraw to G 76. Alton flies up and follows her (double move to H 71).
