Kalisuel |

Thankfully, I've been out of college since 2012, so I've had no exams ever again to look forward.
I do miss the free time though.

Jix Rissi |

@DM Default: Awesome! Can't wait xP I should be off on Friday anyways so that's perfect for me. :3
Oh also didja happen to see my question about firing from cover?
@Kali: Oh I like that idea! Otho, the bartender, Lia and Tish, the bar maids, Kali and Owl, the bouncers, and Jix, well Jix can make some alchemical contributions to the booze, like a bit of Ambrosia or such :P
Also the good thing about Lia? She can keep the beer cold :P
We don't have a cook though. . .

Jix Rissi |

@Owl: But Otho has Profession Brewer and you have mercenary >.>' We could use a cook or a performer if you don't like the idea of bouncer xP

Kalisuel |

We don't have a cook though. . .
I know what I'm investing ranks in next level then. :D
In the meantime, I can see most of us trying to figure out whether risking a deadly chef's meal or buying our meals would be less painful. :D

DM Default |

@ Jix
Tbh, I'll have to look into it more. For now though, I'll rule it as your enemy isn't using the wall that you're using for cover so it doesn't give them cover as well.

"Owl" |

Low Obstacles and Cover
A low obstacle (such as a wall no higher than half your height) provides cover, but only to creatures within 30 feet (6 squares) of it. The attacker can ignore the cover if he's closer to the obstacle than his target.
Rules from the internet.

Jix Rissi |

@Kali: Awww hells yeah :P I mean if you wanted to you could quickly switch one of your current skills to cooking before the game starts DM Default says it's okay :3
We'll need to upgrade that cart to a wagon for sure at some point ^^
@DM: thank you for the answer it is important for my build :P
@Owl: how you find dis?
EDIT: Oh mah gods I just found out I can make magic beer with alchemy

"Owl" |

@Owl: But Otho has Profession Brewer and you have mercenary >.>' We could use a cook or a performer if you don't like the idea of bouncer xP
Maybe. Still thinking about skill placement. I plan to take a lot so they are important.
@Owl: how you find dis?
Its straight from the PFSRD under the cover rules.

Kalisuel |

@Kali: Awww hells yeah :P I mean if you wanted to you could quickly switch one of your current skills to cooking before the game starts DM Default says it's okay :3

I think Owl found it in the SRD. I remember reading that on it, I was just too lazy to find it.
As far as cooking goes, I could, but I'm not sure what I would switch.
@DM Default: Would it be okay to do a minor tweak on Kali's skills?
EDIT: Ninja'd by the sneaky guy. :D

Kalisuel |

@ Kali
Sure, don't mind. Just post what your new skills are so I know.
Done, Intimidate went bye-bye, and got moved into Profession(Cook) I'll have her stats updated momentarily.

Me'mori |

In regards to Lia's attendant, I was thinking of making them an Expert, and using the Standard Array for NPCs. With the understanding that they would be accompanying her on her travels, I'm debating on how capable/knowledgeable of self-defense they would be— certainly not enough to stand on their own in a fight, but courageous enough to get in the last hit with a cast-iron pan across the back of the head if the opportunity presents itself.
I do think they would have the tolerant-but-dry humor and enough common sense to point out the flaws in Lia's plans. Their weaknesses are likely to be bards (but whose isn't?), and the little treats that are local to the places they travel. Maybe a fondness for reading, having known Lia for a while, as well as being associated with a family that supports libraries.
Thoughts?

Kalisuel |

@Me'mori: I almost went with making Lia's servant when I was working on Kalisuel.
I like the idea you've got so far. I'm not sure I could offer any changes that wouldn't wind up being over the top.
Maybe flesh them out some more. What are their virtues and flaws? Do they have something they go gaga over? What is the one thing that even the mere mention of causes a strong negative reaction? Are they shy or outgoing? Do they hover over Lia, or give her the space she needs while making sure she's taken care of?

Jix Rissi |

@Lia: X3 sounds charming. I think that adds a bit of flavor to your character. What were you thinking as far as skills for your attendant?
@Owl and Kali: I tried for like an hour to find something I swear @.@ Don't know how I couldn't find something so obvious xP
@Owl: We still need a performer *eyebrow waggles and hands Owl the pink feather fans* Knock 'em dead ;P

Kalisuel |

At some point, we need a plan that features Owl dressing as a showgirl with pink feather fans.
@Tish: Been kinda quiet. Busy? Lurking? Scared about what plans we'll have in store when the game starts? :)

Jix Rissi |

@Kali: Owl is going to be a showgirl at some point this is now cannon. :P
Tish is probably mad about the barmaid comments you made.
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

![]() |

I love professions and other things making it into a character sheet. Makes things seem much more lived in and realistic. You know, it's funny. Otho is not a worshiper of Cayden Cailean despite his tendencies and alignment. Anyway. I do approve of the wandering bar idea, assuming we can all get along. ;)
@Kali: I do feel the skill change fits her better. Intimidate seemed somehow wrong for Kali with her background of grudgingly accepting the hard things life has doled out.

Jix Rissi |

Just bought the Alchemy Manual for some more ideas XD there are a lot of brews I can make alchemically to help with the bar tending. Also some other *cough* recreationals *cough* >.>' and discovered a new badass poison I could make, some awesome bolts, item to make stealthy holes in walls, annnnd a nice little pill to help with initiative checks =P

Laetitia Corvus |

@Tish: Been kinda quiet. Busy? Lurking? Scared about what plans we'll have in store when the game starts? :)
Sorry, still here. Just making sure everything's in order before we start. I was trying to see if there were any gaps Tish could fill (besides barmaid; good luck talking her into that =P), but I guess it would be better to ask what you guys think. It's a collaborative effort after all, right?
So with DM Default's permission, I dropped the Umbral Mesmerist archetype. Figured we were probably good on offense as is, and this would allow me to pick up more tricks sooner. I had psychosomatic surge picked out as the first, but if anyone has alternate suggestions, I'm more than happy to consider them. Plan so far is:
1st- psychosomatic surge
2nd- mask misery
4th- mesmeric mirror

DM Default |

Lia, could you clarify here and on your character sheet if your a linnorm sorceror or a dragon one? There's a class of info on your sheet.

Jix Rissi |

@Tish: XP Well we could use a magic show if you're up for gaining some ranks in Perform ^^ Thought you might not like the idea of being a barmaid but I thought the contrasting personalities of Lia and Tish as barmaids would be entertaining. Psychosomatic surge seems very useful to me. =3 Should keep us alive a bit longer. ^^

DM Default |

Also, please refrain from reading each other's spoilers. I promise you can go back and read them later but for now not knowing is half the fun.

Me'mori |

@Lia: X3 sounds charming. I think that adds a bit of flavor to your character. What were you thinking as far as skills for your attendant?
All-around. With points in Profession(Attendant), Bluff, Craft(Calligraphy), Diplomacy, Heal, Intimidate, K.(Nobility), K.(Geography), Sense Motive, and Survival, I'm thinking they've been intentionally guided, perhaps by her parents, perhaps by a knowing instructor, perhaps by herself— that saw that she was likely to travel and having an assistant that was prepared would be beneficial. She would have all the skills necessary to be social in unfamiliar places, for all that she— or Lia— will likely stand out.
Hmmm... Human. Ulfen. Female.
DM, Lia will start the game with her services paid for a month. While she has cultivated patience, she is likely to be hasty when it comes to Lia, having spent enough time around her to generally know which way she is inclined to react, and found that cutting her off before she can get a full head of steam going yields the best results. She is vicariously living through Lia a bit, since she hears her gripes and gushes, maybe one of those types that is envious of nobility, but definitely too practical to deal with the amount of "Diplomacy" (re: petty scheming) that occurs on a day-to-day basis, so she is quietly amused. Whenever she can get another skill point, It is going into Linguistics, since she has— by virtue of association— picked up a fondness for books, and is quietly frustrated by these different tongues that hold stories that she cannot know. That strong negative reaction is likely to be provoked by seafaring. Whether to a bad event, or a general dislike of the cramped quarters of seafaring ships (perhaps spoiled by being Lia's attendant), and the constant motion (carriages and balls and duties, blech) she will voice her dissent and employ what knowledge she can to find another route.
I do think they would have the tolerant-but-dry humor and enough common sense to point out the flaws in Lia's plans. Their weaknesses are likely to be bards for the stories they tell, and the words they employ so skillfully (but whose isn't?), and the little treats that are local to the places they travel.
She is more outgoing than shy, perhaps 70/30, since Lia has never seen fit to tell her to "behave like a servant", and enjoys the freedom compared to the other servants that say nothing back to their charges. She would be aware of how she's supposed to act and can do so when circumstances demand it, but thanks to Lia's disinterest in courtly functions, she has not had to do that much, and she is appreciative. Dressing up in the finery is nice, though. She does give Lia space— the better to hear some stories that she would have not gotten otherwise were she being strict about her duties— but not so much that she cannot perform her duties when needed to. They likely have not been far from the other for too long, since she would be Lia's personal attendant that her initial brattiness (that she has ruthlessly managed to stamp out— mostly) demanded she be with her at all times.
Name? Let's go with Kari... Kari Val'Demar. ;)
Thank you Kali, those questions helped immensely.

DM Default |

@ Me'mori
Why does Kari get paid pre-game? did you deduct that from your purse or is there an actual reason to wave those fees? Having a helper around is pretty useful, need to pay 'em for a reason.

Me'mori |

The pay will come out of Lia's starting gold, and has been added to Lia's sheet.
I figured it would be all well and good to have a servant, but (to Lia's eyes) unpaid help is poor help, wordplay aside. It also gives her a bit of status and having a living servant is better than the magics that she can manage with Unseen Servant.
Additionally, there is an additional bit in there that may help for her characterization/motivation.

Kalisuel |

@Me'mori: Glad to be of help. :)

Jix Rissi |

@Me'mori: Not quite what I was expecting but perhaps better as it feels more like a friendship than an employer/employee relationship. But perhaps that will be tested :P
@DM Default: Oh that's a rude thing to do to a rogue and you know. The insult! The very idea!
.
.
.
Well go on. >.>'

"Owl" |

Stop adding more temptation. I am being good over here and not reading things.

Jix Rissi |

@Owl: Oh but it is very, veeeeerrrrryyyy good~
*dangles post just out of Owl's reach* :P
@Default: I'm liking the way this is starting out, all the mystery posts, it's all very intriguing~
I'm being good and not reading btw but the temptation is, indeed, great.

"Owl" |

I am a good noodle. I am a good noodle. I am a good noodle.

Jix Rissi |

>.>' Guys, I think I broke Owl. . . He seems to believe that he is a noodle now. . . I dunno >.>'
*pokes*

Kalisuel |

Well, I guess I should admit that I read all of Default's first post, but I've been good since.
That said, I have to agree with Owl, he's a noodle. :P

Laetitia Corvus |

It most certainly is tempting, but my prompt gave me more than enough to think about without troubling myself with everyone else's just yet. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say the surprise was well worth the wait, Default.

DM Default |

I try :P
Got the idea from a GM of another game I played in. Personalized beginnings just feel nice.

DM Default |

You can also leave rolls inside spoilers and just change text using the [ooc] tags

Jix Rissi |

@Default: Well I, for one, definitly appreciate the effort that goes into making the personalized beginnings. So thank you x3
@Kali: Bad Kali don't you go reading eveyone's post and gat her in forbidden knowledge :P
*adds Owl to bowl of ramen*

Kalisuel |

I tend to be pretty good about separating character and player knowledge. If I'm not sure if my character would know something, I ask. It's just one of those vices I have because I like being able to read all of your stories, and not just my own.
@Otho: You won't lose the roll unless you delete or roll a different set of dice above the one you rolled, so just fixing the spoilers isn't going to make you lose it. Now, the Post Monster might, but that's a different thing altogether. It's a pretty neat system since it allows you to see what it's going to be and edit accordingly. So if you crit, you can roll for the confirmation and then roll for damage.
@Jix: I dunno, Owl seems more like a linguini than a ramen noodle.

DM Default |

Just to let you all know, I usually update at least every weekday at night (Central time). I usually take one or both weekend days off.

Jix Rissi |

@Kali: Fair enough I just always worry that I may learn some helpful knowledge and be tempted to act on it. Like knowing someone is actually a bad guy so you don't go to his mid-day tea invitation without a weapon. Just too much temptation to act there.
And I think we can all agree he's not a spaghetti at the very least.

"Owl" |

This sucks. Even with a masterwork backpack and a bare minimum of items I couldn't get below light load limit. So I am resigned to medium and dropping all but the essentials in combat.

DM Default |

Everyone having fun so far? ( I realize we're only 2 updates in)
Just a quick reminder, I'm all for character choice and style but chaotic neutral characters don't be random a*$!@@#s and Jix, no stealing from others when you actually get in groups.

"Owl" |

Oh. It won't be random.
Also wow, 3 chaotic neutrals. All with heavy personalities. Good luck Otho, Kali and Nia. 5 to 1 chaos but balanced between good and neutral. We'll do the right thing but you better pay us.

Kalisuel |

And Kali probably isn't going to be lawful long. I need to PM Default about a couple of things though

Jix Rissi |

@DM Default: But-but Jix isn't being random D= that wasn't my intention at least she's just trying to fool those people so they'll help her. . . sorry if it came across that way. And I never steal from party members, all that does is cause trouble.
